What a Wookiee Wants: Oh No! More Krustyland ideas!

You know… the little joke in the Maggie questline about Krustyland got me thinking about EA’s forgotten little disaster.

Moe Krustyland TSTO DialogueWhy don’t they do more with it? Is there a way to connect it to regular Springfield without the shuttle so people don’t ignore it? I am an admitted theme park enthusiast and I enjoy going to Krustyland. I’m proud of my designing in KL.

Wookiee Krustyland

Even if you feel like Moe about it, the Sideshow You donuts should be enough of an incentive to pop by. I’ve had some ideas for bringing some TLC to the theme park before and actually had a post idea for months that was delayed by events, school, work, and real life in general.  Then I read some of our addicts discussing it in the SUnday Open Thread this morning and realized I should get off my Duff (pun intended) and finally write the post since I find myself with some free time. Of course, I write on said Duff but anyhoo… here we go-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh………..

TSTO Krustyland visitors main

So I’m randomly watching Simpsons episodes back in October the way I normally do (open Simpsons world… whichever Season pops up gets clicked and then I randomly hit an episode) and what should I happen upon but “I Don’t Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” (S19:E4). Marge becomes a hostage in a bank robbery at the First Bank of Springfield. She saves the day by convincing Dwight (amazingly voiced by the incomparable Steve Buscemi) to give himself up provided she visits him in the joint. Marge doesn’t live up to the promise so Dwight escapes from the big house and kidnaps her. Don’t worry, this post isn’t intended to be a bummer. I only bring up all this because Dwight has abandonment issues and takes Marge to Plaster Mountain Theme Park because his real mother abandoned him there.

Plaster Mountain Theme Park Simpsons

There’s lot of goodness here that could be incorporated into Krustyland: Dilbert’s Flying Cubicle, a Skyway, Bumper Cars, the Tilt ‘N’ Spew.

Plaster Mountain Theme Park Dilbert's Flying Cubicle Tilt N Spew Simpsons

I giggle at Mr. Frog’s Mild Ride.  As a kiddo, the ride this spoofs was my favorite. I’ve taken my own kiddos.  DOn’t want to spoil the ending of it but when I took my 3-year-old son, at the end he asked where we were.  DIdn’t know what to say so I just said Florida lol. Fun to point out that Krusty was visiting on the same day as Marge’s kidnapping.  I know the designers could find some clever way to incorporate this theme park in a funny questline.

Plaster Mountain Theme Park Mr. Frog's Mild Ride Simpsons

Why not just bring Dwight David Diddlehopper into the game with his beady eyes. A task for him with the Maniac Mirror could be funny.

Plaster Mountain Theme Park Maniac Mirror Simpsons

FedEx Presents: The Bathroom and It’s a Long Line also make me giggle. It should be pretty obvious that this particular amusement park is parodying another famous one that I may or may not work at.  Also some ribbing at SIx Flags expense especially if you’re familiar with Magic Mountain.

Plaster Mountain Theme Park FedEx Presents The Bathroom & It's a Long Line Simpsons

Although Krustyland already has a Viking boat ride, Plaster Mountain has a double one. I think I just want to see a Wiggum task on it.

Plaster Mountain Theme Park Viking Boats Simpsons

So much more cool looking stuff in the backgrounds of these shots.  There’s a fortune teller booth at one point and Quimby winning a monkey at a game of chance. Of course, there’s plenty of other theme parks EA could incorporate into Krustyland. Why not just have Krusty acquire the rights to Duff Gardens from “Selma’s Choice” (S4:E13). The whole questline could involve Howard K. Duff VIII attempting to buy the park or something like that. Lance Murdock is also in the game so this seems like an easy choice. I just really want to see the Home of the Whiplash (not to worry, it was completed in 1994) and the washing machine.

Duff Gardens Whiplash & Washing Machine Simpsons

The Beerquarium, Beeramid, and Duff Beer Hall of Presidents could be fun too. Why not give Abraham Lincoln and George Washington their animatronic equivalents?

Duff Gardens Beerquarium, Beeramid & Duff Beer Hall of Presidents Simpsons

The Little Land of Duff and Duff Light Parade could spruce up our forgotten theme park. You know you want a Lizard Queen task for Lisa.

Duff Gardens Little Land of Duff & Duff Light Parade Simpsons

I think the Barrell Roller rollercoaster would be delightful in our towns and include a fun task for one Bart Simpson.

