In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?
This post I will be going over the Origin of the Slaughter House. Introduced into our games with Level 52, this building brought us Lunchlady Dora into our games. First thing I thought when I saw this building was, “Uh oh… there’s gonna be some ticked off vegetarians and animal lovers in TSTO-land.” This post isn’t a commentary on whether the eating of meat is ok or not but I hope by seeing the origin, it might lessen the sting for anyone less than enthused about this new building. Let’s take a look at the show to see what this has to do with our lunchlady.
So other than think about my veggie-loving friends (including my own kiddo and sister), the second thing I thought of when I saw this was the funny Troy McClure educational video from “Lisa the Vegetarian” (S7:E5). You know, the one they show to prove meat is good while simultaneously pointing out the horror of the killing floor?
Of course, that’s not our new building but any chance to mention Troy McClure is a good thing. Little Jimmy’s face after visiting Bovine University is priceless. There’s also a slaughterhouse in “How I Spent My Strummer Vacation” (S14:E2). Homer feared his family was taking him there.
Well, he also feared the mental institution and Santa’s Village but oh well. I could mention the Slaughterhouse Express car in the Lady Gaga episode or the slaughterhouse floor seen by Homer and Lisa in “O Brother, Where Bart Though?” (S21:E8), but that’d just be me waxing nerdtastic on the Best. Show. Ever. Let’s head off to the episode that features our new building.
In “Apocalypse Cow” (S19:E17), Bart joins the 4H Club after seeing Martin driving a combine driver. Bart surprisingly is really good at all the farm tasks. His summer project is to raise a cow big and strong and he gets stuck with the runt aka the scrappy little misfit just like him. Bart meets Mary Spuckler and raises his calf named Lou. Lou ends up the winner of the competition but to Bart’s horror, he finds out Lou is destined for the slaughter house. Bart doesn’t want Lou to be made into food and fringe vests for gay cowboys so he rescues him from the feed lot of Abattoir & Costello LLC.
Lisa and Bart realize the safest place for a cow is a farm so they head to the Spucklers. Unfortunately, giving a cow is a wedding engagement in hillfolk tradition and Bart almost gets married to Mary Spuckler just to save his cow. Marge stops the wedding and manages to get Lou to safety in India. Of course, Homer had to dress up as a cow to aid the supterfuge, but what could go wrong at the Laughter House?
Oh… slaughterhouse… easy mistake with limited binoculars. Homer is almost turned into a steak but we all know he’s saved at the last moment… literally.
There’s also a slaughterhouse restaurant in “Maximum Homerdrive” (S10:E17) but that’s a post for later if EA ever picks it for the game. What are your thoughts on the new building? Like it, hate it, at least glad it brought Lunchlady Dora-is into the game? I know this may not be everyone’s favorite but I’d just point out that this is a game and there’s lots of stuff The Simpsons poke fun at. I think of this as a symbol of Bart saving a creature he loved. He had a cow man. Sound off below and no matter what, keep the laughter in your life.
TTFN… Wookiee out!
