Terwilliger’s Guide to Leveling Up the Opera House: Act Three

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

The final Terwilliger Act has arrived in Springfield…Act 3…and Cecil’s final incentive to inspire the residents of Springfield to like him is to build an Opera House!

So, now that you have the back story let’s talk about the Opera House.  The Opera House is basically the key to the final act of the event.  Once you’ve started Act 3 you’ll unlock the ability to upgrade the Opera House and earn the newest crafting currency, Theater Masks.  To craft items in Act 3 you’ll need Theater Masks (as well as various other items).  One way you’ll get more Theater Masks is by sending characters on various tasks for these items.  And the way to unlock these character tasks?  Leveling up your Opera House!

Now that Act 3 has arrived it’s opened up a whole new set of Leveling up options …an infinite number in fact!  So we gave you a quick breakdown of what each level does in the Act 3 Rundown Post. But I know you guys  love the details..so let’s take a closer look at what it takes and what happens when you Level Up the Opera House during Act 3…

ico_terwilligers_operaupgrade

Before I get into the Act 3 Level Up Details…you got it…let’s quickly recap the Leveling up basics for those that have may have forgotten…

Note: For those of you that don’t have the Opera House….you NEED to finish the Act 2 questline to get it.  (ie Unlock Sideshow Bob).  You can find more details on what you need to do here.

How Do I Upgrade?

Note: The Opera House Upgrade Bug was fixed.  You can now Upgrade the Opera House by tapping on it (in addition to the steps below)

Upgrading the Opera House is a bit different than upgrading Monsarno, as in right now there’s only one way to upgrade.  Right now the only way to upgrade the Opera House is tap on the event menu (remember you access that via the Knife Trophy on the bottom right of your screen…icon looks like this: ico_terwilligers_trophy).  And the last item listed is the Opera House Upgrade screen (you’ll have to scroll down to get it):

2015-05-13 00.29.46See the Opera House Icon?  That’s the one you’ll want to be on.

Right now you cannot upgrade by tapping on the Opera House.  Eventually EA may fix this, but for now you can only upgrade through the event menu.

What’s Needed to Upgrade?

DNA and Theatre Masks.  The same stuff needed for Crafting.  Different amounts are needed to upgrade to a new level. (we’ll get to that in a minute)

ico_terwilligers_dna_lg ico_terwilligers_theatremasks_lg

How Do I Earn DNA and Theater Masks?

ico_terwilligers_upgrade_dna ico_terwilligers_upgrade_theatremask

A few ways.  Both items can be earned from clearing Bob Clones and Mutant Blobs (from Mutant Seedlings your neighbors leave in your town).  Note: They DO fall from Bob Clones, they’re just rare.  So it may be a while before you see them…but they will fall from Bob Clones.

You can also earn both DNA and Theater Masks from completing Cecil’s Daily Tasks.  Just note that you must get to (and complete) at least the 3rd Daily task from Cecil to earn Theater Masks.  Theater Masks are the rewards for completing the 3rd and 4th Daily Task from Cecil.

You can also earn both items by completing character tasks.  For DNA you’ll send your characters on tasks at Monsarno (details here).  For Theater Masks you’ll automatically start with a task for Kooks to earn Masks at the Opera House (even before you upgrade).  Kooks will have a 12hr tasks as soon you unlock the ability to upgrade the Opera House.

And now…let’s look at the new stuff….

What Happens When I Upgrade?

Well, at each upgrade point you’ll unlock more stuff.  This stuff could be tasks to earn Theater Masks, new craftable items or higher payouts on existing tasks.  Here’s a look at what you’ll earn at each Level:

Remember for a list of who’s in which group check out Bunny’s post on Cecil’s Daily tasks.

Level 1 unlocks a job for Kooks to get masks (what you start with…12hr task for Kooks.  Earns 13 Masks)

Level 2 unlocks a job for Celebrities to get masks

Level 3 unlocks the Opera seats (you’ll be awarded one for FREE) and increases mask payouts from jobs

Level 4 unlocks a job for Youngsters to get masks

Level 5 unlocks the Ticket Booth (you’ll earn one for FREE) and increases mask payouts from jobs.

