An hour +, a pint of delicious chocolate fudge brownie ice cream (which my conscience also loves, Lee), and 948 comments later…..Holy Mary Mother of *od.
Sounds like everyone had a fairly upbeat and jovial week on TSTO. Promotions, prospectors, parties abound! Nicknames & I got a new friend….SW (May the FORCE be with you) vs ST (Live long and prosper)…and yet, I find myself anxious. ANXIOUS!
So, as the end of Act 1 approaches, and I read about strategy as we prepare for Act 2…seems to be the theme is HORDE. Here is my question….is that a “hint” or is that a “best guess”? I happened upon the “?” within the General Store today (quite on accident) and noticed some graphics that give me the impression Act 2 will have different resources and currency. I’m still going to horde resources JUST-IN-CASE they are useful; and yet, I am preparing myself for it all to be a wash when the new wave of Wild West hits on Tuesday.
I posted a screen shot of what I’m talking about in Flickr, but if you want to go to it in your games….just go to the general store and click on the “?” in the upper right hand corner, which takes you to the “General Store Guide”.
I have determined you can typically pick up little clues about what’s to come in the graphics. So….I see our lovely clues, plus some badges and dynamite, which I believe will be Act 2 and Act 3 currency. Then on the “Wanted” board – we have pickaxes, hats, guns and gold. So, I’m wondering….because this is not so obvious, whether or not there will be added resources, something replaced, everything replaced?
I guess bottom line for me is that I’ll tap all day as long as there is something to gain, no matter if I’m done with the prizes. I’m a bit obsessed that way. NO, I am not OCD….well, not diagnosed anyway. I just have a bit of a compulsion. A bit. Teensy bit.
Here’s to hoping hording pays off…..back to Springfield. I just have to say it – I have a sneaky suspicion Act 2 is going to be guns and badges. This cannot be deemed a spoiler because I do not actually know it to be true. Just guessing.
That’s my bet. Act 2 – guns/badges; Act 3 – gold/dynamite.
Looks like EA is trying to force a timeline with this one. Any thoughts on the motive there? Somewhat of a moot point for me because I’m going to play every day anyway, but it’s interesting how they have put “controls” on the event to spread out the prizes over the duration.
Give it up everyone, what do you think and why? How has this change affected your game play if at all? What are your thoughts on Act 2? What’s coming next? Who’s coming next?
Don’t know if I’m answering any particular question but…..
Once you’ve got Wes Doobner, you’ve finished the prize track for act 1 so you only need to hand in 4 small things to unlock your daily rock/gate. Any more would be wasted.
I think act 2 will have a new currency but the existing currencies will stay.

This kind of hits on my question – resources vs currency. Keep resources for new currency – correct? That is the current thinking?
My thoughts were basically pondering if BOTH are going to be replaced. As Sandra stated, there are those “above” that have insight I do not have….just thinking “out loud” so to speak.

