I’ve received some messages from a few people running private servers, and they wanted me to let you all know that there are still options for continuing your TSTO experience on a private server. Before diving into it, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Would you be interested in playing TSTO on a private server? Maybe you’re curious but aren’t sure how it works or where to even start? Or have you moved on from TSTO entirely?

I downloaded my game file and things needed like Bodnjenie14 etc. I tried setting it up according to the one YT tutorial, but the guy was too hard for me to follow. Thorough, but has the bad habit of jumping back in the instructions every few steps and speaking very quickly. Take this verbatim excerpt: “…so, if you go to the instructions, the first step is to download and add the DLC’s, download DLC’s, place them into the DLC folder so you place them in exactly like that, just in the DLC folder, um, you don’t need another DLC folder and then another DLC folder afterwards, just, this is fine, DLC and then the subfolder with DLC in.”. I watched this part like 7 times trying to decipher it and it was just 5 minutes into the video. Until someone like GamerPoets puts one out, I think I’m done.
If there’s something you don’t follow, comment on his video…that is what I did andhe helped me through it. He’s very helpful that way.
Yes, yes, YES!! I miss my Springfield so much. I used to tap out every day just to zen out and now life just hasn’t been the same. ☹️
I think the best option for you guys is to set up a tsto server- an official addicts one. Then we can visit friends. Make a YouTube tutorial, edit event code to make all of them work (or just write down which work and which don’t) and be a mod center for the game.
Indeed the hardest part of the “private server” that you run on your PC at home is changing the IP addresses inside the game itself (the APK for android or the IPA for iOS) to your local IP address along with a port number. (ie; http://192.168.1.36:4242). If you know how to install come specific utilities (like Python) and also know how to “sideload” onto your Android or iOS device then you are nearly there. You can download the bodnjenie14 private server zip from github and it contains everything you need (the server, config files, the .apk/.ipa files, a patcher for the .apk/.ipa files and some instructions). The server set up is as easy as editing a text file with your local IP address on your PC along with a port # (they do not recommend you use port 80 (or 8080), more like 4242, 8989 or 4567 or similar, any unused port in Windows) and then starting it up. It runs in a DOS window. There is a “dashboard” included in the server where you can trigger old events on the server and then load up your town and play them again but there have been some weird happenings due to the dates of the original event vs today’s date. You would def want to backup your town often (it’s just a file you can copy somewhere) just in case.
I have been playing my town locally every day. Once Team TSTO gets their iOS part up and running I’ll probably upload my town to their server and play that way. (I’m locked into my home network currentyl so I can’t play outside my home). They do plan on having the community create new content. There are a few folks out there (Darmar1st, SpAnser, etc) who are very knowledgeable about the “0” and “1” files in every DLC package every created. An editor/creator for new ones is probably already half written.
I’m excited for this game to continue and to possibly have new content.
While I understand what you’re saying myself, realize that, for many people, will of that stuff you wrote at the beginning probably sounds like an unintelligible foreign language (or the adults in a Peanuts special 😄). I’m guessing most folks are gonna have to wait until it’s hosted on an external server and is much easier to access.

I certainly would love to play again! I just have so many questions. But definitely interested!
I always hoped that the game would continue. TSTO was my therapy recovering from the death of my son from fentanyl, open heart surgery and a fire and a hurricane flood. I was a player from almost the beginning. I’d still be playing now, if it were available — even though it became very repetitive. I very much appreciated this website and the people that ran it and contributed. Thanks to everyone!

Thanks so much Sandra. It was way more complicated than that, but I didn’t want to whine. The fire was from a contractor I hired to repair my house. It was actually like a Simpsons episode.
The question is, HOW would this work? I see the video tutorial is about how to set up a private server, NOT how to access one.
So are we talking about us AS INDIVIDUALS setting up such a thing? If so, that’s clearly a non-starter for most of us.
Or, and this is what I was ASSUMING, are we talking about some technically savvy TSTO fan setting up one of these private servers and letting us run our games on that server? So we’d connect basically as usual, with perhaps some tricky bits to get through the first time???

My sentiment exactly, setting up a sever or connecting to one, would friend visits be possible, so many questions

I stopped playing when they announced it was the end. everything has a season and my long season of playing TSTO I say is over. While there is still a crapload of new premium content for me to buy. My motivation to play was the new events and new quests.
I’m not sure how I feel about it. can I still get content I didnt get before? if it is just a grind and daily tap, then I’m out. I am def interested but unwilling to pay for a free game. I went all these years and only spent $5 on the game.

I haven’t known whether to trust the people offering private servers… good to know they are trustworthy. I haven’t checked the lists yet, in some ways I think best to let it go and enjoy the memories

I found my Springfield listed via the link Alissa posted. Now I have another reason to love the Internet Archive! I’ll be making another donation to support them!
In a heartbeat. Someone posted a hyperlinked list of games on Facebook but neither of my games would download. I assumed it was because they are still working on the iOS platform?

Computer: Undertale. My favorite game of all time, it changed my life. I’m being completely serious, this game is a masterpiece.

Omg yes I’d love to continue playing it. I was never able to fully decorate my town how I wanted to. I have also yet to find another game that hooks me in the way TSTO did.

Got one running right now…and just checked in on our town, another session of rail yard is “in the books”. Unfortunately I was “finding Maggie” earlier when someone on discord wrote a message to me…I looked up and that was too late! I was right to Maggie when I looked up, but saw that fateful message displayed about being too late! 😔
