Gil’s New Deal and Should I Spend Donuts On Blinky Monster?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s Halloween in our pocket-size Springfields!  Yes that magical time of the year when our towns turn dark, our water becomes mucky and there are monsters everywhere to battle.  And not to be outdone…Ol’ Gil has returned to town peddling his latest deal.

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks as awesome as this because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Blinky Monster to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this three-eyed monster to your Springfield…

So you may have seen Ol’ Gil roaming around your Springfield on Friday (or today)…here’s what he’s offering up this time

Gil: Oh boy, have I got a great place for you.  It’s a fixer upper but honestly, aren’t we all? Which reminds me, my upper teeth need fixing.  The only downside of eating cardboard sandwiches.  If you buy it, that would be really swell.  Which reminds me, my leg is swelling.  I cut my socks off every night and sew’em on in the morning!  So…deal?

If you refuse

Gil: You don’t want it?  I already washed my hands for the handshake!  Those pay toilets aren’t cheap you know! I’m not throwing in the towel yet.  Partly ’cause I don’t own a towel.  I try myself off with Xmas wrapping paper – it’s half off in January!

If you accept

Gil: Woo-hoo!  I’ve finally unloaded that scary old place!  Gil closed a deal!  Which reminds me, I have a wound that won’t close.

And now let’s break it all down…

Gil’s Offer Ends November 1st….

Decoration/Building: Scary Dock
Character: Blinky Monster
Donut Price: 170 Dounts
Earns: Nothing. No bonus %/no income EA released a patch adding a 4.5% bonus to the dock
Size: 10×11
Conform-O-Meter:
 Vanity +200

Note: It appears as though EA must have read this post and realized the Dock didn’t come with a bonus % because they just released an update that adds a bonus % to the dock.  There’s now a 4.5% bonus associated with the dock.

Pros
-Comes with a questline
-Blinky will use the Scary dock
-Some hilarious visual tasks
-Blinky can be used in Giant Monster Battles

Cons
-Scary Dock does not earn a bonus% OR generate income
-WAY over priced for what it is/does

Final Thought
Premium
I know that there are a bunch of Premium players out there that love Characters…so no matter what I say you’re going to spend your donuts on this one..simply because it’s a character.
However, for the premium players out there that are more restrictive in what they buy..whether it’s a character or not..I’d pass on this one.  It’s WAY over priced for what it is/does.  And the added value for Monster Fights is unnecssary..as there are plenty of characters that can battle Monster already.

Freemium
Stay away.  Stay far, far away from this one.  It’s WAY over priced and adds zero value to Springfield.  Save the donuts for something else and skip Blinky…

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do.  And I can tell you as a premium player, I’m passing on this one. WAY overpriced for what it does.  And in the end, my donuts are more valuable to me than that. But whatever you decide just remember this will be leaving our games soon, so make your final decision before it leaves our games on November 1st..

And here’s a look at Blinky’s Tasks…

Please EA read the post about Crazy Igauna Lady’s foggy swamp and fix it too. It must have a bonus % too.

  2. The 4.5% bonus makes it much more worthwhile. I’m feeling better about my purchase now.

  3. I personally love it. Great look to the swamp and it’s just the right size for a change. Plus it’s a fun character. Now Gil, stay outta my town, I don’t have the doughnut reserve for another “deal”.

    • I have an angry mob on standby to drive Gill out of town. I have to keep Moe in check, because he beginning to stir up the mob.

      • That would be the ultimate job. Send Springfielders to drive Gil out of town. An animated task where they all chase Gil around town with torches and pitchforks

  4. I picked him up on Friday. I’ve got a long backlog of permanent characters that I want, but I can’t help myself with event characters. (Hoping for some Black Friday discounts on the permanent characters). I don’t like spending donuts on most buildings or decorations, but I love getting new characters. I put his swamp back next to my spooky forest where most of my other lakes and ponds are. I’ve been thinking about moving it though because both of his visual tasks take place in/around the swamp.
I was pleasantly surprised by the bonus increase today.

