Around the World 101: Crafting

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Ah the long awaited, Around the World Crafting post….where I give you the how tos and break down each and every item available to craft, so you don’t miss a thing!

Love it or hate it, EA has proven over the last couple of years that crafting is here to stay.  While the prizes themselves are pretty self explanatory, collect this to earn these prizes, crafting is a whole other “animal”.  Crafting requires some self direction.  You decide what you want and collect the items to craft accordingly.  Sometimes this is successful and sometimes it’s not. And, as with all things, for some events crafting is easier than others.

Now I know some of you still have questions about what to craft, if you should craft or Level Up, what happens in future Acts…so, as we’ve done in the past, we’re here to break it all down for you.  So let’s take a look at the basics of Crafting for the entire event.

2017-01-31-20-36-03

So I think EA has finally got a system down where crafting is pretty self explanatory.  So I’m not going to go into a long discourse about how to craft, what to do etc.  I’ll just give you a few basics…for clarity sake.

Crafting is triggered via the Rewards Center during the Act 1 questline…

rewardcenter_menu

Marge also has a task there to “Stock Town Maps” 2hrs, Earns $110, 27xp

Tapping the Rewards Center will bring you to the crafting menu.  You can also access the crafting menu via the event hub menu by clicking the trophy icon and then the cash register icon…

The Crafting Currency is Sky Credits, they look like this:

ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg

You can earn Crafting Currency from:
-Tapping Tourists
-Completing Daily Challenges
-Clearing Taps from Neighbors in your town (also helps with Osaka Flu Level
-Norbert’s Daily Challenges, after day 8 for each Act

Crafting consists of different levels.  Each level unlocks more items to craft.  You spend crafting currency to level up. And once again they’ve decided to stick with what’s worked in the most recent events, you do NOT have to choose between Leveling up and Crafting.  The Sky Credits you spend to Craft items will count towards the Sky Credits needed to Level up!

What does this mean?  Well basically if it costs 500 ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg to move up to the next level, and you want to craft Wine Barrels (which cost 150ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg each)..you don’t have to decide between Leveling up and Crafting.  Simply craft the Wine Barrels and 150 ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg will be deducted from the 500 ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg required to Level Up.

Similarly…you DO NOT HAVE TO CRAFT ITEMS TO LEVEL UP. You can level up by simply tapping the green button next to the level up bar.  2017-01-31-21-35-33

It still takes Sky Credits, but it prevents you from crafting a bunch of stuff you may not want in order to level up.  As some of you have been complaining…

So the choice is yours, you can level up as you craft items.  Or you can just level up without crafting items.

And as with previous events, crafting ends when the event is over.  So you have all 3 acts to craft.  There’s no rush to get it done now.  Personally, i’ve been stock piling my crafting currency to do one big crafting push at one time.  There’s no benefit to crafting early and there’s no benefit to crafting later. It’s your preference.

And finally, there are 20 total crafting levels.  You’ll start at Level 1 so you’ll need to level up 19 times (to reach level 20), on order to unlock all of the craftable items.  Here’s the breakdown of how many Sky Credits are required to reach each level and unlock new items:

Level to Reach Sky Credit Required To Reach
2 500ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
3 1,000ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
4 1,000ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
5 750ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
6 1,000ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
7 2,000ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
8 1,600ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
9 1,600ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
10 1,600ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg

13 1,600ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
14 2,000ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
15 1,600ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg

17 1,600ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
18 1,600ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
19 1,600ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg
20 1,600ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg

So now that we’ve gone over those basics, let’s get to why most of you are reading this post…the breakdown of each craftable item.

Let me preface this by saying, for this event most of the craftable items are decorations.  Anything that earns an income is unique, so you’re limited to just one. Therefore, what to craft and how many is entirely up to you…as to what you think will work best in your Springfield.  There are some great decorations that can work in a variety of ways in Springfield, but it’s up to you to determine what works best for your town.

My Personal Opinion on Craftables…
Don’t kill yourself.  Most of this stuff is just decorations and really unimpressive.  Craft what you like/think you can use in your town…but really nothing is worth kill yourself over.

Best item?  It’ll vary depending on your opinion of things.  Obviously the buildings with tasks are generally must haves, especially since they’re unique.  Everything else, it’s up to you as far as what works in your town.

