Hey hey firework enthusiasts! In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?
So with the 4th of July update, a lot of stuff appeared in our games. Some old, some new but mostly premium. One of these premium items is the Scandal-gate Hotel… earning $55 and 5 XP every hour for “Taking Reports of Concerned Guests”. Of course, it’s a giant building that most likely is poking fun at a building associated with President Nixon but has it ever been in the Best. Show. Ever.? Let’s check out the Simpsons TV Series to find out, shall we?
“Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington” (S3:E2)
When Lisa writes an essay about what makes America great and becomes a national finalist in a Reader’s Digest contest , her and the family get an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. for the contest. You may recognize the hotel the family stays at in D.C., the Watergate Hotel.
Definitely the same hotel we got in game just with its original name. I’m sure ours in called the Scandal-gate for some reason having to do with money.
For anyone unacquainted, the Watergate was the site of a major political scandal involving a break-in at the Democratic National Committee in the hotel complex. President Nixon’s administration attempted to cover up their involvement and a whole mess of clandestine and often illegal activities came to light resulting in President Nixon’s resignation. Basically, it’s the building TSTO Nixon comes with because it’s the rotten apple that spoiled his entire Wikipedia page lol.
This episode is also funny for other reasons. The family visits a bunch of different places in the U.S. capitol including the White House. Inside, they visit the Presidential Bowling Alley where supposedly, Richard Nixon bowled consecutive 300 games. If you didn’t know, Nixon was an avid bowler and that is why he bowls in TSTO.
Lots of other funny stuff in the episode but I’ll be succinct for once. So there you go friends… the origin of our new premium hotel and a connection to Nixon both real and animated. What do you think of the Scandal-gate? Did you buy it? Lived enough years to remember when it was actual news and not just a tainted legacy for the 37th POTUS? Sound off in the comments and here’s hoping the only scandals in our lives consist of pixels in a game.
TTFN… Wookiee out!
Would’ve been more appropriate if the Scandalgate came with Hillary Clinton. 😛
Loved this episode! Was glad to pick it up, although I would have liked it better if it wasn’t a 1-hour collection rate. I prefer 4-hour or more, personally.
During my visit to Cambodia last year, I learned that Nixon was involved in illegal bombing of the country.
Cambodia?? I’m so jealous. That country seems to be so beautiful! But I must say – and I’m ashamed of it – that all I know about Cambodia is from watching Tomb Raider.
Yes the ruined temple is now called the tomb raider temple due to the movie. The place used USD as the key currency. Any thing below 1 USD will involved their own currency. Many westerners can be seen there and the drinks are cheap.
Not exactly relevant (sorry) but – WOOHOO! WE JUST GOT THE FIRST COMMUNITY PRIZE!!! AND WE THOUGHT IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN!!! HOORAY!!!
