Simpsons News: Awesomeness in California

What a week.  Ewok brought me home a bag of Jalapeno Cheetos, her little sister lost her first tooth, passed a midterm and bought Sweeney Todd.  Not too shabby a week and then Wookieemama came home and gave me some of the Best. News. Ever.

SPRINGFIELD IS COMING TO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS IN HOLLYWOOD!!!

No kidding.  My family is a bunch of theme park nerds and we all have passes to both Disneyland and Universal.  On April 8th, 2014, Universal had a press release about additions to their theme park.  Among all the exciting news was that they will be bringing Springfield to the park Spring 2015.  I don’t know about you but I am on cloud 9 right about now.  The next year can’t go fast enough.  Here’s an excerpt from the press release which included the image above.

2015 will be a momentous year for the theme park with two spectacular attractions debuting as part of the 50th anniversary. “Springfield” an immersive land surrounding “The Simpsons Ride” will open in Spring 2015 and in Summer 2015, “Fast & Furious—Supercharged,” based on the blockbuster film series, will be introduced as the grand finale to the celebrated Studio Tour.

The former layout of the park will become unrecognizable when “Springfield” hometown of America’s favorite family, The Simpsons, breathes new life to the sprawling and vibrant space surrounding “The Simpsons Ride.” “Springfield” will capture the spirit of the town and engage visitors and fans of the show in the intensely absorbing and colorful world made famous throughout the series’ 25 seasons.

“Springfield” is being designed to make guests feel as if they are being propelled through their television sets into the accurately depicted city, complete with signature eateries from Krusty Burger to Luigi’s Pizza and Phineas Q. Butterfat’s 5600 Flavors Ice Cream Parlor to iconic watering holes like Moe’s Tavern and Duff’s Brewery.

Here’s the link if you want to see what else they announced.

Having had the chance to visit the Florida version, I am so stoked it is coming to my local park.  I will of course be visiting and seeing what I can find out.  Next week, I plan to go for the Minion ride and I’ll see what info I can get from employees.  I certainly can’t wait to have another Krusty Burger and Duff.

Right now, Hollywood just has the Simpsons Ride and Kwik-E-Mart (more info here), but the future is looking bright for this Wookiee and all Simpsons lovers. This also gives me hope for longevity of the show since Universal is spending a lot of D’oh for this expansion.  I think we need to plan a TSTO fan outing in Spring 2015… just saying.  That’s all but I really had to share.

TTFN… Wookiee out!
