THOH XXVIII 101: Battle for Springfield

Welcome wonderful Wizards, Witches (with & without worts), Warlocks, Wiccans, & Werewolves!

(Today’s post is sponsored by the letter “W”)

Hope you’re ready to trick or treat because the THOH XXVIII Halloween Event has arrived in Springfield! And boy do I have some TRICKS to help TREAT you to a big jump in the Event! One new aspect introduced in Act 3 of the Halloween Event is the Battle for Springfield.

Battle for Springfield:

So in this Act, similar to the secondary task of Beast Enchanters in all three Acts, you’ll be tasked with sending characters or beasts on a tertiary task.  In this case it’s Battle for Springfield, where they will defeat Normal or Giant Lord Montymort.

From the Event Hub or in the top right of your screen, click on the Beast Tamer icon  to send characters or beasts to Battle for Springfield.

Battle of Springfield Characters and Beasts:

Battle of Springfield is initially a battle similar to Beast Enchanters, but with your characters battling Lord Montymort instead of beasts. This begins during The Vestige Pt. 1 task.

Characters that can battle Lord Montymort include:

  • Wizard Lisa
  • Wizard Bart
  • Magic Act Milhouse
  • GreyStash
  • Wizard Martin
  • Angelica Button
  • Unicorn Wizard
  • The Great Raymondo
  • Sorcerer Wizard

In The Vestige Pt. 1, you battle Normal Lord Montymort who has 4 hearts (). Each character deals a fixed amount of damage to Lord Montymort’s hearts:

Damage Characters
0.5 Heart  Wizard Lisa, Wizard Bart, Magic Act Milhouse, Unicorn Wizard, GreyStash
1 Heart  Wizard Martin, Angelica Button, the Great Raymondo, Sorcerer Frink

Up to 4 characters can battle Normal Lord Montymort and you receive 50 event currency (Toad Prince    in Act 3) per character you send.

Once your characters have defeated Normal Lord Montymort, Lord Montymort becomes a Giant and it is now up to your fully enchanted beasts to battle Lord Montymort in The Vestige Pt. 2 task.

Beasts that can battle Lord Montymort include:

  • Kearneymon
  • Wiggops
  • Lewd
  • Treestache
  • Burns Dragon
  • Crawl
  • Bully-Vern
  • Barfy

Note: Beasts must be fully Captured and Enchanted in order to battle Giant Lord Montymort.

In The Vestige Pt. 2, you battle Giant Lord Montymort who has 4 giant hearts (). Each beast deals a fixed amount of damage to Lord Montymort’s giant hearts:

Damage Characters
1 Giant Heart  Kearneymon, Lewd, Crawl, Bully-Vern, Barfy
1.5 Giant Hearts  Wiggops, Treestache, Burns Dragon

Up to 2 beasts can battle Giant Lord Montymort and you receive 100 event currency (Toad Prince    in Act 3) per beast you send.

Once your characters have defeated Giant Lord Montymort in The Vestige Pt. 2 task, Lord Montymort becomes idle for 4 hours and then alternates between Normal Lord Montymort and Giant Montymort in The Vestige Pt. 3. However, unlike Part 1 and 2 where they only have 4 hearts or 4 giant hearts, both Normal Lord Montymort and Giant Lord Montymort have 15 hearts and 15 giant hearts respectively in Part 3.

Once you’ve defeated both Normal and Giant Lord Montymort three times each in The Vestige Pt. 3, you will unlock Lord Montymort as a full playable character.

Update:  So in Vestige Pt. 3, premium players will have to send characters 4 times to defeat Normal Lord Montymort the first time (16 hours) and beasts 5 times to defeat Giant Lord Montymort the first time (20 hours) for their first defeat of Lord Montymort, Lord Montymort than takes 4 hours to heal. Premium players will again have to send characters 4 times to defeat Normal Lord Montymort the second time (16 hours) and beasts 5 times to defeat Giant Lord Montymort the second time (20 hours) for their second defeat of Lord Montymort, Lord Montymort than takes 4 hours to heal again. Premium players will once more have to send characters 4 times to defeat Normal Lord Montymort the third time (16 hours) and beasts 5 times to defeat Giant Lord Montymort the third time (20 hours) for their third and final defeat of Lord Montymort, and will then unlock Lord Montymort (total 116 hours, or just under 5 days).

