Morning Musically-Minded, Medically-Minded, Masticators!

(Today’s post is sponsored by the letter “M”)

Over the past 600+ episodes, The Simpsons has taken us on an amazing journey involving music, science, and food to name a few concepts.

And what better way to start your week, then by discussing some of these concepts Monday morning?

So let’s get started this week by recapping some lyrics from the sixth episode of The Simpsons, featuring jazz by Lisa Simpson and winner of the first ever Bracket Battle Bleeding Gums Murphy.

In the sixth episode of The Simpsons, Moaning Lisa (Season 01, Episode 06), Lisa develops the blues, which is noticeable to the people around her. She has a note sent home from Springfield Elementary, but Marge and Homer are unable to cheer her up. That night, she hears jazz music in the distance, and sneaks out to follow it, to discover that it is being played by Bleeding Gums Murphy. He teaches her how to express her sadness on the saxophone, and she is happy again.

During their first encounter, we get to hear an awesome blues song in which Lisa expresses her feelings:

Lisa’s Blues

I got this bratty brother.

He bugs me everyday.

And this morning, my own mother.

Gave my last cupcake away.

My dad acts like he belongs,

he belongs in a zoo.

I’m the saddest kid in grade number two.”

Now that we’ve strolled down memory lane to review Lisa’s blues, be sure to come back next week when we continue our Monday morning musings with the next episode of The Simpsons.
