Addicts Weekly Open Thread

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Due to POPULAR request….we’ve moving up our open thread time so that our friends outside of the US can participate too!  Let’s get the conversation going!  Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long.  This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!

Now…enough rambling from me….it IS Sunday and you know what that means, right?  Time for another Open Thread!

Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING.  Just no Add me requests…those should go here.  We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.

So…here is your Open Thread.  The Simpsons are all new tonight, what will happen in the new episode?   How will our new episode tie-in items come into play?  We’re due for another TSTO update soon, either a level or Valentine’s Day, what do you think will hit?  What are you hoping to see?  The NFL Pro Bowl is on tonight, who do you think will win?

So chat about the Simpsons, TSTO, Update ideas, NFL or anything else you can think of!  Can’t wait to chat with you all, you know we LOVE hearing from you!

Have Fun!  And happy Sunday!

  1. So!??.? How did all you go in snowmageddeon!??!! I believe it was a fizzler for the most part, but was worried some of you may still have experienced difficulties….hope not…hope it plain sailing for all.
    Cheers, Julie.

    • Somewhat of a fizzle in NYC, but not here! I haven’t heard the final totals, but I think we got about two feet of snow. (The town next to us was over 30 inches.) My husband says some of it was up to his waist when he went out to shovel (drifts). Fortunately, no power outages, probably because it was very cold, so the snow was light and fluffy and didn’t really cling to any wires.

      • So pleased you are ok thru it and no loss of power.
How’s your dad by the way? Hope he’s ok now.
Went to OT today..have to wear rigid splint another two weeks and then go to softer more flexible spica splint. We were both shocked to see significant muscle wastage in my left thumb…so now lots and lots of strange wee exercises to build that back…I think it needs heaps and heaps more tapping exercises to be honest! Lol
        Glad you’re ok.
        Cheers, Julie.

      • Dad’s still in the hospital, and they’re ready to move him from ICU into a regular room, but there isn’t one available right now (or at least not as of yesterday evening). They’re waiting to set how much kidney function he regains and also want to do a bunch more tests on him. So it’s still a bit of wait-and-see…..Thanks for asking! 🙂

Sorry to hear about your weak thumb – you should definitely let it do the tapping for you lol! And I guess I’d much rather do thumb exercises than “regular” exercises!

  2. Couple cool Simpsons shirts over at
    http://popuptee.com/

Could we have a thread dedicated to sharing interesting Simpson finds on the old interweb?

  3. I just watched S 12, Ep 6: The Computer Wore Menace Shoes, and thought the islands we’ve just acquired could be a pretext to this episode and Homer could have things to investigate/solve while with the Island you could be whisked off to the place where people are banished, also with the whole numbers it has an odd ring of the Stonecutters so perhaps have some similar format…

  4. Ok, new thread, whom, anyone from history, do you look up to?
    Me, Leo the Vince 😉

    • Benjamin Franklin (he did more in one day than I’ve done in my lifetime AND he was funny!) and Queen Elizabeth I (intelligent, generally reasonable, and strong female monarch, at a time when women were generally NOT considered to be real monarch material)

    • Tesla, some day I’ll make my Tesla coil, slowly acquiring the materials.

      • OMG..you sound like my youngest son, Wings!! I was thinking of getting solar power on my house but he gave me the biggest lecture about wind generated power and somehow or other, I then had to listen to him explain all the intricate details of the tesla coil!! Lol….still think solar would be way easier for me!

      • Go Tesla, slightly nuts, but that’s why I like ‘im 🙂

      • Same here 😀 He was a mad genius. Plus, he was smart enough to walk away from the Montauk experiment after it went awry.

    • Isambard Kingdom Brunel is probably the person I look up to most from history. He built the SS Great Britain, Bristol Temple Meads Train Station, London Paddington Station, The Clifton Rock Railway, Clifton Suspension Bridge and a few other things too. Most of his work was done in Bristol or London. I’m a Bristolian by birth and grew up in the area. I have travelled over the suspension bridge and past the SS Great Britain countless times and they amaze me every single time.
Greatest historical engineer in my opinion, but I’m sure there are many others too.
Julie, you can’t go wrong with solar panels. My parents have it and even in our generally rubbish British weather, they still generate a decent chunk of electricity from it. It’s reduced their electricity bill by a lot and they also get paid 45p per kWh unused that they export back to the grid. They’ve had it 3 years now and have already paid off half of the initial costs just from the export payments.