You know, I was going to say that the guns and badges will be *in addition to* the hats and pickaxes, because that’s usually what’s happened in previous events, but I just had a thought that makes me less sure of that… When I think of this in terms of previous events, there’s been crafting involved, so the earlier currency had to remain so one could continue craft items that required that earlier currency. But this even has no crafting, and EA does have incentive to keep folks from racing through the acts (especially after the way the casino event went), so it’s possible that they could wipe out the previous currency and start fresh with just new currency.
That said, I’m going to continue too operate as if that’s not the case, especially since our fearless leader has indicated that she thinks that hats and pickaxes will continue (and she can see the game code). But I know that she’s only guessing, too (albeit, making a more educated guess), since nothing’s for sure until the game releases it.
So, now I have a question for you… When you sit down with a pint of ice cream, do you generally eat the whole pint? I’m not asking this to make you feel guilty or anything…I’m really just curious! I don’t think I’ve ever done that, personally, but I think lots of other folks maybe do and I’m always interested in hearing about things that other people do that I don’t do, because I often find those things more fascinating than things I’m already personally familiar with (if that makes any sense).
Ok, just wanted to make sure. I think we are on the same page with our thinking. I have noticed that it seems EA is attempting to exert more “control” on distribution of prizes; so, with that methodology, I could see them “replacing” the resources/currency in Act 2. I also agree with you, that usually, regarding something like this, we would have a “heads up” on what to look for in Act 2.
Long story short (as-if) I’m going to continue to collect and try to help neighbors who are in that 18,000-20,000 range and have a chance to make 25,500 by Tuesday.
The one serious downside to having a limit on what resources you can turn into currency per day is that I’m sure there are people who can play more on the weekends than during the week, and they are now limited in their ability to catch up by how the General Store works. So, those people who might be need 5,000 clues per day and conceivably could do it on Saturday/Sunday – might be cut off. That would really tick me off. IF I had the resources, but couldn’t craft the currency to get the prizes. Oh Boy.
Here’s to all ya’ll in the rat race for finishing the prize track on time.
But the limit is cumulative, so it doesn’t really matter. I mean, if they’re getting cut off now, that’s because they made more trades earlier.
Funny thing is, I never once hit that limit. I don’t know whether that’s because I made fewer trades, only trading for the right a hand box, but if the limits based on number of clues, not number of threadless, that shouldn’t matter.
A pint of ice cream. Not too often, but sometimes, and especially if its GOOD ice cream. Actually, Dr’s orders….I swear. I have an infant and she was worried he wasn’t gaining the weight he needed and I hadn’t put on much myself so she told me to eat ice cream every night. HAHA!
How much does your little weigh? Mine is 14mo & 23 lbs but is very short like less than 5th percentile short lol. His pediatrician is keeping an eye on it in case it’s more than just getting the short gene from my side of the family. Now if only me eating ice cream could help him grow!

We almost always have a gallon of some flavor of lower calorie (100-130 range) ice cream – most often Edy’s. Today I had a mad craving for Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey and I thought that, rather going to the scoop shop I was right near, it would be much cheaper to get it at the supermarket. When I got there, In saw it was still pretty expensive, but I also could see the calories in it and I just couldn’t do it.What I really wanted was one of those individual cups….if they had had one of those (they did, but not of Chunky Monkey), I would have gotten it, but having four servings of it, even over a few days, was just more than I could bring myself to do.
It’s odd that almost no one makes a banana-based ice cream out there (or at least among the supermarket brands)….it’s such an obvious choice!

I never understood why we don’t use metric. When I used to study physics I’d convert my figures to metric, do my calculations then convert back to American Standard. It’s so much easier to work with m it’s all 10’s!
Well, President Carter tried to get us there, but it didn’t “take.” We only got as far as converting our soda bottles.

But, yeah…metric system does make more sense (although I much prefer using Fareheit to Centigrade, because it’s more discerning).
In pretty used to it. About half of my friends aren’t American so I’m used to using kg, Celsius, km etc or else they have no idea what I’m taking about.
Nerd story…
I do R&D, recently working on a project where I needed to conform to the Standard 19″ Rack system.
After sending them to the laser printer to fabricate a prototype run of 10 units, because their machines talk metric they converted my CAD files dimensions using 2.5 cm to the inch rather than 2.54cm… I decimal place missed and the whole run had to be re-cut. NOT at my expense!
Roughly half a liter…more or less, depending on whether ice cream is considered “dry” or “liquid.”

I have engineering as my fundamental background, my Grandfather was an Instrument Maker, and taught me everything I know about metal working, I even have his old Myfield 7 lathe and still dabble, THE most frustratementnessmous is constantly converting Imperial to Metric to Imperial… stoopid 1000th of an inch, that’s the worst butchery of both systems, but to accommodate the two and still retain precision needs must be met.
I thought that hording the event currency for this act would have something to do with the last day of act 1 and donuts since we’re not going to have a traditional bonut round. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking :/

Few days ago, I made a comment on another blog on this site, saying the Cowboy actor set didn’t give the 2% as promised…took all this time and I finally realized I meant to say the quicksand….it was supposed to give 2% money and exp and still doesn’t. Man I think I need a new brain sometimes….

