So it’s Tuesday and Black Friday has hit our games…someone really needs to buy EA a calendar for Christmas. Loads of questions/comments/complaints/general panic coming in over this. So let’s break it all down…
Black Friday mainly consists of the Mystery Boxes (outlined here). You do NOT need to buy donuts to participate. You can simply spend farmed donuts to open other Mystery Boxes. Just because you have a questline doesn’t mean you have to follow it.
Now let’s break down some other questions/concerns…
As I mentioned in my post yesterday, some boxes looked like they may have duplicate items but we couldn’t be sure until it hits today. Well, boxes do in fact have duplicate items in them. So BE CAREFUL. Don’t spend more donuts for an item you potentially could get for less in another box. To the same extent, don’t pay for all the items in a box when you could potentially get the character/item you want in another box for fewer tries.
Basically, pay attention and think before you start to go crazy on opening boxes. Think about what you want and what the best strategy would be for you. Look at each box in available in your store (it’s free to view them) and decide what the best plan would be for you. Then start to buy. Remember, this plan may need to be adjusted as you open more boxes. So keep checking the boxes to see what’s left and adjust accordingly.
Gold Mystery Box
Because there are items in the Gold Mystery Box that may appear in other boxes (which only cost donuts) OPEN THE GOLD BOX LAST. That way you avoid spending a valuable token on something you could have spent donuts on. Try to save the valuable tokens for the unique Gold Box items…this is the list of UNIQUE Gold Box items. Don’t start opening until you’re down to these items…in my opinion…

Black Friday 2018 Questline
When you start up your game you’ll see the Black Friday 2018 questline popup. This requires you to buy donuts in order to get tokens.
You’ll need 900 total donuts in order to unlock the full lot of tokens and the 3 prizes in this questline.
Prizes are:
Shopping Cart Pile Up (Buy 60 Donuts)
Monstromart ( Buy 300 Donuts)
Lard Lad Donut Factory (Buy 900 Donuts)
You DO NOT need to purchase individual packages to unlock everything. If you have the money, your best bet is to spend the $49.99 (US) and get the 900 donuts, that will unlock the whole questline and give you all 3 prizes.
And….
No, you cannot buy Golden Scratch-Rs to complete the token questline. YOU MUST BUY DONUTS FROM THE STORE TO COMPLETE THIS. So don’t waste your money on Scratch-Rs they won’t help.
So what do the items do?
Shopping Cart Pile Up (Buy 60 Donuts)
The Pile up is 3×3 in size, improves vanity and earns nothing. (whomp whomp)
Monstromart ( Buy 300 Donuts)
Monstromart is 7×12, improves consumerism and earns $200, 22xp/8hrs. It also comes with a questline (involving Flanders) and when completed Ned will have a permanent 4hr task there (Shop for new bible). It’s also, weakly, animated when in use.
Lard Lad Donut Factory (Buy 900 Donuts)
The Lard Lad Donut Factory is 7×16 in size, improves Gluttony and earns 6 
/24hrs. It also comes with a questline (involving Homer, so you’ll have to wait until Thanksgiving is over to complete it) and when complete Homer has a permanent 8hr task there (Search for Special Donut). It’s also animated when in use.
My Opinion: Don’t waste your money. Sure a building that earns donuts seems cool, but it’s 6 donuts a day. You can earn WAY more than that (without spending real cash) from Farming and Daily Challenges. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DON’T GET IT!
My Opinion On The Mystery Boxes: Personally, I don’t think they’re worth it. I don’t think anything with this is worth it. You’ve got to really think before you buy boxes, because of duplicates, and with all the Mystery Boxes coming back each event you’ll have another shot to pick stuff up. So, my opinion, say no way EA! And pass on this stuff.
Then again I’m just ticked off at EA. They’ve done more in the last 5 months to piss me off than they have in the last 5 years….

Mmmm, my account is quite new but already at level 9. The black friday event did not start. Any idea why?
Certain events are triggered at certain levels. It might trigger at level 15 or 20.

You should be able to make it. I went from level 21 to 32 in one day. And level 13 to 20 in one day.
I’m not interested in the donut factory and spending 50 Euro BUT I think the price is fair. I won’t open pandora’s box about the fairness of KEM-farming but if we won’t spend a buck here and there why should EA keep the game running? So don’t damn EA for the 900 donuts+factory bundle – just buy it or ignore it and don’t rage about the price and argument with KEM-farming why someone shouldn’t pay the price. 🙂
BTW: Is Wookiee okay? Haven’t read of him in a while.