      • Nessy, I live in Clifton and see his work almost every day. A true genius.
If you get a chance to go round the SS Great Britain, take it. It was waaay more interesting than I had anticipated, a feat of engineering that was so far ahead of its time that it is scarcely believable.
I’ve also seen the Plimsoll swing bridge in operation, an outstanding sight and the engineering is largely based on Brunel’s design of his swivel bridge back in 1849! A rare mind indeed.

      • My gran was from Clifton and my dentist is in Redland so I know that area fairly well. Surprisingly, I’ve never been round the SS Great Britain. Really should do it, it’s on my to do list. I’ve seen the bridge in operation before a few times.
I have a photo from a newspaper on my wall. It has Concorde flying over the suspension bridge on its final journey back to Filton. It completely sums up home for me.

  5. Just realising my vernacular colloquialisms might be obfuscating my intention. … will tone it down 🙂

    • Cube…the way I worked it out is the American EST time is about 15 hours behind me…16 hours for you……I am writing this at 2.30pm my time…3.30pm your daylight saving time…so I expect to see it posted as being about 11.30pm yesterday their time….well we’ll see how good I am when I click that post button!! Lol

  6. Also, Sandra, as I post it seems you are 8 hours ahead of me, backwards (in other words +8 hours -1 day 😉

    • If you’re in Australia, that doesn’t sound like anywhere near enough of a time difference…. I used to have a really good Web friend from there, and the time difference was much greater IIRC, like 14 hours for part of the year and 16 hours the other part (because we go in opposite directions with Daylight Savings Time). I’m in the eastern time zone (GMT -5?)… I think we’re currently EDT, but it’s possible we’re EST. At any rate, I’m in Massachusetts in the U.S., so it should be easy enough to Google up the time difference.

  7. I must admit, now that I have the chess game going, am more actively tapping in, goal achieved (ok, that was selfishly contrite 😉 Thank you so much Sandra, apparently a first for TSTO!
(Did I mention I am pretty c#$p at chess? I think too much :()

    • Thank you, Cube, for setting it all up! 🙂

By the way, do you have an actual (or pretend) first name that you’d care to share? (Feel free to say no!) It just feel a bit silly sometimes calling you a six-sided volumetric object! 😉 (Not really sure what the “3DEX” part means, either, though I have a feeling I’m gonna feel dumb for not figuring it out when you explain it…)

      • Weeeelllll, I have had the handle “Cube” from the old Bulletin Board days (remember those, before this interweb thingy. Yes, I’m that old :).
When I started gaming, amongst other things online, most sites needed 8 character usernames, and Cube was usually taken, so I came up with Cube, 3d (basically cube again), and because i needed something else, something ex (tra :).
I have also managed to avoid associating me with my handle (knowing pootas from way back, still have my zx81, I utilise lottsa protection such as TOR, Truecrypt, etc…).
If we must can we keep it as Smith?

      • Oh, I’m an old bbs girl from way back, too! I also used to poke around the arpanet, looking for computers that still had the default password in place, so I could see if they had any interesting games on their system. I still have my Hazeltine terminal down in the basement and our Epson Equity II in the back bedroom (in case we need to access something on floppy disk 😉 ).

      • Matt (with two ‘t’s… not the mat you walk over 😉

You’re the only one that ever asked. ..

      • Cool you have an interest in old systems, I owned, refurbished, and temporarily maintained a combo VAX 11/750 and 11/780 system at my rental home (converting them to single phase was the least of my challenges, @ 18amps for the 780 I kept blowing fuses / circuit breakers ;).

  8. Just realised Gusieppe is a premium character now. When did that happen?

  9. Wow, just had a Sideshow Bob moment! He traversed my boardwalk and ventured up NW on a bee-line to Santa’s crash island, and promptly disappeared “inside”! Tried to screen capture it but had button-fail 🙁

  10. Okay, Cube – I made my first move! I almost forgot (it was late and I was mindlessly stress tapping because my dad, who’s in New York, was just carted off to the hospital)…I had done my first tap when I realized I was in your town, but, fortunately, I still had the two needed taps left! At any rate, for better or worse (did I mention it’s been years since I’ve played?), the game is afoot (as Sherlock used to say)!

