Where Did THAT Come From – Fake Toll Booth

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

Woo hoo! A new mini-event is upon us and boy howdy is it fun so far. It’s all about Homer celebrating all religions in an attempt to rest every day. Pretty cool in my humble opinion. This batch of new stuff brings lots of items and that’s where I come in. I know everyone doesn’t have the same knowledge of the Best. Show. Ever. so it’s time to dive into the TV series and find this new item. This post takes a look at the Fake Toll Booth, a premium item for 30 donuts that can earn extra karmic pennies for the event.

Whenever I think of toll booths in the Best. Show. Ever., my first thought is Willie and Skinner and their mountain bikes after they realize they left the bullies locked up in a storage room for entirely too long during “Whacking Day” (S4:E20).

Skinner: “Now, we give ’em the bikes, no one sues.”
Willie: “What if they’re dead, sir?”
Skinner: “Then we ride these bikes to Mexico, and freedom, Willie, freedom!”
Willie: “Freedom? Yeah, I’ll turn you in at the first toll booth.”

And now we have a toll booth available in the game for Willie to do said turning in. Of course, you may be asking yourself what the heck this has to do with the show? We could head to “All’s Fair in Oven War” (S16:E2). At the very end of this little ditty about Marge cheating at competitive cooking, we get a toll booth and a tribute to great cinema. Turns out Brandine got famous and decided to run off with James Caan but there’s nothing a little The Godfather action by hillbillies can’t fix.

Another toll booth can be found in “Homer’s Paternity Coot” (S17:E10). This episode is all about Homer potentially having a different biological father than Abe and is a lot of fun. The toll booth really has very little to do with the whole episode other than being involved with Marge and Lisa going to the Smoke Damage Outlet Store which is having a literal fire sale and coming across a new toll road on their way.

Marge isn’t thrilled to pay for a road she uses every day so she bypasses it using The Ol’ Cheapskate Trail sparking other citizens to do the same. Now Quimby and Wiggum can’t de-python the town fountain. Nothing walls and spikes can’t fix. Well, it doesn’t fix the snakes but it is a way to force folks to pay the 75 cent toll.

Wow… I’m realizing I’m not getting any closer to the fake toll booth. There’s one last appearance that I think bears the closest resemblance to our new premium item. You may remember the reverse toll booth in The Simpsons Movie when an ostracized Simpsons family heads to Alaska. It’s where they pay you for being a native of The Last Frontier. This looks the most like the new item and considering they pay you, it’s also pretty fake.

That’s about it for this round of origins. I’m gonna pretend we finally got something inspired by the amazing movie and hope more is on the way. What do you think of the toll booth? Did you buy it? Where do you think it comes from? Sound off in the comments and happy classy tapping friends.

TTFN… Wookiee out!