Again…not against giving EA money…just not that much at one pop.
Did I miss something? I didn’t get a free token but I see people talking about getting a free one.

Bought all the mystery boxes that were to have for donuts. Didn’t know I was missing so much. In the end my savings of 2,000 donuts were just enough to buy it all. o.O
Time to start saving up again for next year.
Wo what’s with the tokens – if i don’t use up all tokens will they expire and be lost for me or will they be saved for a later “token-fest”?

First time I participated in the black friday TSTO I loved it.
So there were three things in my gold mystery box when I got the free token. The bandit fort, the polo house, and the cartoon set with Scratchy.
I probably wouldn’t have been highly motivated to spend money for tokens anyway, but I got the cartoon set, which I actually sort of wanted. I’m definitely not motivated now.
Kinda want that donut factory, though… (less now that I know it’s only 6D/day.)
Anyway, will take a crack at the creatures and the women, and maybe the skins. There’s a lot of junk in the boxes that I didn’t ever buy because I didn’t want it, though. Even 25 donuts might be a waste for a lot of it.
(Also, what’s with the C.H.U.M. robot? He’s in like three of the boxes ranging from 15 to 75 donuts! Sheesh!)

I’d happily spend cash on some tokens to aim for the donut factory, but I don’t have the land to do anything with it. With the collider and all my characters on 24 hour tasks i generally get 6 donuts a day anyways. What’s the point of all these buildings if ea has become stingy with the land. There’s no point purchasing these things to sit in your inventory, I have also promised myself not to fall for these stupid spin the wheel odds type of game mechanics that is basically just bad roulette gambling, in any game, and its a shame EA has opted for it such a long time ago. I’m always hoping they will drop the gambling mechanics.
It would have been awesome if you could get unlimited land tokens in the gold mystery box.
I’d pay for a land token factory. :). It is the item I need the most. The fun is in designing. I like using everythign, and have done that since the game started.
So i got the donut boatload from the mystery box from the task i have but i have no donuts from it..is that correct
Did you buy the boatload with cash? If so…you should have the donuts and the coins.

You got the decoration with the animation when tapped that rains donuts.
I spent some $30 on the game to replenish my donut count and get every item in the gold box (almost by accident) and almost everything I wanted from the mystery boxes, along with some stuff I was neutral about. And…I’m kind of glad I did. I’ll occasionally use the XP Accelerator and drain my treasury to farm with bloodmobiles, but I don’t do the daily farming – it’s just not a good use of my time. I kind of wish I’d just paid $50 to get everything, but that’s a minor issue (buying a few stepwise donut purchases got me to 300 and more tokens than I would have gotten if I just purchased 300 donuts straight, but in retrospect I would have gotten plenty of tokens from just buying 900).
I understand that for the serious whales and addicts this update is an annoyance. But it’s perfect for casual players, even those who have been around 5 years like myself. And the whales will need to buy 900 donuts just to get the donut factory, which is a further win for EA – and really no skin off my back.
The last time I dropped cash on this game was for Sven Golly, and I have no complaints about him being in a mystery box here – we got him free with purchase of donuts (and 100 bonus donuts) then – how does him being available in a mystery box diminish me?
Anyhow, Kudos to EA. This is why the game is still alive.
Definitely 100% agree with you. I typically will spend 10 or 20 bucks here and there over the years. Especially for a character from the show I have wanted.
I’m on once to five times a day. Spending 50 bucks in one shot in the end will be a bigger payoff than how I have done it. I don’t farm donuts or anything like that. I’m semi casual.
I missed some events due to work. Now I have pretty much everything I wanted. For far cheaper. Just from the tokens.
Worth it for gamers like me..