Sorry it was so late – my neighbor visits have crept later and later…at some point, I’m going to have to put them off until the next morning to reset the clock, if you know what I mean. (As it is, I decided I had to do that already with my N through Z towns tonight.)

    • Awwwww hon! So sorry to hear about your Pa! I don’t really have a family but I understand everytime mates go through a crisis, they’re my family 🙂
And my move done, agree completely regarding the “TSTOslip”…

    • Hey Sandra…hope your Dad is ok. Pls keep us up to date.💐

I know exactly what you are saying with these visits….I think a midnight reset is the best option for us all…it would so help.
Good luck with the game against Cubey…I’m so torn…do I barrack for the fellow Aussie…or do I go with girl power??.? Lol

Cubey…speaking of the game…I’m sorry…I just flew thru my visits…and I think I may have crash landed on your board..if I did…please, please, PLEASE forgive me!!…and did I win if I did?? Lol….I think I was just above the board…well I hope so…o’wise….sooo soooo sooooooooooooo soorrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy! Do I sound genuinely remorseful?
      Cheers guys, Julie.

    • And by-the-by, this was posted at 3:12pm, AEDT I’m pretty sure it’s called, not even knock-off-o’clock 🙂

      • Are you on daylight savings Cubes?…we don’t have it up here thank Heavens…got enough sunlight to do us…it is light here at 4.30 am and dark at about 7.30 pm in summer…so don’t think we need any more of it! …it is currently 4.40pm..AEST..so that would be 5.40 daylight savings time…eastern Aussie times. Lol.

      • I never bother telling, but I’m on the Eastern seaside of Oz, basically on the same line as you, so same zone 🙂

      • Turns out yes, I regularly follow ABC24 news and find out yes, there is a daylight savings change by one hour, even though we are on the same line! Weird, but hey, that’s the great Oz for ya!

  11. I want the Mr. Burns balloons that briefly showed up when Bart and Lisa were in the car as the drove up to the plant. They’d be a great TSTO decoration.

  12. Well, the surgeon’s office called to cancel my Wednesday consult (not entirely unexpected, even though the storm should be over by Wednesday morning and my appointment wasn’t until mid afternoon). Fortunately, it’s been rescheduled for Friday, which I was hoping to take off anyway, as a comp day for working all day this past Saturday. (Plus, it’s not as far down the road as I was afraid a reschedule would be.)

The problem with my work team all having laptops and remote access and such is that there’s no such thing anymore as “snow days” of of work. (OTOH, without all of that technology, I’d have to be out on long-term disability, which would mean a significant reduction in income, so, in the end, I’m better of having to work during the storm!)

    • Best of wishes for Friday, unless they make you wait some more (the medical industry, make us wait, never!)
      Er, your move?
      (Either side 🙂

  13. So far not much snow here! Anyone in the PA/NJ area seeing much? Do we really expect the huge snowfalls they’re predicting? Gotta say I was a little disappointed to see the lack of snow when I peeked out my blinds this morning. I’m due in to work at 1:00, the roads are clear now but what about later? Debating calling out. I wish they would drop the V-day event on us today. That would be a good reason to stay snowed in.

    • Won’t see the bulk of it until tonight into tomorrow. It’s snowing here but not heavy yet. However they’re calling for 2-4″ per hr starting around 9-10pm tonight. (at least here…but I’m only 30 min from NYC) So I do think we’ll see #snowmageddon when we wake up tomorrow (and it’s not supposed to stop until around 1pm tomorrow afternoon)…today it’s not too bad. The calm before Juno 😉

My in-laws are outside of Philly (Collegeville) and say it’s not too bad, but they’ve already lost power. 🙁

      • Oh no, I hope your in laws are safe and have back up! After watching the press conference with Gov Christie and the radar showing that my area is basically smack dab in the middle of the “you’re screwed” zone I decided to not be driving home at 9:45 tonight and stay here and enjoy a home brew and Mario Kart instead.

        • They should be ok, the power outage is because of an accident early this morning. So we’re hoping they get it back up before the storm gets worse. Fairly certain the hubby and I will be curled up in the house tomorrow (although he’s so fidgety he’ll probably be outside shoveling snow every hr).
Funny about the Home Brew, we just did a batch a couple of weeks ago! 2 more weeks and then we can bottle.

