With Halloween being broken up into different phases this time around, many of you are collecting all the prizes in each prize group faster than usual..and you’re left wondering what’s next? Well instead of EA leaving us dangling while we wait for the next phase to hit they’ve introduced the Prestige Bonus.
The Prestige Bonus will pop up for you once you’ve collected all of the prizes in the Probe Prize Box (remember the Donut Torture Device is the last one in that box). It’s your incentive to continue earning Probes…even though you’ve already cleared the prize box.
For every 750 probes collected you’ll earn a Silver Treat Bag!
Silver Treat Bags you can use to help you craft more items in at Make-A-Thing! This can help give you a head start on the items EA will add down the road….
Quick Tip: Remember if you’re close to your goal when visiting your neighbors and you hit and the counter will not rest back to 0 until you return back to your Springfield. So you’ll still earn the Silver Treat Bag, but any probes you get after that (if you don’t return to Springfield right away) will not count towards the bonus. So make sure if you’re awarded the Prestige Bonus while out visiting neighbors, return to Springfield right away before collecting more Probes.
What do YOU think of the Prestige Bonus? I know it’s not donuts, but it’s only phase 1…you never know what EA will have as a bonus for phase 1 and 2. How are you doing on your Probe collecting? Ahh, for new moe quest you have to squish rigilleans to randomly find moe’s clothes.
Also, for those trying to get the donut torture device, a new rigillean pops up every 5 minutes, so in 1 hour you get a total of 12 rigilleans to squish. I think I calculated from day one of this probe challenge, you would have to squish 192 per day to get 575 probes a day to reach the last prize in time. If you visit neighbors and squish or release gremlins, it goes a lot faster. I was getting over 1000 probes a day, but I play TSTO OCD style;)
And you do need homer free to start this mini update
So what is the maximum rigilleans in a town at any given time? If one pops up every 5 min, when (how often) do I have to ‘clear’ them to allow more rigilleans to be produced? I’m now worried I will miss out.on the torture device :'(

Got my donut torture device yesterday and *spoiler*
It takes up Homer for a quest that lasts 1d 12hrs…but now I just got the Moe mini update where you have to help Homer find new clothes for Moe. But I’m at a loss of how to find the clothes. Do we need Homer free or do we find clothes with random taps on things? If I need Homer, well, that’s gonna’ have to wait because he’s occupied with the torture device (and if I need Homer, why does EA always have overlapping quests?). Any thoughts? Haven’t seen anything describing this new mini update on the interwebs.
Tie ins are very common with THOH episodes. They did it last year too. Got Strongman Homers outfit then.

I can’t seem to work out what I’m doing wrong. All my friends are close to getting the torture device but I’m only half way there although I play 3-4 times a day. How is everyone getting their probes so fast?
Speeding. Rigellian License. More kids to trick or treat. LOTS of variables in it.
I’m the same.. Noticed that not everything is getting counted for with the the treat bags,had 3 pumpkins only saw it go up by 1, was wondering if all probes have been getting counted since I’ve been playing 3x a day plus everything else that has been recommended. Starting to get fed up that I can’t craft and just got the turkey this morning.. Everyone else is ready for next wave lol glad I’m not the only one struggling tho!
Play every 1.5 hrs and squish aliens that have accumulated. At 3 times a day, you’re missing out on 300-600 probes per day. If you’re working, take a bathroom break and squish. lol.
I don’t agree with some of these other comments, you can make it without any of those things.
If you log on every 6h 40m you get to squish 80 aliens, that’s 240 probes. If you time your sleep well you can get 288 aliens per day, that’s 864 probes per day. Plus if you visit 30 neighbours you’ll get another 90. That’s even without sending kids out trick or treating. But if you do, you’ll get a few extra in your goody bags and if you’re lucky enough to get ammo you might get some more probes for shooting down spaceships.
But even without neighbours, and even without any goody bags you can still get 864 probes. More than enough to get ahead of the daily schedule.
I too am holding bags (and gremalien eggs and ammo) until the switch over, now that I have the Donut Torture Device. It’s a risk, because I don’t actually know what will happen with them when the rollover happens, but it would be great to have a head start on ray guns. It’s only been a day and I already have 50 or so bags saved.
Even so, just tapping Rigellians and Grem-Aliens in my Springfield I have already hit the prestige bonus once.
And yes, I would have passed the Marshmallow Test.
I see that many people are hoarding, bags, ammo and eggs for future phases. My thinking is that our eggs and ammo should be safe, but that the contents of the bags might already be set when they are first collected. So you won’t be able to use them to get Ray-guns or DNA strands. maybe there will be a glitch or something.
So I for one am opening my bags. I’ve received a Regilliean Shrub and two human test subjects, but am still trying to find a spooky wall in a bag so I can save the treats to crafts other items.
I also want to be able to build the Spook house as soon as possible because I heard that it will give you a bronze bag every 24hrs.
What are other Tappers thoughts on using the items vs. hoarding them?
It is experimental for the first rollover, true. But I’m not actually concerned about not getting enough ray guns for phase 2 so I’m willing to risk it to see how it works. It’s all about getting to UBO for me. 14k currency is going to be a bit of a stretch, I think. So I want a plan in place on day one of phase three to achieve that.
SoRefined, I agree that phase 2 with the Rayguns, should be easy for many of us, but yes getting the DNA strands to achieve UBO in the final stage is going to be a stretch. I opted not to get the license so I think it will be close.

