Gil’s Latest Gimmick: Details & Should You Buy Burns Dragon?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Looks like Gil’s back in Springfield.  He returned to Springfield yesterday, naturally with another offer for us.  What’s the latest gimmick he’s peddling? It’s only natural that he’d be pushing an overpriced fire breathing dragon on us!

So let’s breakdown the details of this latest offer and determine if you should spend your donuts on this fiery NPC Combo….

So when you first get into Springfield you’ll see Gil waving his arms around..doing his best impression of Touchdown Jesus…just begging you to tap on him…

If you tap on him you’ll see…

Gil: Hey, folks! Have I got a nifty deal that’s a real steal! I’ll swap ya a pile of gold for something you hold!
Lisa: You’re trading gold for donuts? Gil, you’ve made terrible business decisions in the past but this is the worst.
Gil: Oh, ol’ Gil has his reasons.  If I flip this pile of gold over, that’d keep an ancient dragon from burning me and all that I own to a crisp.
Lisa: A dragon? If dragons are part of any deal, you really should mention them up front.

At which point you’ll see the latest gimmick…

If you refuse…

Gil: That dragon won’t leave me alone! Ol’ Gil don’t need ol’ flames chasing him right now.  That’s not the kind of companionship I want!

Remember, if you refuse the deal you should be able to get it again via your Store menu…

This Offer Ends October 16th, 2017…

If you accept

Gil: Yes! No more dragon draggin’ ol’ Gil down. I mean gold! Did I say dragon? I meant gold.

If you accept you’ll instantly get the pile of gold.

Once you place the gold you’ll see the character unlock message popup for the dragon:

And he is part of the THOH XXVIII Beasts Character Collection…

So now what I assume most of you are here for…Should You Buy this Dragon Combo?  Let’s break down the details…

Building/Decoration: Burns Dragon Gold
  Burns Dragon (NPC)

Vanity +100
Other Info: Can be placed grass|pavement|dirt|beach

Offer Ends October 16th

-Helps earn event currency
-Comes with 3 additional unique decorations to Burns Dragon (you can get multiples, but they’re unique in that only Burns Dragon can get them)
-It’s a dragon

-Decorations do not earn any sort of bonus %
-NPC, meaning can only be captured/enchanted/released…no other tasks

Final Thought:
Premium or Freemium:
Before I even start, I know there are a bunch of you who already purchased this. (and odds are you used farming bonus donuts to get it) It’s a dragon.  You like dragons. I get it.  And I’m not talking to you here. I’m talking to the rest of you.  The ones who genuinely want to know if this is worth it..
DO NOT BUY THIS! It’s insanely overpriced (it’s the equivalent of $8.30 if you purchased the $99.99 pack of donuts, and over $13 if you purchased the $20 pack of donuts).  It also doesn’t do anything that Wigops could/would do in Springfield (as far as the event goes).  It doesn’t earn extra event currency. It’s decorations are basically variations of gold. For 199 donuts you’re getting a dragon form of the FREE Lewd or Kearneymon.

I dont even like dragons but I would have gotten this at 100 even 120 donuts…but 199 donuts is just a kick in the pants.

Don’t buy it. Tell Gil to take a hike.

Of course in the end it’s completely your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do.  And I can tell you, as a premium player, I’ve never passed on something so quickly. Just remember, they are limited-time.  So whatever you decide be sure to make your final decision before it leaves our games on the 16th.

Here’s a look at the decorations….

  1. Is capturing him a permanent task?

  2. HELP PLEASE! I got the Burns Dragon/Gold in the CREATURES Black Friday box (quite a value!!). Anyway, I’m now stuck in the 1st part of the questline – “Capture Burns Dragon 0/4″……… can I do this/clear this if the event it was associated (clearing dark Mana) is long gone? THANKS! And thanks again for this great and very informative site.

  3. This deal is insanely expensive. But I still bought it and I’m glad I did it. Dragon Burns reminds me of the ones on GOT and I don’t have any other characters like it. Plus it has the added benefits of being in a character collection and it fits in with the Money Mountain. The Mountain has always stuck out in my town. But thanks to gold items in the Time Traveler event and Dragon Burns, I have a nice section in my town.

With this said, I really appreciate the Should I Buy posts. They’ve saved me a lot of donuts especially on crafting buildings and decorations.

  4. The concept of the burns Dragon is actually pretty good, but it’s way too overpriced. I already knew not to buy it as soon as I saw the 199 donuts cost. You’re a terrrible businessman, Gil.