          • What’s the brew? The one I’m having today is a Belgian dubbel and we’ll be bottling a nut brown ale in about a week.

            • We did a German Altbrier (we also did a batch of wine, Pinot Noir). We used to do them once a month or so, but we took about a year off cause it got to be a lot. So we decided we’ll get back into it slowly. I remember doing the Belgian dubbel in the past. Do you guy go to Keystone Home Brew for your kits?

              • Ooh wine! How’s that? The Altbrier I’m not familiar with, what’s it similar too? We go to this place called Wine, Barley and Hops that’s really small and the guy puts his own kits together. I’ll check out the Keystone Home Brew though! Once a month is a lot of beer if you’re making 5 gallon batches. These two are the first we’ve done since moving into the new house and it’s hard to come up with 5 gallons of bottles! We’re having everyone we know save em up for us. Bottles are taking over my kitchen and basement! I said no more until we near the end of the second batch. Or get a kegerator. That could be in our future 🙂

              • Yes it was A LOT. But we end up giving 75% away. I know the feeling about the bottles…we actually have 4 cases full in our basement that we’re going to be getting rid of though (if you lived close I’d happily give them away). We switched over to 1 liter EZ Close bottles…which makes life so much easier. Although it’s really hard to get them all back!
Before my husband moved to NJ we used to go to Keystone all the time, but now we go to this great place in Jersey called Love 2 Brew. The guys are great there and they also make their own kits (or they’ll help you create your own custom brew). We get the wine kits there too.
Wine is SUPER easy! Just take a lot of time. But it’s basically grape juice in a box that you have to add stuff to. The downside is there are 2 Fermentation processes and then a 3rd clearing process…but the wine is always really good. We made our first batch for our wedding & people were asking for more.

      • I tried home brew from my cherry plums, turned out a bit like a mild merlot flavour, and continued for a few years until one batch I did we think had a, er, “rogue” bacteria…
One drink and you were serious fairy watching… I don’t do home brew anymore 🙁

        • lol perfectly safe…if you follow the instructions 😉 Have to be REALLY careful about sanitizing otherwise the bacteria will spread like wildfire.

      • For sure! ‘member I’m an Ozzie, we are supposed to maintain a .049 level permanently 😉 That year we used what we thought were sterilised protein powder vessels, the big tub ones… I think some slightly unfriendly proteins / bacteria decided to “flavour” our brew… Ah well, we all slept well and have some colourful memories!

      • I have gone into business, in education, but I think my reputation might be slightly tarnished if I started selling “hallucinogenic hom brew”!

      • Ok, not drunking cerruntly, stoopif spleell checker!
        HOME, not hom!

  14. Is there any way to get a list of your recent donut purchases (not purchases of donuts, but items in the game you bought with donuts). I don’t really keep a close eye on my donuts but I was quite sure I had roughly 250 more than it’s showing now and I don’t recall buying anything. I don’t have any screenshots or other evidence to back this up – and I might even be wrong – but I don’t think so….. Is there anything I can do to clarify this?

  15. I simultaneously like & hate this game. I can only get in maybe 30-40% of the time I try to open it. Otherwise it is the Bart retry screen. Makes it frustrating to get characters off completed tasks, especially ones the game assigns. I usually try to break up visiting neighbors into 4-5 shifts throughout the day since it takes so long and it totally throws a wrench into that.

I hope Valentine’s brings something interesting, hopefully Ralph & Lisa based. Or Mindy chasing Homer, Moe chasing Marge, no one chasing Patty & Selma.

tonflo1 (neighbor list close to full)

    • My Bart screen was reduced when I clear my cache often and also ensure that I have excess memory. Then the internet connectivity plays a part too. But yes, during some events, the Bart screen seemed to increase.

  16. To all my neighbours (I will be posting this in the vacation section as well):

I know I have been lax. I have lost a lot of desire to play the game. But that could be that things picked up at work (silly work) and I have been doing insane hours. On top of that, I have an upcoming vacation! I leave in 4 days! I canNOT wait. I finally see my sister for the first time in over a year. And we will be looking for some alligators.