In contrast, freemium players will have to send characters 8 times to defeat Normal Lord Montymort the first time (32 hours) and beasts 8 times to defeat Giant Lord Montymort the first time (32 hours) for their first defeat of Lord Montymort, Lord Montymort than takes 4 hours to heal. Freemium players will again have to send characters 8 times to defeat Normal Lord Montymort the second time (32 hours) and beasts 8 times to defeat Giant Lord Montymort the second time (32 hours) for their second defeat of Lord Montymort, Lord Montymort than takes 4 hours to heal again. Freemium players will once more have to send characters 8 times to defeat Normal Lord Montymort the third time (32 hours) and beasts 8 times to defeat Giant Lord Montymort the third time (32 hours) for their third and final defeat of Lord Montymort, and will then unlock Lord Montymort (total 200 hours, or 8 and 1/3rd days ).

And yes, I know it’s actually a few hours (10%) less if you speed the tasks for free after 3 hours and 36 min, but I’m using 4 hours for the sake of simplicity

And that’s it my friends. A quick intro into the Battle for Springfield and unlocking Lord Montymort as a full playable character.

What are your thoughts on Battle for Springfield? Have you defeated Lord Montymort at all yet? Have you defeated Lord Montymort five times and unlocked him as a full playable character? Have any tips or tricks you can share to unlock Lord Montymort? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Should be able to unlock lord Montymort by tonight. Was a real grind unlocking this guy and playing freemium. Had to get a lot of 5 times a day Tappin which is rare for me. Usually I’m 3 to 4 at most.

  2. I got act 1 & 2 easily and act 3 I will get later today, except Lord Voldymort. I only just started round 3, so I’m pretty sure I won’t get him unless EA allows us to keep battling him after the event is over, which I doubt. I’m a freemium player and there have been times I was unable to log on. It is also the first time in a few years where I didn’t buy a premium character during the event (saving up for black friday). So I know it’s not all EA’s fault I won’t get everything, but they sure made it harder for freemium players this time round. I had a feeling that when they made earning bonuts easier (with daily challenges, finding Maggie, unlimited rounds of monorail crafting, offering rebates at a regular bassis lately and earning bonuts during acts and not after) that there would be a catch. I have been saving them to finally buy the characters that appear frequently during the show that are still in my store, but feel like EA is kinda pushing us to spend our donuts/bonuts on events or risk not being able to finish them… I may be wrong, but it seems I’m not the only one struggling. It also shows in the store and craftables. The things that cost in-game cash is the same stuff the use every year and half the craftables I already have from previous years. All the new stuff is premium. To me this makes TSTO lose it’s appeal. I hope I’m wrong and I’m already looking forward to the Winter event.

  3. So I’m about to finish the second round of battling and there’s no way I’m gonna finish in time (at least I don’t hunk I will) so what happens if we don’t finish?

Will the task continue after the event?

  4. Every time I battle Monty Mort there is only one position open! Meaning on door to,fill. How do I populate the fights with more than one character to make the fighting go faster than one at a time? How do I get al four doors open to fight MontyMort with four at a time?.?.?
    Please HELP

  5. Just realised I was counting Vestige Pt 1 and 2 as if they were part of the Defeat Lord Montymort quest, but they don’t count towards the 0/3, 1/3 issue we’re talking about because that’s Pt 3 of the questline.

Safi, you should clarify though, while for a freemium it might be 200 “hours”, that doesn’t really equate to 8 & 1/3 days unless you log in EVERY 4 hours continuously (even when you should be sleeping). In reality most plays can only log in 4 or 5 times a day, which would correspond to something like 13 or 10 days respectively to get the character. I can’t remember what date Montymort actually entered the game, but that sort of stat means it would be really tough for a freemium player to finish the quest without spending donuts or becoming a zombie (maybe that’s EA’s plan – zombies for Halloween). But that info would have helped freemium players to know they’d have to really push. Unless my number are wrong.

