Field Report from Springfield in Hollywood

Hey hey hey tappereenos!

Admittedly, it has been a little bit since I reported on anything about Krustyland in Hollywood and for that I apologize.  Here at Addicts, I’m sort of the resident them park guy since I have a pass to Universal Studios Hollywood.  Being super stoked about the press release of Springfield coming to my home state in Spring 2015 (check out this post), I find myself eager to check out the progress.  Well, I went back in April and I’m here to share what I saw.  Apologies for the delay in getting this to you but I’m blaming Easter.

Ok… before you think I’m uber cool or anything, I have to admit I only went to Universal this day because a) it was Spring Break from college and b) I really wanted to go on the new Minion Mayhem ride they’d opened.  That ride is a lot of fun and minions are hilarious to me.

Of course, this fuzzball couldn’t visit Universal without also going on my favorite ride in the park.  As I walked towards The Simpsons Ride, I marveled that construction had already begun on bringing Springfield to the theme park.  From the height of the girders, it’s also going to be different from the look of Florida. Makes me think that image at the top of the post might be brought to reality.

After zooming through Krustyland on The Simpsons Ride, my little sister and I had to go on the World Famous Studios Tour.  It’s really a cool experience if you’ve never done it.  King Kong, Backlots, Earthquake, and a whole lot more.  I really love seeing the Psycho set and also the plane crash set from Spielberg’s War of the Worlds.

Coming back towards the Simpsons area from the tour, here’s another view of the construction.

And here’s another view from standing right in front of the Kwik-E-Mart that serves as a gift shop.  For anyone well-acquainted with USH, yes, Doc Brown’s Chicken Restaurant has been paved away for this new stuff.  Small price to pay for Krusty Burger, Moe’s, etc plus since the Back to the Future Ride became The Simpsons quite a while ago, it was pretty dated.

All this construction has me so excited.  Spring really can’t come fast enough.  I chilled out by the side of the KEM (themed as the Android’s Dungeon for now, Moe’s is painted on the back side) watching construction for a while until my sis insisted we go do other things.

One last thing I wanted to point out is that my prediction back in March that Universal was bringing games of chance to Hollywood was spot on.  Here’s the post where I discussed this.

These new games surround the entrance to the ride and are really popular.  I think it is really neat that two of these games are in TSTO.  How cool would it be for the others to find their way into our games?

That image for the Dunking game cracks me up.  Those guys were having a lot of fun.  As Universal is one of those parks where you can indulge in adult beverages if you don’t mind paying a mint, I think this may have been involved as well.

Just to fill out the post I had in mind when I took all these picture, I also decided it was time to be even more a part of the Real Springfield.  For 5 bucks, it was time for the Wookiee to tackle Sideshow You.  The real game consist of throwing two bean bags at balloons.  You win as long as you pop one.  If you pop two, you get a bigger prize.  I only popped one (threw the bag into the same spot twice) but here’s me and my new little buddy to add to my Simpsons collection.

Well, that wraps up this field report from Springfield in Hollywood.  if I go back and see any big changes, I’ll be certain to let you know.  Please sound off in the comments if you have anything to add or discuss.  Until the next, time y’all keep on tapping in the free world.

TTFN… Wookiee out!