I am taking my game with me, but I am not certain how much I will be able to play. I will endeavour to hit up my town at least twice a day to clear handshakes, but beyond that? Not certain.

  17. Happy Australia Day to all of the Aussie Tappers out there!!
    Cheers – Gailyn aka gpikky

    • Amen to that. Happy Australia Day from Koalafornia.

      • I seem to be an attraction to all things native, thankfully except snakes:)
Probably was the non-native bee, definitely the paper wasp (European unwanted import!), but bugger those jumping-jack ants were everywhere!

    • Well thankee ver’ much Cobbers! Bonds of yous to acknowledge us! Lol Koalafornia huh Wookie? Not the evil critters Bart stirred up with his dang frog I hope! We have a colony of the cute cuddly ones here, so when you all come visit me…I’ll take you koala spotting…and emu spotting and roo spotting and best of….bloody big snake spotting!! Lol we Bly have three types of poisonous snakes here…so not too many to watch out for! 😜😝😜😝

      • Sounds like three too many, for me!

      • OMG Rosebud?? 24inches of snow?..isn’t one inch supposed to equal 10 inches of rain??….or is it the other way around??…still a lot of that white fluffy stuff to plow thru! And I believe it sets pretty hard after a bit?…cos if you roll up your snow balls too much it’s like hitting someone with a rock???…I do seem to remember hearing these things along the line.
O please do stay safe guys….it’s th
It’s the electricity/power that I think of with you cos if you’re blocked in wth snow, then it would be like being in a freezer…nice for me at present, but not for you guys! HAH…in our really really ICE COLD winter…if I get so cold I can’t warm up, I go for a long hot shower to thaw out! You guys wouldn’t have that option cos you’d be icicles coming out of it!
Sandra…our technology is a blessing and a curse…yes, you can work from home even if you’re snowed in…but if power goes off…your heater won’t work! It’s six of one and half dozen of the other, isn’t it? I do hope all goes well for your consult on Friday…it is great they were able to reschedule you so soon…although most specialists here, leave appts free each day to cater for situations such as this, or emergency calls so they don’t end up working till midnight each night.
I’m used to the power outage here living in such a storm prone, and cyclone prone area, but it’s not iced up when that happens..so I’m not sure how’d I go with the cold added to it.
Etamni….I confess…..I cheated!! I typed that up on my little PC…then copy and pasted it to TSTO addicts page! Lol…I have tried to do bold and italics but my little iPad won’t co-operate…and TSTO addicts reply area has nowhere to allow me to do it either, so I decided….GOTTA CHEAT!!!! Lol
Wilsojl….don’t you burn yourself out too much before your hols!! Relax and enjoy them!!…start getting in the mood….got a grass skirt? Hawaiian print shirt? Not sure how your workmates would view you turning up to work dressed like that, but your boss may be inclined to give you extra time out! Lol
        Cheers all…Julie

      • Bonza!! Bonza!! Not bonds of yous!! Bonza….means really really really good!! Lol
Three too many Sandra?? But there’s a lot of grass between snakes!!…like there’s a awful lot of ocean between fish! Lol

      • And ONLY ….only three types…dang splint!! Lol

      • At the San Diego Zoo (about an hour or so from me and also another “park” I have an annual pass for) they redid their koala area (I understand it’s one of the best) and that’s what they named it. Seemed an accurate description of my locale for my Aussie tapping friends. Hope Australia Day was great for all.

      • Hehehe, only three? We have the friendliest fauna here in Australia, I’m pretty sure that out of the 12 most deadliest we have 11 of ’em 😉 In my neighborhood, we get Tiger, Brown, Black, Copperhead and Whip 🙂 Regularly having the council to collect Browns and Blacks…
Gotta watch out for those Drop Bears too!

