Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!
It’s that time of the week again, time for the Addicts Weekly Open Thread! So, let’s get the conversation going! Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long. This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!
Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING. Just no Add me requests…those should go here. We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons or current Tapped Out event) but for the most part, you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.
So, here is your Open Thread…..
Not much you may have missed this week around the Addicts Site. Oh, except:
So chat about the Simpsons, TSTO, end of the game, or anything else you can think of! (Just no politics, it never ends well) Can’t wait to chat with you all, you know we love hearing from you!
Have Fun! And happy Sunday!

Got lucky in regards to my phone was dying and my partner was able to transfer everything and re install the game on new phone so I get to enjoy the remaining time with TSTO and it being waaayyyy less laggy.
For anyone looking for a cathartic ending I recommend playing through the ps3 and or ps2 game again. I felt better after completing it after many years.
Hello everyone!
Today I almost finished working on the full image of my Springfield. It was not easy )))
In total, I made 600 screenshots.
I collected these pictures in Photoshop in layers.
The file size was 4 GB, and when opened in Photoshop it was 19 GB! It’s good that I have 270 gigabytes of RAM and my computer allowed me to do such work.
The final image size was 4.3 x 2.3 meters at 300 DPI. In JPEG format with minimal compression, the file size is 730 MB.
The work took about 3 days because I had to spend a lot of time finalizing various things.
Springfield is a very dynamic city – characters move along the streets, lights in the windows blink, various objects move, smoke comes out and much more.
On different screenshots these elements did not match and I had to take additional pictures to correct the discrepancies at the frame boundaries.
In the end, everything worked out and my city will not disappear forever.
I doubt I will print it out, although who knows!? )
In any case, I do not regret the time spent, it was worth it – the memory of a fun multi-year adventure will remain.
Wow – I’m exhausted (and a bit jealous) just reading about what you did! Maybe you should get the finished image made into something, like a jigsaw puzzle (which I’ve seen talk of others here doing)? Seems like a shame to put that much work in and not produce something physical from it….
That’s a great idea… I’d missed that suggestion. The thing is, I’m afraid it’d be huge if it was at all legible. Vladislav said his was 4.3 x 2.3 meters, which is about 14 feet by 7.5 feet!!! Even at half size, that’s a 7’ x 3.75’ puzzle! Maybe 1/3 size, 4’8” x 2’6”????
😮 Didn’t quite realize the scale you were working with!
Were you doing this on an iOS device (iPad or iPhone)? If so, that’s my setup, and I may have some questions on your workflow. Each of my screen shots reports a visual size of 37.94″ by 28.44″!!!! I’m assuming you scaled your screen shots down before assembling them. I was looking at 10%, or about 4″ by 3″, which still makes a huge overall map, but manageable. Did you scale down the screenshots, and by how much?
I’m working with a decent graphic editor (Acorn), but it’s probably not as powerful as Photoshop.
Thanks for any help you can give!
I have a 6th generation iPad.
The screen shot size is 2048 x 1536 px, 72 dpi
(28.444 x 21.333 inches, 72 dpi)
If you resample the image at 300 dpi, you get a single frame size of 6.827 x 5.12 inches or 17.34 x 13 cm.
Before taking screenshots of the city, I scaled the image down to the smallest scale possible so that as many objects as possible would fit in the frame.
I’ve been playing for 10 years and my city is very large, so the full image came out so huge. I didn’t realize it was going to be this big until I completed the full image.
The puzzle idea is really great! But I don’t think it would be possible to do the whole city. Maybe some part of the city, the most beautiful ))))
I did not reduce the scale of the images. I collected 100% size screenshots. When opened in Photoshop, the file in layers took up 19 GB. During the work, Photoshop sometimes used about 230 GB of RAM!!! I have 272 GB of RAM installed, so I was able to make such a huge file in layers.