Level 6 unlocks a job for Entrepreneurs to get masks

Level 7 unlocks Opera Seats (yes again for FREE) and increases mask payouts from jobs

Level 8 unlocks a job for Criminals to get masks.

Level 9 unlocks a job for Saints to get masks.

Level 10+ increases mask payouts

There is no cap on level upgrades for Act 3…so you won’t reach the max.

How Much Does It Cost to Upgrade at Each Level?

Here’s the breakdown…

*At Level 4 (once you’ve upgraded to it) you’ll unlock the 3-Day Theater Mask Sale in the store.  625 Masks for 25 Donuts.  (I’m not planning on doing a SIB on this.  It’s purely a…if you need them/want them and have the donuts get them.  Pros and cons are self explanatory)

For each level you want to increase your Opera to after Level 15, add 100 DNA and 225 Theater Masks to the previous requirement.   That’s how much it’ll cost to upgrade to that level.  Each level after 15 will increase Theater Mask Payout slightly (remember…it’s not on all tasks, just some)

What Are the Payouts for the Character Tasks?

Here’s what upgrades look like for the first 10 Levels

What Happens When I’ve Reached the Max Level?

There is no Max Level in this one…so be careful and don’t burn all your resources on upgrading to get to the Max, cause you won’t reach it.

If There’s No Max Level, When Should I Stop?

That’s really up to you.  You’ve got to decide which tasks/payout upgrades you want & what’s worth it to you.  However, I recommend NOT upgrading past Level 9 (and that will be my own strategy as well).  If you unlock to Level 9 you’ll unlock all of the character tasks (including ones for Saints and Entrepreneurs..they’ll FINALLY get used!), which will help earn loads of masks quickly.  But as you can see the increase in payouts from Level 10 and up is pretty small.  IMO it’s just not worth the resources to upgrade there.  But again…it’s up to you.

So DNA and Theater Masks Are Required for BOTH Crafting and Upgrading, Which Should We Focus On?

I’ve been saying it since Act 1…Upgrade, Upgrade, Upgrade!  The more tasks/characters you have earning for you the better off you’ll be.

However, just like I said when Act 2 started with the Farmer’s Market..if you’re close to the Gas and Grub (like a couple of thousand away), I would continue working towards crafting that to get it out of your way and then you can focus on the new items.  BUT that was just my opinion and what I would do.  At the end of the day, you’ve got to do what you think is best for you.

What About the Opera House items, How Do I Craft Those/What’s Up With Them?

As noted above Levels 3, 5 and 7 will unlock Opera House “accessories”…

At Level 3 AND Level 7 you’ll unlock the Opera Seating:

outdooroperaseats

You’ll be given one for free once you reach Level 3 AND Level 7 (yup you’ll get 2 free)…

And you can craft additional ones via the crafting Menu.  Here’s what’s required to craft more Seats..
900 ico_terwilligers_dna_lg
3,400 ico_terwilligers_theatremasks_lg

At Level 5 you’ll unlock the Opera House Ticket Booth:

outdooroperaticketbooth

You’ll also be given one for free once you reach Level 5…

And you can craft additional ones via the crafting Menu.  Here’s what’s required to craft more Ticket Booths…
400 ico_terwilligers_corn_lg
1,700 ico_terwilligers_theatremasks_lg

So if you like them and want more than 1 (or 2 in the case of the seating) you can continue to craft after you’ve gotten your free ones.

And that my friends concludes the info on the Opera House Upgrades for Act Three!

What are your thoughts on upgrading? Have you upgraded yet?  Thoughts on the character tasks associated with earning more Theater Masks?  What are your thoughts on the event overall so far?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Another great post – thanks for the tons of great info! 🙂

I’m hoping that things progress just a little bit faster for this act – for the past two acts, I’ve been able to craft the major item (farmer’s market and Gas and Grub) only after the next act started. Obviously this won’t work for the big item for this act (houseboat), since there is no “next act,” which is why I REALLY want things to go faster for this act (unless EA graciously grants us an extension)!

  2. OrdinarilyBob

Excellent article Addicts. Thanks for the scoop.

