Yes it’s a building and yes it’s a Walkthrough !!
Unlike most where you just tap for income and ignore ’em this is a Tap-the-building item used to craft Sculptures.
As many of you know I don’t usually do these as a Should-I-Buy, but not this time. I strongly recommend getting both this and Delbert Fornby, the Act 2 Premium character.
I’d go so far as to say do it even if you have to pay for Donut packs to get both, as long as it doesn’t leave you totally broke.
There’s a lot of info here, some of which might seem very familiar and glaringly obvious but bear in mind I’m writing with the less experienced player in mind.
I hope all the long-time tappers will please bear with me.
I’d suggest reading it all, probably at least twice, but if you come back later for a recap the topic list below is linked to that bit of the article so you can find a section quickly.
Caution: Contains math !!

In case of any doubt from reading what follows …
Buying this, and Delbert Fornby, is time-limited to while the event is on, but continuing to use it is not.
You can craft Sculptures even after the event is over.
You can craft as many Sculptures as you like.
Sculptures you unlock the Buy More for will also remain in the Store after the event ends.

• 2: Gil Dialog …:
2.1: The Deal:
Gil: Oh boy, has Gil got something special for you today!
Gil: Take a look at this! Delbert Fornby’s art studio, equipped with everything a desert artist needs.
Delbert Fornby: Hey! What’re you doin’ on my property?
Gil: You told me to sell off your property!
Delbert Fornby: I told you to GET off my property!
Gil: No, you specifically said there’s high demand for studios belonging to temperamental artists with mercurial tempers who—Oh, I get it what you’re doing
Delbert Fornby: What a dope.
Gil: What do you say, folks? Better act fast before this guy gets even angrier and the price goes up!
2.2: Say No:
Delbert Fornby: I didn’t want to sell anyway.
Gil: You’re just saying that to make me feel good.
Delbert Fornby: No, I’m saying that to make you feel bad!
2.3: Say Yes:
Before Gil wraps up there’s a short Dialog-only quest that triggers and you’ll be shown the Guide Panel ..
Desert Fires:
Homer: Ooh, what’s this place?
Delbert Fornby: My welding yard?
Homer: Welding yard?
Delbert Fornby: Yeah, welding yard. What part of “welding yard” don’t you understand?
Homer: Both parts.
Delbert Fornby: It’s my yard where I weld the art you passed on the way in here.
Homer: The stuff that looked like animals?
Delbert Fornby: No, those were probably animals. None of my art looks like what it’s supposed to.
Homer: Why’s that?
Delbert Fornby: Because it’s art!
Then back to Gil for …
Gil: Oh boy, you won’t regret this!
Delbert Fornby: Are you still here? I’m gonna break my foot off in your—
Gil: Gotta go!
2.4: Guide panel:
If you want to see this again it can be found by tapping on the Welding Yard.
The Go To button for it is above the Sculptures tasks.

• 3: Jobs …:
3.1: Delbert Fornby:
He has the following 4 hour jobs to craft a specific Sculpture.
Build Desert Totem Pole
Build Desert Person Sculpture
Build Desert Creature Sculpture
Build Desert Dog Sculpture
Build Desert Dragon Sculpture
Build Desert Bear Sculpture
Build Desert Horse Sculpture
Build Desert Gator Sculpture
Build Desert Chimp Sculpture
Build Desert Planet Sculpture
Each of these earns 70 XP and one named Sculpture.
Note that he can craft the Planet Sculptures.
He also has an 8 hour job, Experiment, which earns 105 XP and any one of the above sculptures at random.
This is useful for unlocking them to craft as you wish. More on that in the bit on Sculptures.
3.2: Regular Characters:
Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Ned, Milhouse and Nelson all have the following 24 hour jobs to craft a specific Sculpture
Attempt To Make Desert Totem Pole
Attempt To Make Desert Person Sculpture
Attempt To Make Desert Creature Sculpture
Attempt To Make Desert Dog Sculpture
Attempt To Make Desert Dragon Sculpture
Attempt To Make Desert Bear Sculpture
Attempt To Make Desert Horse Sculpture
Attempt To Make Desert Gator Sculpture
Attempt To Make Desert Chimp Sculpture
Each of these earns 150 XP and one named Sculpture.
Note that they cannot craft the Planet Sculpture.
They also have a 12 hour job, Fuse Metal Randomly, which earns 100 XP and any one of the above sculptures at random.
This is useful for unlocking them to craft as you wish. More on that in the bit on Sculptures.

