Where Did That Come From? – Duff Float, Bathtub Brewery, Howard K Duff and More…

Let’s just start off with the reality that St. Patrick’s Day is pretty much a huge drunk-fest.  The real origins have long been forgotten, and in the hotbed of  American Irish Catholic cities (NYC, Boston, Pittsburgh etc.), it is a weirdly non-Christian/Christian celebration with a history of exclusion that makes one scratch his head…but, mostly because his head is numb from drinking too much green beer. It gets even more convoluted on Columbus Day…but, that is an entirely different kind of alcohol, without the food coloring. But, I digress…

The episode on which most of the St. Patrick’s Day/Homer -vs-The 18th Amendment Green/Beer/Shamrock stuff, is from an episode of the same name. No. Not Shamrock Stuff…but, Homer vs the 18th Amendment (S8E18).

You wanna have a full-blown…real-deal booze fest?  Then buckle in kids…because this episode is loaded…as in smashedtrashed…and besotted.

Where Did That Come From? – Meathook, Poppa Wheelie, Hooch City and More…

As with most TSTO events these days, this event is kind of an amalgam of several different Simpsons Episodes, pulled together with a loose storyline, to make the TSTO make sense…mostly.

In this case, there are two primary episodes from which most of the content is being pulled, one obvious…and one not so obvious. But both, with the same over-arching theme…boozing and running wild.

Now, I’ve certainly had more than my share of carousing in my life…mostly revolving around Rugby, being in a band, and just being a kid who liked to party.  But, I admit, I was never one to fall prey to the ritualistic partying that goes with St. Patrick’s Day, or the general mayhem that seems to be part of being in a gang. Although it could be argued that Rugby teams have a sort of “gang mentality” to them from an onlooker’s point of view. But, I assure you…rugby teams are nothing like Motorcycle gangs. To begin with, we don’t have motorcycles. But, the rest…well…there are some similarities in our group think-group drink mentality.

And, in this particular episode of the Simpsons…Drinking, Carousing, Rough-Housing, and absconding another man’s woman, are all points that could certainly draw similarities.

Let’s take a look at where HALF of the TSTO stuff comes from in this update!

Where Did THAT Come From – Erik and the Dodgeball Court

Safi here, giving Wookiee a hand with these WDTCF. With WDTCF being a staple of TSTO Addicts, I’ll try to keep as true to the format as possible (by which I mean I’ll copy and paste one of Wookiee’s posts and just change the necessary info). Hope I make the Wookster proud. Enjoy:

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

It’s Bart Royale time here in all of our tiny tappable towns and this dodgeball fanatic Super Safi could not be more thrilled to dodge, duck, dip, dive, or dodge.

It’s time for one of my favorite parts of being a reader here at this amazing site. That’s right… new stuff for us to talk about just WHERE it all comes from in the Best. Show. Ever. I’m always a fan of new things even though a lot of the coolest things cost precious sprinklies. The 2018 Bart Royale Event started with a battle between the kids and adults of Springfield. And when you think of battling, you have to think of dodgeball. And when you think of dodgeball in Springfield, you think of Erik. It’s always a pleasure to re-watch episodes of the Best. Show. Ever. For this round of origins, we’ll be taking a look at Erik and the dodgeball court:

Where Did That Come From? – Prepper Lindsey Naegle and Ruffians

When I saw this in Alissa’s “Assignment List,” I thought to myself…”Wait…didn’t I already do a post on this?”  The answer is… sorta.

In my January 5th, Friday Filler, I got deep into why I bought the Premium Character Lloyd (yes…we have been “prepping” that long), and his relationship to one of my favorite singer/writer/actors, Tom Waits.

You can find it here…
https://tstoaddicts.com/2018/01/05/friday-filler-when-anarchy-meets-cool/

However…to put a finer point on things (and who doesn’t want to put a finer point when one can?), the assignment wasn’t about Lloyd…but about Prepper Lindsay, and the Ruffians. So, even though they are all from the aforementioned episode (love a word, like aforementioned…it’s so long, and legal/important sounding…even though it just means, “I already said it”), I will dive a tad deeper into the episode, and offer up a couple of hilarious screen shots, that actually have appeared in our ‘lil game. (I Hate the phrase, “‘lil game” but…sometimes I use it just to annoy myself, ironically).

So…when we first met Prepper Lindsey…

The 2017 Homerpalooza Event started with a bang (literally with a free cannon) and then went full Rock, Pop, and Hip Hop. But when you think of music and the Simpsons, most people don’t go to Rock, Pop or Hip Hop first, but as the original Bracket Battle showed, we tend to go to Jazz. And when you think of Jazz, you have to think of the Jazzman, none other than the late great Bleeding Gums Murphy. It’s my privilege to get to writing about the origins for The Simpsons version of BGM on behalf of Wookiee. It’s always a pleasure to re-watch episodes of the Best. Show. Ever. Where Did That Come From? – Springfield Opry House

I’m going to start by making it clear, that while this episode is almost entirely about a love relationship between Bart and Mary Spuckler, I actually saved this last WDTCF post from this Mini-Event, because I love the building that the Springfield Opry House is based upon.

I think it is interesting the way we toss around the word, “Love.” We love our significant others, we love our kids, we love our country, we love our sports teams, and we love the concept of being in love. But we also love a whole bunch of inanimate objects that don’t really return our love, as much as we shower them with affection and obsession…to the point where the kind of deep, passionate, romantic love that is actually important (along with unconditional love for one another), is watered down, by our love for stuff. But, I digress…

Where Did That Come From? County Fair – Part III – Country Fair Sign, Pavillion, and Largest Ribbon

OK.
I feel like I am getting the hang of these WDTCF posts…but readily admit that Wookie does a WAY better job, because he is clearly a WAY bigger Simpsons fan (the guy is like 6’10” or something).  Don’t get me wrong…I love the show, and love the game, and actually kind of enjoy reminding myself (and you guys) where stuff from our game comes from.

But, sometimes, like this episode, and these TSTO items, they really don’t play much of a part in the original story. Like…well…almost not at all after the first 2 minutes of the episode.

But…this episode is SUPER important, for a variety of SUPER reasons…

Where Did That Come From- County Fair Edition – Apocalypse Cow with Mary Spuckler

OK… so after talking with Alissa, it seems my first attempt at the WDTCF for this mini-event fell short.  Her words were, to this effect…”we need to show more pics from the actual episode…people like that…and if you don’t, they will scream.”

I’m not sure how many of you will actually scream…but, I’m not willing to take the chance.  Besides…I LOVE this episode (S19, E17 ).  It is absolutely loaded with great gags, and is the first time Bart meets Mary Wrestlemania Spuckler, who continues to be in his life for several more episodes.  Voiced by Zoey Deschanel, who is just cute beyond words in real life, Mary is the only really smart Spuckler (as we’ll see), and has a huge part in saving Bart’s cow (that’s right…Bart actually “has a cow”) in this episode.

Let’s take a look at the details…and figure out WHERE Mary Spuckler, The Chedderbarrel Farm and Chedderbarrel Combine (and maybe the County Fair sign) come from…

It’s “Insane in the membrane, Insane in the brain!” time here in all of our tiny tappable towns and this sane (my mother had me tested) Super Safi could not be more thrilled.
