What has become increasingly evident over more than 600 episodes, is that the “Couch Gag” has often taken on a status that can actually outshine the rest of the episode. Like Saturday Night Live, the opening segment is often the best part of the show. There have been loads of “guest directors” for the couch gags, with some providing simply amazing sequences in their scope and creativity.
I won’t weigh in on whether this week’s couch gag (S28E14) outshines the rest of the episode (I’ll leave that for another time). But, I WILL say, that I do like it when “The Simpsons,” which has clearly earned “revered old man” status in the pantheon of Prime Time animated shows, flexes a bit and takes the competition down a peg or two.
But, there is also an inside bit of humor that made me laugh. For Matt Groening, I suspect that part of this couch gag was a personal swipe at a family member.
Pack those bags and grab your boarding passes because it’s time to go Around the World with The Simpsons! The Around the World Event is in full swing in our pocket-sized Springfields and that can only mean one thing….all new prize tracks to work our way through!
This Event is broken up into 3 Acts, with each Act containing part of the story. To help you move along with the event you’ll get several prizes per Act. Each prize will either be something fun for Springfield or something to help you move along in the event. For the Second Act you’re tasked with collecting Japanese Pins () to unlock each prize!
The second Act 2 Prize awarded at 12,038 is the Osaka Seafood Concern Squid, because you need someone to remind you “knife goes in and guts come out”…
So let’s take a closer look at this second prize and just what happens when you unlock it in your Springfield…
Pack your bags and prepare for an invasive screening at the airport because it’s travel time in Springfield! And while our towns are embracing their ever expanding airports, our donut bank is shrinking because there are LOADS of worldly items in our stores just tempting us with those sprinkles!
Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks awesome because it’ll be gone soon. But don’t sweat it! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.
Wondering if you should add the Battling Seizure Robot to your Springfield? Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this seizure inducing cartoon to your Springfield…
It’s that time of the week again, time for the Addicts Weekly Open Thread! So, let’s get the conversation going! Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long. This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!
Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING. Just no Add me requests…those should go here. We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.
So, here is your Open Thread…..

Hey hey friends! So after a bit of a break, The Simpsons is back with new episodes and the wait for more new hilarity is over. Since the show is back, so am I and it’s time for another episode recap for y’all. One of the many features we like to have on this site is recaps of new Simpsons episodes for all our friends who can’t watch them immediately or like our silly reviews of them. I love when there are new episodes of the Best. Show. Ever. on TV and it’s my privilege to not only watch new episodes, which I would do with or without this awesome site, but then break them down for all of you. I stuck to the stream of consciousness format for this. Basically I watch the episode once for my enjoyment and then a couple more times to catch as much as I can while jotting down notes. Without further ado… here’s my thoughts on Season 28, Episode 14: Fatzcarraldo.
Just dropping in with a quick announcement about the next Addicts Live…..
Mark your calendars because the next episode of Addicts Live will be airing Next Saturday (February 25th) at noon EST (for timezone converter check here).

And if you can’t make the live stream, but still have a question you want to ask you may do so in the comments of this post or by emailing us at TSTOAddictsblog@gmail.com.
And remember, you don’t have to ask us personal questions. Your question can be about anything TSTO related or not. Need help with something in your Springfield? Have a design question? Stuck on a questline? Ask away!
As far as what you’ll need for the live stream? Well nothing different! No new program to sign up for. Just check out TSTO Addicts on Saturday February 25th and watch for the Addicts Live post around noon. From there you’ll be able to directly play the stream…as if you were watching a regular embedded YouTube video! Nice and simple!
One of the most interesting aspects of having a blog that is truly international is the fact that the readers are…well…truly international! It’s an amazing fact to know that TSTO blogs like this are read in more than 110 countries around the world. Yes, there are surely “pockets of extreme tapperage” going on in certain locations (New Jersey as Blog Central comes to mind), but there is far more to this particular update than meets the eye at first (or even second or third) glance.
There is a certain irony that we are being tasked to send travelers across the globe in our games while actual world travel is becoming a “bit more complicated” to put it nicely. But as always, we will leave the politics to other radicalized sources of propaganda (FaceBook), and celebrate the amazing diversity of players/readers we have here.
About a month ago we challenged you guys to design the next event in TSTO with our Main Event Contest and WOW did you guys respond! We were COMPLETELY blown away by your submissions! We then read each and every one of your entries over and over, trying hard to narrow it down to the finalists. You guys had such AMAZING ideas and it was nearly impossible to narrow it down, but we finally picked 10 finalists. Then we left it up to you guys, the AMAZING Addicts Community to vote for your favorite and pick the winner.
Well the votes have been cast and the totals are it…and all we can say is you guys had as hard of a time picking a winner as we did picking the finalists! It was an insanely close battle!
So enough stalling from me…let’s get to the winners!!
Since the event started the Osaka Flu has been spreading through our towns faster than germs on a public drinking fountain.
So fast that over 104% of the world is infected.
I guess that means we’ve covered Earth and we’re working on Mars now….
So I figured let’s test this out, and see if any of the Addicts readers have yet to be infected by the Osaka Flu. Because in theory if the virus has spread to every Tapper on Earth (and some on Mars) than every Addict should have it. So…
And as a quick reminder from this post to get the details on how Osaka works and spreads.
And remember, to level up you need to clear pins from neighbor visits to your Springfield. So in order to level up you need neighbors to visit your Springfield. You can add neighbors via our Add Friends thread here.
What are your thoughts on the 104% infection spread rate? Has Osaka invaded your Springfield? What level are you on? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!