      • Cubey…I tried to send Wookie some drop bears to give to EA last year, but he declined!! Not sure why! Lol.
We got taipan, Eastern brown, Mulga, tiger and death adders here…so I was wrong…not three,….it’s five…but still a lot of grass between em. Lol. Plus we have numerous grass varieties…and tree varieties, and of course we have the good old pythons and carpet snakes as well…..so don’t know what Sandra is worried about….it’s those dang spiders that keep me alert!! Lol
We don’t have snake wranglers out here, so I have my plaited six foot long wire hanging by the back door if any suicidal ones come by…and then I also have another wire hook that’s about eight foot long to hook em out of tiny spots so I can whoop em with the plaited wire….used like a whip..it breaks their spine, then they’re easy to finish with a shovel! I mean…they find committing suicide easier with the shovel then! It’s illegal to kill snakes here!! Ah the joys of living in Oz! Lol.
Australia Day was so hot! Honestly Wookie…I’d love to send some of this heat to everyone affected by the snow, but they’d get flood bound then! O’wise…lovely quiet day before all our kids….and some of our Aussie neighbours (😉 at Cubes)…go back to school for the new year! I think every mother in Australia is down the pubs today! Lol back to school parties everywhere!….who needs Tupperware parties when we can celebrate the return of the school year! Lol🎉🎉🎊🎉🎉🍹🍻🍸🍷🍺
So pleased to hear our little koalas have found a nice place there…are you allowed to pet them? In some places here you can hold them, but not in the wild…they don’t like humans overly much! Not sure why with our track record with animals!

      • Not the fondest of spiders, then again have been bitten by so many natives its a bit hard to tell which are the worst. … I should point out I used to live in the Dandenong ranges (I was around 8 when Ash Wednesday hit…). Even though i have not received a snake bite (watch and warned enough as a youth) everything else had a go, the worst up there so far for me has been Wasp, Jumping-Jack {seriously, these guys actually chase you enmasse and fricken hurt!), and then Native Bee 🙁 ) Thankfully I have only been bitten by a few Huntsmens …

      • And that’s with a respectively high pain tolerance…. had many, many things attack me, both from nature and from my own doing 😉 Apart from the 3 cars trying to demolish me as a pedestrian / cyclist, the worst had to be falling from a 15 metre pine tree, but have never broken a bone thankfully apparently due to my copper imbalance:))

      • I kid you not Cubes…we got huntsmen up here the size of bread and butter plates! Don’t know if they hurt when they bite, cos when I see em… I usually go extremely pale, hyperventilate, make strange noises like a strangulated duck and get the hell outa whereva they are!! Lol. Gimme a snake any ol’ day! At least they are sorta predictable…if ya miss, ya get bit…but spiders…they run all over the place and then disappear…usually up the pant leg, or sleeves or dress skirt! Awful beggars!
I think you got bit by a feral bee…our native bees are the sweetest wee things…don’t sting at all…tiny little back bees and make the bestest honey in the world!!…feral bees…..OMG!! They hurt like hell….especially if there are citrus trees in blossom!…it makes their venom more potent! I turned allergic to bees cos I’ve been stung so many times by feral bees. Almost as bad as spiders! lol…..
Jumping jacks?? Are they an ant you have down there? I wonder if they are the same as the ants up on the Atherton tablelands….they’re just called jumping ants as far as I know up there, but my Mum was attacked a few years ago when fire ants were first discovered here, and she said it was very painful and so was pleased it wasn’t fire ants as they are more painful apparently.
And yeah the great old wasp!!….paper wasps are the worst…so tiny you don’t see em till they’ve gotcha! Rotten things….but hey, we’re living in a lucky country! Lol. We have heaps of those great big orange and yellow hornets as well…..yeah….lovely place….scenery is gorgeous! Lol

  18. Sincerest apologies to all my neighbours….have been getting the Bart Screen so much today that I haven’t been able to visit my neighbours in 2 towns….very remiss of me, I know! I will hopefully be back in those towns in the morning to get the visits done!…just added new neighbours too, and asked for people to visit me daily!!!! and now I can’t even do that on the first day!!! tsk tsk!!

To all of you in the snow affected areas…..
    ✿*•.。. ☆•*¨*•.¸¸❤¸¸.••*¨*•♫♪PLEASE STAY SAFE♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸❤¸¸.•*¨*•☆.。.•*✿
    THINKING OF YOU ALL.

    Cheers, Julie.

    • Thanks, Julie. I am in the 24+ inch area.

    • Thank you, Julie! Looks like it’s going to start around midnight tonight, with most of the no-visibility blizzard conditions overnight, so it will be interesting to see what things look like when I open my blinds tomorrow morning.