So again…don’t kill yourself trying to get all this stuff.  Sometimes less is more. Craft what you have use for in Springfield….

Hope that helps some of you who have been stressing out over crafting!

And there you have it my friends…the details behind Around the World Crafting!

What are your thoughts on crafting for the Around the World Crafting List?  Which items are you digging?  Which would you pass on?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

99 responses to “Around the World 101: Crafting”

  1. I really, really love the trees!

  2. Pretty happy with the craftable items, especially the japanese items. I am working on heavily decorating my japanese area. I was a bit surprised that neither the pagoda, nor the shinto temple generate cash.

Also the design of the sakura trees is a bit underwhelming, since they look more like pink blobs rather than delicate sakura blossom trees. I was even hoping for the trees to be animated with flying blossoms when tapped, but sadly that is not the case.

  3. Maybe it was mentioned elsewhere, but I found a helpful way to round up tourists when I know I will be away from the game for awhile.

In the “reward center” tap the green skycredit button. It will give you a message about how many donuts to upgrade to the next level. Instead tap the blue “do it” icon and it will scour your town for any tourists floating around you may have missed! I have a massive town and tall buildings so finding tourists was a chore. THIS ONLY WORKS IF YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH CREDITS TO UPGRADE TO THE NEXT LEVEL so be careful if you have enough credits to upgrade.

Maybe this is a “duh” thing for everyone here but I just discovered it halfway through the event.

    • Definitely be careful that you don’t “level up” by accident…even when you know better, it is easy to forget to check your skycredits total against the “level up” total needed…wasted 800 credits that way and was totally aware of the risk…just not paying attention….

      • Argh. For the sixth (yes, six!) time I pressed this button accidentally. Ok, so two of those were on purpose but brainless moments where I forgot to check my sky credit total, but the others were accidents! I meant to press craft but my brain is obviously on hiatus. I’ve probably kissed 4000 sky credits goodbye this way. This last time I lost 520 sky credits instead of crafting a taxi. Set me back to 20 sky credits and no taxi 🙁 Note to self – slow down the skyfinger.

        • Again! I did it again. Grr. The only benefit to this is that it is now impossible to make this mistake again ’cause I’m now at crafting level 20. Now to collect sky credits for actually crafting those taxis.

  4. Does Mr. Sparkle is the only character for Springfield whoes
tasks help earn crafting currency (Sky Credits)? Are there other characters doing the same?

  5. Great article as always. Thanks!

  6. Observation: the Shinto Shine seems disproportionately expensive for just a decoration.

    • The Boulangerie Patisserie, the Pagoda, the Shinto Shrine, and the Soccer Court could all very easily be mistaken for items with payouts. Both from their costs and from their looks. Kinda disappointed they’re just decos.

      • I agree. When I crafted the Patisserie I expected it to have payouts. Don’t understand why the Soccer Court doesn’t have a task for the kids, missed opportunity.

  7. Yay, crafting, thanks for the work compiling all that. Another event where the crafting is more of a meh, at least there are a few useful things in the collection. I guess we’ve gone too crazy in past events pilling up numerous instances of one or two items and now they limit us.

    • You’re right about the limits on items with payouts, but I think the crafting selection is better than I’ve seen in a long time. I’d so much rather have useful town-themed decos than a field of unrelatable buildings with payouts. Three vehicles, three new trees, and lavender fields are all I need. Add the soccer court and lifeguard towers and I’m happy.

  8. Alissa: quick correction: the Venus de Milo sculpture is unique (as it should be… 🤓). You listed it as not unique. At least in my iOS game…

  9. I love most of the crafting items, but I wish the pagoda and Japanese trees had a smaller footprint. Lavender fields are kinda expensive, so I wanted to create sort of a boulevard with the maple and cherry blossom trees, but 3×3 is just way too big to be practical. Plus the cherry blossom trees look kinda off, like it was a candy floss tree or something.

The pagoda is especially huge, nearly the same height as the World’s Tallest Escalator. I would really prefer for EA to shrink it down so that it’s closer to the size of the lighthouse. After all, real life pagodas are only 5 stories tall, which the game did get right.

