Super Safi’s Monday Morning Musings 89 – Springfield, Springfield

Morning Musically-Minded, Medically-Minded, Masticators!

(Today’s post is sponsored by the letter “M”)

Over the past 600+ episodes, The Simpsons has taken us on an amazing journey involving music, science, and food to name a few concepts.

And what better way to start your week, than by discussing some of these concepts Monday morning?

So let’s get started this week by talking about another Simpsons original song.

In the eighty ninth episode of The Simpsons, Boy-Scoutz ‘n the Hood (Season 05, Episode 08), Bart and Milhouse come across a $20 bill. They decide to order a Squishee – one made entirely out of syrup. This shocks everyone in the Kwik-e-Mart. Apu is scared as he pours the ultra-sugary drink, as the squishee machine shakes

Apu: “All done! If you survive, please come again.

Bart and Milhouse go on a crazy sugar rush, losing their senses. They start singing a song as they explore Springfield with their new found money.

Bart: “Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh… my head…
Lisa: “Tsk tsk tsk… the remorse of the sugar junkie.
Bart: “Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh… I don’t remember anything.
Lisa, as she pulls the sheets off Bart: “Really? Not even… this?
Bart: “Wah! Oh, no! I must’ve joined the Junior Campers! Ah!
Lisa: “The few, the proud, the geeky.
Bart: “Boy, a man on a Squishee bender can sure do some crazy things.

While initially not looking forward to joining the Junior Campers, Bart sings a different tune when it gets him out of a surprise test. He decides to stick with it when he gets to use a knife. Bart starts enjoying Junior Campers and collects quite a few badges.

Things are going well until it’s time for the father-son rafting trip, and Homer, Bart, Ned, and Rod get lost at sea. But fortunately Homer smells their way to a Krusty Burger located on an oil rig.

But have you ever wondered what song the boys were singing on their Squishee bender?

Springfield, Springfield

The lyrics were written by Dan McGrath and the music composed by Alf Clausen. The song is a parody of “New York, New York” from the 1944 Broadway musical “On the Town“.

Here are the lyrics:

Bart & Milhouse:
Springfield, Springfield,
It’s a helluva town!
The schoolyard’s up
And the shopping mall’s down
The stray dogs go
To the animal pound!
Bart:
Springfield, Springfield…
Milhouse:
Springfield, Springfield…
Sailor:
New York, New York…
Bart:
New York is that away, man!
Sailor:
Thanks, kid!
Bart & Milhouse:
It’s a hell of a town!

  1. Who robs cavefish of their sight, who rigs every Oscar night, we do, WE DO!

  2. The group is traversing down rapids….

Flanders: I guess this is why they don’t call them slowpids.
    Bart: *laughs*
Homer: You are not my son!

  3. Good Morning

“Boy-Scoutz ‘n the Hood” (Season 05, Episode 08) – and this Episode is where the ‘Krusty Burger Oil Rig’ comes from …. it doesn’t do much as Decor, just one of those silly Prizes that gets placed in the Ocean 🌊 (I wouldn’t mind a ‘Homer Simpson orders 700 Krusty Burgers’ Character Task – lol!)

Bart and Milhouse on a crazy Squishy sugar rush (lol – it’s a classic Simpsons moment!) 😂

We don’t have Jr Campers in the Game App (maybe it’s too much of a B Plot to ask for?) 🤔

Thanks to the Internet / Disney + you can rewatch this Classic Episode

    Bart-centric Episode:

“Bart Gets Famous” (Season 5, Episode 12) – comes with a Conan O’Brien cameo!

Original Song Episode / Original Song

“Homer’s Barbershop Quartet” (Season 5, Episode 1) – the Be Sharps (barbershop quartet with Homer Simpson, Principal Skinner, Barney Gumble, and Apu) sing “Baby on Board”

    Sugary Drink / Food

    Those (original) Shamrock ☘️ Shakes

Knott’s Berry Farm Funnel Cake with Boysenberries (and lots of powdered sugar!)

My Side Effects From Too Much Sugar

Don’t indulge ’til after you go on all of the ‘Thrill Rides’ (or your tummy will hurt!)

    Thank you Safi 👍🏻

  4. My favourite song is probably ” we do ” from the stonecutters episode. I can’t remember what it was called but I once had a can of hawaiian punch flavour drink that contained 110% of your daily reccomend sugar intake I felt like apu running round the store as a humming bird from lack of sleep after drinking.
