Happy Veteran’s Day from the Addicts!

Simpsons MilitarySimpsons Military 2

Hey hey hey Addicts!

Wookiee stopping by from an extended absence to wish a Happy Veterans Day from Alissa, Bunny and I to some of the most Amazing. People. Ever.  As a veteran of the U.S. Air Force (14 years as a flight medic woot woot), Alissa seems to think I’m best qualified to say a special thanks to all the veterans of the military that read this site.  I don’t know about all that but I truly am appreciative of all the prior and current members of the military.  I hope today is a great one for all of you.

For Simpsons nerds, any mention of the military probably makes you nostalgic for the Fighting Hellfish, Rommelwood or Herman’s Antique Store.  I love seeing the military in my favorite show even if sometimes it’s satiric.  As a history nerd, I have to point out that November 11th was originally Armistice Day.  On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the Great War (aka WWI) ended when the armistice between Allied Powers and Germany went into effect.  In 1954, the United States changed this federal holiday to Veterans Day to honor people who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.  In other parts of the world, it is still know as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day.

If you know a vet or are one yourself, don’t forget to enjoy some of the freebies that come with the day.  A quick Oogle search can show you all the goodness you can enjoy.  I myself plan on getting some free grub at a couple places and a delicious cup of Starbucks coffee.  From the bottom of my heart, I personally thank all veterans for their sacrifices so others may enjoy their freedom.  I know there are good days and bad but definitely know my happiness comes at a continual price from dedicated men and women.  Please know this applies to both U.S. servicemembers as well as other nations.  Much love from the fuzzball.

Please chime in below if you have any of your own personal thoughts or thank yous you’d like to share.  We love hearing from you and I’d love to know any of our vets here on Addicts.  TTFN… Wookiee out!

Thank you to all of the veterans and service members for being “the brave”. You guys are so selfless and courageous. Happy Veterans Day!

  2. Hello from your allies here in Australia.Happy Veterans day

  3. Wow, nice to see all the Veterans that are here – thank you for your service! Best Wishes to all (former & currents) Veterans! And thanks for the history lesson – I’d almost forgotten that today was the original Armistice Day. Great to realize that so many people around the world are honoring all Veterens today.

  4. Thank you to all those who served for their country and those who still do. In an ideal world we’d live in peace and harmony but we don’t live in an ideal world unfortunately.
Spent some time earlier tonight prepping for my Guide meeting. We had a Remembrance Day themed evening and had some crafts planned too. I was really pleased at how well my Guides listened tonight and contributed when we were having a discussion about Remembrance Day and what it means to us. They did a minute’s silence at the end of the meeting and did well at staying silent.

    • Nessy – We always do Valentines for Vets at our Remembrance Day meeting. Last night we made our valentines, and usually I mail them off to Veterans Affairs, but this year we’re going to deliver them personally to the Perley Veterans Home (Ottawa, Canada). The girls are extremely proud and excited about this, and I couldn’t be more proud of them. And don’t forget that Guides served many extremely important wartime functions, including risking their lives to deliver top secret messages right to the front lines (they were more reliable than the boys!). Thank you to all who served, including my own father, and my grandfather, Wookiee, and the other vets on this thread.

  5. Appreciate your service, Wookie. My brother is currently serving & my son will be joining after graduation this May. Both Navy boys. Happy Veterans Day to all our military.

  6. Happy valentines day!

    Oh wait I misread :/

    Happy veterans day

  7. I served 15 years until I was wounded in combat. I agree Bunny there are good days and bad days. But I’m proud to have serve my country. If it wasn’t for loosing my leg I would still be out there fighting the good fight. Happy Veterans Day!!!

  8. Happy Veterans Day wookiee! Thank you for your service!!! I served 5 years in the US Army and two year long combat tours.

  9. Happy Veterans Day! Here in the UK today is still known as Armistice or Remembrance Day, and some people wear red poppies on their lapels to commemorate the occasion. My great-aunt Ivy was born on 11/11/18 and was named Ivy Armistice. Both she and her husband served their country in WWII. I remember her as well as our servicemen and women on this day.

  10. From Ottawa Canada many thanks to all vetrans and current members of our armed forces.
    Thank you

  11. Fair winds and following seas to all Veterans, past and present.
    Thank-You for your service.
    Go Navy…
and the Army and the Marines and the Air Force and the Coast Guard.

  12. Thank you for our lives. ‘Nuff said.

  13. This German salutes all the veterans bringing my country freedom from oppression. Thank you for your sacrifices, I am very grateful.

  14. Bart: I just think our veterans deserve a little recognition.
Lisa: That’s what Veterans Day is for, Bart.
Bart: But is that really enough to honor our brave soldiers?
Lisa: They also have Memorial Day!
Bart: Oh, Lisa, maybe you’re right, maybe you’re wrong, the important thing is that veterans deserve a day to honor them!
    Lisa: They have two!
Bart: Well, maybe they should have three. I’m Bart Simpson.

  15. Cheers, mate!
I grieve and grouse on Memorial Day — reliving bitter CENTCOM days and nights.
I celebrate on Veterans’ Day — victories and valor remembered!

  16. Wishing a happy veterans day to all my fellow soldiers. A special veterans day wish to my brother. RIP big bro.