    • Exactly. The pink sakura trees look like bubblegum :/

    • Not all pagodas are only 5 stories tall… yes, in Japan, most pagodas are 5 stories but 3 is also quite common. Although, Chinese and Indian pagodas often have more than 5 stories. The main thing (regardless of country of origin) is that a pagoda must have an odd number of stories.

      * just a fun pagoda fact for the day 🙂🏯

I just wish the pagoda was a little cheaper to craft. I really like it and would like to have several but not sure about that at 1800ish Sky Credits each. Honestly, I was surprised it is not unique.

      • 1800 skycredits makes it unique in my town…lol

      • Josephine Kick@$$

Learn something new every day, I did not know pagodas had to have an uneven amount of stories, is it some sort of yin and yang thing? I only crafted one at that (cost), I do really think they should have made it a % or $ item. ~ 💜🌵🐠🌸🙊

        • You’re right, it is a yin and yang thing.
It’s much more encompassing than this, but you can think of it as yin represents negative and yang represents positive; with yin signifying even and yang signifying odd.
Since pagodas are religious buildings of some sort (houses of worship, temples, tombs, places were important relics and writings are stored), it is important to have positive energy present to ward off evil spirits and bad luck and such. This is why odd numbered levels are used, pagodas are all about the yang..
And yes, there will be a test 😜

Anyways, back to tapping, I have some flights arriving at the airport…

      • Yeah, if the pagoda wasn’t so huge, my plan was to craft two of them to flank Himeji Castle.

        • If you can get enough excess Sky Credits by the last day, then you should do it. That would look awesome.. especially with a Torii outside each one, some lanterns, and the new trees. I would need to check that out…

  10. On the subject of animations, one of my neighbours Football Entrance sign has an animated message running. Mine doesn’t. Have I missed something😢

    • On the subject of parts of your town animating when no one is performing a job task.

Back a while ago, TSTO used to have a feature where a building would be selected at random and all other buildings within a radius would animate, if they could, for a period of time and then it would change spots. I haven’t seen that in a while but I hope it is coming back. Only reason I can see for it going away is that people’s towns got so big that animating a chunk of it would produce tons of lag what with all of the other stuff going on. I’m looking at you monorail.

    • Send characters on jobs that involve tapball. I send tapball Homer on a 1 hour task and it lights up the sign and he stands outside the entrance tapping on his iPad. 😊

  11. Can someone explain to me where the flu level is for and how it works ? In my game it sits around 100% with 10/100 completed but i have no idea

    • I don’t think it means anything…flu victims now pay the same as other tourists and there is no prize at level 5…I pretty much ignore it…

  12. I release the gnome from his box but haven’t been able to find him????, “random comment”

  13. Around the World Crafting – 1st, well written post, Alissa 👍

Noobs have an opportunity to Craft new (and themed) Decor / Buildings to improve / increase their Vanity, Gluttony, Tree-Hugging, Indolence ratings (the rest of the Tappers will probably concentrate on Craft those new Buildings which have Character Tasks / generate XP & $ – aka “what we really want”) 😀

I notice we can no longer Craft more then 1 Building which generates XP & $ like we could last year (we get it, EA) 😛

  14. The pink Sakura trees look more like bubble gum than Sakura trees 🙁

    • Yeah, they look off. I thought I was gonna craft more of them, then decided against it after seeing how they really look in-game. Everything looks better when it’s dimmed out, before you unlock it!

    • I kinda like them…admittedly the pink is reaaallly pink, but they help pull Mt Fuji into the scene…

      http://m.imgur.com/rbMPsDf

    • I wonder if they will look different at different times of year. I think real cherry blossoms only last for a bit of the spring-time (though in-game George Washington’s cherry tree seems to be in blossom most of the year).

  15. I love the way they have this set up. I mix between level up by purchasing items and just level up with credits depending on how much it takes to get to next level and what I could buy to get there. Sometimes I spend 40 credits to level up va buying something I don’t want for 250. It’s a good balance I think.