  5. I like that warning to freenium to stay far far away haha

  6. Stinks, this is one character I was looking forward to getting (hopefully in act 3). Thought act 3 prizes were gonna be the monster act (blinky, Ned, sideshow)

  7. Ever since I had to wait 3 years to fill the Lumpy-shaped hole in my character collection I can’t say no to anyone anymore. No more holes!

I still suspect there is a little OC inside me somewhere…

  8. I bought him immediately, and I love him so much that I didn’t even mind not getting a bonus or income (though it would have been nice to know ahead of time; wouldn’t have changed anything, mind you!)

His story’s a bit too short, but made me chuckle; poor guy should’ve stayed away from Moe’s!

  9. I am a freemium but broke rank and got it despite the price and lack of benefit. Mainly because I am obsessed with Halloween and this fit nicely in my haunted house section of town. The update that makes this a 4.5% bonus is an unexpected treat.

    • Okay, a 4.5% bonus added to this does change things substantially. Each 1% is equivalent to about 38 donuts, which is pretty much in the ballpark with other bonuses from certain things bought with donuts.

    • Same here, update downloaded and BAM Shauna is in store for 90 donuts. Then I just wanted to see my % bonus and it raised. Hm, hm what it can be I thought. Stored Scary Docks and in inventory it says 4,5% bonus, WOHOO! 🙂

  10. They just updated it so the Scary Dock has a 4.5% bonus.

  11. Is the character from a thoh episode of horror episode and I just can’t remember it or is this an EA creation like chester was but based on blinky the fish.

  12. I never log on to Tapped Out without coming to this site first! Thanks for the great advice Alissa, as always.

  13. I was definitely in the group that got this straight away purely because its a character plus in my opinion I found the questionline hilarious particularly the line about selma.

  14. Agree its a cool looking character and building but it’s overpriced. I got Crazy Cat Lady instead because it’s a better deal.

  15. Hi!
Maybe you know if the crushed UFO is going to return this year, because I had Kodos in the last year’s crafting and I’d been waiting a year to unlock her 24 task.

  16. I saw this in a neighbors town before the Gil deal was offered. I presume that neighbor must be hacking the game? I don’t condone hacking and don’t want any hackers on my friend list.

    • It might not be a hack, we had a similar issue in the last update where we were seeing Bart in a prize (the robot) before it was available. Not sure if this is the same when there is an item but you never know.

  17. I know this was over-priced. The scary dock does nothing (except the one task that Blinky has there). But I had a lot of doughnuts sitting around. So I got it. Normally I wouldn’t go for this kind of “deal”, but I figured: “what the heck”. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the character offered next year at a discount. Se la vie.

  18. Its a Swamp Monster…..overpriced and underproductive…but its a Swamp Monster….so Yes…

  19. Why, oh why didn’t I wait for the SIB…
I bought this ‘cuz it looked neat, and then when I found out that the swamp doesn’t even generate cash – just sucks up space – I started kicking myself in the kiester; and that’s physically impossible.

  20. How can you buy donuts with in game cash?

  21. I agree that it’s overpriced, but I had to have it. I’m kind of annoyed that they made it so the swamp from Crazy Iguana Lady almost but not quite matches up with the Scary Dock on one side.

  22. When I saw Gil pop into town the other day, I had my usual reaction. “Oh, here is Gil with another worthless offering.” Then I saw the offer, and my reaction went from indifference to disappointment.
I was hoping the blinky monster would be something we earned during the event. Especially after he’s pictured on the events’ splash screen as well as having dialogue in the quest line, but to find out the only way to get him is to shell out 170 donuts was a major let down and somewhat frustrating. Maybe if the offer included something cool, but another pond with another shack and some trees that doesn’t earn income or increase bonus%, Thanks EA!?

    • Yeah, I’m with you on that one. Werewolf Flanders better be available normally, or at least as a cheaper skin.

    • The very subtle animation sucks too, but I picked it up anyway because mentally I had heard that item came with Gravedigger Billy and I had the donuts saved already. I don’t regret it per se, but agree that it really should be a pass.