I’m with you, I think L9 is the sweet spot. Checking the math it really doesn’t seem worth it to upgrade to L10. So when I’m done with the Opera, my upgrades will be:

    Monsarno: 20
    Herbicide: 15
    Opera: 9

Maybe if the event was going to go longer than only two more weeks, L10 for the Opera would be worth it, but looking at the meager increase between Ls 9/10, and my character roster/playstyle, I just don’t think I’d recoup the two grand masks.

  3. Did I miss something or did I hit a glitch? All my corn and fertilizer and DNA just reset to 0. Am I just dumb and missed the memo or is this not supposed to happen?

  4. Just had a patch hit and now I can upgrade the Opera house directing when clicking on it.

  5. What a daunting task it must be to so clearly articulate the specifics of these events. Your hard work is evident in this post…and the many others. Just wanted to say “great job” to everyone involved. Im exhausted reading this! lol…

  6. Just got my Farmers Market, almost got to the Gas & Grub, but I decided to go for Opera Upgrades first… That will help me get the masks sooner… Funny thing though, that the 12 Mask task pays out more than the DNA task…

Thanks for having such a huge amount of information available, so soon. Very happy with all your input!

  7. This was extremely helpful as usual! I unlocked the first set of seats this morning & was like geez another would be nice bit I definitely dont want to have to craft one especially with the cool new prizes! Now I know I’ll get one more! Pretty excited about the houseboat & homer decoy. EA restored my missing farmers market & gas n grub! Almost have the smokehouse! Hopefully I can get everything.

    • Yay! So glad you got them back! 🙂

      • Thank you! It took 2 chats but all that hard work didn’t go to waste. I admit I may have set an alarm to continue on the 1hr fertilizer tasks lol. Hope you & baby bean are doing well today 🙂

        • lol at least they’re back!

And yup, we’re doing well today! (finally a break in the heat we’ve been having here) Thank you 🙂

  8. I’m really struggling visiting more than one neighbour before my game closes. This is on my phone AND tablet. Bonus, my tablet will show large black sections and various visual glitches before it fails. I might not do well in this round.

    • That happens to me sometimes, too. I think it might be related to the memory caches in our devices. I just need to power down my tablet all the way after a few days to a week of use. Then on restart, mine works perfectly. Hope your fix is that easy!

      • powering down worked for awhile but now it starts blacking out after about 20 minutes & I have to power down & leave it alone for hours. going to make insurance claim on tablet. luckily I can play on phone. love to hear if others have this problem & how they resolved it.

    • The black sections got so bad in my game that i’m going to make an insurance claim. first I could restart the game & it would be good for awhile; now it starts blacking out after 20 minutes. The tablet is only used for tsto so I don’t know if it blacks out with other apps. I took pics of screen to send in with tablet.

  9. I don’t get what everyone are moaning about, you guys to a great job with all the info you give us in these posts it seems to me that ppl clearly don’t read them properly. If you take the time to read the advice from Bunny and Alisia im sure you will all get what you want in the end. I’m a freemium player and have manged to upgrade the herbicide to level 16, monsarno to level 22 and just upgraded to level 5 on the opera house, I haven’t been able to craft all the items but have the main ones I wanted which pay out ie farmers market and gas and grub and hopefully I’ll get the boathouse too. Plus I’ve managed to get all the prizes up to date I’m not fussed about all the other stuff . I know it’s long winded and came literally just after the superhero event but remember it is only a game and won’t be the end of the world if you don’t get everything , I’ve missed out on stuff in the past and am still happily tapping away 🙂

    • Sounds like the two of us are neck and neck!

And I agree how great Bunny and (especially) Alissa have covered this, with superb advice at a very early stage. I think more people pay attention to it than don’t!

    • what level are you in the game overall?

    • Agreed. I too am freemium and am clipping along at a decent pace. This site has been helpful in developing strategy. All of my crafts are completed just under the wire, but I am able to get them in. Happy tapping!

  10. For some reason I haven’t been givin the opera house. I didn’t get the last prize in the last series could that be why?