Hey everybody, happy Friday night. Friend announcement will probably be away from game all day Saturday, garage sale then probably heavy crash after. So I turned my red light on (NO not that red light)😉 I should be good till end of act 1 so send your prospectors to other pep who missed days or are behind.

Having bought more land, (weird, I know, but around 3 years in as freemium, only purchase land when needs be…) I’ve finally managed to tetris-shuffle my farming district down to my new Wild West area, whilst trying to adjust and incorporate the extras (my “Abandoned Mansion” is a bit more appropriately placed :), and spacing out my “council” area whilst still retaining the current Monorail and also thinking about my Medical street but making sure extraneous wood-ish and appropriate tents, magnifying, trees, graveyardy bits, deserty bits, workhousey bits… WAARGGLEE Meep…

The legends are true? Every time I’ve skipped a challenge during this event it’s gone to a cash reward, then back to event currency. No donuts, yet.

I have a concern regarding the tactics that EA has “encouraged” with the neighbourino event ranking table…
Being completely honest, as a regular of TSTO I did appreciate knowing “where I’m at” in relation to others, but now… not so sure.
Reason being, honestly and pre-apologies already, I find I am only leaving Prospectors in my “top twenty” neighbourinos.
Why?
Because as I am now pretty regularly tapping and appreciate the sheer amount of updates and content that has been added with the Wild West, I know these neighbourinos will tap and if I stay logged in for 20-30 minutes after releasing all Prospectors they usually all tap back.
I’m sure most of you AWOTters, probably most of my neighbourinos, are dark – staring at me now, but I want all the content, and like many of us here, will do it in the most effective way possible given the tapping that you do. ..
Definitely feel the same way about the neighbor system, but if even some of us only do the “Top 20” (I usually recipricate as soon as I notice a name of someone that dropped regardless of top 20 or not), that may give us inscentive to compete to BE the top 20.
I’m not sure exactly what EA has “encouraged,” because, balancing out your approach are three people I’ve seen post here that they like to concentrate on people near the bottom of the list, to help them out.
So, basically, once again, it’s the “middle class” who get screwed! 😉
I’m aiming for the middle. The top, I figure, don’t need much help. The bottom, my help won’t help, much. But the middle is, hopefully, where I can help. 🙂
So, it sounds like everyone is being taken care of them, just by virtue of the different ways different people like to play. That’s nice! 🙂
At the start of the event I did my best to spread the prospectors around. Of course with only so many to spread, there was only so much I could do. I tried to get the regulars from here (you, simp7, Ciara, and Lee were usually full) and other neighbors who I’ve had for a long time or were being very generous to me. But now I’m looking at clue counts and dropping in the middle ground. 🙂
This is actually a great idea. See, Awesome Dave lives! I think I’ll go check out the Act 1 post to figure out the total for getting the final prizes and try to help those closest……only three days until Act 2!!!!!

I know it sounds a bit selfish, don’t get me wrong, I try and think of all my neighbourinos.
Those I’ve met here get a bit of preferential treatment, ‘specially Sandra (it all started with that chess game ;).

I don’t think it’s selfish. It’s a good strategy if you’re still working to get the last prize. But after you’ve earned it, any clues go to “waste.” Instead of sending prospectors to neighbors that already have the last prize, I’d rather send them to those that are close but might need that little extra help. But there’s no right or wrong way, just whatever works for you.

Hi, I’m not sure if I should post this here. I visit the website a lot but haven’t posted anything before.
I live in the UK and I had a message saying I needed to update before I could continue, this is on top of the wild west update. I manually updated as required but now when I play all my characters are black lines, so are a lot of the fences and things to do with the wild west. Is anyone else having this problem? My game was working fine until this update :s

I missed 4 days of TSTO when I was out of town (I refuse to spend vacation time behind my screen!) and I’m totally behind. Oh well, it’s just a game.
Thank you to my neighbors who have been helping me out! I’m trying to repay the favor, but it’s a little hard to keep track of. I have a ton of prospectors so leave me one if you’re my friend and I’ll give you a few back! (droptherock)
I like the whole idea of the stop light thing but I play too inconsistently to use that, to be honest. I think it’s a really fun idea – but I’m sure I would mislead my neighbors if I tried it.
Does anyone have a picture of the bandit fort thing in their town?
I have only 9 donuts now so it’s probably out of the question for me unless I splurge which raaaarely happens.