    • Tracy - 1ltwoody920

You can always spend Sky Cedits themselves to Level Up, which I hav done
FWIW, I’m 180 away from the Brazilwood Tree – I’ll probably buy a Japanese Maple at 260.
From here, the Taxi will be interesting to add another vehicle, the Lifeguard Tower might go well along the beach,
And the steak House looks interesting, but nothing can liv without.

  16. It should be noted that today’s in-game patch changed SkyCredit earnings. Each tapped tourist now yields 4x SkyCredits instead of 2x. This is also why Mr. Sparkle’s jobs pays more SkyCredits than before.

This will make it a lot easier to craft multiples of the desired items…

  17. Trees are nice, adds a bit of color to the town. Hoping to be able to rack up a decent amount

  18. Are we just going to ignore the fact that there is an actual Brazilian restaurant with a huge difference tree growing in the middle of it? Haha It’s called Figueira Rubaiyat if anyone wanted to google it. I’m hoping it fits in a space I have in my casino district.

  19. The one that puzzles me is the lavender field. 800 for something smaller than other items that go for less. Same with the Venus De Milo…but that’s not one I’d like to craft more of (ew, rats). The field would be cool to use with a French garden, but it’s going to take a lot of credits.

  20. The Venus De Milo is unique I believe.

  21. Quite a lot of items I want, already have some.

  22. Are the EA servers not down for anybody else today? I haven’t been able to connect all day. I restarted, even deleted and reinstalled, tried turning off wifi… nothing.

    • I had this happen in the afternoon after the small update. Also my airport timer stopped at 0s. I reseted my android phone at everything returned to normal. My game would crash when I visited a neighbor using my iPad. I hope everything returned to normal for you.

  23. I really wish that there were more “earning” craft items. During the latest superhero event, I purposely crafted the buildings that would earn me $ in the future. It really helped me earn the cash that I needed for expansion. However, there just aren’t many buildings that you can craft that do this.

Don’t get me wrong: I like many of the items in this event. However, I would prefer being able to craft more buildings that earn cash.

    • I noticed that, too. All “earning” prizes are unique…would love to craft a dozen anything that would help generate cash. Best we can hope for is an XP bonus in the future…

  24. EA has done well this time. I am 80% satisfied with crafting

  25. See? French fountain? With a frog in it??

  26. I thought the Venus was unique.

I have to say I don’t care much for the crafting this time around. It seems like everything requires a fair amount of resources and there are no small items that you’d automatically want multiples of that you can craft to get to the next level (like the holo trees, bushes, and flowers in the Sci-Fi event). I keep having to craft a multiple of an item that I don’t really want a multiple of just to get to the next level.

    • I think you are correct–Venus is unique. I wanted another one to flank the hotel but couldn’t craft another.

  27. Love the Japan stuff. Gonna craft atleast 1 of everythjng and then plants and vehicle stuff will get multples

  28. Josephine Kick@$$

“…So I’m going going to go into a long discourse about how to craft, what to do etc.” Freudian slip Alissa? 😊
I think EA is starting to get their crafting formula down, other than not enough bonus % items for the lower level player. One thing I think would be great to have is an on/off switch for leveling/crafting. Our inventory is limitless, even if you don’t need 5,000 doohickeys, you will see a neighboreeno’s design using that item & tell yourself (if I’d only made more of those doohickeys). They’re free 😊
    ~ 💜🌵🌸🐠🙊

  29. I always craft extra stuff to level up and just store it in my inventory. Occasionally, previous crafting items become premium items with a bonus % in later updates.

  30. Totally random question…and I wanted to ask before I forget again. I own the Lucky Casino from the casino event…and it ALWAYS just sits there with NO animation, however the other day it was completely animated with all the lights flashing. It was glorious! But no character was in it doing anything in it. What triggers these animations? A similar thing also happens with my Springfield Henge. What the frick?

    Thank you 🙂

    • Josephine Kick@$$

There is a 6 hour task to “bet it all on black” that animates it, but I can’t remember which character it is 🤔
      ~ 💜🌵🌸🐠🙊

    • I don’t know why it randomly animates but if you want to animate the lucky casino yourself then send Dr hibbert there on his 6 hour task ‘bet it all on black’.☺

    • I’ve noticed the same with the little gnomes in Duff Gardens. Once in a while, they’re all moving, but I can’t figure out why.
