Where Did THAT Come From – Cowboy Homer

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

Howdy and Yeehaw Cowboy and Cowgirleenos! How in tarnation are y’all doing? Liking the 2016 TSTO Wild West Event? It’s Act One in the darn-tootin’ new event and with every new imagining by the designers comes new items. This of course means the wild gang here at Addicts get’s to dive into the Best. Show. Ever. and find them like the outlaws they are. For this post, I checked out the wanted posters and decided to ride down the origins for Cowboy Homer… the fifth Act One prize.  But when did Homer dress up like a cowboy? What does this have to do with the Wild West? Let’s check out the Best. Show. Ever., shall we?

“The Way We Was” (S2:E12) – No surprise Homer would end up dressed as a Cowboy. Way back in this episode we should remember him singing “Some people call me the space cowboy” by The Steve Miller Band. I wasn’t surprised when I read on the interwebs that most people think Cowboy Homer comes from “Colonel Homer” (S3:E20). You can check out our origin post about Lurleen Lumpkin for more on this possibility. Homer’s outfit in this episode has always been one of my faves but I don’t think this hits the mark.

Colonel Homer

Homer seems to be a fan of cowboy hats so I figured I’d go through some other appearances to see if we could find something closer to this new skin. Do you remember Homer saying, “Now where’s my giant foam cowboy hat and airhorn?” in “Whacking Day” (S4:E20)?

Not the skin but fun. Homer also dons a cowboy hat in “Homer the Vigilante” (S5:E11) when he’s dreaming about riding a nuclear missile a la “Dr. Strangelove.” One of my favorites though is Homer spying on Apu utilizing the original GoPro in “Homer and Apu” (S5:E13). Technically an “oversized novelty hat” according to Brockman but I love it.

The whole family donned some western garb in “Dude, Where’s My Ranch” (S14:E18). Nothing like a Christmas episode startling with carols progressing to an anti-Flanders song that later heads to a dude ranch to put you in the Wild West spirit.

There’s a few different outfits… and Beavers!

My favorite is Homer picking a pink shirt for what I hope are obvious reasons involving a bald, crazy guy and a monkey. But enough moseying around various episodes and rambling by yours truly. IMHO, the origin for this costume comes from “The Lastest Gun in the West” (S13:E12). We can clearly see Homer wearing the same bolo tie that he’s now sporting in TSTO.

Buck McCoy and Homer in a Cowboy Hat and Bolo Tie

It makes sense since Buck McCoy was offered in this event also. The designers often pull from the same episode. It could also just be an original idea inspired by other things too though since the hat color is off  Maybe an amalgamation of different appearances.  Frankly I just enjoyed watching a bunch of episodes and pretending it was all for the site lol.  Anywho… that’s really about it for this ramble about Homer wearing cowboy garb. Short of mentioning how Homer announces he’s a Dallas Cowboy fan in “Bart vs. Thanksgiving” (S2:E7), I think I’m done. Got a favorite Homer in a cowboy hat moment I didn’t mention? What’d you think of the prize? Liking the event so far? Sound off and see ya later cowpokes.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. My son came close to getting cowboy Homer in his game. Act one offers it to him for 35 donuts. He’s got 13, so might get 35 before the end of the event. Do you think it’s worth him spending the donuts or just save them for something else later on?

    • As I don’t see him really used… I’d wait. Regular Homer is too involved in earning event currency. If needed in Act 3, he’ll still be there for donuts in the tab. 🙂

  2. AzulPantalones

Just a shame he isn’t wearing his Chili Boots.

  3. I like cowboys. Watched many westerns as a kid and the only playmobil I bought are cowboys theme. I also got a horse drawn carriage I bought during a trip to Brussels. Playmobil seems big thing there, can be found at the airport.

  4. Good detective work, Mr. Wookiee. I’d say you’re spot on. EA seems to change tones of objects (or people) at their whim. Besides, Homer probably picked up a new hat when he got the vest. He loves cowboy hats, as you’ve noted. 🙂

  5. Wait a Cowpoke’n minute… I reckon this was very thorough. But I say, I say, I must glove slap’ya Sir for forget’n (S11 : E5) “E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt)” the Tamacco episode. *Placing thumbs behind a pair of suspenders* Now to be fair, Homer still doesn’t wear this EA skin outfit and Wookie might be drunk on whatever it is you drink on May 4th (Light/Dark Beer??) :p

I declare this was an honest mistake now. You may sit a spell on my porch anytime and spin a few more of these clever Simpson Antidotes 🙂

    *End Scene* :p

On the subject of Homer wearing cowboy hats, I was thinking of the “Homer Loves Flanders” episode (season 5 episode 16) where he wears the nacho hat, but upon reflection I guess it’s not really a cowboy hat. Still good though

  7. As much as I hate that man right now, you gotta love that suit.