Duff Gardens Barrel Roll Rollercoaster Simpsons

From experience, theme parks could always use souveneirs and security. Where else to buy beer goggles and Bort license plates?

Duff Gardens Simpsons

Well those are just some of my ideas. Heck, EA could even do something revolving around Ned Flanders reopening Praiseland.  What about Mt. Splashmore?  I’d even like to see as simple a decoration as Krusty’s Crowd Control Barrier (or is is Krowd Kontrol) from “Homie the Clown” (S6:E15).

Krusty's Crowd Control Barrier Simpsons

I’ll stop here but hopefully you can see some of the possibilities. What do you think of the ideas? Got any others you’d like for KL? Sound off in the comments and stay classy like usual. I’m off for another random Simpsons episode. Who knows what inspiration might strike next?

  1. The only Krustyland attraction I’ve heard mentioned in the show is the House of Knives. We need that, and its action should be “Not decapitating tourists.”

  2. I don’t completely hate KL, mainly since I haven’t finished it yet. But there could definately be ways to spice it up. More questslines would make it fun!

  3. Alex - aabcampos2

I like KL. the problem is the loading time. Now that our devices have more memory, EA should load KL silent behind the scenes right after we enter our city.

And so we can go to KL really fast

  4. The main thing I want from KL is to be able to put pretty much anything from Springfield in it. I have so many things in storage because they don’t really make sense in Springfield, but none of them are allowed in KL. There are also a bunch more I have up in Springfield that I’d much rather have in KL. Opening up all of those items and buildings would give me the incentive to finish buying the KL land (I’ve got over a million tickets) and do some reorganizing.

    Things like:
    Castle pieces
    Aspiration buildings
    EFCOT
    Heights items
    Holiday themed items from events

  5. Who has the most Krustyland Tickets? I’ve got around 175k, but saw another commenter with over 200k. Anyone have more?

    • I bet others have more, but I’m sitting at about 1.2 million…

      • Have you unlocked all the land? I spend all my tickets unlocking the land & have 2 rows left…

        • I have not. I have enough land to have things decently laid out with full ratings on the meter, but since I don’t really have anything else to setup I haven’t bothered purchasing the rest of the land. I’m sure when I eventually do buy it my tickets will take quite a hit.

          • Most definitely! It obviously depends on how much you’ve bought already, but the total cost for every square is apparently 469,000 tickets.

      • I was wondering if anybody would have over a million.

    • I don’t know how many I’d have had by now because, the last time I was running the collider, I went over to Kland and traded in tickets for cash to buy more rat trap trucks. (I did leave a nice ticket cushion behind, though, in case they decided to suddenly release another Kland level or something and I needed tickets to buy the next ride/stand/whatever.)

  6. Being reasonably new to TSTO I missed out on alot/all of the limited time KL rides, so I welcome anything new to KL. Everything suggested I’d be all for, but when it comes to the rides at Plaster Mountain Theme Park, it sounds as if those won’t happen unless we get a separate KL-esque extentions for, you guessed it, Plaster Mountain Theme Park. My only thinking on this is because only KL sanctioned stuff can go in KL, so I’m not sure Plaster Mountain stuff would fit, unless KL bought out the theme park and added an attraction much like the House of Mouse made Star Wars and Muppet attractions…although there’s a rumor Muppet Vision 3D is potentially being shut down 🙁

  7. I set up my Krustyland so it mostly mirrors my favorite park, Six Flags New England. I would love to see a Gil deal whwre you can get a set of the premium rides for a discount.

Another idea. Switch Krustyland with Heights. I would rather be able to see my cool rides then the hideous oversized heights buildings.

  8. I guess I’m one of the few that likes KL. I go daily waiting for tap 300! I don’t think I have ever gotten the random sprinkles. I am buying up the last of the land and think I will steal some of your design(s) Wookie – thanks!

    • Since it resets every 8 hours, see if you can up your visits to twice a day to tap SSY. I visit Kland once in the morning and then, again, before I shut down for the night. Every once in a while I forget to do one of those two visits, so it generally takes me about 8 weeks to earn the 5 SSY bonuts.

  9. I forget about KL for the most part since their isn’t anything more to do there besides a slight chance of donuts from sideshow you. I like your idea though. that would make KL move interesting 🙂

  10. I agree, and I also have to admit I have ignored mine as well. It’s tiny and I barely did much with it, I did design it so it doesn’t look THAT boring lol
But it’s true they should add a LOT more to it. I think it’s been years since they actually added anything to it. I think they should focus an “event” around Krustyland, that would be a good way to get people back into it.

