Where Did THAT Come From – Simpson Laser Tag

Hey hey tap ballers! In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

So with the Tap Ball Event, all sorts of new stuff has appeared in our games. One of the new premium buildings being offered is Simpson Laser Tag. Weird… its says enjoy the fad while it lasts and has an image of a younger Abe Simpsons. What’s that all about?  When and where did it actually appear in the Best. Show. Ever.? Let’s check out the Simpsons TV Series to find out, shall we?

“That ’90s Show” (S19:E11)

So first off, I have to say how much I love this premium item. This episode is my oldest daughter’s favorite so anything from it in my digital town makes me happy. Always nice to think of the ones you love and this reminds me every time I see it. And yes, I have discussed with her classic Simpsons vs. new episodes. The kiddo knows what she knows like all teenagers. I guess I should just be happy she digs the era her padre had his formative years in.

Anywho… this episode is a flashback piece detailing some of the early days of Homer and Marge’s romance. Marge went to college and Homer was a grunge rockstar. It was a turbulent part of their life in a wild decade called the 90s. “The Iraq war was over once and for all, a struggling Matt Groening created Futurama and young people believed in their dreams thanks to a show called Melrose Place.” Marge and Homer were dating and had moved into their first apartment. Homer had a musical dream to perform “inoffensive urban lite hip hop smooth grooves.”

Homer, Lenny, Carl and Lou in a boy band a la Boyz II Men is pretty great. So Marge is off to college at Springfield University but it’s expensive. Homer insists she go and pays for it by swallowing his pride and working for his dad. Recognize this beauty?

So we learn Grampa owned a leaser tage emporium in the 90s. Not the best of jobs for Homer “but Marge’s education was worth all the pistol whipping in the world.”

The rest of the episode includes our favorite couple’s breakup, Marge running off with her professor, Homer spiraling into diabetes as lead singer for Sadgasm and lots of great 90s references. No soup for you! Also a lot of Guitar Rock Utilizing Nihilist enerGiEs aka GRUNGE. “He who’s tired of Weird Al is tired of life.”

I’m sure it doesn’t need to be said that Homer and Marge make up but it is funny when Bart asks at the end if they did. And that’s it my friends… Simpson Laser Tag comes from a pretty aiight episode. Also funny to me that laser tag turned out not to be just a fad and continues on. Wonder if Grampa Simpson wishes he’d kept his business? I gotta say I agree with my little ewok that this episode is All That. Do you like the nostalgia in the game? What’s your thoughts on the new premium offering? Are you a fan of Sadgasm too? Miss the 90s, gunge, flannel and Seinfeld? Hit up the comments with your thoughts and keep on tappin in the free world.
