Moe’s Ark – WDTCF – The Character Gumbo Addition

I give up.  When I started to do a Where Did That Come From post for some of the main characters we win or can buy in this event, I realized quickly that EA and the Writers are REALLY reaching into their huge grab bag of random characters to come up with the offerings for “Moe’s Ark.”  People keep asking why it’s named that. I suspect now that it has to do with the “Two of Everything” concept.

And I get it. We have more than 600 different episodes from which to pull…so why not just close your eyes and reach into the bag, and see if you can make it work with the Event Theme (that someone most likely came up with while doing the same sort of word game).

And not to take away from the overall outcome, like a good Gumbo, it’s not so much that all of the parts actually make sense, its how you use them.  But, trying to make some connections to the episodes and the title?  Uhm…not so much.

Let’s break down where some of the Primary Prize Characters came from.  But, I’m warning you…if you are looking for “Moe” or “Ark” or even “Zoo” in the titles…you are going to be confused.

WDTCF? – Roy, Pootchie, His Car Et al

I’m going to start right off by asking if you read my other elaborate “WDTCF” that covered a bunch of this…from the same episode that is now offering Poochie?

No?  You mean you don’t read every word I write on this blog…laboriously researching characters, and putting my personal flair on the details?  Come on…really?

Oh. Well…seeing as how this mini-update is weirdly more interesting and rewarding in the 2 weeks it covers, than the entire 6+ week version we just endured, I’m surprised you are reading anything at all.

But…for those who are still wondering where Poochie, Roy and a bunch of other stuff came from…

WDTCF- The rEAlity Channel, The RC Van, Mrs. Scratchy and the “Marge Squirrel”

I’ve mentioned before about EA/Gracie’s weird penchant for selecting characters that are barely in an episode. This time…they have really “Jumped the Marge” in that both of these characters don’t appear in an episode…but in an episode within an episode…as in episodes of Itchy and Scratchy.

Let’s agree that the Itchy and Scratchy cartoons are very short…so anything that is in them most likely has even shorter screen time. Well…Mrs. Scratchy and the “Disapproving Squirrel” certainly meet that low standard.

Along with the Reality Channel and the RC Van, we have characters from three very different episodes…and none staying on screen for more than a few seconds.

Odd…and yet…somewhat predictable these days. The more obscure, the better chance we have of seeing them in the game. But, I digress…
Where do these items come from??? Continue reading

WDTCF – Ronald Reagan and the RR Re-Education Center

It is pretty amazing how little things a President does while in office, can have huge, and perhaps unintended consequences that rattle for decades afterward. What is even more amazing to me, is the “Frog in the pot” scenario that happens as things change so slowly, it is almost imperceptive, until it is prevalent. What does this have to do with Ronald Reagan and the Re-Education Center?  I’ll get to that…

As it pertains to TSTO and the Simpsons, Ronny appears in several scenes over several episodes. But, usually as a quick flash, a pic on the wall, or in one case, a head.  But, he does have a speaking role in one of my favorite non-political episodes of all time.  I’ll get to that as well.

When I was researching this post, I was reminded how little I actually watched the Simpsons in what we are now calling the “aughts” (the first decade of the 2000s). When I started re-watching some of them, I was surprised by how overtly political they were.  Yes…a lot of these episodes were in the post 9/11 era, and during election years. But, it now seems like we are ALWAYS in an election year…and the current episodes aren’t as overt. So maybe the writers just got tired of trying to use a cartoon show as a bully pulpit, and have switched over to less-than-subtle references in a mobile game.

The Re-Education Center is really at the heart of ONE episode…while Ronny is kinda smattered all over the place.  Let’s take a look…

Special Pride Event – WDTCF – J. Edgar Hoover

Yes. It’s another “Pride Event” in our Springfields.  I want to remind everyone that this isn’t the place (and is never going to be) to air your opinions about gay marriage, Leviticus, the LGBQT community, or anything else that is a political hot potato.  The fact is, EA/Gracie seem to choose to deal with every major holiday (as well as most of the minor ones), with tongues planted firmly in cheek, reminding us that there are far bigger things to worry about in this world than the pettiness that comes from such political/religious debates.

That said…there is no doubt at all, that the “Gill Deal” for Pride Week may ruffle a few (boa) feathers. J. Edgar Hoover is one of the most controversial figures of the 20th century.  I will dive into some of that history in a minute. But, the primary cautionary tale about his story (and the less than subtle way EA/Gracie are dealing with it) has more to do with the need to be proud of who you are…no matter who you are. Hence his slightly ambiguous introduction into “Pride Week.”

It is a fascinating story, whether you deem J. Edgar as worthy of his 199 donut price or not.

Where Did That Come From? – Act I Almost Everything From One Place…Itchy Scratchy Land

This is one of those events, where at least for Act I, it is almost easier to write about what ISN’T from one episode of the Simpsons. But, if we are going to stay true to form, I’ll just list all of the things that ARE from this single episode.

  • Itchy’s Mine Field
  • Itchy & Scratchy Helicopter
  • Roger Meyers Sr. Statue
  • Itchy & Scratchy Banner
  • Itchy & Scratchy Land Ticket Booth
  • Itchy Parking Lot, Scratchy Parking Lot
  • Nurse’s Station
  • Itchy and Scratchy Land Gate

Got it?  So…really…the only things from Itchy and Scratchy Land from Act I, that AREN’T in this episode, are…well…Diane. That’s it. Just Diane.

So which episode is it?  (drum roll please…)

Where Did THAT Come From – Springfield Jobs Act 3 Characters!

Safi here, giving Wookiee a hand with these WDTCF. With WDTCF being a staple of TSTO Addicts, I’ll try to keep as true to the format as possible (by which I mean I’ll copy and paste one of Wookiee’s posts and just change the necessary info). Hope I make the Wookster proud. Enjoy:

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

It’s Springfield Jobs time here in all of our tiny tappable towns and my “job” is to tell you where those characters, buildings, and decorations in your “Springfield” came from.

It’s time for one of my favorite parts of being a reader here at this amazing site. That’s right… new stuff for us to talk about just WHERE it all comes from in the Best. Show. Ever. I’m always a fan of new things even though a lot of the coolest things cost precious sprinklies. It’s always a pleasure to re-watch episodes of the Best. Show. Ever. For this round of origins, we’ll be taking a look at the Characters released in Act 3 of the 2018 Springfield Jobs event:

Where Did That Come From? – Duff Float, Bathtub Brewery, Howard K Duff and More…

Let’s just start off with the reality that St. Patrick’s Day is pretty much a huge drunk-fest.  The real origins have long been forgotten, and in the hotbed of  American Irish Catholic cities (NYC, Boston, Pittsburgh etc.), it is a weirdly non-Christian/Christian celebration with a history of exclusion that makes one scratch his head…but, mostly because his head is numb from drinking too much green beer. It gets even more convoluted on Columbus Day…but, that is an entirely different kind of alcohol, without the food coloring. But, I digress…

The episode on which most of the St. Patrick’s Day/Homer -vs-The 18th Amendment Green/Beer/Shamrock stuff, is from an episode of the same name. No. Not Shamrock Stuff…but, Homer vs the 18th Amendment (S8E18).

You wanna have a full-blown…real-deal booze fest?  Then buckle in kids…because this episode is loaded…as in smashedtrashed…and besotted.