I’d be keen to know how many freemium players got this easily. Maybe a poll would be handy like some of the other previous difficult events

  6. I don’t think Montymort will be possible for me. One of the very few such things I have missed in TSTO. 4 or 5 rounds of 4 hour cycles per day just doesn’t seem enough! Am on 1/3 and half way through the second ‘small’ Monty. Strane for this game.

  7. Have unlocked lair of Montymort but can’t find it in storage

  8. I am having issues with Lord Montymort too. I am at 0/3. Its doing a weird flip where I am almost done with kids defeating him. Then next time I go into the game, I start all over with monsters. So so frstrating.

    • You only go up to 1/3 after both your kids AND beasts defeat him. After your kids defeat 15 hearts, he is supposed to stay at 0/3. Once your beasts are done defeating 15 giant hearts, then you’ll see 1/3.

  9. for those having issues with lord montymort…. an in-game update patch was issued yesterday, which should’ve fixed the issue with him getting stuck battling at the magic academy.

    • Wish I could say it is fixed 😪 Been doing battles 4x a day since the getgo and it still says I’ve only completed 1/3.

      • I have a feeling the same thing happened to me – I’ve gone through 2 cycles of battles (normal & giant) but only been credited for 1/3 (although the grinding does tend to numb the perception a little…)

        • Michael D Burger

Same! I defeated him with kids and monsters twice but only have 1 credit for beating him. And now with 15 hearts (which he’s had twice now) there is no way I can finish him in 4 days.

    • You have to beat him with both kids and monsters to go up one. It’s a long hard slug fest to beat him the full 3 times. It should take several days working full time.

  10. I have been battling Mortymort for over 2 days and and don’t seem to be making progress, His big, his little, His Big, His little… doesn’t seem to end.
But what really has me ticked of is a daily challenge, “send Springfielders on Enchanter Jobs”. But I have completes all of the enchanter jobs it will let me. So I have been skipping this challenges for a number off days.
Not sure what is going on…
I have not missed much time, doing 4 hr task 4 time a day…

    • It should eventually, after your:
      – characters defeat Normal Lord Montymort’s 4 hearts in Vestige Part 1 (about 4-8 hours),
      – beasts defeat Giant Lord Montymort’s 4 giant hearts in Vestige Part 2 (about 8 hours),
      – Lord Montymort goes down for 4 hours
      – characters defeat Normal Lord Montymort’s 15 hearts in Vestige Part 3 (about 16-32 hours),
      – beasts defeat Giant Lord Montymort’s 15 giant hearts in Vestige Part 3 (about 20-32 hours),
      – Lord Montymort goes down for 4 hours and you should show 1/3 defeats,
      – characters again defeat Normal Lord Montymort’s 15 hearts in Vestige Part 3 (about 16-32 hours),
      – beasts again defeat Giant Lord Montymort’s 15 giant hearts in Vestige Part 3 (about 20-32 hours),
      – Lord Montymort goes down for 4 hours again and you should show 2/3 defeats,
      – characters again defeat Normal Lord Montymort’s 15 hearts for third time in Vestige Part 3 (about 16-32 hours),
      – beasts again defeat Giant Lord Montymort’s 15 giant hearts for third time in Vestige Part 3 (about 20-32 hours),
      – You have completed 3/3 defeats and unlocked Lord Montymort

See, the quest does end. It just takes 220 hours (just over 9 day). [Or 132 hours (5.5 days) if you have all the premium characters and beasts]

As for the Daily Challenge, you can just hit “X” on it every 12 hours until you find one that you like.

      • I know I can X out the daily challenge, but I want the toads! lol
WOW this is a marathon event, was any others lasted this long?
EA trying to weed out the non enthusiist?

        • Generally we get 6 majors events per year, which for the past few years have comprised of 3 2-week long Acts, for a total of 6 weeks.

  11. i too have defeated Montymort 2x but only have credit for having done it once. this blows bigtime.

