These are just a few of the FAQ’s I’ve noticed come up a lot with TSTO, and some that are just fun facts to know.

How many characters have been introduced in TSTO to date?

As of Level 32/Krustyland Expansion there are 80 Characters that have been introduced to the game at some point, either as a limited time character or a permanent addition. These include characters that have no tasks and only walk around. 

As of 3/14/19 there are 403 playable characters (not including skins) and 144 NPCs.

When I visit my friend’s town why are some of their characters dressed differently than mine?

From time to time EA will introduce a costume for a character, already in the game, that will open up a whole new quest line for that character. Sometimes these costumes come out with a big event (like Christmas and Halloween) and other times they’re introduced as part of a promotion for an upcoming episode of the Simpsons.
As of Level 32 there are 15 total costumes that have been introduced. Out of that 15 only 2 of them are permanent additions (McBain & Kamp Bart), and they both cost donuts to unlock.

What about Chief Wiggum? Doesn’t he have a costume? Sometimes I see him walking around my neighbors Springfield in a dress. 

Chief Wiggum does not have a costume, however if you send him on his 24 hour task (Go on a Stakeout) he will walk around Springfield in a dress and blue wig.

How many buildings have been introduced in TSTO to date?

As of level 32 (not including Krustyland) there have been 98 buildings released, between permanent additions, limited-time, and premium.

Do all of the buildings earn money?

No. While almost all of the buildings earn money there are a handful of buildings that do not earn money but have other tasks. Cletus’s Farm does not earn money as the other buildings do instead it earns money through growing crops, Channel 6 earns money through news broadcasts and Open Air Stage earns money through characters performing. While Springfield Downs earns money through betting on the Dog Races.
Town Hall, Moe’s Tavern, Springfield Elementary & the Police Station do not earn money. However, your neighbors can vandalize those buildings with spray paint while visiting and you earn money from cleaning up the spray paint.
Finally, Springfield Retirement Castle is the one building that does not earn money, has no tasks to earn money, and cannot be vandalized. However, it’s a building you must purchase in order to get Grandpa Simpson.

How large can I expand my Springfield to? 

Including the water and shoreline Springfield is 18×18.
Krustyland is a 10×10 square.

How much would it cost to purchase all the available land in Springfield?

To purchase all of the land in Springfield, 326 squares, it would cost $44,992,890 game dollars.
To purchase all of the land in Krustyland, 100 squares, it would cost 469,000 tickets.

        Say…what’s up with the “empty menu” you get after tapping in Santa when he walking about Springfield? Is it a glitch, that maybe is supposed to be the same as when you tap on Santa over in the task bar…when you can see who’s “been naughty and nice”? Or…at least “who’s doing a task to make you presents”???

        Or, is this perhaps a feature that’s forthcoming in the game?

        The redesign is quite extensive…perhaps overkill, but I can see why the download was ultimately SO LARGE (like 580MB on iOS). I think it’s a nice look… 🙂

          It is supposed to be that way. We assume he is similar to #1 in Stonecutters. More just a place holder for future updates once Event is done. In other words, he may become a functional character later on. He will come to use.

            Ok. Just looks pretty stupid from a gameplay standpoint…

            They should’ve left the drop down/empty Santa menu inoperative until it meant something. And activated it with an in-app update?

              It has a purpose. Tasks will come. What they did is smart. It is there for when the task appears so no more coding needed. It will just pop in there in the spot all ready for it.

            I was sitting here wondering, when a “friend” visits my Springfield and one of their actions is on an item that “generates presents” for me… Are they getting the present and at the same time, “stealing my present”???

            If so…maybe we should all stop clicking on items that would earn presents for the friend we’re visiting, and instead get the presents above the items that don’t generate presents for our friend? (In the spirit of Christmas, of course :). Does this make sense?

    When I updated to the Christmas update it started me all over!!!!! How do I get my old Springfield back? I can NOT restart all my hard work! Ugh!!! Help me please!

    I just finished the tunnel 1 but instead of getting a snowman I got an elf. Did I miss out on the snowman?

    Can’t Find.. But is there a reason to why my Stars keep going up and down? My Tree-Hugging rating was 5 stars 2 days ago, but now they’re down to 2 stars.. I haven’t removed any trees, infancy ice actually placed more. Same as the Graffiti and Criminals off the street. That was 5 stars and now it’s 1.. Does this happen to anybody else?

      Are you leveling up a lot lately? Each level requires a new goal. So you have to add MORE to hit those 5 stars. Also, watch your Righteousness as it fluctuates the most. The rest is more addition and removal of items that are linked to that conform section. So watch what you store.

