Episode Recap: Blazed and Confused

Oi oi oi… how y’all doing? One of the features we like to have on the site is Episode Recaps of the newest Simpsons episodes. Of course with all the holiday goodness, we’ve fallen a little behind and I aim to fix that over the next week or so. You can see previous recaps here.  Keeping with our goal to catch up, here’s a recap for Season 26, Episode 7: “Blazed and Confused”. I know some people prefer to watch these on their own so only click more if you don’t mind SPOILERS. I know everyone can’t watch them so sometimes reading them can be a nice replacement.  Also fun to see what others took away from an episode.  I read a bunch every week honestly.

Halloween Kang & Kodos missed Halloween because of stupid make-up and the Simpsons couch is a ski lift.

All the Princi-pals of Springfield School District are having a meeting and Supernintendo Chalmers apparently says all the principals last names like Skinner. They’re all there for the annual dance of the lemons where they all trade teachers. The lemons are sociopathic child haters who all have tenure. The teacher going to Springfield Elementary? God have mercy… Mr. Lassen.

He duct tapes students to walls, cuts himself, is left-handed and is pure evil. He served two tours in middle school and is also voiced by Willem Dafoe. Bart tries to prank him and fails? He even puts Smellson in his place. Uh oh… is he really going to cut Bart’s hair?

Wowza… this is one bad dude. At least Bart can forget his stupid haircut at the family camping trip. Wait… Homer didn’t reserve a campsite before Labor Day. Oh shoot. Marge is crying because she dared to hope and the pork chops look traumatized, the mashed potatoes can’t stand to watch and even the children seem upset. Maybe Homer can fix it?

Bart is still trying to prank Lassen and failing. Electricity is not a teaching lesson… even Smellson thinks it’s going too far. Bart is determined to get back at his new teacher and boy did The Hobbit teach the kids stuff. Bart finds out info on Lassen via a hidden camera and a fake Facelook profile for Miss Hoover.

Oooohhhhh… a cameo by Jason courtesy of Homer looking for camping sites.

Bart’s recon reveals that Jack Lassen attends Blazing Guy… a self-sustaining city that only appears three days a year. It combines nudity, dust storms, children and all-consuming fire. In a ritual dating back to 1986, the ignus sets fire to the blazing guy. Bar plans on ruining Lassen’s role as ignus to pay him back.

Bart adds his plan to fix Homer’s campsite issue and the family is off to Blazing Guy… a desert steampunk Disneyland lol. A world of anarchic free expression that includes cars shaped like cupcakes. Suffice to say the family sans Marge is all about Blazing Guy.

Good news, Marge gets some “calming tea” and all is well. It’s like someone ironed out all the wrinkles in her brain.

The Blazing Guy stuff is really funny and I love that xxx and his flaming tuba were included and joked about. Bart ends up wrecking Lassen’s big thing by spraying the Blazing Guy with fire retardant. Marge gets her amazing camping trip and Bart gets his revenge.

Lassen gets fired and goes where his talents will be appreciated… Springfield Penitentiary. The very last scene with Lassen and Sideshow Bob in prison is really funny. Now Bart has another sworn enemy and I’d love to see/hear Dafoe’s character in the future… too funny that SSB refuses to team up over who gets to gut Bart.

And that’s it for the episode my friends. My little ewok and I laughed pretty heartily throughout it. What were your thoughts?

  1. Probably one of the 30 greatest episodes of all time for me.

  2. I just have to say that I thought this episode was awesome! (Not to say all the other episodes aren’t awesome. Haha.) It reminded me of my favorite episode, with Johnny Cash, when Homer eats that Guatemalan insanity pepper and freaks out. I loved the artwork and how it just gets wild, weird and really creative. I might have to say that this is up there with some of my other favorite episodes! Hopefully they’ll do some more shows in the future where they’ll be a little off the wall like this one.

  3. My husband and I met him and his flaming tuba at blazing guy a few years back. Super nice guy with a super cool instrument.

  4. Could you do a recap of “The Simpsons Guy”?