    • Just to confirm, when you say you’ve defeated him 2 times, you mean your:
      – characters defeated Normal Lord Montymort’s 4 hearts in Vestige Part 1 (about 4-8 hours),
      – beasts defeated Giant Lord Montymort’s 4 giant hearts in Vestige Part 2 (about 8 hours),
      – Lord Montymort was down for 4 hours
      – characters defeated Normal Lord Montymort’s 15 hearts in Vestige Part 3 (about 16-32 hours),
      – beasts defeated Giant Lord Montymort’s 15 giant hearts in Vestige Part 3 (about 20-32 hours),
      – Lord Montymort was down for 4 hours and you should have shown 1/3,
      – characters again defeated Normal Lord Montymort’s 15 hearts in Vestige Part 3 (about 16-32 hours),
      – beasts again defeated Giant Lord Montymort’s 15 giant hearts in Vestige Part 3 (about 20-32 hours),
      – Lord Montymort was down for 4 hours and you should have shown 2/3

Just to confirm, you went through this whole 152 hours (6 and a 1/3 days) process? [Or 92 hours (just under 4 days) if you have all the premium characters and beasts]

  12. Act 3 is turning out to be a real grind. I should get Count Dracula no problem, but Lord Montymort will take me right to the last day of the act. But trying to think of him as more of a bonus since he’s not part of the main prize track.

  13. Okay, here is my update. I just fully beat montymort for a second time 4 hours ago. Only shows I beat him once. And he is rehealed and kids are going at it again. I might be able to push in two more wins but I’m highly upset that I have beat him twice and showing once. Has anyone contacted EA and or found anything out!??

    • Few people have had the issue, but fortunately seems like things are working fine. I’m among the few people who had no issues and unlocked Count Dracula last night and Lord Montymort this afternoon.

      • So do I have time to beat him two more times?

And I don’t understand how there is a difference in freemium and premium on this. Are people speeding it up with donuts? That’s a huge waste if it can be done for free.

        • Ok, I see now. It’s the characters sent on tasks. Well I have two, wizard Martin and Wiggops. Guess that’s better than nothing. I still don’t know if it will be enough.

          • Sorry for so many comments. But I looked, I’m wrong I only have Wiggops

I was confused and have magic act Milhouse but he isn’t premium apparently so guess I’m screwed.

            • No, it’s still quite mathematically possible. You just have to be a q4h player that logs in T least 4, ideally 5, times a days (for example 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm). Take advantage of the free 10%. After 3 hours and 36 minutes, go back to the game and rush the last 24 minutes of Lord Montymort for free. I did that every day and it allowed me to get an extra go at Lord Montymort each day, so I battled him 5 times instead of 4 times everyday and still got 8 hours of sleep a day and still unlocked him yesterday afternoon. You still have some wiggle room. And having Wiggops will help too.

        • Premium players buy the premium wizards. I have four of them.

      • I have unlocked Count Dracula, bat he disappeared in my inventory and is AWOL. Search my inventory high and low. Did a hard sync by visiting Krustyland and even did a uninstall, reboot and and install.
        CD sill is AWOL 😡

        • That is really odd. I had the option to Place or a Store, and I chose Place and he was immediately in my Springfield. If not in your inventory, I he in your Town Census at City Hall?

        • Same problem here, no Dracula after unlock. Never even showed up in inventory and there was not notice of him being unlocked.

          • I got Dracula…but am still trying to get the Cooling Tower Skins…they are NOT anywhere in inventory…and don’t show up as a skin on the towers. So…yes…apparently, EA has some bugs going on. Shut down your device…all of the…log back in and see if the little fanged flyer shows up.

        • I have had a similar Dracula problem. Finished Dracula but no Dracula. No announcement that I had finished. No Dracula in inventory or in the streets. Don’t know if it’s related to having finished Montymort at exactly the same time and Dracula got lost in the coding. Montymort’s defeat was announced.

  14. I have Witch Marge AND Wizard Marge, but both are useless. We have 5 characters to do the same task 150 times? This event is pretty bad. I’m mostly just making monorail pieces to get those donuts. Otherwise the monsters are pretty lame, and whatever Montymort is, I couldn’t care less.

  15. ugh. im on my 2nd round of trying to defeat montymort. then the beasts. when you spoke about Act 3 beasts >> is that all captured and enchanted beasts you have or Barfy > which was unlocked in the 3rd act?

