From the World of Groening: Homer at Bat and Futurama?!

Advertisements

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Taking a break from the Around the World Event to bring you some news from the World of Matt Groening.  In this case news from two of his most iconic shows…The Simpsons and Futurama…

First up, let’s start with some Simpsons news…

This past Monday (February 20th), was the 25th anniversary of the debut of “Homer at Bat” (S3 E17)….the epic episode where Homer makes the “Wonder Bat”,  featuring baseball legends: Ozzie Smith, Wade Boggs, Darryl Strawberry, Don Mattingly, Steve Sax, Mike Scioscia, Roger Clemens, Jose Canseco & Ken Griffey Jr.  Seriously who can forget Ozzie Smith forever falling into Springfield’s Mystery Spot (snapping pictures all along the way) or Ken Griffey Jr hopped up on nerve tonic? (Gigantism anyone?)

Such a classic episode…

Anyone that has followed this blog knows two things for sure about me.  I LOVE baseball.  And “Homer at Bat” is my absolute favorite episode of The Simpsons ever.

Well, this May the Simpsons and baseball are coming together once again…as Homer J Simpson will be “inducted” into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown New York, as the Hall honors “Homer at Bat”!

Saturday, May 27th (from 9:30-11 am) the Hall of Fame will feature a Roundtable discussion with baseball legends (and Hall of Famers) Ozzie Smith and Wade Boggs…AND Al Jean, Mike Reiss and others who worked on the classic episode. How crazy awesome is that?!

The Baseball Hall of Fame is only about 3 and a half hrs from here and it’s an important place for my husband and I, it’s where we got engaged. So I’m hoping we’ll be able to make the trip up to attend the Round Table!  Of course if we do I’ll be sharing photos/details with you guys.

Next up…some very exciting news from the world of Futurama!

Finally, a Futurama “city builder” mobile game is coming!

Just announced yesterday, TinyCo (yes, the makers of the Family Guy mobile game) have teamed up with FOX and Matt Groening, to create a mobile game (in the style of TSTO and Family Guy) all about Futurama!

Straight from the mouth of TinyCo, the Worlds of Tomorrow game will feature writing from the show’s original writers and TinyCo has been working with the original animators on Futurama (Rough Draft Studios).  AND both Matt Groening and David X .Cohen have been busy creating content for the new game!

This should be epic!

Both Groening and Cohen have weighed in on the new game:

“I love this game because it feels just like Futurama,” said Matt Groening, creator and Executive Producer of Futurama and The Simpsons. “Except now you get to jab the characters in the face.”

“Futurama is back, bigger and better than ever!  Or possibly smaller and equally good. But either way, it’s back!” said David X. Cohen, co-developer with Matt Groening and Executive Producer of Futurama. “We’ve got completely new stories from the original writers, cast, and animators. This is the real Futurama deal.”

Rumor has it, they’re looking to release the game this summer….but no official date has been set yet.
