Where Did THAT Come From – Boxing Ring

Advertisements

Hey hey tap ballers! In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

So with the Tap Ball Event, all sorts of new stuff has appeared in our games. One of the premium items offered to add more sports stuff into our games wase the boxing ring.  But what does it have to do with Tap Ball and all its assorted rules and silliness? When and where did the ring  actually appear in the Best. Show. Ever.? Let’s check out the Simpsons TV Series to find out, shall we?

I don’t know about you friends, but the first thing I think of when I combine the words Simpsons and boxing is Bart and Homer playing the boxing video game in “Moaning Lisa” (S1:E6). There’s also a boxing ring in “Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment (S2:E13) and the first appearance of Drederick Tatum but these references are just me reminiscing about old school Simpsons episode.

To find our new boxing ring, we head to “The Homer They Fall” (S8:E3). For those unacquainted, this is the episode where Homer realizes he’s good at taking poundings (courtesy of Dolph, Nelson and Jimbo’s dads) and decides to become a boxer with Moe as his trainer. Kid Georgeous aka Kid Presentable aka Kid Gruesome aka Kid Moe may have never made it to the big time because of politics and being knocked out 40 times in a row, but he trains Homer. Basically Homer just stands there while his opponent gets exhausted from overpunching. It works too… Homer wins a bunch and becomes #1 in the Association of Springfield Semi-Pro Boxers aka ASSBOX.

Homer’s boxing gains the attention of Lucius Sweet. Basically just like Don King but with a different name. He’s the manager of Drederick Tatum and wants Homer for his boxer’s comeback fight. Tatum is being released from prison and Homer is just the stalwart pugilist to take a beating and sustain verticality for three rounds. Moe is worried Homer will be soundly beaten but the money proves too much and Moe offers the fight to Homer.

The fight is billed as Tatum vs. Simpson Payback. The only forum for a premiere boxing event… the Springfield Coliseum.

I don’t want to ruin the fight for y’all… but I can say the boxing ring available in our games totally comes from this episode.

Speaking of boxing… remember this Homer dialogue from “Tennis the Menace” (S12:E12) while watching Bart and Lisa play tennis.

Homer:What on Earth are you doing?
Lisa: Practicing tennis.
Homer: That’s tennis?! Oh! Then, what’s the one where the chicks whale on each other?
Bart: Foxy Boxing?
Homer: Yes! That’s what I wanted! Aww!

Good ol’ Homer Jay… always good for a laugh. So that rounds out the origins for one of our new premium decorations in TSTO. What do you think of it? Do you have a special placement for it? Want Lucius Sweet in the game too? Sound off below. Stay classy and all that good stuff.  Origin stories done so I’ll sign off.

TTFN Friends… Wookiee out!
