DID- We Got “The Stuff”…Now What Do We Do?

In this installment of “Designing in Downtime” (DID), I want to go over some of the “stuff” we won during the recent Flanders Family Reunion update.  Not so much the “stuff,” but where you put it.

I know…if any of you are older than 50, “where should I stash my stuff” takes on a whole other meaning.  And of course, ironically, some of the “stuff” from this update was actually related to “stuff” that used to be, or perhaps still is (depending on how you look at it) illegal.

But, that hasn’t stopped EA and the writers from offering it up…most of it almost free (gotta get ’em hooked with a freebie…then they’ll pay).

Let’s take a look on some design ideas that utilize some of the best stuff, as well as some stuff that has been in my game in Cletus’s domain for years and years.

Where did I put my stuff?

Addicts Bracket Challenge: Most Desired Episode Content, Week 12

It was five years ago, just after the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs bracket was complete that I thought it might be cool to do a The Simpsons Tapped Out bracket. Here we are in the thick of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs again, and it’s time for our fifth TSTO Addicts Bracket Battle!

How much longer EA can keep Tapped Out going is up for debate. But what isn’t debatable is that there is A LOT of content in the rich history of The Simpsons universe still not in our little game. There is so much in fact, that it was hard just to narrow it down to 64 entries to start with. With that in mind, we present to you TSTO Addicts’ Most Desired Episode Content Bracket Battle.

Friday Filler – TSTO Is Going to Pot!

Thank Grog It’s Firday!!!

Wow…so we actually got kind of a “normal” update after the larger event…and didn’t have to wait 6 weeks!  Cool! Great! Wonderful! Will wonders never cease?

And the content, but even more important, the dialogue is hilarious.

And yes…like it or not (for all of the other Springfields of the world) once again, the writers are giving a tip of the hat to the REAL Springfield, Springfield, Oregon!

How do I know? Because the game has turned to pot for it’s humor, and no town in America has gone to pot more, than Springfield, Oregon!

DID – Designing Within the Limits of The New Normal

In this installment of DID (Designing In Downtime), we are going to address the options you have for designing with the “New Normal.”

What is the New Normal?
Many of you are facing the growing number of restrictions that have become “normal.” And as we have mentioned before, these are the hurdles you may need to jump if you are going to keep playing a game that seems to be sputtering to meet the demands of long-time users.

I’ll deal with a couple…
Lack of Land, and Item Limits That Seem Stuck

Friday Filler – Entitlement in a Freemium World

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

At the lofty old age of 65.5 years old (that .5 is important as you get older), I have come to realize that in my quest to remain young and vibrant, I have actually become weirdly entitled. I could give all sorts of instances, but as this is a blog about a mobile game, I will keep most of my comments to this topic.

More and more, I am beginning to feel like Grandpa Simpson, as almost all of the stories I tell my grandkids (the ones old enough to sit and listen without being bribed by an ice cream cone), are met with a look of incredulous wonder, as if I just told them that “cell phones are sucking your brain pan dry if you use them after 10pm.”  Of course, most of those statements could be true…there just hasn’t been some Swedish study on the topic yet.  But then again, they were wrong about bacon being bad for you, and eggs, and peanut butter… or was it nut butters with sugar added…I can’t remember…but, they were wrong.

However, what I know to be true, is that as more and more amazing technical advances are made every year, and we just grow to accept their existence and our habitual reliance on them, we forget the fact that most of the stuff that gives us real joy is actually FREE. Like TSTO. And updates in TSTO. And…well…you get the picture.

Are we too entitled?  Have we become whiny brats who expect sprinkles (never call them Jimmies around Alissa) on EVERY meal?

Let’s look a the evidence…(before some Swedish think tank does).

Friday Filler – Alternate Event Math in the Donut Farming Era

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

If we are to be pragmatic about the current state of affairs in TSTO, you have to be a true “Purist” to choose not to donut farm.  In almost every instance, concentrating on farming, so you can concentrate on rushing, so you can actually have more “Life Currency,” is simply the most prudent use of your time (which is of course, Life Currency defined).

Case in point, the choice whether to grind every 4 hours to complete the tasks involved with the event, or whether to simply make donut farming your substitute grind…even during downtime and during events. This is a decision that requires a bit of “New TSTO Math.

I have played this event both ways…mostly due to the need to actually “live more life” while still “getting everything.”

Let me explain…then you can decide.
