Where Did THAT Come From – Dr. Colossus

I gotta say that I am loving the heck out of this Super Event. Vigilantes, Superheroes, Supervillains, bad guys to tap Batman-style, Spiderpig… so much fun. Of course, with lots of new items comes my task to let you know just WHERE all the stuff comes from. For this super where did THAT come from, we’ll take a look at Dr. Colossus.

Of all the evil Springfield super villains to join our towns for a superhero event, it had to be Dr. Colossus. One of those bit characters from the Best. Show. Ever. that just makes you laugh even if he’s just a blip on the cartoon’s radar. Of course, not everyone may be familiar with the doc so I figured I’d show ya his appearances. First up, “Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy” (S5:E14).

When Lisa goes to find Stacy Lovell, creator of Malibu Stacy, to let her know how sexist her dolls have become, she finds Ms. Lovell living in her own version of the Malibu Stacey Dreamhouse. She fell away from the company in 1974 after funneling profits to the Vietcong. 30 years of living Stacey’s lifestyle taught her some harsh lessons. She’s been divorced 5 times. Who were the beaus? Kent, Johnny, Joe, Dr. Colossus and Steve Austin.

But being married to an ultra-rich doll designer isn’t where most fans know the doc from. The episode most folks think of is “Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part 2)” (S7:E1). When Smithers is confessing to killing Mr. Burns, he describes Mr. Burns attempt to steal the sunlight as crossing the line “between every day villainy to cartoonish super villainy.” Enter Dr. Colossus who’s behind bars in Springfield Police Station.

Dr. Colossus

“Bah! He’s a rank amateur compared to Doctor Colossus!’

Gotta love the doc activating his Colosso-Boots and whacking his noggin on the cell’s ceiling.

Dr. Colossus 2

This whole episode is good (Part 1 also) but this post isn’t about Maggie shooting Burns, it’s about our newest Super Villain. Dr. Colossus is released when Sideshow Mel presents evidence to release an innocent man. Of course incompetent Wiggum thinks he means the doc but at least he tells Dr. Colossus to stay away from Death Mountain even if all his stuff is there. (NOTE: That’s the only reference to the Doc’s lair in the show.)

Dr. Colossus is one of those bit characters that fans of the show really love. He can be seen in “22 Short Films About Springfield” (S7:E21). He’s one of the many town characters who come to help Lisa get gum out of her hair. He doesn’t say anything but I’m sure his plan was evil.

Dr. Colossus 4

While not technically a Simpsons episode, Dr. Colossus is also one of the many criminals who show up to Homer and Peter’s stolen car wash in “The Simpsons Guy”.

Some of my buddies inform me the doc also features in the comics but as I don”t own many, feel free to chime in below with any info from those you might know. So that’s your origin for Dr. Colossus. What do you think of him? Happy that he’s lurking evilly in your town? Wish it was another villain? I’m partial to him and happy to have him around Wookieetown. Y’all stay classy (not the Mrs. Muntz kind either) and take care.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  3. Ok, it says the 60m thing on his, has to be done wit quest, what quest? It doesnt make him do one…

  4. Dr. Colossus – I guess Tappers need to earn his lair to get the most out orchim (a bummer this isn’t a Ride for Krustyland) ….

  5. When an update is out, you write a ton of posts within the hour.
Sam Simon dies and you write nothing.
This is no less than appalling. For shame.

    • WOW!!! Seriously?! Could you be any more cold and rude? I am just SO SORRY that I felt the death of a man Such as Sam deserves a bit more time and effort put into his entire life than to just toss together some random post and shove it down the throats of everyone to “get it out there”. Gee, how mean of me to want to put a little more thought, time, effort, and respect into a post for the man and his work. How for shame on me to not type out a one sentence phrase to be scattered in the mass amounts of millions of OTHERS out there to be lost. How DARE I try and show a lil more courtesy and respect for someone. How DARE I give his life’s work a lil more thought then “they died” and give his life the post it would deserve. Yah… wow… yah got me there. Now… how about going to troll somewhere else and showing those on this site a lil more respect. 😉

      • FWIW, I don’t think it would have been disrespectful to Mr. Simon’s memory or discourteous if you had added a simple “RIP Sam Simon 1955-2015” at the end of a post. It’s like asking for a moment of silence during a party. Nobody expects a speech then (there will be a time for that later), but a brief mention and acknowledgement of a loss is appropriate.

        • I get that but to call shame on someone was uncalled for. Everyone has their way of grieving. Everyone has their way of showing respect. To put a person down for wanting to do something different is just outright bullying.

  6. Totally off topic…Rest in Peace Sam Simon. Thank you for co-creating the Simpsons. The greatest animated series ever! Thank you for your generosity and always looking out for our four legged family members.

  7. I used to read a lot of the Simpson’s comics when I was younger and that’s where I’ve really grown to love the guy. My favorite was a short backup featuring him where no one considered him a threat and characters like Chief Wiggum just felt bad for him. He kept trying to prove that he was a threat. I don’t really remember how it ended, looks like I’m going to hace to go dig up those old comics! ah nostalgia

  8. Sam Simon died R.I.P… He help create the Simpsons

  9. I love simpsons comics and have read almost every one.
And yes he does appear repeatedly

  10. Sam simon co creator of the simpsons has died age 59 R.I.P

  11. Anyone else hoping one of the hidden prizes in the last issue is the Human Fly?

    • TheWackyWombat

I’m expecting radioactive man as one of them, the storyline definitely has the whole rebirth of a superhero vibe. Not sure about the other unlocks though, perhaps there could be multiple character unlocks.

  12. If I got to choose which fancy boot wearing supervillian I’d rather see walking about in my Springfield, it would be Charcoal Briquette, heels down!

    😀

  13. Hey bunny, have you noticed that your donut trick no longer works, or is it just my game? Either way, it was great while it lasted.

  14. AHHH spoiler! Death Mountain is not fully released yet

… but looking forward for this 😀

  15. There are Simpsons comics? I never knew all this while, heading down to the library tomorrow.

    • There are hundreds of Simpsons comics. Just go to comics.org and search for Bongo under publishers. Matt Groening’s little labour of love.

I have almost all of them and they are great, quite often better than the show.

Your library may have some trade paperback collections but they won’t have even close to everything. Try your local comic shop (you can use the CSLS to find one near you) or comic conventions to find the single issues.