• 4: Using the Welding Yard:
4.1: First Tap:
The first time you tap on the Welding Yard it will have the option to see the Guide Panel and the payout timer.
The jobs available to you for crafting sculptures will show in between these and will depend on if you picked this up during the Summer of our Discontent event and got the Act 2 prizes.

If you pick this up later as Returning Content in another event or Mystery Box you’ll likely only have the option to Experiment.
You must have at least one of an item to be able to craft more as a specific job, which is where the Experimentation comes in handy.
4:2: All Unlocked:
If you do decide to Experiment and unlock them all, and you got your hands on Delbert Fornby then you’ll have all these to go at …

You’ll notice here there’s a couple of tasks in progress, that’s covered in the next bit …
4.3: Finding Jobs:
If you have at least one character available to craft Sculptures then tapping on a Do It button in those lists above will show you who can do those jobs, even if they are not free.

You can use everyone on these tasks at once, either all on one type or spread between different Sculptures.
Each character earns a Sculpture when their task is completed, so you can make up to eight in one go.
Only Delbert Fornby can craft those Planet Sculptures.

If no-one is available, even if they are already crafting Sculptures for you, then you’ll see these 2 messages pop up.

If you want to see who is on those jobs and how long before you get your Sculptures finished scroll down to below the Payout timer under the tasks.

4.4: Rushing Jobs:
These jobs don’t come under the usual rules for a free-rush, 6 minutes for every hour up to 120 minutes for a task of 20 hours or more.
If that did apply then Delbert’s job shown with less than 24 minutes to go would be free to finish early.

It’s a shame that doesn’t work. If it did and you timed it right then you could do 6 lots of 24 hour jobs and a 12 hour job in 6 days. Oh well !!
You can rush for Donuts though, at the usual rate of 2 Donuts for every 4 hours or less to go.

5.2: Unlocking to craft:
You need to have at least one of a Sculpture crafted or earned as prize before you’ll get the option to craft as a named Sculpture.
This is why I was warning against selling those prizes.
It also means if you didn’t get this during the Summer of our Discontent event but it’s shown up in some future Mystery Box or as Returning Content then you’ll likely only have the option for Statue Experimentation at first.
I covered this briefly in the Jobs section, but it bears repeating here.
Delbert Fornby has an 8 hour job, Experiment, which earns 105 XP and any one of the above sculptures at random.
Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Ned, Milhouse and Nelson all have a 12 hour job, Fuse Metal Randomly, which earns 100 XP and any one of the above sculptures at random except for the Planet Sculptures.
Each character on a task earns a Sculpture, so making 8 at a time is an option. For each of the jobs it’ll show you what you got with the option to Place or Store.

Once you’ve crafted a particular type using the Experiment jobs you can then choose to stick to making more of that type or to continue to Experiment to unlock them all.
I set 4 characters on these tasks and rushed and it took 7 goes or 28 Sculptures before I’d crafted at least one of each type to unlock all the jobs.
5.3: Unlocking in store:
You need to have crafted or earned 5 of a type for that Sculpture to show up in store.
Prizes count, as do the ones made at random as well as those done with the jobs to make a named Sculpture.
These will be in the permanent store, so there’s no need to hurry unlocking them.
Once the game knows you’ve made 5 of a type, even if it hasn’t finished with showing you the Reward panels as above, it’ll notify you that that Sculpture is now available in store and then take you to where it is in the Store.