Ugh! EA really needs to get their stuff straightened out! I went to visit my neighbors today and noticed a long term neighbor was no longer there. So now I have no idea if it’s apart of the glitch going around or if they actually did unfriended me. This person is a regular on here so I wonder if they would think I’m a weirdo if I asked lol.

You were right it was the glitch and thanks so much for the input! Also, sorry for not getting back to everyone sooner! I have a new phone and it’s driving me insane getting used to it lol. My husband finally convinced me to get an iPhone after continuously going through android phones (one or more a year).

Unfortunately my wifi is still on and off. It was working 2 days ago, only for a few hours though. Then dsl was playing up again. I’m still waiting for the technician to fix the phone line. After all, and I’m stating the obvious, this is just a game and we should be playing it for our own enjoyment, let’s not feel pressured by misguided perceptions as to how we should be playing our own games.
Hi new neighbour 🙂 All good now. Just got a portable one and now I’m back yeehaa! I thought to let the neighbours know because I don’t want to lose any. Many of them are great neighbours with nice looking town and I enjoy visiting them. Feeling pressured though to get the prizes. Won’t get there on time, bummer. Just finished sale, so off to my town for first time today, having serious withdrawals! So probably have bunch of prospectors I will drop your way soon. I think most neighbor’s are either done or close, if not send a reply and will hit towns that are pushing to complete 1st act.

Welp today I had a “it won’t happen to me moment” in TSTO. Was logged in, got booted off, didn’t think anything of it since it happens pretty much daily if not few times a day. Log back in, and my level 59 account is level 1… Year and a half of playing and this is the first and so far only time this has happened to me. From reading previous comments I was prepared and it was just a matter of time. Thanks to this website, I already had an account set up, so uninstall, reinstall, and it fixed the issue. This is definitely a real threat. I remember the first time it happened to me. Thankfully, I got some great advice when I first started playing and set up and Origin Account right off the bat. Even knowing I had the account I remember the light-headedness that ensued when I went to go tap my Springfield and had nothing, NO-THING. I FREAKED OUT, then just played until I could sign in and it all came back. That is a freakish experience though. I cannot imagine if I hadn’t had an account and had lost it all. I don’t think with a game like this is it worth trying to be anonymous.
Not so much a threat from me, since I don’t work for EA, and others players games don’t effect me, more a warning that anything is possible, and if you invest even a dime into this game, create an account and not play incognito.
At this point, I honestly think if I did lose it all somehow (doubtful, since I do, of course, have an Origin account), that would be the end of the game for me. I could maybe live with having to re-place all of my items (though not even sure about that), but no way would I want to go back to the stresses of having to scrounge for cash to build the basic buildings and get needed land. Fortunately (well, in terms of the game), I was out on disability when I first started playing, so I had the luxury of being able to play with very short tasks to help earn money faster, but, now that I’m back to having a full-time job, it would be really difficult to start from the beginning and get anywhere fast enough to keep me interested.
I was bragging to my dad yesterday that I couldn’t remember the last time I was sick. Whaddaya know, sick as a dog today 🙁 I woke up with a touch of it and just knew it was gonna get worse. I was debating all day whether or not to email my boss and ask to get off early but I just stuck it out. Might have to take the day off tomorrow though if it gets any worse 😩

Have been with my employer for ~6 months or so now, and with the last 20 years of employment I can only remember taking time off when I had chicken pox (adult version, think bubonic-plague-like whelts every square centimeter…), but curving over the 40 mark, in the last month, after professing to HR “I never get ill”, I have had a coupla days where I could barely lift the phone!

