Where Did THAT Come From – Random Wild West items

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

Howdy and Yeehaw Cowboy and Cowgirleenos! How in tarnation are y’all doing? Liking the 2016 TSTO Wild West Event? SO far I’m feeling quite like Buffalo Bill and Doc Holliday in this darn-tootin’ new event. Might be that I have a tattoo of the hand of poker that was in Bill’s winning/ultimately losing hand but I digress. With every new event created by the designers comes new items. This of course means the wild gang here at Addicts gets to dive into the Best. Show. Ever. and find new critters like the outlaws they are. For this post, I checked out the wanted posters and found myself done with my bounty hunting mostly. All that was left was the dregs but I’m ever a diligent fuzzball. I decided to ride down the origins for a bunch of random items. Some are direct origins and others are just me rambling about inspirations. It’s always a pleasure to ride into the deserts of the Best. Show. Ever. Let’s see what varmints I found.

The first few are easy and appear in “Homer Simpson in: ‘Kidney Trouble’” (S10:E8). Bloodbath Gulch figured prominently in the sign and hitching post origin post and I saved a few for this randomness post. When our favorite family is heading to the Ghost Town, Lisa mentions the tumbleweeds. They “tumble at two, four, and six plus a midnight tumbling on weekends.”

The Trough and Barrel also showed up in this episode. There’s barrels all over the town actually. I love watching the Old Curly the Town Drunk, errr, Preacher fall into the trough during the mock gunfight in the Gulch.

While it’s not the Hitched Horse, Maggie looks cute on something similar. It even features in the same gunfight.  I sort of wish our hitched horse looked like this one instead.

No tumbleweed sightings in the Ghost Town but they’ve appeared elsewhere though. In “A Star is Burns” (S6:E18), one goes right past Homer, Patty, Jay Sherman, Selma, and Marge as they sit on the couch. It’s basically a gag to highlight that Homer is not as funny as Jay.

In “E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt)” (S11:E5), our favorite family hides away on the old family farm to avoid Homer having to duel a Southern Gentleman. He’s glove smacked the wrong fellar and afraid to actually duel someone, even Jimmy Carter. On the farm, life isn’t too great for them. They eventually grow deliciously addictive Tomacco but it’s tough times before that. At dinner, tumbleweed is the main course. Lisa declines the offer of more because she’s still working on her thistles.

Another appearance is in “A Tale of Two Springfields” (S12:E2). When Homer divides Springfield into two area codes with a trash wall, Homer isn’t the best of mayors and the family finds themselves the only residents of New Springfield. All the rats (aka citizens) have fled to New Springfield and now it is just the Simpsons and the tumbleweeds. Ok, just them, even the tumbleweed flees.

But what other items have shown up in the Wild West Event? I really liked the Quicksand pit. First thing I thought of was “Simpsons Tall Tales” (S12:E21). This whole episode has an American Frontier look to it.  In the Connie Appleseed segment, Lisa hears a voice in the wind that inspires her to plant apples as a renewable source of food. The joke is it was actually Moleman in quicksand asking for help.

While the premium decoration clearly isn’t Moleman, that’s what I think of. Homer also uses Quicksand in “Treehouse of Horror XIX” (S20:E4) to off George Clooney so we can pretend it’s him in our games if we want.

Speaking of Homer, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my favorite quicksand moment. While technically a sinkhole, it features prominently in The Simpsons Movie and the family escaping the dome and an angry mob.

There’s other things I searched all over for. I couldn’t find a stagecoach in my memory or through the interwebs other than Burns mentioning that Smithers has “the brainpan of a stagecoach tilter” in “Mother Simpson” (S7:E8) but I do have this image from the real Springfield in Hollywood.

If you look up “Simpson Livery” on Oogle, you can find cool pictures of the airplane that once flew with our favorite family painted on the side. Western Pacific airlines flew for a while before declaring bankruptcy but for a brief amazing moment in time, people actually flew within the bosom of this beautiful yellow aeroplane.

The last little moment from the Best. Show. Ever. that fulfills my quest for random items involves Grampa Simpson. His stories and flashbacks to what may or may not have happened in his past are some of my favorite moments. In “The Front” (S4:E19), Grampa has a dream about being the queen of the old west with a six shooter in his garter. “Boys, stop! You can both marry me.”

I only mention this because there’s a saloon and other Wild West buildings in the background and I wish this was an available skin for Grampa. So that about finishes up this random origin post.
