Should I Spend Donuts On The Homer?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well…after giving us a bit of the “ole’ in and out” Gil is still sticking around in Springfield for a few more days!  Why?  To sell you stuff you didn’t think you needed until Gil said you did!

So what’s he offering this time?  Well…for a limited-time (ie until, Monday 3/16) you can purchase The Homer!  The Homer is a premium decoration for your Springfield.

Now I’m sure you’re wondering…”is this something I should take Gil up on?  Or am I better off saving my donuts for something better?”  Well…before you hit that confirm button, let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this most epic fail of automotive history to YOUR Springfield!

Gil Deal The Homer

Decoration: The Homer
Cost:
82 donuts
Size:
5×3
Bonus %:
3% on all cash and XP
Conform-O-Meter:
Vanity +820
Unique:
Yes, only 1 per Springfield.

Pros
-Animated when tapped
-Offers a nice bonus%
-Comes with a small questline (2 tasks for Homer)
-Something nostalgic from the classic Simpsons era!

Cons
-It’s a bit overpriced compared to the other cars in Springfield, even when you compare it to the premium cars.  (although it did cost a fortune in the episode)
-Only improves Vanity, one of the easiest Conform-O-Meter requirements to max out

Final Thought:
Premium
Honestly, this was an instant buy for me.  I didn’t really think that hard about it (In fact I got it before Gil disappeared yesterday).  This is from one of my favorite episodes of The Simpsons and just screams nostalgia!  That being said….it may not be for everyone.  However, I will say out of all the deals Gil usually comes around with, this one is the most reasonably priced.  Usually Gil doesn’t come to Springfield for anything less than 200 donuts.  The short questline associated with the car is pretty funny and the bonus pay out is nice for donuts spent.  So for premium players, I do think this is a good buy.  Plus, if Herb joins the game later don’t you think you’ll be kicking yourself if you didn’t buy The Homer when it was available?

Freemium
This one is going to be a freemium tossup in my opinion.  I think it’s a decent buy (even if you’re a freemium player) but it’s going to come down to how many donuts you have and how nostalgic the car makes you feel.  I know there are some die-hard Simpson fans that are freemium players that would much rather have The Homer than any of the other Superhero stuff.  This is one where I’d say if you want it, go for it.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would/wouldn’t do…and I can tell you this is one I picked up right away.  Just remember…whatever you decide this IS Limited-Time so be sure to make your decision before Gil leaves Springfield on at 0700GMT (3am EDT) on Tuesday 3/16!

What do you think of The Homer?  Your thoughts on Gil bringing him to town?  Did you purchase it?  Where have you placed it?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Tucker is an amazing movie ! I watched it several times. “Hold that tiger!!”😁

  2. Just makes me wants to see (again) Coppola’s film “Tucker: A man and his dream”

  3. There is another questline that come with The Homer but that up to EA to release it.

    • Yes…right now it’s all speculation based on what’s in the files. It’s a wait and see game. As is our policy…if it’s not currently in the game it’s not on the site.

  4. has anyone noticed a drop in criminal spawn rates since Gil showed up? or am i just logging into my town too much.

Where’s the “Should I Spend Donuts on FruitBatman” thread? PS Love all that you guys do!

So, anybody see this glitch…. I got The Homer, and the black and white Empire State Building disappeared, along with King Homer. However, the airplane that circles the building is still there. How do I fix this oe?

  7. One of the quests when you get ‘The Homer’ has Homer standing next to the car drinking beer. I thought this was really cool animation and just went to send Homer to do it again but I couldn’t find the task. Was it just a one off thing or am I missing something? Really hope I’m missing something, was one of my favourite animations so far…

  8. Picking this one up—a classic episode “….Put a horn here, here and here—you can never find one when you need it….” And I agree with a previous post, I too missed Sherry Bobbins and I spent a lot of donuts trying to win her…… Thanks for all your info! 😀

  9. I Did!!! 😄 I put my “Homer” on a “Pedastle” outside of The Simpsons House with Barricades, Barbed Wire Fence, and Lots of Stop Signs and etc!! A typical “Red Neck” style Security for His Car!! I’m glad I got it!! AND, Did I get a Jaw Dropping Surprise with my Friends Points!!! A Big RED Boxey Old Style Type Van!! Love It!!

  10. I got this the second time Gil showed up for the bonus. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get this one or not BUT the completionest inside me won me over and I bought it.

  11. I enjoy Gil deals, but I passed on this. I have the donuts, heck I could even buy 11 if were possible, but I prefer not to waste my donuts on decorations. I am saving my precious sprinklies for characters, if Herb came with it and the price was still a bit higher than I may have considered it.

    • I’m the same – I have the donuts, but these days I generally prefer to spend them on premium offers that include characters (even skins), both with and without an accompanying building. If Herb were included, I would’ve spent my donuts lightning fast.

  12. They’ve been adding a lot of cars lately. Here’s hoping they will start allowing cars to go on roads soon. And if they could actually drive along the roads …

  13. I need to stop adding things to my wishlist, because every time I think of something new they then add it and make me want to go broke (donut-wise) I only started my list 2 days before the release of spider pig and he was at the top of the list… then last week I was thinking they need Herb and The Homer… I just have to hope this comes back around eventually, because I can’t go for it just now… BUT I do love the joke that it was designed by a former mental patient.

Same here. I used to have a wish list of things I wanted, but like you, I realised that it was only going to keep piling up, so I discarded it and try to get anything ‘reasonably priced’ whenever I accumulate enough donuts. That said, the character I’m really hoping to get (aside from the lead premium characters i.e. Barney) is Shary Bobbins, but I don’t think she has ever been released for sale.

  14. I grabbed it as soon as Gil returned again for the second time with it. I only wish the “Make Homer drink beer” task continued to be available after the quest line was completed.