  16. Help!! I’ve defeated him twice and it still says 0/3! Does anyone know if this is an EA glitch? Any solutions?

    • There are many of us with this problem. There was an update this morning, but it didn’t fix it. I hope that they fix it soon…and give us credit for what we’ve done. I’m grinding constantly at this and it would be a shame if we don’t receive something that we should have earned.

  17. The freemium players may not have enough time with their glitch. Hope it gets gixed soon.

  18. Is it better to finish Lord Montymort or Barfy first?

  19. I have the same problem as everyone else. I have beat him with the kids and beasts once completely and it still reads 0/3. I’m almost at the end of round 2. I’m going to be upset if it never updates! COME ON EA! GET IT TOGETHER!

    • Ok, I was seriously thinking this was just me but I’m in the exact same boat. I’m fixing to fully beat him for a second round and still says 0/3. Is there any information on for real what’s going on? Because if I miss this I’ll be upset for real.

  20. My game is working now… Finally I have 1/3. Don’t know if EA as fixed it… But it seems to be working. If I can’t finish Lord Montymort I’ll post again 😉

  21. l have contacted EA, sent them this link to see this issue at hand, was told to try again from the beginning to get 1/3 lol………….almost got 2nd round done so not impressed. Great support??!!!! Guess the LORD MONTYMORE is not going to be in my game…..;\

  22. Well l am completely frustrated, l have contacted EA and l am waiting for them to respond even thought it was a live chat. Up late dealing with this Lord Montymort. Part 1 -2 are completed. Part 3 l am not moving. 0/3. Characters do 15 hearts – completed. Giants 15 hearts completed. Monty sleeps 4hrs – completed. 0/3 defeated? Either l cant follow the walk-though after all these years of playing…… Am l missing something? There definitely is a problem with defeating this task. As l see l am not the only one with this issue. Long time player and not very impressed by the slow response so far. 8 days and 14 hrs left. Not sure if l want to spend another 36 hrs to defeat the 1st round over again just so it shows defeat 1/3!! Being that l have already completed the 2nd round of the 15 hearts with the characters and now l am on the giants of 8 hrs complete. And does EA even read this forum? As l did mention in my live chat l am not the only person having this issue. With so little time left and how time consuming this is , there definitely is a glitch which l am sure most of us our seeing : EA PLEASE FIX THIS!!!

  23. My lord montymort isn’t working it’s been stuck in a slumber for 3 days and I even tried uninstalling and re-installing and logging into another device and nothing worked. I won’t get that done I guess but it’s not fair I play everyday.

    • Yikes. That’s really odd that he didn’t wake up after the 4 hours. Definitely contact EA. As soon as the 4 hour slumber was up, you should have been able to resume sending characters to battle his 15 hearts.

    • Today EA closed my bug report about this issue and I got an in-game update that seems to have fix this for me… Should be working for you too after the update

  24. So I’ve submitted to EA bug report about being stuck without ways to progress in the event. And they just closed my issue without any response or comment. Just like that.
Last time I reported the problem, they didn’t solve anything, but at least they did it using Hollywood principle. This time they didn’t even bother.
    >:(

  25. Won’t knock myself out with this, to time consuming and very annoying, once I have the last prize am done with this event, monorail farming for Christmas, 380 donuts so far 👑👑👑

  26. I’m having the same issue 0/3 it still shows after sending kids in n giants for 15 hearts. I’m on my 2nd round of where kids are done n now on giants for 2nd round. Still shows 0/3? Am l doing something wrong or is this a major glitch?? Very frustrating to keep spending so much time n receive no credit. EA needs to fix this. 😡

    • That’s odd.

My characters defeated 4 hearts in part 1 and my beasts defeated 4 giant hearts in part 2. Part 3 than started and he was down for 4 hours while I showed 0/3. In Part 3, my characters defeated 15 hearts and my beasts defeated 15 giant hearts a first time. After these 30 hearts, he was down for 4 hours while I showed 1/3. Then again, my characters defeated 15 hearts and my beasts defeated 15 giant hearts a second time. After these 30 hearts, he is down for 4 hours while I show 2/3. In another hour, I’ll start sending my characters to defeat 15 hearts in part 3 for a third and final time. Once they finish their third time in part, I’ll send my beasts to defeat 15 giant hearts in part 3 for a third time and should have Lord Montymort by Monday.