  11. The Problem Child

This is the Krustyland I want:
    http://i.imgur.com/j5Ggh.jpg

  12. Here are my suggestions for KL: 1. get rid of the Krusty Currency and replace it will the real stuff; 2. Increase the donut odds on Krusty You; 3. Allow all decorations from Springfield to appear in Krustyland; 4. Have a short seasonal activity, like Valentines Day, around the Memorial Day weekend with a Krustyland themed activity. That’s all I got for now.

  13. Wookiee – You really should work for EA…you always have so many great ideas!

  14. If they could come out with an update where Krustyland Is on the same screen, maybe more players would use it. Just a thought…

    • Amen. Get rid of the shuttle and put it in Springfield and I’d be so happy I’d even consider nuking just to design it into town

  15. Hi wookie, K H Duff, yes please!!! Hes a requiring character I have a idea for him I’ll post about on Sunday, duffman contest, the duffete’s, so much can be done with him, more on that later. You know what they say great minds think alike. Keep the awesome post comming wookie!! Have fun tapping °\©^©/°      \_/

  16. I personally love Krustyland. However I’ve done pretty much all I can with it, unless I want 30 fried dough stands and 50 Krustyburgers to take up all the dead land I have. I go there pretty much every day to pop balloons and tap tickets. Once I have enough I buy the next plot of land. I have a lot of land left to buy but I’m definitely ready for some new content!!! 🎉👑🍧🍭🍿🎪🎟🎡🎠🎊

  17. I love going to krustyland but it is indeed quite empty when all the land is bought and lacks animated tasks.

  18. I keep seeing reference to this quest for Maggie. How long ago was it? Is it possible I did it and don’t remember? I believe I have every game update, etc. but have not been prompted in recent days to do anything special with Maggie or Krustyland, there has been so turbo tapping I’m aware of…..I’m confused…..

    • It was part of the Act 3 questline for the winter event.

      • Oh phew! I really thought I was missing something current – it seems to have come up as a topic a few times in posts or comments since yesterday. Thanks Alissa! PS – I’m glad to hear you have such wonderful care arrangements for Riley. Having been through it x3, I know how crazy stressful it can be to get a situation you’re comfortable with, so I’m just really happy you’re able to make it work so well. Take care.

  19. I agree Krustyland deserves more action, but what I really want to know is….WHERE IS MY VALENTINE’S DAY EVENT??????? I want to tap (squish) big walking hearts, and I’ve been longing for a chance to buy Brandine forever…….

    • Me too… Today is Chinese New Year AND Mardi Gras, and Valentine’s Day is less than a week away, yet TSTO’s got nuthin’.

I suspect a KL update is coming this year, unless EA really has given up on it. (Game companies have office politics too: KL might well have been the brainchild of a game designer who’s no longer working on TSTO.)

  20. I’ve used Krustland to drop all the Valentine Day stuff. It looks kuch Niger three then in Springfield

  21. Krustyland is woefully underutilized, and I would like to see some of your ideas incorporated into the game. I spent a lot of time designing mine, and I’d like to have a reason to go there more often. ‘Itchy & Scratchy Land’ from season six is another good amusement park episode. Thanks

  22. sabrtriviachamp

Finally- I’m not the only one who likes Krustyland! Along with the rides and attractions (who wouldn’t want the Duff Beer-amid as part of their Duff Pavilion?), I wish EA would allow more of the Springfield decorations into Krustyland. I have a bunch of the stadium fences, lollipop flowers and marshmallow trees thinking they’d fit in there perfectly, but you can’t use them. This is a mild annoyance I wish they’d address.

  23. I have a kid who just likes to go to Krustyland to pop the “Sideshow You” balloons. When I got that challenge, my game wouldn’t acknowledge that I went to Krustyland and popped them. I finally had to “X” that challenge after 3 days of trying.

  24. If they put SH in another map everyone would hate it just as much.

  25. Yes, it would be better to directly connect Krustyland to the main town.
    My idea for improving Krustyland:
For 100,000 tickets, you get a chance to spin a wheel (because we all love to spin wheels !!) and get a chance to win 1-5 new non-paying customers for the park. I want my K-land packed fuller than the biggest day at theat Mouse themed park.