So I might be in tapping fatigue but just a couple of minutes ago a new task opened for Homer to Help Find Moe Clothes or something like that….I, alas, tapped through pretty quickly since I’m between meetings and didn’t catch it all….

I think that the Donut Torture Device is awesome. (Just downloaded in my game with my lvl 45 game)

tappin’ hard trying to complete 1st phase. Only problem is every time I get close to finishing a round of tapping, I get kicked off to Bart screen “cannot connect to server”. It keeps happening over and over and I have to keep redoing the same stuff. I’m on my fifth round in 5 minutes. Had the gremalien issue too! Starting to think I’m not going to make the cut.
Not just you. I am right there with you- I finally gave up when I noticed that all of the random award stuff truly was and it was making me sad seeing all the things I **could** have had. One time tapped and got 6 eggs and 3 treat bags.. next time 1 egg and 0 bags etc, more and less each time etc…..and re-tasking everyone was a total bummer.
I also just noticed probe count niot adding to total is it still worth complaining and niot far from donut machine good event so far keeping me interested ps thanks for all your info really helpful

I think this is a good idea; however, I’m not putting much effort into getting them because I have an over abundance of the items in the silver bags, like over 500 of each. What I need are bronze and gold bags… of course 🙁

The Silver Treat Bags are a nice touch. And making them be awarded at 750 probes seems mighty fair, especially considering how many free 50-probe sets I’ve gotten from shooting down spaceships in my friends’ Springfields.
It definitely helps keep me interested in playing even after getting the Donut Torture Device.
Was is the point of the Leaderboard? Also, is it possible for someone to have 12 pumpkin houses legally? Thanks for the tip to go back to Springfield before continuing visiting friends. Loving Halloween! Mary Jo

The benefit to not opening treat bags right away is that, if you’re on track to earn the donut torture device without the probes contained in treat bags, then you might as well save them until phase two and get the new currency out of them instead. I hadn’t considered the possibility that unopened bags might be taken away prior to phase two commencing though. Any thoughts on this?

I’m only 600 probes from the donut snatcher. I havent been sending out grem-aliens to my neighbors because I wasnt getting credit. Now I have 60 sitting waiting any word on if the glitch has gotten corrected? I dont want to waste any more.also just started the Hugo quest. I am really loving this halloween.
No word yet. I assume a patch is coming.

I feel so far behind! I have been playing diligently since day one and I’m still about 1,500 probes behind where I ‘need’ to be in order to get the donut torture device. I’ve already purchased the hunting license and added more friends but I’m still coming up short. 🙁 I guess I’ll have to spend donuts to get it when it becomes part of Build A Thing – because that’s something that I HAVE TO HAVE for my town. 🙂
Just hit the Prestige Bonus. I’m glad we’ll still be awarded something for the rest of Phase 1. I’m working through the Hugo tasks and saving to craft the pumpkin and spooky house!
Getting more “treats” which can be collected towards getting prizes is more ideal for me as I cannot play as often during the day to consistently meet the recommended quota of probes (et al).
Thanks for the go-back-to-your-Springfield-before-you-get-jacked tip! It is great that there is still an incentive in this event versus the CoC keep raiding for bragging rights…although I must say, it is a nice souvenir to see Homey’s castle at level 61, etc.
Im about 2000 probes away, but my charger broke yesterday and can’t get a new one til Saturday 🙁 As a freemium player I’m not sure if ill be able to get it in time :/

I noticed how I am collecting probes in my neighborhood one moment and the next I am only getting $$$. Going back to my hood does nothing to fix it either. I have to wait till the next day and then it repeats itself. Anyone have any idea why?

I think Im gonna try hordeing treat bags until the next phase. If I earn any additional treat bags from the bonus, it will just be from clearing aliens. Hopefully, EA doesn’t clear them, but if they do, oh well. I think I’ll still have enough time to collect ray guns.
But as long as the fences, eggs, gummies, pumpkins and chocolates are still the currency for the event, does it matter when you open them? I’m hoarding my Grem Alien huevos until the last phase…Phase two should be doable and, hopefully, I get the UBO early and then can stock up on all the extra Halloween goodies.
Probes, and I’m guessing ray guns, are also randomly placed in the treat bags. I think AnarchyReigns’ strategy (which is mine too) is to wait and open the treat bags after the 20th so they can be spawning ray guns instead of probes. Does that make sense? Horde treat bags, grem-alien eggs and anti-UFO ammo until the new currency is released. With almost 15,000 Long Protein Strings required for the U.B.O., I want to save up and maximize for the next currency when I’ve achieved all of the personal prizes. The fences, eggs, gummies, etc. will be just as valuable on Nov 20th when I open them but the probes will not.
Does this make sense to anyone else? Is it a viable strategy?

The only thing I can think of is that you get lots of probes in treat bags; if you wait until phase 2 maybe those are ray guns instead.
I’m in no way a computer programmer (I’ll defer to Addict geniuses like Alyssa, Bunny & the Dub) but it would seem to me that the random generator in the programming identifies what is in the bag when achieved. If you wait until probes are no longer good, you lose out…but in the meantime, you can use those probes to get more bags and possible sprinklies…Seems like I am better off to try to get those donuts and possible ammo for the later stages.
@SavedImage And my 2cents as a programmer is no, the contents of the bags shouldn’t be decided already the moment you get them. Who knows how many bags people might choose to hoard (I know I have a LOT by now) so if their contents are already set that could take up a lot of memory. I’d get points knocked off in an exam for a design decision like that 😀 If things were like that, the bags would automatically open the moment you got them.
I of course can’t be certain but I say hoard away!