  11. It’s kind of frustrating how little theatre masks you get at the early stages.
Mutant Bobs drop them so rarely and the only theatre mask tasks I’ve got are the 8hr & 12hr tasks, which take too long.
*sigh* I’m at that unpleasant point where I’m getting too little theatre masks and I’m not quite there with Fertilizer & DNA to craft anything good. It feels like I’m not making any actual progress sometimes…
I hope against hope that EA will give us a few extra days at least to accumulate more currency to craft stuff.

  12. How to get this opera house?

  13. I agree with the “upgrade, upgrade, upgrade” mentality. I’ve been getting up to the levels you suggest before worrying about crafting and I haven’t had a problem yet. It always seems a bit close, like I’ll never make it, then I get the big crafting prize 2 days before the act switches. This event is totally possible, (without spending donuts), you just need to be smart about what tasks you use.

  14. Think I’m stopping at level 7. The rewards for going to level 9 (unlocking saints for a 1-hour job) are not worth it to me since I can only grind semi-hourly on weekends. I’ll already have something for criminals, and the almost everyone, now including entrepreneurs, will be earning masks.

The jump from 6 to 7 looks like it’s big enough to be worth it.

  15. I don’t like the overlap of the same items needed for crafting and upgrading. Im about to get the farmers market now, and still 1000 DNA away from the gas and grub. I doubt I’ll come close to the houseboat or opera house accessories. Any idea if they might extend the event? Thanks.

  16. I’m still seeing mutant seeds as my payout for Monsarno. Which is weird and I’m afraid will put me behind in the long run. I’ve tried visting friends towns and hard resetting. Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling next?

    • I don’t think uninstall will help at this point. Honestly…I think mutant seeds are SUPPOSED to be the payout for Monsarno right now and it’s the music notes that’s actually the glitch. Your game might not be impacted and that could be why it won’t correct itself.

      • Ah, alright. Hopefully that’s the case! Thanks for the quick answer, you guys are always my go to for this game. I can’t thank you guys enough. 🙂

  17. I’m really not enjoying this event in its final stages. It’s very difficult to accumulate enough DNA and theatre masks for crafting. I’m a premium player and I’m finding it hard, I couldn’t imagine doing this event without all the premium characters I have to earn currency.

  18. tony_green451

It will be cool if they let us get an option to convert materials to another materials, I got 10000+ corns to spare lol

    • I’d love that as well! I have so much fertiliser sitting there that I upgraded Monsarno a bunch of times just to drop the number down. I’d love to be able to transform it into DNA or masks.

  19. Christina (catnipandhoney)

I have to say, right now I’m kind not annoyed by how much overlap there is between DNA and Theatre Mask earning characters. I hate having to choose between the two materials I need most when I have plenty of corn and fertilizer for what I need them for at this point. Argh.

  20. I’m kinda ignoring the opera house since I’m so close to everything else. If I just ignor it completely will this get in the way of possible storyline with Bob or any of my citizens?

  21. Definitely agree on all upgrade stop points.
19 Monsarno, 15 herbicide and 9 opera house. Nearly at level 3 now 🙂

  22. I meant would he have tasks that we could send him to do

  23. I DID NOT MEAN NPC!!!

  24. Will Sideshow bobs brother become an NPC after the update or will he be like the bunny we got for easter.

  25. YOW !!
Going to need to do a lot of math to figure out what the best level to upgrade to. (for me)
There are only a few items I have any interest in crafting, so I may not have to upgrade past 4 or maybe 5 if I care enough to get the ticket booth.

  26. ●sigh● tried, not trident….

  27. I am tapping on the opera house hammer…no upgrade, just a list of jobs. Already trident Uninstaller and reinstall. Same same. Any ideas.

    • lol did you read what the post says? The very post you’re commenting on. The first thing it says is you cannot upgrade by tapping on the Opera House. The ONLY way to upgrade the Opera House is by going through the event Menu…Here’s what it says:

      How Do I Upgrade?

Upgrading the Opera House is a bit different than upgrading Monsarno, as in right now there’s only one way to upgrade. Right now the only way to upgrade the Opera House is tap on the event menu (remember you access that via the Knife Trophy on the bottom right of your screen. And the last item listed is the Opera House Upgrade screen (you’ll have to scroll down to get it). Right now you cannot upgrade by tapping on the Opera House. Eventually EA may fix this, but for now you can only upgrade through the event menu.