  26. I think you hit the nail on the head with the Shuttle comment Wookie. I actually like Krustyland, I just completely forget it’s there most of the time. I’ve actually left a couple characters doing jobs there for an extended amount of time until an event prompted me to look for them.

I wish EA could connect the two maps together, maybe make something like ‘Krusty Island’ which was off the coast and could only have KrustyLand items.

Seems like such a shame. Wish Springfield heights was hidden away instead 😉

    • Yeah, Springfield Heights is the red-headed step child that I despise… I’m trying to finish that now and I’m spending a couple days for just one upgrade. There’s a lot of work for little pay. I like that in Krustyland you have normal tasks that earn you currency. I just wish you could use more items over there like all of the balloons.

      • Speaking of them both, in KLand you can convert that KLand currency into money. I say, in SH, once you reach a billion (much like having to finish all the quests in KL) that you get to convert SH currency (coffee, yoga mats, et al.) into money, also. Or something useful.

        • ???? You can! You can buy stuff in the store with it!

          • Oh, my, I must have said that wrong. 😉 I meant, not SH stuff, you know…useful things? 😉 kidding. My statement was about the “money”. KL Tickets > money; SH currency > money. That kind of thing. The “something else” was donuts… *hides*

        • I wouldn’t want to exchange it for cash since I can send my characters directly to earn it. And I want to keep my stores full, so the icon doesn’t show up in the character locator. If “something useful” means donuts, then yes absolutely! Never would have thought it before (and still don’t really) but with EA being so donuterous lately, you never know.

          • Donuterous? Oh, donut + (gen)erous. haha. 🙂 (Not donerous? Then it also sounds like don(ate). Doughnerous, for the Brits.)

            • You got it! My latest attempt at a portmanteau…

              • Why? 🙁 If you stop then I have to stop. 😛 If you mean that I made my version…um, “synonyms”, ya know? 🙂

              • I said latest, not last lol. I don’t know that I’ll be able to come up with anything as good as “bonuts” but that’s not going to stop me from trying. Shouldn’t stop you either. 😀

              • I don’t know how to read. 🙁 la(te)st, made sense to me. 😉

Is that what you were trying? Oh, I’ll try harder, then. Let’s get a new word adopted. Cute little words.

              • I wouldn’t say it was a goal, exactly, but I like how bonuts has become part of the lingo around here. It has a certain ring to it, that my attempts, have admittedly, been lacking.

              • Well, let’s break it down. 😀

“Bonuts” come from a two word phrase (4 syllables) “bonus donuts” maybe even from the three word phrase (5 syllables) “bonus round donuts”. Besides having “a nice ring” (some sort of pun about the ring shape of a donut, I’m sure 😉 ), “bonuts” shrinks down the length of the word to just 2 syllables. I think 1 or 2 syllables is preferred by the masses, while 3 syllables may still be acceptable. The other aspect (probably the ring) is its allusion to its word parts. “Bonut” (especially “bonuts”, the more common term) sounds very close to “bonus” with just one letter different or one letter extra (a not very intrusive letter, in this case (the ‘t’), meaning it doesn’t change the sound by much; say them both out loud and listen for the difference). The second allusion is to the word “donuts”. The same can be said for this word, but what I’ll point out is that a ‘d’ is like a mirrored ‘b’.

As we can see now, class :P, this constructed word is basically perfect and you may now begin to weep in the sad reality that another word like it does not exist. Well, go ahead, prove me wrong, I’d like to see it. (Really. It’s not sarcasm.)

Back to being serious, I’m very sure I’ve read an article stating that the words that catch on are the words where the components of the word are still grokkable. That was one part of it. It also needs to have a use (obviously). We talk about want our bonuts a lot around here, but harder less applicable concepts might not have much place to be used. Could look through what we’re always discussing and see if there’s some words we could make use of. (We want: a new level; a new event; Hartman characters; to have successful rocket launches.)

Another thing to consider is what do people think when they encounter the word. Do they think it’s a typo? Do they think it is but don’t care because it’s awesome?

What about “real” words that you’ve yet to encounter? Why do you think it’s a real word? It has to follow the rules of English (which might mean to break a few as you go 😉 ). It has to also have something familiar about it. I have seen people reject real words because it didn’t seem to follow any logic. People being me, maybe. I forget which word. So, it is a difficult attempt if even real words can be rejected.

