It’s that time of the week again, time for the Addicts Weekly Open Thread! So, let’s get the conversation going! Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long. This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!
Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING. Just no Add me requests…those should go here. We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that today is the Tiny Addict’s 2nd Birthday! Can you believe she’s 2 already? I know I can’t! We celebrated yesterday with a Minnie Birthday party (you can see some photos on my Instagram) and today we’re off to the zoo (after a breakfast of donuts, of course)!

Montymort is now serving his first life sentence 24 hrs. Is this already the bonus round?
I ask because this 24 hour task that the game asked me to do (it’s called “Lebenslang für den Zauberer – Teil 2” which could be translated to “lifelong for the wizard – part 2”). Is this the bonus round and if so, what can I win during it? “Only” donuts or some event / limited time content? This task ends 3 hours AFTER the event ends so I’m wondering what happens once the event is over – if I could miss some event content. Please help!
Bonut needs 15000 points , I wouldn’t worry about it . It is quite unattainable

Should have got montymort this morning…but then reset to 2/3 of task! So won’t be getting him and after all that slogging its a bitter pill to swallow.
I had 1/3 reset twice (at the end of the set of tasks, after the recovery 4hrs). I finally gave up and used bonuts to actually finish. Funny how when I used donuts, the counter advanced normally 🤬. I’m disappointed in EA for such sloppy programming, but not really surprised. I was going to just call it a wash, but the donuts were farmed, so I used them to finish.
I got Montymort a couple of days ago, and it says to keep playing to earn bonus donuts, but there doesn’t seem to be any in act 3. I’m confused!

You’ve got to complete the entire third act questline before you can earn bonuts, not just get Montymort. Even then you have to get 15K to get a single round of bonuts. This event in general has been horrible but this third act in particular has been even worse.
I got Montymort late Saturday but I doubt I’ll even get a single round of bonuts. I’m also sure there will be a number of people that played regularly that won’t even get Montymort. I feel like I only got him because I had two premium wizards and two premium beasts.
Should be on your task bar. But I wouldn’t bother, you need 15,000 and that’s not going to happen by the time they take this event down.
For the most part, I actually liked this event with the magic theme, even though the prizes were a bit hit and miss. But the Montymort battle finally broke my back. Took me till yesterday in my premium game, gave up on it in my freemium B game.
When EA introduced this at the beginning of act 3, it was a nice twist for the last act – until that one task turned up: defeat Montymort 3 times. Looks innocuous enough at first glance, but then it stretched on for ever and ever. And ever.
If they just had thrown in a few breaks along the way, it might have been bearable, but this? If EA had just broken this up in a number of tasks, like in the beast battle, and had given us a few words of dialogue and a new task for each of the six times we had to defeat Montymort, it would have been so much better. Somehow a finished task keeps pulling you along, even though the rewards are mostly negligible. It’s like a virtual pat on the back. I wonder how many freemium players actually made it without spending donuts. Might be a nice idea for a mini-poll. 🙂
This game is enough of a grind, but running two games? I tip my hat to you.
I am freemium and finished at the weekend. However, it depends on your definition of spending donuts. I did not use donuts to rush any tasks but I am certain that I was helped by spending my farmed donuts on premium characters helped a lot.
If you spend donuts (farmed or otherwise earned) on premium characters, it’s not a truly freemium game anymore. Haven’t any in my B game, and it is taking just too long.
Game “D” no premium characters or items, finished last night. It was possible. I even messed up a few times.
Forgive me but I was always under the impression that freemium meant you didn’t pay. I.e. you play the game for free. Perhaps another term of ‘Pure Freemium’ is required for people who believe that using any earned donuts to purchase anything is not allowed.
It is not so easy to distinguish anymore I guess, since “advanced” freemium players are able to get a lot of donuts via farming etc. In this case, I was thinking about people who couldn’t afford – or didn’t want – to buy any of the premium characters and had to do battle with just the free ones you get through playing. Especially with that glitch in the beginning it just seemed impossible to do that way…
I finished this event using just the free characters (i.e. I did not buy any of the premium characters or any of the premium monsters). I figured out in Act 2 that I had to make sure that, every day during the event, I had to log-in roughly every 4 hours in order to complete the prize track. I went down to the wire in Act 2 to get Greystash, so I made sure that I did every 4 hours right from the start of Act 3, especially after seeing that Dracula was the final prize. This got me ahead of the game on the prize track, as I have had Dracula for 4 days now. This also ended up being a good fit for battling MontyMort. I just finished him at noon today, and sent him on his 8 hour task for the questline.
In my B game, I spend no real money nor do I farm donuts yet. During this event, I didn’t purchase any premium items which helped earn prize currency or goblin gold. I did send characters on task almost every four hours. I finished Act 1 a week early, saved daily challenges and four hours worth of goblin taps for the start of Act 2 which I finished 5 days early, did same as Act 1 to start
Act 3 ahead of the calendar. I unlocked Montymort three days ago. I finished his questline this morning. It was difficult but doable.
Got montymort yesterday and was relief. Then the quest continue with a 4hs task and then with a 8hs task…. what a torture.
I’m going to check the market for the removal update by the hour
Reading a lot of comments from people saying they are long time (2-3 years) freemium players and are struggling to finish this event. While I can sympathize with you, I too am a pure freemium player and I finished Lord Montymort and got Dracula a few days ago. I play 4 times a day like most people. So how come I managed to finish when others can’t? Well I think the secret is KEM/Railyard Farming (NOOOoooooo!!!!! I hear Patric crying!). Here’s the thing. EA have given us these donut farming methods so I use my farmed donuts to purchase the premium characters that help with the event. Hence, I am able to finish early.
This is of course, no help to people who are newer players and don’t have the resources built up to take full advantage of these farming methods but to the longer time players I say get farming and spend your donuts wisely. Happy tapping everyone. 🙂
If you donut farm and spend them on premium characters, then you are not a freemium player. That’s how you finished and true freemium players have not.
Using donuts earned in-game to buy premium content is pretty much the definition of “freemium.”