Try storing it and pulling it out again…if that doesn’t work, try visiting a neighbor and coming back (syncs the game).
I will thank EA for the 1 free Gold Token that scored me the Lovejoy House + Daughter ( hey more Churchy Joe’s!👍) and that is all, because I’m not keen with what they’re doing (Patric nailed it! this is poor odds gambling / a money grab! )
I’m not against anyone taking advantage of the Mystery Boxes, but I don’t support these Gold Token Quests (tell EA nope with your actions!) 🤷🏼♀️

She’s like, the one thing I’ve been really wanting to get at a discount but I hate the mystery box concept. Case in point: the zoo gift shop box? I had 4 things in it. Only two I wanted, only one I REALLY wanted. What do you think happened? It felt super rigged in spite of the fact that I’m sure it’s random. I got Dia-Betty with my token. Not something I wanted at all, but I suppose it could be worse. She was an overpriced Gil deal and I got her for free.

It’s “free” whan you buy donuts.
Guilty as charged – KEM farmer that always spends donuts on new characters, but never on skins or event buildings. This year’s Black Friday was the payoff for being miserly. I chose to empty the Alter Ego box and now have 27 quests to work through…. but compared to getting all of those skins during the events, one heck of a savings. Same goes for Decoration and Outdoors, since many of those items help with Conform-O-Meter (albeit not as effectively as mystery boxes). Deals, deals, deals. Happy to add to my town. Also happy to leave a lot of things in the boxes, as I still don’t put much value on them, despite the savings.
For the record…. I farm. And I bough a couple Alter Egos… all good.
– Game Money doesn’t mean anything any longer
– Can’t buy land without the tokens and EA only provides one strip at a time
– Can’t buy what you want with these mystery boxes
– Now, they want you to spend REAL money to get prizes?!?!?

I’m so excited! My first mysterybox!
For those who know me, I was an OGW. Original Whale. I spent thousands (a bit of an exaggeration but seriously around a grand) making sure I had everything. Then I had two strokes and various other health problems and have been on disability ever since. Unless you’re stupid enough to think people on food stamps live a steak and lobster lifestyle, you know you have to stretch every dollar and $20 for a character isn’t even close to reality. It was a hard adjustment not being a completionist when the Shelbyville set was released but it couldn’t happen. Fortunately I was just reaching the point in my game when my spare funds dried up where I could farm doughnuts to still get it all. Honestly I spent nearly $200 that cursed Easter alone just to make sure I got everything. (Stupid Sherry Bobbins) so even though I no longer spend money, I feel I purchased a life long pass.
Then one day a character I have been ever so hoping for was introduced…for $20. I thought about not eating for a few days so I could get him but you know…food…
Today one new item. A mysterybox? I’ve never seen one of these before…Sven Golly!!!!! So glad I didn’t starve myself a few months ago!
Hello…I bought Sven Golly when he was 1st introduced & I get that it’s a pretty crappy thing to do to make it seem like a once in a game offer….but it doesn’t make me mad,,either. After all,,everything is subject to change-as they say. Good for you!!
I was at a time upset when I believe it was the necrinomicon, which I paid real $ for as an outrageously overpriced Gil deal was released at a huge discount, so, I get it. I got over it and so will everyone upset about Sven.
I never knew I could love the episode “You Only Move Twice” any more than I already do, until I received the Hammock District out of one of these boxes. It’s a huge building… but it’s glorious. I may have to use this weekend to finally rearrange the my town…
Did the first two parts of the questline as a small donut top up before Christmas but no intention of finishing it. I only had 3 boxes one of which I had no interest in and the other two I got the dilophosaurus for 15 donuts and then cafe cafe and some other building I forgot the name of for 50 each and cleared them out.
I’m very happy. The £48.99 (UK) deal is ridiculous, so ignored that, but was happy to drop a little bit, so spent on the 60 donuts + 2 tokens. Had 10 items in gold box, so with my 1 free, and the 1+5 tokens from the quest line I could grab 9 of them. Wanted Herb Powell for ages, and very happy to get. Very pleased to add Jessica lovejoy, Florence, Sarah wiggum and scratchy (rest a bit meh!). Then spent my farmed +60 bought donuts mostly on the women’s box. 15 new characters for a bit of farming and £4.99.
I think ea is out of their minds to expect us to pay $50 real money just to get monstromart, lard lad donut factory and the pile of shopping carts. Although I’m tempted to buy I’m probably not going to do it. With that amount of money I can get myself 2 pairs of lularoe leggings some lularoe shirts or a lularoe dress or a pandora charm with that money. My daily challenge today awarded me 3 donuts and I’ve already earned at least 6 donuts today without using real money to buy donuts or without a building that generates them every 24 hours. When they offer an item that you can get for the 300 donuts such as a building character or decoration that I’m okay with and I think that’s reasonable and not so terrible.
Do you think they will bring back the monstromart, pile of shopping carts or the lard lad donut factory anytime soon so that we can purchase it using in game donuts and not real money?