I have “created” some word phrases. It’s something to consider, because word phrases are just two word words. 😛 I don’t recalling creating any single words that have caught on. Making your word look natural, and then getting people to use it, that’s the hardest part. Like I said above, might even want to play around with typos. If it’s something your fingers think is right, maybe people’s brains think it, too. That and “verbal typos”, where we skip over parts of words while moving onto the next word (which is essentially what “bonuts” is). While the output of language is linear (speech, writing), the processing and formulation of it isn’t. I have so many words in my head at once it’s a wonder anything coherent ever comes out of it (does it??? 🙁 lol).

(I know you didn’t ask for this. Sorry. I’ll stop replying this way to people…I “promise”?? 😀 )

              • XPlicious? (Pron. “expilicious”)

              • Did you want me to analyze that? (I will, but just want to make sure.) Otherwise, um, what does it mean? I’m gonna guess something about a good xp bonus percentage?

              • Yeah – that works. Or how you might refer to the collider (adjectivally) when you’re raking in the XP and getting lots of bonuts.

              • An XPlicious time full of bonuts? Yes.

          • Thanks for the dissertation. 😛 In short, I agree with your breakdown. Bonuts will be hard to top (both as a word and as a reward) but that doesn’t mean we can’t try. And maybe if it can’t be bested, it can at least be tied. (How do you “tie” a word?)

As for your list of wants. One portmanteau jumps out at me right away: levent, a level within an event or saying I want one or the other or both. (“I want a new levent.” “A what?” “A new level or event, you know, a levent!”) Two syllables, compact and concise. I don’t know if it’s any good but it fits some of the requirements, maybe not all. But that’s just off the top of my head.

  27. good idea to use krustyland now forgotten

  28. Just the mere thought of Krustyland makes me taste bile.

  29. The main reason I avoid it is that I can’t add anymore to it unless I spend donuts. I’ve got over 200k of tickets but unless I want the worlds largest gift shop collection there is no way for me to spend them. I would love some new additions buy for tickets only.

And I laughed outloud when they were making fun of their own area of the game in the Maggie quest. Kudos for them to own up to it

    • You may swap tickets for cash at the Krustyland gate…

    • You might consider using all those tickets to farm KL items for the XPs. Then sell them back right away. It all adds toward reaching the bonus levels and getting more donuts. I’ve been using KL exclusively for this purpose.

    • I once converted the Krustyland tickets to cash and want happened an hour later?…… Their was a Krustyland event (the Princess and Krusty). So I keep a healthy stock of tickets (70k)
I also have my lattes, chairs, pills,….. fully stocked.

  30. What are the “sideshow you” donuts?

      • Interesting. I’ve played with Krustyland a lot, but never gotten donuts from bursting balloons.

        • I played daily for about 15 months now. Not sure how long I’ve had the Sideshow-You going, but it would be many many months and up until recently I popped close to daily. I have yet to receive any donuts. I can’t work out exactly how many taps I would be on, but we’re talking 100s of visits..

So yeah, seems to be not working for me … bit disappointing. I’ve been waning on KL a lot lately. With main Springfield having so much to look after and lots of income, the fiddle of KL for no real reward, not worth it.

        • every 300 tries i think

          • You’re right. Every 300 times it is guaranteed.

          • 300 balloon pops, to be more precise, equating to 100 games. At a rate of doing it twice per day (somewhat easy to do) it takes roughly 50 days or a bit over 1,5 months. I’m getting the 5 donuts at pretty much this rate regularly. Last one was Feb 6 and the time before around christmas. In the weeks between I happened to be able to do it even three times a day at 5am, 1pm and 9pm.

      • Actually after playing many times at Sideshow You and writing down the results I came to the conclusion that the donut prize is not random – I get it every 100 games exactly. The only case where this rule was broken for me was when the entire game crashed on me when I was in Sideshow you and apparently has reset this counter.

        • From what I understand, it’s a combination of random and not random. You are guaranteed donuts after 300 taps (100 visits), but there’s a very small chance that you can get donuts on any tap. I’ve asked people to cofirm having gotten donuts before they got to 300 taps and several people have. It’s never happened to me, though…I always have to wait until I finish my 300 taps to get them.

          • I think I got the random ones once. For those saying they never got them I’d be sceptical cos they’re not very easy to notice. They can easily be mistaken for a lowly 5 ticket prize except the writing is in pink. Yes, there’s a small picture of a donut too but it’s easy to miss.