  5. Glad I checked here first; I assumed that the decorations would at least carry a bonus %age given the price.

Even farming doughnuts 199 is way overpriced for what this does.

  6. So I broke down and got it. My main goal is to complete all of the character collections.

But here is the cool part. When I got it, I ended up having to call EA because the dragon disappeared and my donuts were missing. The person that helped me was named Mark. As he was helping me, we were chatting and I told him how much I loved and relied on tstoaddicts for my info. He knew exactly who I was talking about. His exact words were, “Those guys are legit!”

So Congrats to Alissa, Wookiee, Patric, Safi, and Bunny (we miss you!!). It’s awesome that EA knows and appreciates what you all do for the game!!!

  7. Well, it’s definitely not a deal, and overpriced even by Gil standards. I got it anyways though, because it’s a dragon! I do not recommend following in my footsteps if you’re looking for any kind of ROI.

  8. This deal makes me sad. I love dragons, and when I say love, I mean llluuuuuuuuuuuvvvv. Without a bonus % or certainty that the lair will generate money afterwards and/ or that the dragon won’t remain an NPC, I just can’t do it and reinforce 199 donuts as an acceptable price. Way too much, EA, for what this is. I must hope that this comes around again later with a rebate, on sale, or in an event box. In the meantime, I’ll console myself with the rainbow tears of my Chinese dragon trio.

  9. I’m very thankful for the Addicts Team efforts to bring SIB posts. I may KEM farm, but even KEM farming comes at a cost. I KEM farm continuously, which means I barely have over 1 million in cash at any given time. I haven’t bought new land tiles in months. I have empty space in my game because most event items end up in storage. I keep the items I like out. I keep enough land free to do KEM farming. I spent quite a bit of money on this game over 3 years, but in the last two I have been able to KEM farm. I’ve never hacked the system. I wait for SIB posts before spending donuts. I think the most donuts, accumulated before a big spend on event, was 750. I have never had more than that. I average 27-36 donuts a day bonus. Then you take into account spending 25 donuts often to keep 5x Multiplier going 24/7 , a task speed up here and there, random item grab for % increase, an occasional Gil deal, and event characters and the stock pile of sprinkles depletes rapidly.

  10. I would like to put the KEM farm debate to rest. Here’s the deal. EA could easily fix this loophole if they wanted. All they need to do is put a cap on the number of any given building allowed in your city. But they haven’t done this. Why not? Who knows? Maybe they feel that they’re still making lots of money on the game. Maybe they feel that the KEM farmers haven’t hurt their bottom line. I don’t know, and I don’t care.

I’m a little tired of the moral judgements being lobbed around. I believe that this forum has (for the most part) been very supportive of all players REGARDLESS of each individuals playing style, and it should remain that way.

If you want to KEM farm, or do the rat trap delivery truck trick, then do it. As for the rest of you out there who don’t want to farm, then by all means don’t waste your time on it. If you want to spend money on this game, then please do so. If you don’t want to spend money, nor KEM farm, then don’t. It’s really quite easy (thank you John Lennon). (That’s an “Imagine” reference).

So can we stop all of the judging now?

    • I think it’s more frustration out of the price increase for items than anything. It’s a pattern, and perhaps EA keeps farming in tact to justify those spikes in prices…

      • That and (for me at least) it’s insanely frustrating to see people say “i bought it because i have so many donuts it doesn’t matter what i buy”… 1. It’s frustrating because i spent time and effort coming up with a detailed SIB post & those kind of comments say “meh your effort was stupid and pointless cause i don’t care what you say” 2. For long time players it brings back the memory of how bad hacking in this game used to be. (Not that you’re doing anything wrong, but hackers use that same phrase)

        • I hear you Alissa. I want you to know that I really appreciate all of your posts (and Safii, Patric, and Wookiee). Believe it or not, I don’t buy everything. Also- this is embarrassing for me- when I bought Gil’s deal, I thought the Burns dragon was going to be a playable character. I wasn’t really paying attention, and that’s my fault. I still have a hope that they will turn all or some of these npc’s into playable characters.

I think the thing that has been bothering me is that people have been dividing themselves into different philosophical camps, rather than just enjoying the game the way each individual should be doing for themselves. Does this make sense?

The irony of the criticisms of the farmers is that I don’t think the non-farmers understand how much time goes into the act of farming. It all boils down to time vs money. Farmers invest a lot of time into this game. On the other hand- those who prefer to spend money get to have even more things than those not willing to spend the money (I.e., squeaky voiced peasant, etc.).

Every time I think the debate is behind us, something like this happens and I feel bad that it always seems to get out of control.