Wow. I completely missed (or misunderstood) the step of resampling from 72dpi to 300dpi. That clearly makes the images about 1/4 the physical size in inches without reducing the clarity. D’oh! Let me try that….
Update: I tried and got it working, but my MacBook got really sluggish with the bigger files with too many layers. So I had to flatten the image periodically, and later found that there were so many messed-up connections I couldn’t stand it. So I gave up, and did a screen recording of a complete tour of the town, plus a screen recording of a monorail circuit. Sigh.
Do you think it’s possible to compile a list of items in Taps that can spawn a quest?
Hey Safi….”knock, knock”…
Everyone else…behold the modern day Sodom…but where is Gomorrah? I’m sure we’ll all see soon. I wonder how much toxic chemicals are being released from burning rooftop solar panels…ugh…stinky!
I love everyone…but especially my cat…she has made a full recovery ..she is the best cat in the world…wanna fight about it?
As the sun comes up over Santa Monica boulevard….wait…isn’t there supposed to be a sun ? Pu…stinky
😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂
I’ve never blown up my Springfield because the menus for building are SO ANNOYING. The fact you have to scroll through line by line to see what you have, and nothing is really in order (I guess they are grouped together and THEN alphabetical, which is annoying).
So, I’ve never had the urge to blow up and rebuild. But…i think near the end I WILL blow it up! To smithereeens!!
Since the announcement I went on a buying spree and bought all the things I wanted to complete (mostly from the Superhero and Halloween events). Bought some characters I always wanted. Did a bunch of the tasks even! Heck, I even spent DONUTS on speeding up tasks!! 😀 (which I’ve RARELY done, only in emergencies when say an event was JUST about to end, lol).
Sigh.
I will miss my Springfield. I can’t believe I’ve been playing this game pretty steadily for 10+ years. When they released all the free content over five batches, it really was a trip down memory lane. I remember ALL the events since I started (which I think was only a few months after it was launched!).
Sad, but inevitable I guess.
Im going to so miss this game
I didn’t play much during December. Alissa’s post about the town show offs gave me the kick to finish sorting out the last clump of buildings in my town.
I have finally placed all the buildings that have languished in my inventory, and as a bonus I have a bunch of quests to finish over the last couple of weeks. Still have an extra Squeeky Voiced Teen trapped in my inventory from a mystery box a few years ago along with a bunch of extra decorations.
I would have liked to nuke the town and done a complete redesign, but worried that I wouldn’t have finished before the end. But I’m happy with what I have built, I really will miss this game when it’s gone.
Has anyone tried the Sims franchise? I got a day in and deleted it, but that’s twice now so maybe it’s growing on me. Or do you have a town building suggestion? I still play TSTO every couple of days, for some silly reason. I need to decide if I’m replacing it or just giving up entirely
Many, many years ago, I played the PC version of The SIms (a couple of different incarnations of it) and enjoyed it a lot. But I’ve been Leary of picking up the mobile game, as I’m afraid it would end up being a huge time sink, and I already have enough of that. These games that require a real time commitment are detrimental to me, which is why I gave up Farmville many years ago. I’m better off playing things that don’t absolutely require one spending a sufficient amount of time in them daily just to maintain them.
Characters/collections I didn’t got:
From helpful guest stars, the one with the accordion
From founders: both characters
From tree house of horror xxviii pests: both characters
From mirror mayhem: mirror disco Stu
No more characters to get even with donuts
No more task left
That’s all for me
After spending the last two months of redesigning my Springfield, I finally uninstalled TSTO this morning. Last night, I spent hours taking screenshots of my town (over 1000 pictures!) and almost burned out. Wanted to capture every part of the town. Instead of sending all my characters on their 24 HR tasks (which is what I did when I originally uninstalled the game over 4 years ago), I decided for each character’s last task, I sent them on an animated task (if they had one) except for most of the clone characters (most of whom should had been alternate skins for certain characters instead IMO), which were sent on an non-animated task instead.
