Thank you for all you did. It has been a pleasure and an honour to drop in and listen to you and your friends. All the best for our future.
A Canadian, signing off…
All this time I thought it was shutting down at midnight ON the 24th due to the constant reminder of how it’ll be “unable to connect to the server AFTER January 24th, 2025.” I didn’t say ON the 24th . . . ugh. Oh well, at least I managed to get a screenshot of my town the other day; just missing the physical therapy center and a small handful of other businesses.
Well that was tense. I decided after the announcement that it felt pointless to carry on playing so my town was left ‘unfinished’. Then today I thought no, after 12 years I don’t want to leave it like that. Last photo 3 minutes before the end of my completed town! Yes there are a couple of random lakes but I was running out of time haha. Felt so fun to spend hours playing today despite it being bittersweet! Thanks for this blog and for the memories 🙂
If there’s one constant in my 55 years of life, it’s been waiting til the smallest possible time-frame to do any damn thing, and therefore I sadly only got a portion of my town screenshot, with a giant mess of clumped, roadless buildings off in the grasslands I had planned to have fun plotting out. Did some short screencap videos on top, but nothing like what I had planned. Maybe I’ll photoshop all the loose stuff into place later. I did get to put multiples of all the “crowd” pieces (Flanders’, Unruly, Cheering, Seasonal Workers etc) mixed up together in a huge gathering in front of the rock, pop and rap stages with riot-police on the outsides, then plopped the Zombie Sandwich bin in the middle of it all for a short ‘film’, tho’.
I only started the game in Feb 2018, so I was missing a lot of content until recently, and had to wonder about things in neighbors’ towns that I have no context for (that Soylent Red factory with the big lobster?). In my downtime from the game, I’ve been going through the archives of TSTO Addicts from the beginning and found this relevant post from Wookie on Nov. 30 2013 that ponders when the game will end, even if only a few paragraphs – https://tstoaddicts.com/2013/11/30/is-it-the-game-that-will-never-end-will-it-go-on-and-on-my-friends/#more-7663 . Got to say, I enjoy going through all the old posts from before I joined in the game.
Really upset with myself that I didn’t finish my town. It was about 75% done. Got a large screen grab of the town but didn’t get the all the screenshots before the server went dark. Should’ve focused more on the newer stuff than trying to get it all in. And not enough time to make a recording. Nothing I can do about it now. The grainy, large one will have to do. I only have myself to blame for not managing the time better to finish it all.
Goodbye and thanks for all the……..donuts.
I can’t believe after 12 years TSTO is ending 😭. This has been my most consistent app/game that I’ve played religiously and has seen life on four different iPhones. I didn’t think this day would actually come, an end of an era for sure, what will I do now? Big THANKS to the TSTO Addicts site for building a great community and always helping me with tips and advice for getting through the events. I’m glad to hear this site will live on for TSTO archives. Thanks again for a decade+ of fun and gaming! 💖
R.I.P. TSTO 2012-2025
As Dr. Seuss said “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
That’s a wonderful and very apropos statement, but not penned by Dr. Seuss (common misconception). https://atkinsbookshelf.wordpress.com/2023/01/27/famous-misquotations-dont-cry-because-its-over-smile-because-it-happened/
Not sure what I’ll do with myself
To Denisech1969: thank you for your consistent visits all these years. It put a smile on my face every time I saw your name float up my screen.
