Morning Musically-Minded, Medically-Minded, Masticators!
(Today’s post is sponsored by the letter “M”)
Over the past 600+ episodes, The Simpsons has taken us on an amazing journey involving music, science, and food to name a few concepts.
And what better way to start your week, than by discussing some of these concepts Monday morning?
So let’s get started this week by talking about a popular The Simpsons original song.
In the one hundredth and fifteenth episode of The Simpsons, Homer the Great (Season 06, Episode 12), Homer is suspicious of all the perks Lenny and Carl are getting, including better parking, better chairs, better snacks and drinks. So he follows them to their “thing”.
Once there, he has a hard time getting in. And when he sneaks up on the roof and peeps in from the sub roof, the glass gives way and he is kicked out. But eventually he learns he can become a member of this secret organization, the Stonecutters, because Grampa Simpson is a member.
Once a member, he joins them in singing their song.
But have you ever wondered what the Stonecutter’s sing?
We Do
“We Do” is a song about what the Stonecutters do. The music for the song was composed by Alf Clausen and the lyrics written by John Swartzwelder. The song was nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music and Lyrics.
Alf Clausen (March 28, 1941 – Present)
John Swartzwelder (February 8, 1949 – Present)
Here are the lyrics:
Who controls the British crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do, we do!
Who leaves Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do, we do!
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
We do, we do!
Who robs cave-fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do!
We do!
Now that we’ve learned more about the song, be sure to come back next week when we continue our Monday morning musings with the next episode of The Simpsons.
Did you remember this episode? Have you ever been part of a secret club? Did you remember the episode? Did you remember the lyrics? What’s your favourite part of the lyrics? What’s your favourite original song from The Simpsons? Sound off in the comments below. You know we love hearing from you.
Unless I’m mistaken wasn’t Patrick Stuart the voice of no.1 in this episode as well?
That is correct. Patrick Stewart, aka Captain Picard, aka Professor Xavier, was aka Number 1.
I love Jean Luc Picard!! The Next Generation is my favorite Star Trek series..not a surprise to all the people that hate me out there. I know not many people would agree with me, but I think he was excellent in A Christmas Carol. Don’t forget to vote tomorrow…and Susie…I’m volunteering to drive people to the poles..believe it or not..lol.
ST:NG is my favorite of the ST franchise, too. (I thought that was fairly common, so I don’t know that there are a ton of haters out there about that.)
The original is still the best 🙂
At least if you are old enough to remember watching it before it was “The Original Series!”…
The original is my favorite too. I’m a big fan of DS9 as well.
Yes, I saw TOS when it first came out and went to my share of Star Trek conventions, starting in the mid-70s. I have a soft spot for that series, too. (The only one of the the “earlier” series that never really captured me, although I of course still watched all of it was DS9.)
Bart: Dad, you remember those self-hypnosis courses we took to help us ignore Grandpa?
Homer: Do I ever! It’s five years later, and I still think I’m a chicken! (to Marge) I’m a chicken, Marge!
Still one of the greatest episodes ever!