If you go back and read the top of the post (the very first question answered, it’ll show you images as well) 🙂

      • This was just fixed with an update for me. Somebody was listening.

      • Don’t know if you will even see this, but it will make me feel better! I did find the info right after I asked. I believe I actually cried “D’oh!” out loud. This is why I should not try to do anything at 4:30 in the morning. Thanks for all the great info!

  28. Don’t think I’ll upgrade the opera house at all since it requires DNA which is still needed to upgrade monsarno and the sprayer AND to craft items. I’ve been playing multiple times daily (all those 1hr tasks!) and visited all neighbours, dropping seeds when I’ve had them, which isn’t very often. And I still have been unable to craft anything at all from the prizes as stuff gets used up for upgrades. Didn’t manage to get the Dr at the end of act 2 either as it was displaying for me as unlocking at 13,000 gas masks and as soon as I went over that it didn’t unlock and switched to saying 16,000 which it wasn’t possible to get to with only a day remaining.
I think this has been the worst event yet. So much work for so little return since the building upgrades are pointless once the event is over, yet you have to upgrade to even remotely have a chance of getting a prize. I’m only really interested in getting the gas and grub as it would fit in my petrol station area, but so far it seems like I won’t even manage that. Whilst at the same time I visit neighbours and they have several of the prizes and have managed to finish each act. I’m not sure if they’ve only managed due to doughnut spends or if I’m doing something wrong. Surely playing once per hour from 10am to midnight (later some nights) should give me enough items to earn at least one prize? I’ve got more neighbours than the amount which drop items, so not sure if adding more neighbours would help.

    • What level is Monsarno and the Herbicide Sprayer?

What level are you on in TSTO?

      • My Monsarno is level 14, still short on fertiliser to get to 15. Sprayer is level 13, ready to upgrade to 14 but trying to hold off till I can unlock the DNA tasks at level 15 in monsarno.
My Springfield is level 51 and waited until today to place the pancake house since I wanted to wait till it was under 1mill. Has been so for a little while, but needed to expand to fit it in first.

I think I’m most behind because the game didn’t tell me there was an update until there were only 5 days left of act 1. I’d even wondered about there being an event and it wasn’t showing up as in need of an update in my apps list on google play. So I was putting everyone on 24hr tasks and just visiting once per day until it finally said I had to update to continue (when visiting a neighbour).
But since then I’ve been playing each day as often as it notified me of people finishing tasks or sometimes more often if someone had left some mutant seeds.

      • For reference, until my next batch of tasks finish in an hour, I’m at:
529 fertiliser, 2507 corn, 1652 DNA, and 1127 masks. Not too far off krusty’s outfit in music notes though. So that seems to be going quick enough. Just its so slow getting the crafting supplies!

  29. I’ll be trying to get to lvl 9 as quickly as possible, then I’ll look to see if level 10 is going to be worth it, but it’ll be close and I’m pretty sure level 11 won’t be worth it for me, so 9 might well be where I stay.
I’m not doing too badly, I’ll be at level 5 in a couple of hours time but I don’t have a good feel for how long it will take me to get to 9. We’ll see.

    • I’ve just done the maths for me, and levels 8 and 9 are undoubtedly worth it.

Going to level 10 will only be worth it if I can do it with 11 full days left.
That’s with 5 Saints, 14 Youngsters, 9 Celebrities and 14 Kooks (I’ve not included anyone in more than 1 group and am only counting groups that benefit from lvl 10).
It’s also assuming I play pretty much all day, every day.
I have a feeling I’ll be staying at level 9.

My maths justifying level 9 is:
      5 Saints, x
      5 Masks per job, x
      10 days, x
      8 daily jobs
= 2000. Which is more than the 1800 upgrade cost.
If I can get them to do more than 8 daily 1hr jobs it will be well worth it

      • Thanks for sharing your calculations, Swiss! 🙂

      • Rod and Tod are Kooks and Youngsters too, and pay out pretty well in those groups. Bear that in mind if you’re copying my calculations.

  30. Why would one upgrade past level 7 after you have opened up criminals and saints? Seems I will stop there.