    • It should be a permanent task. Stupid of EA. Why go thru the programming to only have it done once?

  15. I disagree 100 percent with the review. Look even with two quest lines, when you compare donuts spent vs bonus gained, this item is over priced. At least EA should make it close. Yes I did jump on the cars last go around, but that’s because the bonus was in line with the price. I think EA should refactoring all the items with this in mind.

    • That’s the whole point (and inside joke) on this. In the show, The Homer was an overpriced car that no one wanted to buy and it bankrupted Herb and ruined his business.
Compared to a whale, this thing’s a bargain.

  16. I’m still sad I missed out on Truckasauraus and Cherry Bobbins.

  17. I groan everytime i log in, and see an update, because I know EA wants to slug me for something new. Losing patience with EA.

    • Probably best not to play then! Premium items are what pay for the game. All the staff, developers, writers and voice actors don’t work for free. I don’t spend a lot on donuts so when I see an update there’s probably a 90% chance I won’t take up the item offered (in fact I have never taken a Gil deal in over 2yrs of playing) but I don’t object to them cos I know there are players who are prepared to spend the cash to get cool limited time items in their towns. That’s how I see it anyway 🙂

      • Yea you are right, people need to keep buying donuts or they will stop making new content and updating the game. TSTO was EA’s biggest earning mobile game last year (read this somewhere, can’t remember where now). I have a small disposable income which I get donuts with, I worked out once that I am paying about 20 cents per hour, this doesn’t bother me at all. I love the premium items 🙂

  18. I like to think that Herb’s inclusion to TSTO is entirely dependant on his sales quota. Like EA will only release him when 75% (just throwing numbers) of the entire user base buys whatever he is offering.

So yea, lets save Herb from working dreadful hours without pay from the Evil Administration by buying up his offerings. Hopefully he can then earn his freedom and enter Springfield on his own so that then we’d be able to send him on chores with dreadful hours with no sleep and without pay 😀

  19. I’m glad I bought Petroleus Rex + Tar Pits, and Bartman, but I would rather have the Homer than Spider Pig/Harry Plopper. Now I’m broke and only have 52 donuts…. Any suggestions for getting 30 donuts over the next 2 days?

  20. William Bergheimer

This monstrosity costs 82 donuts? I’m ruined!

  21. By the way, thanks for all the posts.

  22. The two quests for homer – are they permanent tasks or one time shots just for the quest? I’m on the fence and permanent tasks will push me over.

  23. R u guys still going to do fruit bat/ is it worth the donuts or not? I’m not sure about buying the car with one more wave of the comic book coming and maybe getting radioactive man.

    • Yes… we put this one out first as it ends sooner. Fruit Batman coming up.

    • By the time FruitBat comes out it will be too late. He helps on this Super Hero game. Why are they waiting til he has no value?

      • Ummmm if you look on our site (cool search feature in menu) you’d see a lot his info is already on the site. He came into the game 2013. His info is already listed. Along with his “help” already being in several Superheroes posts. So just because we didn’t make a brand new pretty post with this release of buying, does not mean we haven’t already offered a LOT of details on him to use. 😉

Not to mention today is ONLY day 3 since his release. It’s not like he’s been in the game to buy for months n months. He just got here for purchase since he appeared limited time in 2013. A lil patience. A LOT of details to get out with Issue 3 first, car expiring fast, THEN a character on sale for well over another week. We’re not going to flood 30 posts to the site in one day. That’s just plain silly and annoying to readers.

      • These guys work pretty hard to keep us updated with EVERYTHING! Not to mention they do it all for free. You need to appreciate how fast their info goes out & how they do it all for FREE & not complain. Seriously sheesh

  24. I bought the Homer for my premium game, but not for my two secondary games. My feeling is it’s a good one for completionist types, but I wouldn’t recommend it for freemium players.

  25. Does it come with rack and peanut steering?

  26. I do like the episode this comes from and I would like to have this “beautiful” car in my town, but I think I have to pass. While I do have the donuts (barely) as a freemie I think I’d rather save up a few more and go for a building/character combo.

  27. Instant buy for me because of the nostalgia you mentioned! However I am having a difficult time finding the “perfect” spot to put it. I have no room for it in front of my Simpson home which is where I want to put it, so it’s in front of my DMV currently. Will most likely have to rearrange some stuff to get it where I want it, but like you said, instant buy for me, love that episode.

Question regarding Gil: I know no one knows beforehand when he’ll pop up, but are there times throughout the year when he can reasonably be expected? For those who have been playing for years, is there a certain time of year/season where it’s safe to assume Gil will appear with a donut deal (Christmas, for instance, seems pretty consistent), or is it truly random and a surprise every time?

  28. I am not going to get it. I got spiderpig instead. IMO, he’s a better buy. “Spiderpig, spiderpig, does whatever a spiderpig does. Can he swing, from a Web? No he can’t, he’s a pig. look ouuuuuuuut, he is a spiderpig!”

    • Bangles Dupree

Spiderpig is the best premium item this time round. Several cool outdoor tasks, and the silo looks great in my farm area. I had no trouble passing on the Homer car, but I did get Bartman and Fruit Batman. I have been happier with Fruit Batman because his outdoor tasks are funnier. Bartman had a good questline but now that’s over, I’m kind of “meh.” Spiderpig rolls in muck!

  29. I am not going to get it. I got spiderpig instead. IMO, he’s a better buy. “Spiderpig, spiderpig, does whatever a spiderpig does. Can he swing, from a Web? No he can’t, he’s a pig. look ouuuuuuuut, he is a spiderpig!

  30. Got it and love it.
Hope they add more classic stuff.
    Candy most Dandy anyone???