      • Yes I’ve done all that n I’m still at 0/3. Part 1 I sent the kids in and giants in as well as part 2. Now on part 3 and I’ve completed 30 hearts n Monty did his 4 hr rest. So I’m still showing 0/3. Even though I’m on my 2nd round where the kids r done their 15 hearts. And my giants r on now. As they say, Monty will rest again for 4 hrs. Basically frustrated

        • Given how time consuming it is, I would definitely contact EA, as part 3 is quite time intensive, especially in the context of a time-limited 14 day event.

        • Same here. Gonna forward it to EA.

          • Yep. Have defeated him 4 times now. (Twice with 4 hearts, twice with 15). Still says 0/3. All 4 of my towns are the same. A frustrating end to a boring event. Classic EA.

            • “Defeating” means knocking off all 15 hearts with both wizards and then, again, with monsters. That counts as one round. The first round with 4 hearts doesn’t count for anything.

          • Yes. Defeated him (15 hearts) with beasts and kids and beasts and kids. Still at 0/3. Should be at least at 1/3. I understand the concept. I log in 4 times a day and I have several premium characters. Still 0/3.

  27. EA had better make a change, or else nobody is going to earn a playable Lord Montymort (without wasting lots of Donuts); because this “Battle for Springfield unlocking Lord Montymort” is impossible to finish on time with Freemium AND Premium Characters!

can you sense this Tappers frustration? 😬

    • I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. I should have him by this Monday, with over a week to spare. Premium players just need to tap for 5 days and freemium for 8 days in a 14 day period.

  28. So if I were to give in and use my bonuts to buy a premium monster, it would still take me 2 days to do that thingy and enchant them right?

    • Yes, you would have to Capture and Enchant the beast before you could use it to battle Lord Montymort.

      • I bought him because the 8+ days was not something I relished.
Not sure but I think before I started his quest, I tried to capture/enchant him but couldn’t find the screen option. Now that tab won’t let me switch between monsters.
Hopefully this isn’t a bug. The quwst runs its course in two hours. I’ll know then I guess.

  29. I haver the same problema: defeated Montymort for 3 Times andar it still says 0/3…

  30. I’ve defeated him once already and it still says 0/3. And I’ve already started attacking again. Anyone seeing this?

    • Just to confirm, as the article update states, you have already:
Defeated Normal Lord Montymort and his 4 hearts with your characters in Part 1.
Defeated Giant Lord Montymort and his 4 hearts with your beasts in Part 2.
Lord Montymort is defeated and needs 4 hours of healing now.
Defeated Normal Lord Montymort and his 15 hearts with your characters in Part 3.
Defeated Giant Lord Montymort and his 15 hearts with your beasts in Part 3.
Only after this should you see 1/3 defeats.

At this point are you still seeing 0/3? If so, you have to contact EA. But if you messaged prematurely, keep going.

After this, you again have to:
Defeat Normal Lord Montymort and his 15 hearts with your characters in Part 3.
Defeat Giant Lord Montymort and his 15 hearts with your beasts in Part 3.
Only after this should you see 2/3 defeats.
Lord Montymort is defeated and needs 4 hours of healing now.

After this, you again have to:
Defeat Normal Lord Montymort and his 15 hearts with your characters in Part 3.
Defeat Giant Lord Montymort and his 15 hearts with your beasts in Part 3.
Only after this should you see 3/3 defeats.
Lord Montymort will now be unlocked as a playable character for you, just as Slithers is a playable character.

      • Yeah I mean in Part 3 and the kids defeated him and now mostly through with the beasts and it still says 0/3. I’ll shoot EA a message. But I was curious if others saw it too (Common problem or just lucky me).

        • No, your game is working fine. As mentioned in the post and comments, it will say 0/3 for now until after the beasts defeat him too.