Did you get the total of 23 tokens (7 while buying the 900 donuts and then 16 in the quest line ) ?
Yeah i can confirm that, Just bought the 900 Donuts and i now have 23 Tokens. After the transaction the quest dialogs pop up one after another until you are through with the last one. And then, boom 23 Tokens (plus the free one everybody got)
I’m premium anyway and I don’t really care about anything in my gold mystery box so I can convert all those tokens into a dz donuts ea plus a decoration, 2 buildings, one of which generates 6 free donuts a day, over 2000 a year. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Suppose all I got was the factory, it would pay for itself in about 5 months, but with all those donuts, I’m probably golden until Presidents Day at least.
Much to Alissa’s anger about Sven being in a box…I took a shot on the chance I’d get him. It was going to be my one gamble, mostly because I only had 4 items in the Men Mystery box. So, 25% chance…rolled the dice…
…and I got him.
I am really, really confused by EA. Does this mean we’ll see other cash-characters in future mystery boxes? That’s kind of a rip-off to those that spent actual cash for him. Well, not “kind of.” It IS a rip-off! Why bother buying a limited-time character when you can wait for them to pop up in a mystery box!
And this is coming from someone who did purchase a character with cash (I got Hans Mechman).
Maybe not enough people purchased Sven, so they are trying to recoup their losses? Someone buys donuts in an attempt to get him and ends up spending more?

I recommend you don’t send sven on his 12 hr task. Almost every adult character can then be sent on a 4hr premium earning task at his tent over and over.

More than likely “no”. Those tokens will probably only be good for a few donuts. But I would wait and see just in case EA changes things up.
So, I don’t have a gold box and didn’t get a prompt to start the quest or a free token. I do see the quest in my list and the mystery boxes in the store. Anyone else have this problem?
Do you already have all the gold box items? I have all those items so wasn’t offered the gold box either.

I got the questline and the opportunity to get a token if I buy a dozen donuts.
If you have the donuts, Mystery Boxes are a good deal. I have been farming for months proactively preparing for Black Friday in anticipation that they would be doing the same thing they did last year…..so truthfully, I am in the happy camp this time around.
There are exceptions, but most items, especially building/character combos are a fraction of the “real” price if buying during an event (if they weren’t free then), via the vault, or just in the store. For example, I just got Springfield Coliseum and Tatum for 80 donuts which could have cost, what probably, around 150 donuts normally. Just that one sale saved me 70 donuts which I can use to get a second item.
Now if you don’t have enough donuts to clean out a box or to do enough times to get that one item you want……they suck.
So I see those who love it and those who hate it…….I bet they can be dropped into have enough / not have enough donuts buckets.

As far as the Lard Lad Donut Factory, I am NOT paying $50 for it. It would take 5 months to get ROI of 900 donuts. I do make it a point to use $20 real cash each year to support the game…….but I am not going to pay $50.
Maybe I don’t really get it… Does that mean that for 50 dollars, I will get the usual 900 donuts + 23 tokens (which means 23 premium items) + 3 items including one that delivers 6 donuts every day ? It seems like an instant buy to me !!!

If you’re a freemium player its a pass but if you buy donuts a few times a year, its probable the best time to do it. 26 premium items for 50 bucks + free donuts, its unheard in the game. Just waiting to see if we really get the 23 tokens
This is my opinion too. But I’m just unsure if you get all those tokens! If so I think this is a good deal.
But there are so many negative opinions about it I’m having second thoughts!
The thing is, you can get 6 donuts really easily buying bloodmobiles.
Are there 23 items in your gold mystery box? Because if you only have, for example, six items in your gold mystery box then you can only spend 6 of your gold tokens on premium items. The rest would have to go to more donuts.
I don’t know if this might work but if I spend the free gold token on a dozen donuts, would I get another gold token from the first black Friday prize since it wants 12 donuts purchased to get the token? If it does then in a way you could get 12 donuts for free.
I used a gold token to buy 12 donuts and it did not count towards the donuts that EA wants us to buy.