It’s what we call “Pig Latin”…it’s one of those things you learn as a kid.
To translate it back into English, just take the letter (or phoneme, like “gr” or “th”) before the “ay” at the end and put it at the beginning of the word and then delete the “ay.” So, for example, if you saw “anessavay,” you would be seeing Pig Latin for Vanessa!
The one exception is if the words starts with a vowel (a, e, i, o, or u)…then, when you’re translating from English into Pig Latin, you only add the “ay” at the end – no letter gets shifted from the front to near the back. So, if you’re translating from Pig Latin back to English and you see the word “eatay,” then you know it’s just the word “eat.”
Okay, since I’m an instructional designer by trade, I know that, in order for instruction to be effective, you need to provide an opportunity for practice and feedback. So, here are your practice exercises….

You cannot imagine how honored I am by those things that you said and I think that, you too, are a woman after my own heart. I admire you tremendously and am consistently impressed by your command of English (as I’ve said before, it’s far better than most Americans) and by your willingness to just dive headlong into it. What you do here is much more admirable than anything I could possibly do here. I’m so glad you enjoy my writing….I just try to be myself as much as I can here, because it’s so much easier than doing that, say, at work, where I have to be much more careful not to say the wrong thing or to be too much “me,” so I don’t annoy and/or intimidate and/or interrupt anybody and where everyone wants highly concise communication, because they’re too busy for anything else. And, at home I have to be a bit careful, too, not to annoy or bore my husband. I do have some good friends, but I often feel self conscious (I didn’t used to ….that only started after I had been working in my current company for a few years and had to undergo a bit of a “personality adjustment” (it was done to me with the best of intentions, but it left me feeling very self-conscious, even though I might not appear that way if you talked to me there…I’m both self-conscious and confident, if you can imagine the two co-existing…I guess it’s confident about my knowledge and professional skills and a bit self-conscious about my people skills. Again, it wouldn’t be readily obvious — I’m not on the Austism spectrum or anything and I was actually quite popular in elementary school and didn’t really have a traumatic high school or anything — it’s just that the personality style of the majority of the people in my particular company doesn’t really match my natural one. (And, by “personality style,” I’m actually referring to People Styles – a type of personality assessment that has 4 primary styles, Amiable, Analytical, Driver, and Expressive. Each person has a primary and secondary style (or just one primary style), and it’s more about how you communicate and body language and stuff than it is about skills. (So, for example, while I’m quite analytical in many ways, and pretty skilled at that, I am not an Analytical in People Styles, as I don’t talk slowly (ha!) or need lots of time to process what’s being said before I can respond, etc. And a person who does have an Analytical People Style might not even be very good at analyzing stuff!)). (Okay, I think that, for the first time, I’ve gotten lost in my own parentheses…and I think my original sentence didn’t even get finished, but I’m going to start back in with a fresh start and a new paragraph…)

As for phonemes….I believe that they’re single unique sounds, that may be made up of more than one letter…for example “th” is a phoneme, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s at the beginning, middle, or end of the word.

I can’t remember how many times I read a post from you and I caught myself thinking the exact same thing you had just written, or sometimes you were just about to write. For example, I remember a post (if I’m not wrong in the most recent Open Thread) in which you were replying to someone, and I thought “wow, that’s a long sentence, even for Sandra”, and then – BAM! – you open a parenthesis saying this very same thing. (I started typing other examples but I realized I would have to expose other readers to whom you had replied, so just know there are tons of others, lol!) You comment here so much, and I’ve been reading your comments for so long, that, now, when it comes to grammar stuff, I feel that I understand you completely. Even the slightest thing possible is noticeable to me – remember “Hail Ants” – “Hail, Ants”? I can totally picture us genuinely having fun together debating over these things.

I have an interesting glitch going on that I have not seen in any of the comments. My Krusty Burger clock on “Robbing Springfielders” is resetting. Twice today I noticed the clock was reset when it should not be. I have tried to see if I could recreate it. So far, I have not figured out what triggers it.
I recently started going to neighbors and back when my first tap on a prospector did not reveal a name. I got the name after doing that, but then noticed the resetting of the clock.

I may be late to the party on this one, but if you tap on most of the boulders/rock structures there is a little animation (underwhelming but fun surprise to me). Again some of them (not all of them do).