    Random ? I could not find by searching — is there a limit to making boardwalk tiles? IOW if you made so many they could cover every water space would you then no longer have the option to make them? Maybe one of you has hit that wall?

    I just finished building the skinner house but the questline won’t start. The quest won’t start to build the Adult Education Annex won’t start either. How do I fix this?

    I’m on GMT+1 time. Also examined the possibilities you suggested. Have all my buildings till 10 GMT+1 not collected for several weeks but no result, my special friends who do excluded of course. So I do wonder what the daily player statement means?
    I think that a request to EA for limiting the “Origin Friends” is justified and/or that Origin automatically removes the “Origin Friends” from the players origin friend list after +- 8 weeks of not playing.
    Also want to suggest that the rules for the add friend page will include that you do not post an add with mentioning that you are a daily player if you aren’t and don’t visit your friends.

    Maybe not the correct page for a comment but don’t see a reply box on the add friends page so I use this one instead.
    Add to the rules for posting on the ‘add friends’ part! I constantly encounter messages about ‘daily player please add me’ but after you invited the player and the player accepted, I found out that they are no daily player. Also I would expect from a daily player they would visit your town. Only sometimes they do, so I would like to suggest to EA to decrease the number of friends.
    With kind regards from a daily player whom visits his friends town and only leave the Bart sign if no other buildings in town or in Krusty Land are available to get FP’s.

      It could be that you are going to an older friend page that was full and closed. If so, you need to locate the newest one. If YOU have special requirements for your neighbors, just state so on your “add me” post.

      Also keep in mind that many daily players may come across your town at times there is nothing to tap.

    Greetings, im level 27 but im still completing the edna quest line but i already have the hibberts practice currently building . Edna was saying something but i was tapping without reading to get to the quest faster and realized i clicked “ok ” in a message ( with black background) without being able to read it. The quest walkthrough doesnt say anything about that message, does anybody know? Is it maybe about some thanksgiving stuff?

    After two weeks the game is still unaviable to complete the update and log in. I deleted and download the game, there’s no problem with my internet connection, I ran out of options. Anyone had the same problem? If so I need help please. Thank you.

          Just a creature from the Futurama/Simpsons Episode. It was a tie in to that. So…you get bunnies hopping round for a bit…or a mutated Bart looking one for the task. Then gone. I wish they’d stay…but probably a coding nightmare.

    I finally got my town to 5 stars but I’m only earning 79.50%. I thought it was suppose to be 100% with a 5 star town. Any ideas?

    Hi, I just ‘discovered’ Brockman’s 1 hr task by placing a sun lounger on the beach. Are there other random things (i.e. not buildings, or items that must be placed to complete quests) that need to be placed to provide freemium characters with new tasks?

      SOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo many. Impossible to list. Benches, chairs, trees, gazebos, etc. The best thing is just look at each characters task list of ones you have. They usually will show locked and/or say “requires”

I get vandalized all the time but mine only goes down when I do it to someone else…. although this whole conform-o-meter thing is very confusing to me anyway… and yes, I’ve read the how-to. I just don’t get it. 🙂

        It happens both ways. It will depend on what YOU have to combat that hit in your town on whether or not you will be impacted by it.

    Hi,

    How can I get removed from the open add friends page to the ones who don’t pledge to vandalize ? I keep getting tagged when there are other buildings that can be tapped…? Since I find it hard to max out on other conform-o-meter points I would like to maintain the 5 star on righteousness…and don’t want to keep adding those new walls – as it stands I’m at 3 and a half stars all combined and don’t want to skip lower

      I do not see your info under the regular thread unless you posted as someone else. We always release new threads. I actually just put up a new NON Vandalism one. All I can suggest is if they tag, remove them.

    For Puritan Flanders the task for him to punish himself is locked. Now I’ve used it before, actaully earlier today to be exact, and now nothing. It’s says next it that it requires, “*(null).” Is it supposed to be like that, or is there something wrong.

      It depends on how you got him. If you got him via the Victorian ship, then you can store that. If you got him free…gonna have to wait.

    Does anyone know how to safely close Tapped Out while using an iPad Mini?

    On my Android phone, I just press the back button, and I am given the option to close the game. On the iPad, can only use the Home key, which doesn’t properly save my game before closing.

    Any tips?

      On my iPod Touch, I usually visit neighbors and/or Krustyland first so it forces the game to “sync”, then hit home to go out. From there…hit home twice to take me into the open apps screen, then swipe the app close.
