Where Did THAT Come From – Kiosk, Orphan Alley & sciencewater

Faster than an event speeding donut spender! More powerful than a local Addict! Able to leap long comment threads in a single bound! Look! Up in the TSTO-niverse! It’s a building! It’s a decoration! It’s Superheroes 2016!

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

So unless you’ve been locked away in Lucite, by now you probably realize a new event has splashed all over the screens of our beloved game. Lots of new stuff and that means I have one heck of a job to do letting you know where all the new “super” things come from. Origin stories are sort of the bread and butter of any comic book story worth its proverbial weight in Booster Gold, so I’m back at my usual antics again. For this issue of WDTCF, we’ll be looking at…

Kiosk – 3rd Social Battle Prize
Orphan Alley – Free
sciencewater – the schtuff you earn by tapping criminals and can use to heal fighters in a battle

EA seems to once again like helping me out with my job. For the Kiosk, they did all the work (that’s said tongue in cheek since they obviously know what inspired things) and point us towards “Revenge Is a Dish Best Served Three Times” (S18:E11). I’ll admit I didn’t immediately know the origin but I’d have probably found it considering the episode it’s from is a true-blue Superhero episode and I usually re-watch any that completely fit in with an event.

The third segment of this three-parter about revenge is all about Bartman. I wrote more about this one in the origin for the skin but I know folks like pics of TSTO stuff from the show, so who am I to not hook it up for all you superdudettes and dudes? Bart’s first on screen act as Bartman in this episode (a much better name than the crimson cockaboy) is to stop a robber from jacking Apu’s newspaper kiosk. “That thief stole all my Harold’s Tribunes and Herald Tribunes.”

Also noteworthy to point out that Orphan Alley was most likely inspired by this episode. Bartman’s parents did die in an alley just like Thomas and Martha Wayne (read Batman origins).  Now I want to digress about a certain plot point of a recent Super movie but I’ll abstain. The name Orphan Alley is pretty obvious though.  The whole look of New York City, err Springfield, err Gotham in the segment looks a lot like the new item. I just think of every felon fight as holding up Bart’s promise to avenge Homer in a “flamboyant, impractical fashion.”

Next up, sciencewater. It may not be a permanent addition to our towns, but it does originate in an episode. In “Waverly Hills 9021-D’oh” (S20:E19), Marge is power walking at the beginning and comes across a booth for sciencewater.

The “label is all in lower case” and it’s “like drinking e e cummings.” All of the flavors are named after real words. “Nourish. Vitality. Purple. Potato Lime. I Love the 90s. New Car Smell.” Marge feels a little over-hydrated after trying all of them but the salesman says that’s fine, “your bladder’s full of science. Now excuse me, our company just went bankrupt.”

That’s really it. I guess I could point out that sciencewater is parodying SoBe’s lifewater (I love the pomegranate one) but suffice to say that Marge’s non-alcoholic overdrinking is what gets the rest of the story going. The rest of the episode is more of a Springfield Heights thing and I don’t want to go there. In TSTO, the sciencewater company is apparently back in business and supplying drinks for our heroes to recharge themselves in felon battles. What flavor do you think they’re drinking? Anyhoo… what do you think of the items? Had you seen these episodes? Happy that EA tells you origins now? Sound off in the comments and I hope you have a regularly hydrated super kind of day.