          • lol it’ll never end. I just think, for me anyway, I like looking at how it’s changing the game. I don’t fault people for doing it, but it’s interesting to explore how the game is changing. And see if it’s because of farming or just EA. A couple of years ago 150 donuts was A LOT to pay for a premium character/building. Luann was released at 150 and people freaked out, now that’s the norm. So i just like seeing and exploring those trends. Also the items that you physically have to purchase…is that becoming a real thing now? Are they going to go to 2 premium currencies? Things like that I like to explore…which is why I raise the questions.

    • As the English shout: “HEAR, HEAR!”

    • Sillyboy, I mean no disrespect nor am I endorsing or not endorsing farming (because I am neutral on that subject) but I respectfully suggest that your comment “On the other hand- those who prefer to spend money get to have even more things than those not willing to spend the money (I.e., squeaky voiced peasant, etc.)” does not take into account those who cannot afford to spend money at all. They might invest minimally if possible but farm strategically to generate donuts. I have read countless posts on this site of individuals who discovered tsto while going through lengthy recuperation from surgeries or various untoward hard times where finances are grim, for whom tsto is a haven of great creative escape and importance. That this game is free to play and has increasingly allowed those players access to earned donuts despite their financial limitations is a really good thing. I suspect many whose circumstances improve and allow do pay for donuts in addition to or in lieu of farming if they can take that path.

I am not being critical, I am simply trying to present another point of view. I get that you might have been referring somewhat to the ‘characters only available by buying donuts’ but I think my point stands in general.

  11. Way to expensive. Although I hate leaving holes in the character collections, I am passing on this one. The second hole after the Screaming Caterpillar. *sigh*

  12. Hi there Alissa and Patric & all others!

Finally a post from myself, who is lurking your forum since I started playing the game. I love these SIBs, Patric’s music stories, event calendars and Safi’s mathematics in general, just to name a few 😉

I just want to take up the cudgels for the KEM-farmers, because I am also farming. But, imho, there are a few things missing in the discussion:
    1) It seems that it is not as easy to become a _successfull_ KEM-farmer. It’s more about it than just reading Safi’s post (which I very much appreciated, when I first found it). You have to have a long-term strategy, you have to build up your bonus (I’m around 535% plus the hidden SH-bonus). You have to think twice if you need more land or want to farm. Normally, I build 3-4 times a day 50-80 KEMs, but you have to keep in mind, that it as easy to spend 400000 or even more ingame cash when you harvest them. My daily goal is 50 Donuts, sometimes less, sometimes more. But with all these items EA is throwing at me these days (my 2nd THOH, playing since the Casino event), it’s still impossible to get everything. I might get the dragon, but it will definitely hurt as I will not get the dorm then.
    2) I got to the point where I am now, BECAUSE I spent around 700 Euro (830$) for the game, which is compared to the normal 40-50 Euro for a PC game a lot and I guess that EA will survive if I’m out spending more money.
That’s where my bonus comes from (remember the bug when we got – I believe – 125% for 5 islands for 200 Donuts? I bought them, they removed the bonus, I complained and got it back. But that was hard-earned money!

So, my conclusion is, that you can only successfully KEM-farm as a long-term player who spent at least some money for this game (at least the equivalent of 2-3 PC games). I don’t see KEM-farming as a glitch: it helps me reduce my average costs and keeps me playing, because I am not frustrated and get the things that help me with the event(s).

    P.S.: @Ry B: I’m still trying to design a beautiful city 😉

    Greetings from Germany

    • I am a pure freemium player. I have never spent a dime (except for the iPad and internet connection). [Though if I was actually paid minimum wage for the time spent it would be in the 10 figure range.]

  13. I’m mulling this one. I love the character but there’s no building and it is well overpriced. I haven’t completely ruled it out though.
Tapping into a theme in the comments, I am also a Farmer. I spend around $25 real money a year (in my local currency) as well to top up (most recently at St Patrick’s Day when I really wanted items that had been placed in those $&@k”ng mystery boxes). I tend to regard cash payments as something fair enough to do as well because this game has brought me so much joy and I would hate to see it become unsustainable for EA – but I can’t afford to spend very much so I farm as well.
My 30-KEM farm is in my Springfield Heights area, which is something of a dumping ground for ugly cash-generating and XP-boosting items. I have a well-organised town on the other side of the mountains. I’d be rather embarrassed if anyone thought that SH was all there was to my town!

  14. I got it lol. I got forced by my Youtube Channel

  15. How about NO! This shouldn’t have been a Gil deal!