Farmium playing makes sense too for added clarity, but there is NO Tapped Out player in existence that can say they are a Freemium player if one uses the limiting definition of not paying real life money OR earned donuts in game. The game gives you donuts to use right from day one!
Not only does the game give you donuts and ‘shows’ you how to use them (making you speed up something and buy something), but you can randomly earn donuts from the nuclear waste acquired from buying land. And then there is the railyard and where’s Maggie games and Sideshow you, etc. All free ways to innocently acquire donuts.
So where is the line drawn? If you farm for donuts, you are no longer freemium? Or if you spend any in game donuts?
Maybe to easily advance in this event one needed premium characters. I know I struggled this time with having Treestache and Wizard Martin to help me. But if I bought them as a non farming donut acquirer…then how are we defining things 😉
I’m afraid I’m definitely in the camp Freemium = not paying real life cash. It’s the only thing that makes sense to me and is clear. To say donut farming is not freemium but that you can still be called freemium if you spend in game donuts gained from mini games and random nuclear waste seems odd.
I agree – farmium is a subset of freemium. The one difference between farming and things like the rail yard and Maggie’s game is the shear volume of donuts you can bring in.
Or…you can do them all. Why limit your intake?
I agree, and I do all of them, myself! I was addressing the reason why the term farmium was born, even though they fit into the freemium category, because that was the discussion I was responding to. Did my comment not appear in the right place? I was responding via email to a specific comment, and when I do that, it doesn’t take me to the inline comment.
When anything is spent, gift cards included as SS has mentioned before, I think you do cross the “boundaries” between either freemium (For me that is playing the game. Full stop. No extras like farming, the odd “gift card”, whatever). Playing the game includes Sprinklenuts. I can see some TSTOers not using these by whatever method they choose. But I do not see them playing TSTO as it was intended. Sorry SS, to me you’ll always be premium.
I admit that I *was* a “premium-lite” player before (via gift cards that I earned through QuickThoughts), but now, I’m not….I spend no money in the game anymore. I play for free, so isn’t that the very definition of “FREEmium”?

I’ll have MontyMort by the time I wake up in the morning, Freemium and hardcore grinded 4 times a day on him, well worth the effort, I just sped up once to be safe to find out it doesn’t end till 1@m tomorrow evening, ah well 4 donuts no biggy =)
Just out of curiosity, started playing this game after the first year of release. … Playing still… Any idea or predictions if this or when this game will end?…I want it to continue lol

EA could redeem themselves big time for this event if they allow you to sell all those garbage items that you got from the trolls. I hope they put that in the takedown update.

I got Dracula with 4 days left, but will be getting Lord Montymort tonight. Cutting it close with no chance at bonus donuts. I would grade the event a B, but would be lower if I had no interest in Harry Potter.
Anyone receive the small island 2 from releasing Treestache? I forgot it was one of the prizes. I tried checking the store to see the cost, but it’s not there. I looked on wikia and found it. It normally costs 90 donuts! I’ve always wanted one, but for 90 donuts? Now I can get multiples! It only awards 90 vanity, but it’s a cool crashed airplane tail.

I love Harry Potter but this event is mediocre at best. Ending the 3 Acts with a random non-theme related character? I like Dracula, but it’s so out of place for this event. I wish there had been a proper THOH event and they took more care to craft this theme.
8 freaking rounds (including the initial one before having to do 3x) to finish off Montymort?! That is some serious stupidity and a horrible grueling way to end three Acts— why is EA not getting the message that this is too long and that breaks would be nice? What’s Worse?! You have to finish all this to finish the event questline and get bonuts (15000 event currency is way too high, imo)! I got Dracula ages ago and it took forever to finish the questline! Grrrrrrr. ;-P
I tap, on average, 4 times a day. I should be ahead of the game, so to speak. So sad I might not even make ONE round of bonuts due to this insanity.
I can’t imagine how many people must not be able to finish the questline or get Dracula on time.
I don’t want to be spending all my time on events and not have enough to design my town. I want decent down time with no mini events. My Springfield started off fine but now is just a dumping ground for….
I got Dracula yesterday. If I want to finish Montymort I’m going have to spend 12 Donuts according to my calculations. First time ever I ever needed to spend donuts to complete any part of an event. Anybody else?

Yup, I probably will not get bonuts because of Montymort.
Bonuts are extremely hard to get for this act, anyway. I finished everything several days ago, have all of the premium monsters (except for the dragon), and have yet to get to the first round of bonuts.
Happy Sunday everyone and Happy Birthday Riley. I just unlocked Count Dracula today so now I can spend tomorrow using up the crafting currency to get more items (mainly the Castle Walls) for the Academy and finish up my 3 areas’ designs for the show off on Tuesday. Unless EA allows some extra time or another way to get Montymort for free after Tuesday then I will not be getting him unless I spend some donuts to rush the character and beast jobs fighting him with this event. Like Sandytoes and maybe some others have said ”got Dracula we win some and lose some”, plus he does look like a better character than Montymort so tomorrow I can try to send him on his task to “Play a Tune” as a way of celebrating that this event is finally coming to an end and then Thanksgiving and Black Friday will arrive hopefully with some good deals and offers this year. 😀
