Should You Buy Pixel Homer?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Spending actual cash on donuts for a character is back in TSTO.  This is something EA’s been rolling out over the last few years, and it’s a new bonus for actually spending cash on donuts. (instead of just farming them)  Where they attach a premium, limited-time, character to one of the donut bundles sometimes in addition to bonus donuts.

And I want to be perfectly clear…you do not need to buy these characters to complete an event.  You can still play this game, and complete all the tasks and prizes, 100% free.  These cash-for-character items are a new type of premium currency…because donuts have been so devalued with donut farming.

This time around we’re being offered Pixel Homer,  a premium character, for a tray of 132 Donuts ($9.99 in the US) bonus this time around.  While it’s hard for me to sit here and tell you if you should or shouldn’t spend actual cash on the game (spoiler, I think you should always spend at least a small amount…even if it’s $.99/year on the game if it brings you joy and you want to see it continue) I thought I’d do a quick breakdown of Pixel Homer, tasks, questline and other details you may be curious about.

So let’s consider this an abbreviated Should I Buy….

So what is the deal?  When you can find it in the Currency Tab of your Store (also by hitting Get More)…

Basically, spend $9.99 on a Tray of 132 donuts and you get the Pixel Homer character.

And yes, for those outside of the US I know my price is probably lower than yours.  EA only charges 9.99 USD for this package…anything over that that you are currently paying goes to Google/Apple/Amazon for Tax and Duty etc.  EA only collects the 9.99.

And again, I’m glad EA went back to the $9.99 price point for these, and happy it’s a full character.

So here’s a breakdown on Pixel Homer…

-Full character
-Comes with a complete set of tasks
-Comes with a questline
-Some really fun visual/animated tasks
-From “Treehouse of Horror XXXI” S32, E4

Here’s a look at the task list

Pixel Homer’s Permanent Tasks…

Task Length Earns Location
Get Stuck on Game Over Screen 1hr $105, 26xp Simpsons Home
Look for Hidden Blocks 4hrs $260, 70xp Outside/Visual

And here’s the full dialogue version of the questline:

Man of Few Words Pt. 1
Pixel Homer starts

Bart: Dad?
Pixel Homer: It’s a-me. Homer!
Bart: Oh, my gosh. I always dreamed of having a dad made of pixels. This is so cool.
Pixel Homer: Woohoo!
Bart: So what should we do? Go jump on floating platforms, or maybe eat mushrooms so we can get big?
Pixel Homer: Back, evil-doer!
Bart: Okay, okay. No mushrooms. I get it.
Pixel Homer: Well done, player!
Bart: Oh thanks, Dad. I do kinda think of myself as a bit of a player.
Pixel Homer: It’s a-me. Homer!
Bart: Wait. Are those the only lines they recorded for you?
Make Bart Test Pixel Homer’s Responses- 4hrs
Make Pixel Homer Scream “Woohoo!” Repeatedly-4hrs
Bart: So do you have any other lines you can say?
Pixel Homer: Yes.
Bart: Oh, good. Wait, do you mean yes you have other lines, or do you mean that “Yes” is your other line?
Pixel Homer: Yes.
Bart: *sigh*

Man of Few Words Pt. 2
Pixel Homer starts

Bart: Alright, despite the fact that you’re extremely verbally challenged, I still want to go show you to my friends.
Pixel Homer: *jumps into the air* Woohoo!
Bart: Woah! You hit something invisible up there! And gold coins are coming out!
Pixel Homer: Yes.
Bart: Okay. I would’ve expected a more excited response than that, but in your case I can understand the limitations.
Pixel Homer: Woohoo!
Bart: Right. Like that.
Make Pixel Homer Look for Hidden Blocks- 4hrs
Make Bart Collect the Coins-4hrs
Bart: Oh, man. This is great. We’re gonna be rich.
Pixel Homer: Well done, player!
Bart: Make sure to get all the hidden blocks in this area. Don’t wanna risk being slightly less rich if we can avoid it. No, not there. That’s a cliff!
Pixel Homer: *jumps and falls off cliff* It’s a-me. Homer!

Man of Few Words Pt. 3
Pixel Homer starts

Pixel Homer: It’s a-me. Homer!
Bart: Woah, you’re alive! After falling off a cliff!
Pixel Homer: Yes.
Bart: Oh, I get it. You’re a video game character so you have infinite lives. So I can just kill you over and over and it’ll be hilarious instead of a crime.
Pixel Homer: Back, evil-doer!
Make Bart Kill Pixel Homer- 8hrs
Make Pixel Homer Revive-8hrs
Marge: Bart, stop killing your father.
Bart: He has infinite lives. He’s a video game character.
Marge: So are you!
Bart: I am not! Oh wait, yes I am.

Man of Few Words Pt. 4
Pixel Homer starts

Bart: Okay, now I know what you’re thinking, and I’m gonna need you to stop thinking that right this second.
Pixel Homer: Woohoo!
Bart: You can’t kill me, Homer. We don’t know what would happen.
Pixel Homer: Woohoo!
Bart: Okay, you keep saying “Woohoo”, but I really feel like your eyes are saying something else.
Pixel Homer: Woohoo!
Bart: Sure I may be a video game character, but this has never been tested before. I may not come back!
Pixel Homer: Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Bart: Back, evil doer!
Make Bart Run for It- 4hrs
Make Pixel Homer Chase Bart-4hrs
Marge: Homer, stop trying to kill your son!
Pixel Homer: Back, evil-doer!
Marge: Excuse me?
Pixel Homer: I’m so sorry, Marge. I shouldn’t have said that.
Bart: Wait, you can say other stuff?
Pixel Homer: Yes.
Bart: … Such as?
Pixel Homer: It’s a-me. Homer!
Bart: Right. Got it.

That’s pretty much it on Pixel Homer. Actually a pretty fun character, one of the better cash-for-character items I’ve seen in recent memory.  I’ll very likely be picking him up today.

What are your thoughts on Pixel Homer?  Have you made the purchase?  Will you be making the purchase? Thoughts on the questline and tasks?  Sound off below you know we love hearing from you!

  1. I bought him. Seems like a unique character even for Homer, and I have not spent in a while. I am a donut farmer and while I have a budget, I agree about giving SOME money.

  2. This is the first of these I’ve bought. I love the 16 bit pixelated characters in Mario Kart Tour so I had to

  3. Alissa, if I make a collage out of 4 photos, 1for each act, would it be counted as 1 or 4 for the show off, thinking ahead lol

  4. No Land Expansion? No 💵 EA!

    • EA could offer a land expansion for money, Springfield heights expansion plus donuts, ??? Why not EA

      • If EA wants to sell the Land Expansion for $3 – $5 ? I’d pay, but that’s the last time they will ever get real 💵 from me. 😉

They have got to know we are running out of space, this Game App is closing in on 10 years (it’s been 4 years? since we ported Krustyland over and got a land expansion – without including Springfield Heights). 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • So…
You’re advocating EA to propose REAL cash for more land tiles?!

      • Yes, real money

        • Not that I’d be into it, but there could be a lot of players seeing such a tactic as a better investment in the game.

          • Is a choice Uncle, like buying pixel homer, if it’s what you want for the game then addicts will buy, personally if Springfield heights came up to buy with a character or donuts I would buy it if the price was right just to even things up on my game 🔲

  5. I picked him up. It’s a fun character, the right price point, and I’m happy to support the game I enjoy.