  23. I’m fully expecting them to re-release this next year at a discount. Maybe — and that’s a BIG maybe — I’ll consider buying it at that time. (Certainly not right now, at 170 donuts.)

  24. It was a lot of donuts and I do wish there was a bonus, but Blinky was too cool, I had to have him. I used the scary dock with the foggy swamp and put the covered bridge between them.

  25. Not a huge critique, but really wish this review had come out earlier. I got him (days ago), and agree, he’s a little lack luster, and I’m wishing I had my donuts back. I was especially disappointed that the Scary Dock doesn’t really do anything unless he goes swimming, and even that is basically nothing. *sigh* Oh well.

    • I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, “Gil’s Deals Are RARELY Worth the Donuts,” unless they involve a huge discount or rebate. So…in the future, don’t pull the donut trigger on something until you know what you are getting. I haven’t bought a Gil Deal…with real donuts…in months and months and months.

As far as how quickly Alissa schedules things to run…please remember, weekends are just that. We all need a little time off. Ya?

      • Agree 100% on the Addicts running this site any way they like, but for pure feedback’s sake, I prefer more timely SIB’s over almost all other content, except possibly turbo tapping (which I personally almost never use, but I’m sure many do) and calendars. WDTCF, episode reminders, etc. would be a lower priority for me. Even when things don’t help a lot in the event or maybe they do, but aren’t limited time, etc, when they come out, you want to enjoy them right away or any benefit from them if you are going to buy. Again, don’t flame me – not a complaint….simply my personal feedback. (especially given that some people seem to lose the Gil deals forever if they say no the first offer…not sure if user error or genuine issue…probably a mix)

        • I won’t flame anyone for their opinion…but, the WDTCF are usually written in batches…early, and are scheduled as such. The Gil Deals hit out of the blue. So, require more time and attention. Again…My rule of thumb, is that the Gil Deals are almost NEVER worth it, unless there is a deal discount or rebate. They are almost always the most overpriced items offered.

          • I kind of figured. Makes total sense. Too bad though – I seem to remember that Gil deals were awesome and those items never came back, so you really had to snap it up if you wanted it (I was 100% freemium back then so never got the really good ones).

    • I waited until seeing this to help me make up my mind, since I didn’t know about any bonuses, etc.

  26. I had an angry mob ready to drive out Gill again, but he offerde Blinky. I have disbanded the mob and purchased that thee-eyed fish monster. I love that fish 🐟.

  27. The outdoor visuals are pretty good and take place at the house which is also pretty cool looking. I picked it up and I don’t regret it. Mega Blinky is awesome. Although, there should be a visual job of Mega Blinky terrorizing the three eyed sushi stand.

  28. This is disappointing. I really want the character and was hoping for a decent bonus, but nothing! I want to cry. I guess I’ll look on the bright side, I still have donuts and there has to be something worthwhile around the corner.

  29. I’m surprised that the Scary Dock doesn’t generate revenue.

  30. Not even a % bonus or income from it? Jeez. As much as EA’s done some things that can be user friendly, or at least in making events reasonable to do everything within the time given, stuff like this makes me look the other way. I was thinking of getting it just to have the character, but for that many donuts I’d expect at least a % bonus of some kind. I know Gil deals are often overpriced, but by not spending donuts on this I hope it sends a small message that EA should at least make these things somewhat worth getting. A Vanity thing and a character doesn’t really cut it for 170 donuts.

    • I even didn’t look at the price. I just finished converting my game cash into a boatload of donuts 🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩

      • I try not to be negative on here like so many people, but just in case you didn’t know, I think your constant bragging about how much in game cash you have / how many donuts you can make is very annoying. I suspect I’m not the only one who feels this way.

      • Hey, I do that from time to time as well. That doesn’t mean this Gil Deal is a good one.

      • Hi Rudolph, to me, your comment or comments did NOT seem like bragging, I read it as you were celebrating and happy to have doughnuts. 🙂

I actually hadn’t noticed (your doughnut and cash talk) being a regular thing, if I ever see a comment that I don’t want to read, then I simply just skip by it.

Also, I like your avatar, it reminds me of Christmas time and the Rudolph Christmas song. 🙂
