Today is a very special day here at Addicts HQ!  Today’s the birthday of our resident Cranky Old Guy….the one, the only Patric! Another year older, another year wiser & finally old enough to collect Social Security!

Friday Filler – When Dam Envy Turns to Grinding…

Thank Grog It’s Firday!! 

So…I checked my “Righteousness” rating, and I was down a couple of stars, which seems about right for me.  If you are living too righteous a life, you are likely not living ENOUGH life, and are too self-righteous to know it!

I know why I’m not righteous. It has to do with actually enjoying a “tag war” with a couple of my favorite neighbors.  We love tagging one another, as it is a little more personal than just dropping by for a handshake.  And, as I have written about before, one of those neighbors is someone with whom I don’t really have any other relationship, except the graffiti…for years, and years, and years.

Tjbmurph and  I have been neighbors almost as long as I have been blogging.  She has been a tagger that makes me smile with her persistence, since 2013. It’s nuts when you think about it…but, we LOVE tagging!  As soon as a major update is over, I can be assured that she will tag me almost the instant she is able. I laugh every time...and tag her back.

But, the real issue of the day, is her unknowing coercion to turn me into a “grinder” again.  I am not a grinder. Much.

But, a bit of “neighbor envy” has made me so once again.

Thank Grog It’s Firday!!

I am amazed. Really, really, really amazed (sorry…with this administration, it is hard not to use the word “really” a whole lot of times in a row…like a really, really, really, lot of times in a row).  Where was I? Oh. Right…

I am amazed that EA actually didn’t mess up one of the biggest weeks of my recent history, by forcing me to tap wildly throughout what should have been (and was) a tap-free weekend. It’s very, very, very rare. Really.

What did I do?  What did I think of the update (that I mostly skipped)?? What could possibly have taken me away from donuts and ding-dongs? Read on…

Friday Filler – Tapping Less and Enjoying It More

Ah...Thank Grog It’s Firday!

This was a running joke that my kids and I had when they were all in college, and admitted that around campus, “the weekend” actually started on Thursdays…or to be specific, Wednesday nights, when a famous U of O bar ( Taylor’s Tavern literally 22 feet off of campus)  had “Dollar Beer Night.”  Don’t get me wrong…my kids were all great students, who all graduated with honors, but they also knew how to pace their work, and get the most out of their play.

And who was I to argue?  They all graduated Summa, or Magna Cum Laude, while I joke that I was ” In Cum Plete” as I never finished my degree after my football, musical career, and partying got in the way.  My kids are WAY better at balancing work and fun than I was.  I was “All In” or “All Out.” And was usually too “Grogged” to know it was Friday…(hence the  Firday joke).

But, I have improved in my old age.  I have learned that doing LOTS of things well, requires balance. And if something becomes obsessive after the “learning curve,” you need to adjust. Rather than do one thing obsessively, which tends to narrow one’s life, I now choose to “Live Wide.”

That has now become the standard for how I Tap. It’s the reverse of what happens when you are truly addicted and obsessed. Remember the old joke, “I”m smoking more, but enjoying it less?”  If you don’t, it’s because the guy who coined that phrase croaked, due to lung cancer. But, for me, living wide requires me to, TAP LESS, to Enjoy it More….

Ergh…It Must Be MONDAY…

I hate to admit that I am one of those people who dreads Mondays. It isn’t just because I love weekends so much (as I often work through most of a weekend).  It is that so much seems to happen over the weekend, that I can barely keep up.  It is then complicated by the fact that most of my broadcast clients are HORRIBLE procrastinators, and load me up with stuff they need “ASAP!!!!!” that they “forgot to do last week.”

I have a sign on my door that says, “Your Procrastination Is Not My Emergency.”  But, of course, radio people can’t see my sign…because they are mostly NOT huge on “Social Media,” “the Inter-webs” or “the Google.”  But I digress…

The fact is, this weekend was jammed with seemingly unrelated events that all conspired to almost make sense as a single topic.

Almost.

Let’s see how this thread pulls itself together.

Conformists, Non-Conformists, Tagging, Digital Hugging…and Other Points of View

I am going to start with making a disclaimer…undoubtedly one of many in this post…which should alert some of the more “literal” in our readership that they may not agree with everything I am about to write. That’s OK. I am simply letting you know , before I make you upset (which is what most disclaimers are really all about. Right?)

And to that point, I am of the age when most of the commercials on the evening news (remember the evening news?) are for pharmaceutical wonder-drugs that will cure what ails me…but whose disclaimers are actually several times longer than the actual “meat” of the commercial copy.  You know the ones. “Two pills daily may help your painful hammertoes!” followed by, “not guaranteed to fix hammertoes, may cause swelling of the joints, redness of eyes, painful ear growths, loss of hair, projectile vomiting, leaking orifice condition, and possible death in some cases.”

This post will not cause any of the above…but COULD cause rising blood pressure in a large number of “Star Sensitive” players.

Forgiveness and Rekindled Friendships

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Since we’re waiting for the Superheroes removal update, I’m going to deviate, briefly, from TSTO coverage to bring you an update on something else…..

For those of you that have been around this site since it launched, or at least within the first couple of months of launch, this story doesn’t need an explanation….but bear with me as I fill our newer readers (of the last 2 years) in on some of the backstory…

This blog was started nearly 3 years ago, and it was started on the philosophy that TSTO is a game.  And games should be fun.  It was also started by two old friends, myself and Mark.  In the weeks that followed the blog launch we added smart, wonderful people to the mix Wookiee and Bunny.  Who would soon become not just my friends…but my family.

It wasn’t long after the blog started, and Bunny & Wookiee joined the mix, that Mark would get pulled away for work.  His schedule just got so busy he couldn’t make the time commitment to blog full time.  We all understood.

And no, this isn’t a story about Mark.  No, this is a story about someone who came along after Mark left us.  You see, shortly after Mark left we added another voice to the mix….Pat, aka Cranky Old Guy.
