Spending actual cash on donuts for a character is back in TSTO. This is something EA’s been rolling out over the last few years, and it’s a new bonus for actually spending cash on donuts. (instead of just farming them) Where they attach a premium, limited-time, character/costume/building/decoration/combo to one of the donut bundles sometimes in addition to bonus donuts.
And I want to be perfectly clear…you do not need to buy these characters to complete an event. You can still play this game, and complete all the tasks and prizes, 100% free. These cash-for-character items are a new type of premium currency…because donuts have been so devalued with donut farming.
This time around we’re being offered Big Baby Barney, a premium costume for Barney, and Lullabuy$, a new building for Springfield, for a tray of 132 Donuts ($9.99 in the US)..no bonus this time. While it’s hard for me to sit here and tell you if you should or shouldn’t spend actual cash on the game (spoiler, I think you should always spend at least a small amount…even if it’s $.99/year on the game if it brings you joy and you want to see it continue) I thought I’d do a quick breakdown of Lullabuy$ and Big Baby Barney, his tasks, questline and other details you may be curious about.
So let’s consider this an abbreviated Should I Buy….
So what is the deal? When you can find it in the Currency Tab of your Store (also by hitting Get More)…
Basically, spend $9.99 on a Tray of 132 donuts and you get the Big Baby Barney costume and the Lullabuy$ building.
And yes, for those outside of the US I know my price is probably lower than yours. EA only charges 9.99 USD for this package…anything over that that you are currently paying goes to Google/Apple/Amazon for Tax and Duty etc. EA only collects the 9.99.
And again, I’m glad EA went back to the $9.99 price point. Not thrilled it’s a costume, but I feel like the addition of the building makes it more worth it.

Big Baby Barney: Five bucks an hour, and all the expired baby food I can eat.
Homer: Mmm…expired baby food…I take back everything that I said! Putting on this baby costume just to get free food is genius!
Big Baby Barney: Also, this diaper has surprisingly good breathability.
Homer: You mean the diaper that raccoon just pulled off you?
Big Baby Barney: Hey, that’s company property. I’m still four payments away from owning it! Get back here!

That’s pretty much it on Big Baby Barney and Lullabuy$. A fun combo and in my opinion, worth the $9.99. I’ve already picked it up.

It’s a fun little concept, but not really a must have IMO. And I spent fairly recently. Haven’t made a final decision, but likely passing on this.
For ten bucks I’d be happier with a building + full character combo, but I might go for this. It’s about time I made a donation! What’s the animation on the building — or is there none?

No doubt a true legend taken away ….man he did some amazing work..so much. News Radio is still an all time favorite of mine. The episode where they took away smoking in the building…funny stuff..I urge everyone to look that up..early Joe Rogan…Stephen Root as Jimmy James was amazing. Andy Dick ….well he was great in this…believe it or not. Maura Tierney(?)..was good. And Dave Foley…gotta love Kids In the Hall..eh? Thanks for the reminder Mike.
It was a big loss that occurred in a horrific way. I was very affected by it at the time. This past week was also the anniversary of another (not Simpsons-related) death that hit me hard at the time, the loss of Jim Henson.
I’m still debating this one. Like the skin, like the building…but am wary of space. I still have plenty of room…for now…with the new land availed to us, but am worried about if any more new land will ever become available again. I’ve surely spent my fair share on this game…along with another town I lost about 6 or so years ago…so I’ll take a few more days to decide on this one.
skipping on baby barney. dont want to get it. for me its one of those not needed items that would end up in my inventory
I snapped this up right away. A good Barney skin and quest. Plus I’m happy to spend some cash now and then. If nobody spends anything the game won’t last much longer. Plus, it’s a good bonus to get a skin or whatever on top of the donuts.