Getting ready to charge up all of gadgets, etc. and we have a gas stove for cooking, but no way to really heat the house without electricity (our house is oil-heated, but the burner requires electricity to fire) and pretty cold temps expected for the next several days, so fingers really crossed we don’t lose power.

The person I really feel bad for is my husband…we usually share the snow shoveling duties, but, in my current condition, I won’t be able to help him this time around. 🙁

    • Nice use of special characters, Julie! :O

I’ve been a bit remiss in some of my visits too — I think it’s just event burnout and the fact that if I’m late getting started one day, it forces me to be late every day after that. Elsewhere, I’ve suggested a 22-hour instead of 24-hour clock on visits, and others have suggested a 23-hour clock or simply resetting at midnight each day — EA should listen to these suggestions.

      • You are not the only one Etamni / Jules… Simpson burnout is a frequent and reoccurring challenge 😉
Best wishes to all, tap you soon!

      • Yup… have been recovering from Simpsons Burn out.

I do like the idea of the clock resetting at midnight. I am like you: one thing throws off the tapping schedule, especially during an event, and it is a challenge to remain on that schedule.

      • Yes, yes, yes! I’ve wanted that 23-hour day, too – when I used to play Farmville, they had that and it helped so much with the “time-creep” factor.

Can you add that to Wookiee’s wish-list thread, if it’s not already there? I may have already added it to the one in the EA forums, but I can’t remember for sure…

      • @Sandra — Yep, the 23-hour version is already on his list and at least one of the comments included the midnight version as well.

      • I was thinking of a 20 hour clock, like in the Family Guy game- it works out very well.

      • Agree tjbmurph!

      • I don’t understand how the midnight one would work…midnight where? I don’t know that they can make it all relative to the user and, if not, then you would have to have some pretty dedicated tappers (or real night owls) playing in one half of the world. Plus, even if they could make it relative, what would happen if I started a 16-hour task at, say, 6pm? When would it end? Would I have to wait an extra day?

The shortened day seems simpler for me to wrap my head around (even though it does take a little getting use to, calculation-wise).

    • For some reason, my reply to this lot of comments pasted to the comments above sorry. I didn’t realise that till just now!

    • Ironically here in Mich not too much snow this year. Very surprised.

  19. I wish EA would add Fat Tonys vehicles. I didnt get the limo that was around way back when. Then it changed to the DMV student driver limo. In my opinion that one isnt even close as cool looking as the first one.

  20. What a great weekend – excitement in the FA Cup with Bradford City beating Chelsea (going from 2-0 to 2-4! what a great result) and a trip to Hogwarts (aka the Harry Potter studio tour)

  21. And yes, I know the Queen / King combo is incorrect, just trying to workout layout and orientation, fixed now 🙂

  22. To my neighborinos, apologies for my absence, I have been coping with challenges the past couple of days.
TSTO Chess is now live, basically I have gone through all my buildings and the online lore (thanks TSTO addicts! 😉 and have come up with a playing field for chess that is self contained (within one Springfield) and allows for multiple games, with around a maximum 8 hour refresh of objects (kinda was restricted due to objects I have, I try to needlessly purchase stuff ;).
Rules follow chess, orientation denotes sides. The quickest refreshing items are relegated to the pieces (reasoning being that some moves are obvious / only so if a neighborino has “inadvertently” selected your move then you shouldn’t in some cases need to select your move location).
    The pieces are :
    Pawn = Brown house
    Rook = KwikEMart
    Knight = GulpNBlow
    Bishop = Krusty Burger
    Queen = Pink house
King = Simpson / Flanders house
(TSTO Addicts, I did email a board photo, could you please post the link below 😉
Select piece, then location piece, and I will swap the two.
Sandra Shill is my first opponent, if my neighborhood could avoid (I know it means less to tap…but it might mean more than a day or two between moves) the board I will try and be regular in my tapping visits!

    • Hey Cube!

I just looked at your board when I visited you. I might suggest using a consistent building for the empty spaces — such as purple houses — just to keep the board easier to read and follow….

      Looks great, though…

      • Cheers mate! I agree it’s a little jumbled, but I am a Freemium and a frugal one at that, also trying to demonstrate anyone can put together a game within a game fairly easily once they put their mind to it 😉 I have also tried to not compromise the TSTO game itself for my neighborinos, trying to find that best-of-both-worlds-balance (or bobwb, I am a Bobwobber by nature 🙂

  23. Maudlin Monarch.

For some unknown reason, I keep thinking that there will be some bonus added with the episode tie-ins. Something which will reward you for watching the corresponding episode. I can only think of the THOH—Clockwork Moe trivia question, but has this happened before?