5.4: Selling:
You may have noticed the Sell Value for these and thought “That’s not what I was expecting.”, and you’d be right.
The usual return when selling an item is 25% of it’s original cost, or 250 $$s for every 1,000 spent.
These are only 2.5%, or 25 $$s for every 1,000 spent.
For long-time tappers it probably doesn’t matter, you won’t need the cash and would be selling just to clear clutter if you’ve been unlocking them by Experimenting, but for low to mid level players it may be an advantage.
I did warn you this contained math, here goes.
The regular characters all earn the same so I’ll use Homer as an example, and have details for Delbert if you choose to make these to sell for the money rather than use him for Planets and the bonus.
Homer’s regular 24 hour jobs earn 600 $$s
Selling a Dragon Sculpture gets you 6,250 $$s
You’d need a bonus of 941.67% to make more from a job than by selling a Dragon
Even selling a sculpture for 2,500 $$s earns more than the regular job if your bonus is less than 316.67%
Delbert’s premium 4 hour job earns 260 $$s
You’d need a bonus of 2,303.85% to make more than 6,250 $$s
You’d need a bonus of 861.54% to make more than 2,500 $$s
If you can spare all 7 regular characters from event and quest tasks you could make 43,750 $$s a day crafting and selling 7 Dragons on top of the other taps and income, which is huge for those lower levels.
Include Delbert and make another 4 a day that’s an extra 25,000 $$s.
Imagine making a million $$s in less than 2 weeks ??
I remember when getting to 10,000 was a struggle !!
If you want to figure out if it’s worth if for the mix of tasks you use in your game here’s how.
Make a note of what each of Homer’s jobs earns as you set it and how many you do so you can add up what you collect in a day. If Homer’s on quests use another regular character that’s free for you to use as you want.
Stick 00 on the end of the Sell Value of a Sculpture to multiply it by 100 and then divide that by what you earned from jobs.
Subtract 100 ( you get 100% of a job’s income with no bonus ) and that gives you the bonus you’d need to make that amount from those tasks.
Lets say you set 4 hour jobs at breakfast, sneak in a lunchtime tap for another go at 4 hour jobs then 5 lots of 1 hour jobs when you get home from work and end with 8 hour jobs set before bed.
That’s 2 x 175, 5 x 70 and 275 $$s = 975 $$s
The sharp-eyed will have spotted that’s more than the 600 $$s from a 24 hour job, but it’s only 21 hours worth of jobs.
The shorter the job the more it earns per hour, but you need to consider when you could tap.
If you just did 1 hour tasks through the day tapping as above it’s only going to get you 560 $$s from Homer.
Anyhoo – 975 $$s earned in the example.
Dragon x 100 = 625,000 divided by 975 = 641.03 meaning a bonus of 541.03% would earn more than selling a Dragon.
You can relax now, that’s me done with math !!
5.5: Bonus building:
If you got Delbert Fornby as well as this Desert Welding Yard you will be able to craft Planet Sculptures.
None of the other characters can make those.
Each of those Sculptures comes with a 2.5% bonus and you should be able to make 4 a day if Delbert isn’t on an event or quest job.
That’s a boost of 10% per day.
A bonus of 100%, gives you 2 times the money from jobs and buildings and with the collider on it’s 10 times the XP.
A bonus of 900%, gives you 10 times the money from jobs and buildings and with the collider on it’s 50 times the XP.
A bonus of 1,900%, gives you 20 times the money from jobs and buildings and with the collider on it’s 100 times the XP.
You’ll soon be a millionaire and swimming in Donuts.
The downside, at 3 x 5 in size you’ll need a lot of hiding places or a lot of land to bunch them together.
To put that in perspective, if you only had one Land Tile spare with its’ 16 x 16 squares you could only fit 15 Planet Sculptures in 3 rows of 5 covering 15 x 15 of the available 16 x 16 squares to boost your bonus by 37.5%.
If you put Jet Engine Bikes or Newsvans on that same tile you’d fit 40 in 5 rows of 8 covering 16 x 15 of the 16 x 16 squares to boost your bonus by 80%
If Snowcats come back in a Christmas event for the usual 20 Ds each, and you can spare the Donuts, then you could fit 256 of ’em using all 16 x 16 squares.
That’d boost your bonus by 512%, but it’d cost 5,120 Donuts to do it.

• 6: Why I say buy it:
For long-time tappers I’ll say this:
It’s something different and interesting IMO.
If you get it now it won’t clutter a Mystery Box later
It’ll save you worrying that it ends up as hard to get as the GGR if you miss out now and then change your mind.
For low to mid level players:
You should’ve just read the sections on selling and bonus building.
Bonus is key, and you can use the extra income to further boost what you earn with more houses and a handful of Kwik-E-Marts just bought to build for the XP before selling those and replacing them.
You may recall when I started writing on here last January I began a new town.
That’s currently sitting on a bonus of just under 6,000% with 2.7 Billion $$s and 4,400 Donuts banked. That’s a lot for an 18 month old town.
It’s mainly down to adding houses for income and using that on KEM farming to get my bonus up in the early days.
A SkyFinger tap and collecting 8 hour overnight jobs for 200+ characters gets me over 30 million $$s and 6 million XP, and just collecting 1 hour jobs gets me over a million $$s and XP !!
Enough said ??

