Super Safi’s Monday Morning Musings 107 – Bort

Morning Musically-Minded, Medically-Minded, Masticators!

(Today’s post is sponsored by the letter “M”)

Over the past 600+ episodes, The Simpsons has taken us on an amazing journey involving music, science, and food to name a few concepts.

And what better way to start your week, than by discussing some of these concepts Monday morning?

So let’s get started this week by talking about a name made even more famous by The Simpsons.

In the one hundredth and seventh episode of The Simpsons, Itchy & Scratchy Land (Season 06, Episode 04), Bart and Lisa try to convince Homer and Marge to take a family trip to Itchy & Scratchy Land.

After much discussion and persuasion, Homer and Marge give in and the family is off on a long road trip to Itchy & Scratchy Land.

After parking their car, they are air lifted to an island housing Itchy & Scratchy Land.

At Itchy & Scratchy Land, they have a blast on all the rides. But Bart is disappointed when he can’t find his name on a custom license plate at the gift shop.

Bart: “Cool…personalized plates! “Barclay”…”Barry”…”Bert”… “Bort”? Aw, come on. “Bort”?
Child: “Mommy, mommy! Buy me a license plate.
Mother: “No. Come along, Bort.
Man: “Are you talking to me?
Mother: “No, my son is also named Bort.

The Bort license plates are actually quite popular.

PA Announcer #1: “Mop and bucket man to the exit of the Nauseator. Mop and bucket man to the exit of the Nauseator.
PA Announcer #2: “We have another jumper on the roof of TGI McScratchy’s.
PA Announcer #3: “We need more Bort license plates in the Gift Shop. Repeat, we are sold out of Bort license plates.

But the Bort license plates running out aren’t the only problem at the threme park. The trip takes a turn for even worse when the animatronic robots decide to harm all the park visitors.

But have you ever wondered if Bort is a real name?

  1. Safi, thanks for this post. I don’t know anyone by that name. But I was guessing 🤔 it was either Norwegian or Swedish.

    …..😎

  2. There was the joy of obtaining the Character Bort in TSTO …. and he’s great, but I can’t say the same for the Itchy and Scratchy Land update (some nice Content, but overall that was a hot mess – and you remember why if you were a Tapper back then!) 🤔

This Episode still makes me 😂 (it’s classic Simpsons Era!) 😉👍🏻

  3. As elcaminobilly already already mentioned there is an NHL named Forbort & when my Calgary Flames traded him in 2020 they posted this pic on Twitter

  4. Announcer: Attention, Marge Simpson, your son has been arrested.
Woman: I’d be terribly embarrassed if I were that boy’s mother. (Marge hears from this and feels embarrassed)
Announcer: Attention, Marge Simpson, we have also arrested your older, balder, fatter son. (Marge groans)

  5. I’ve never encountered anyone named Bort, but there is an NHL hockey player named Derek Forbort that makes me think of this episode every time I see him play.

My favorite travel episode is their first visit to Brazil, Blame it on Lusa, which is actually my favorite episode ever.