That private server mentioned below is way too risky using an EA account and feels like a scam. How does a recompilation of a mobile app work if the source code is accessible? Can these fans working on a private server actually succeed? And there’s the big issue over legal trademarks and copyrights with either EA or Disney/20th Century forcing the server to shut down. I can’t imagine a user porting his or her town while being at risk of getting their EA account banned if they use other EA games/apps. If I was still playing regularly, I’d avoid it. Also, if the server were to start up, the player would have to begin from scratch.
If this server is to be successful (I doubt it), could fans add or tweak features or gameplay mechanics not currently on Tapped Out?
– Creating major events akin the some of the earlier events instead a typical 4-hour grindfest seen in the past 6-7 years?
– Adding voice clips to all the characters NOT voiced by the main 6 voice actors? (i.e. Milhouse, Sideshow Bob, etc.) Since the main 3 male actors voice far more characters than the main 3 female actresses, you’d think the Springfield had an overwhelmingly male over female population ratio with the sound on.
– Adding new menu features or overhauling existing menu features. For example, adding an A-Z search/browse option when finding a specific character, decoration, building, etc.
– New characters added (there’s still many Simpsons characters not in the game). Also, additional character skins (Maude still needed her human form)
– Merge certain characters (i.e. why is Hot Flash a separate character when she should be an alternate skin for Alice Glick).
– Extremely unlikely, but a day/night cycle with certain buildings and decorations lighting up during night. Also, a weather cycle during a specific month (rain during spring/summer/fall, snow during winter)
All of that is a pipe dream and we should all be grateful for what TSTO, despite its imperfections, gave us during its decade plus existence. While I’m still saddened by this game’s impeding demise, I am relieved that I do have some storage space now as this app took a large amount of space. No franchise-based city-building mobile game has the same appeal that TSTO had. Again, I want to thank the TSTO Addicts crew for this blog and it was very helpful in how I approached this game.
Goodbye and good luck to all.
I am going to find each characters longest thing to do and leave them to it if the makers bring out another Simpsons game I will play only the free parts of they are any. I will not be spending any more cash on the Simpsons. It would be nice to be able to go back maybe in a year or two to our towns and see what the characters are doing, maybe Homer will lose some weight lol
I don’t know if anyone else here has heard, but there seems to be developers working on a private server to allow players to play Tapped Out past January 2025.
Oh please, let it be so!
Did the number of unpublished attempts not clue you in to the fact that it is not a legitimate solution ?!?
Read the rules … https://tstoaddicts.com/about/addicts-guidlines/
It’s a hack attempt that does not belong on here.
The genuine game will only use the genuine servers, and they will shut down soon..
Look up Tapped Out private server in a search engine if you want to know more, but in your defense, I don’t know how exactly the system will work out, so if you don’t want anything to do with it, I won’t force you. Just it seemed to be a small glimmer of hope.
Where did you hear this?
It’s been in development since the announcement.
Numerous mentions attempted and deleted here, but one slipped through.
It is not official with the TSTO Devs / EA / Disney / Simpsons creators
My bad.
Anyone else having issues where the game re-downloads about once every other day? (Reminiscent of a bug from a few months back).
Curious to what these downloads I keep hearing about, what’s being downloaded?
Check to see what you have for free space on your phone or other device.. you need at least 6gig free … otherwise it will keep re-downloading the app. This is a problem from years ago and still exists today.
I had this issue.. and once I kept my phone with 6gig or more free space.. it no longer re-downloaded.
Ah, that could very well be the case, thanks for the tip!
WilsonCPU here, wishing all my friends and neighbors well, as we slide closer to the final tap.
It’s been an interesting and fun ride. This is the only town-building game I’ve played for any time at all, and it’s been a privilege.
And my tagging friends, fair warning! I’ll be trying for as many four-peats (El Quattros) as possible before the final Last Call at Moe’s!
