So, yes…the panic is starting to settle in. We are down to the final, final days of being able to access our towns.
I already laid out a couple of “graphic/screen capture” ways to save the basic town. But there is a way to do a video recording of your town, that captures the movement, sounds, and music for posterity. And let’s face it…without the sounds and animations…it’s just a picture.
As a couple of members (thanks Charles and Sandra) have pointed out, if you are using an iPad/iPhone, there is a simple onboard tool to do your screen grab… Here’s the link to the How To!

If you want to use “RecordIt” – Follow Along…
RecordIt: Screen Recorder is a very simple and easy to use tool you can use to do a screen recording of a “tour” of your town. I am going to lay out the basics…but again, be forewarned; this will take a LOT of STORAGE SPACE on your padular device- so clear before you start!

When you open the app, it is pretty much ready to go…but depending on how much storage you have, you may want to check the resolution (screen size) of the recording.
SELECTING AUDIO OPTIONS…And STARTING THE RECORDING
When the screen opens, you will see the START RECORDING BUTTON…

BEFORE YOU HIT THE “Tap to Start Recording” BUTTON…SET THE SCREEN RESOLUTION FOR THE FINAL OUTPUT!

I usually default to 1080…knowing that this is “hi-def” for most editing programs. The final output is a .MP4 file, which is standard for editing and creating higher end finished products.
Defaulting to “Auto” is another option- but I would not go below 720p, or you will not be happy with the final product!
When you have set the screen resolution- Tap the START Button, which will open another screen…

BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY HIT “START BROADCAST” (recording your screen),
Make sure your Microphone is turned on, if you want to also record commentary.
Hitting the START BROADCAST button Starts the Recording….
From this point on, just exit the program on the screen (It will continue recording everything you do)…and open up TSTO, Play Your Game…show off your town!
When you are done, Exit TSTO…Go Back to your RecordIt app, and hit STOP BROADCAST.
Your Recording will start playing as soon as it loads.
If you want to SAVE IT…When you click the SHARE RECORDING Button this menu will open (AFTER AN AD OR TWO…it is freeware, just exit the ads and continue back to this screen).

SAVE IT…and YOUR TOWN IS YOURS TO KEEP…As long as your Padular Device stays alive…or your Cloud Storage remains active and paid for.
Yes. It is a lot of work. BUT THINK OF THE YEAR/DAYS/HOURS you spent building your town…which is going to go “POOF!” after the 24th.
Hope this helps alleviate some of the stress!

Thank you, Patric! The recorder option on my iPad never worked, but Record It, with your instructions did! I’m grateful for your help and comments over the years!
Thank you for that and all your years.
I’m so sad… Though I understand the rationale and I’ve stepped away from.the game largely in the last 3 years (events too same-y) I had been playing since 2013. My daughter also was playing for awhile till she got locked out of her town. I did get my videos though my town redesign will never get finished. I wish we could just download the game so at least we could drop in and access our characters/ town or redesign.
I definitely want to capture the family in the snow globe. That always makes me smile around the holidays.
Thanks for the screen resolution tips! Experimenting with how much space a 20 minute monorail ride will take up. Plan on sending everyone on one last visual task, and then recording the ride through town, even the embarassingly incomplete parts. 🙂
Yeah…I did my town, slowly, and completely…in two parts. It took TWO 20 minute segments!Yikes!
But it MUST be done.
Struggling to find the super helpful list of flying tasks so I can send em all on those and document for posterity. Can you direct me the right way? Thanks!
I am now resigned to the death of my favorite game. I gave active mission to all my character. My children are playing. Homer is drinking, Luigi is making pizza, Rod is playing on the plank, Maude is haunting the town and God is ad vitam aeternam opening the heaven doors.. They will soon live in the Venelop world. I would like to thank all my new town friends for adding me. It was fun. I am sad.

Pity the game wasn’t coded with an offline mode and playable 🤔
I tried this app and liked it. The editing tool was easier for me to use than in my iPhone photos.
After the trauma of recording my town by hand with my iPhone, I discovered that my Kindle actually has a screen recorder pre-installed on it. I took a few videos and now feel that I’ve done everything that I can to preserve my town. I’ll probably take a few more recordings if there are any tasks or specific areas that I want more detailed videos of.
I know this may sound ridiculous but part of my Fourth of July tradition, along with eating too many hamburgers and watching Mel Gibson brutalize Red Coats in The Patriot, is having a fireworks show at my Squidport. To preserve this tradition, I broke out my Fourth of July decorations and did a show last night so at least I can have that memory of Springfield USA.