• 7: Any questions:
Hopefully I’ve covered everything a player may need or want to know about this and how it all works, so they can make the best use of it.
If there’s anything you’re not sure of and you did as I suggested to read it all the way through twice then try checking if you can find what you want using the topics list.
If that doesn’t help, or you can’t make sense of what I wrote just ask and I’ll try and point you to the bits you need or try to rephrase the info for you.
If you notice any mistakes, or anything I’ve missed do point those out. It’s a long post and I know what I meant to say so there’s a chance I’ve missed an error or six.
If you want to tell me it’s all good, or that I’ve got it all wrong and you hate it then feel free.
What I will ask – If you spotted something in what you read, or from experience in your own game, and feel you want to shout about it … Please don’t. While such things are meant to be kind and helpful they’re often actually harmful.
That thing you wanted to tell everyone about gets noticed by EA when people post about it, and suddenly it’s not a thing at all any more.
EA do sometimes read these posts, so even typing that last bit would be a risk if there was anything they might think to change.
Blimey, that took a lot longer than expected. Genuinely thought it’d be done by Monday and posted on Tuesday for you.
It’s midnight here and I need a break before I get the Prize Post written, so that may be a little late if I can’t get started until tomorrow – sorry.

oh no……………
I must have hyper-tapped thru this part of the event.
I’m only reading about this now… 🙁
Get what your on about Graham about not making certain things to obvious & EA becoming alert .
Great post by the way !!!
Will these items still be available to craft after the event is over? Sorry if I missed that part. I read the post a couple of times and didn’t see anything mentioned.
Short answer: Yes
Sculptures – 5.3: Unlocking in store
These will be in the permanent store, so there’s no need to hurry unlocking them.
I didn’t say anything on crafting, but figured that covered it.
Thanks.
I’ve added a couple of notes to help near the top of the post ..
1.1: Clarifications to help clear up any confusion.
Do you think I need any more ??
I think you’re all set. Wish my game would stop “randomly” giving me the same two sculptures every time when I do the Experiment option though. Really annoying.
Thanks for the list of sculptures – I hadn’t realised I was missing a couple 🙂
Thanks for the thorough post! Very helpful.
I have a very unimportant question: why should a sculpture be offered for 60 donuts after you have made 5 yourself? You can make as many more as you want for free.
… and why are the others in store for $$s ??
If it suits you not to use the tasks and you wanted one now you could.
I expect not many will bother with the Buy More, but some might
Regarding the Math & sorry if this screws the whole post up, but it doesn’t account for premium costumes. If Homer et al. are normally in a premium outfit, they are earning at a higher rate, which affects how much $$ is earned & the percentages etc. This does make a huge difference.
Note that the term Regular Job is used.
This reasonably assumes a lower level player hasn’t spent Donuts on any Premium skins or on any of those buildings that come with Premium jobs.
The math is then explained for a player to tweak the bonus calculation to suit their own style of gameplay and chosen tasks.
That covers any eventuality for possible earnings.
Great Post, am missing a few of the sculptures but didn’t realise the way it works, must have messed your head up doing this post, 👍
What messed my head up was the two weeks I spent reading the files and trying to figure out how you could make the new Sculptures if you didn’t have one and they weren’t bundled with the building.
Hadn’t cottoned on to those Experiment jobs being the answer and it drove me nuts !!
Wow Graham-S, you went to a lot of work here! Thanks for the fantastic write up.
Thanks.
Sorry it took so long to get posted though …
I know I suggested reading it all twice, but I hope no-one noticed I’d actually posted it twice, copying the whole thing in again at the end of the article – OOOPS !!
The 2.5% planet sculpture bonus seems to stop after you create 5 of the sculptures? Or my 6’th one so far didn’t add to my bonus? I will have to try again and see if this was right, but has anyone else have this happen?
They should all have the 2.5% and you can make as many as you want.
Didn’t happen for me…
I made over 120 last week and they all earned 2.5%; raising my bonus percentage from 6300% to over 6600%.
Hopefully the correct person to ask this to.. Due to connection issues I lost the desert planet during the event as in I don’t think I have it at all, can Delbert make it w experiments? I am trying to avoid EA contact if I can help it..
It is possible that way.
I got an extra one from the Experiment job, but check if it is in the jobs list and you can just make it anyway.
It probably got stored, check the Decorations section
This happened to me as well. After the 5th one was made, the planet sculpture became a premium item I can buy…for 60 donuts.
You can still make more with the welding yard, they’re just also available in the store.
Amazing building, already got about 100% bonus since I got it, get it even if it costs real money. This is the new super overpowered building (ggr-type buildings).