  24. Hi Aimee, I love seeing how many Springfielders I can send on one task also. It’s fun watching the long line coming out of task!
My snow plow is standing by down here in sunny Florida for all you Northerns! I hope everyone is safe and warm through the storms, I’ll send you good sunny thoughts! Hope it’s not as bad as reports are predicting!

  25. Am I the only who gets excited when I’m prompted to send my springfielders all on the same task? I always send everyone I can…even if the task only requires 10 or 20 to complete. I get a kick out of seeing ALL the characters come out of one little building at once. Lol
Random, but surely im not the only one who does this… :-/

    • Ha yep I Too send nearly everyone to do the community tasks. It always amazes me just how many people come out after tapping that gigantic stack of yellow thumbs up. It feels so good to see all of them so close together at one time. You realize how much tappin’ you’ve done to get this far. It feels great. Like a huge accomplishment. Im proud of my ever changing town and love all my neighbors brilliant designs. Some beautiful that inspires me to do better. Some so cluttered yet some parts very unique and great design. We all have a great thing in common. Tappin’ tappin and playing fun!!

    • Hi Aimee I was trying to post a picture but no go.. Where I took a picture of all the thumbs up… I love it and I wish there were more

    • William Bergheimer

Yeah, I do it too. I also hope for that rare glitch that lets you send unusual characters. I had one a year ago that let me send jub jub on a group task…it tickles me when that happens.

      • I sent the lizards on a community task by accident — laughed my head off once someone here (Alissa, I think) reassured me I wasn’t the first to report it, and I’ve been watching for those opportunities ever since. In that case, it only worked when the task asked for a certain number of residents to do something, but I didn’t have that many available. When I clicked on the task (on the left side) after exhausting all my regular characters, it offered to send the NPC lizards on it — If I see it again in a future task, I’ll certainly post something about it.

    • Nope, you’re not alone. I love doing that 😀

    • I’m with you! The loooooong list of thumbs up is hilarious. Then everyone pouring out of the building is equally laugh inducing.

      • I used to have a neighbor who had a town that, every time I visited it, would have everyone (or nearly everyone) spilling out of the same building. I could never figure out how I was seeing that animation – he obviously couldn’t be tapping that building at the moment I got to his town (and certainly not for days upon days in a row)!

      • I have seen this as a regular occurrence in many neighborinos, off-occurrence-of (OOO) events. .. I have put this possibly down to maybe a possibility of (no hedging bets 😉 neighbor and owner both “Tapping-in”?

  26. I got 10 doughnuts in the Mystery Box this morning. First time that ever happened to me. My heart skipped a beat (in a good way) when I saw the message. 😃

  27. Am I the only one who watched tonight’s episode and heard in their head Homer asking “What the hell is this?” Did the Disney Channel write tonight’s episode? I honestly felt like this wasn’t even done by The Simpsons staff. What happened?

    • Why do you say the Disney channel wrote it? I thought it was a good episode, but then again I support electric cars and I am a fan of elon musk and a lot of his idea, so I might be slightly biased. Thanx and have fun.

      • The setup was just so absurd, not like The Simpsons, at least not what I’m used to. I know they do this from time to time, but the rush and overblown hysterics in the beginning just to setup one bad visual gag in the leadup to Elon’s arrival felt like an episode of every disney channel show aimed at tweens, or the more recent Halloween parodies. When Elon arrived, he instantly became Hannah Montana. This worked with Lady Gaga because of who she is, but Elon is not Mother Monster.

Who doesn’t love Elon? He’s bringing us Star Trek. Star. Trek. That is why I was so disappointed with this episode.

  28. Hey fellow tappers. The new episode just ended. Did everyone notice what elon musk was playing near the end of the show when he was in his rocket in outer space? That’s right. It was tapped out. I like when the game gets mentioned on the show. Have fun.

  29. I just saw the episode, and I love the fact that Elon’s Mypad had Tapped out open.

  30. I loved how Elon had Tapped out on his screen at the end of the new episode.
