THOH Prize Guide: Act 1, Prize 5…Gate to Nowhere

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well here we are, in most Tappers favorite time of the year in Springfield….Halloween!  (although I prefer Christmas 😉 )  The leaves on the tress have changed colors, the water is murky and there’s a darkness that falls over our TSTO screens.  All of these effects fit in perfectly with this year’s theme….Nightmares.

This Event is broken up into 3 Acts, with each Act containing part of the story.  To help you move along with the event you’ll get several prizes per Act.  Each prize will either be something fun for Springfield or something to help you move along in the event.  For the first Act you’re tasked with collecting S’mores (ico_thoh2015_smores_md) to unlock each prize!

The fifth, and final, Act 1 prize awarded at 9,282 ico_thoh2015_smores_md (or +4,230ico_thoh2015_smores_md from unlocking the Model Donut) is the Gate to Nowhere, an event beneficial decoration for our Springfields!

2015-10-09 18.52.28

So let’s take a closer look at this fifth prize and just what happens when you unlock it your Springfield…

Once you’ve collected 9,282 ico_thoh2015_smores_md  (or 4,230 more ico_thoh2015_smores_md from prize four) you’ll automatically be awarded the Gate to Nowhere and you’ll see this message popup:

2015-10-09 18.52.35

Remember if you store it you’ll have to go into your inventory to retrieve it..

2015-10-09 18.53.04

So what does it do?  Does it just sit there and look pretty?

The Gate to Nowhere is actually a beneficial item to get because it will spawn random nightmares for you!  Every 24hrs you’ll earn 24 random nightmares from the Gate to Nowhere (you’ll have to tap on it to clear it, so they won’t just appear out of nowhere).  These could be anything from snakes to bunnies etc…you won’t know what’s coming because they’re random!

Here’s what it looks like when it’s in action:

2015-10-09 18.53.44

And the random nightmares are represented by this icon:  ico_thoh2015_guide_tab .  That means random nightmares will spawn from that…so don’t think it means that ghosts will start appearing, because they won’t.  Your nightmares will still be Zombies, Snakes, Bunnies & Skeletons.

Here are some quick facts about the Gate to Nowhere:

And that’s it to this fifth and final Act 1 prize!

What’s Next?
Congratulations, if you’ve earned the Gate to Nowhere you’ve earned ALL of the Act 1 prizes!  Now it’s onto Act 2!  Act 2 won’t start until October 20th…so you may have some downtime until then.  However, make sure you’ve completed the Act 1 main questline so that when Act 2 hits you can move on.  The main Act 1 questline is the Call of the Campfire.  You’ll have to complete all 13 parts AND complete the 1 part questline that pops up after called The Unspeakable.

So that my friends is the full breakdown of the fifth and final THOH Act 1 prize!

What do you think of the Gate to Nowhere?  Thoughts on it spawning random nightmares?  Where have you placed it?  Thoughts on the event overall?  Ready for Act 2?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. I hope I’ll be able to get it in time. It is a pretty big step from donut girl to the gate…. I’m not even halfway whereas I got the donut girl pretty fast. Better tap a bit more…

  2. Unlocked the gate already, but it looks a bit dull when it is not animated, and it is only animates a few seconds while you collect your daily nightmares. Also, it seemed like a long way between the Model Donut and the Gate. With not much else to do but re-send kids to make S’Mores, it got a bit boring there for a bit… To pass the time till act 2, there is at least the episode tie-in now.

  3. Got my gate yesterday morning. I’m thinking about putting it in front of the opening into the mountains for the SH area. I think that would be a cool place to have it in my town when this event is over.

  4. Feel bad for my son. No way his account is going to get the gate. With only 4 kids he’s still working on getting the model donut. He did just level to 16 though. 🙂

    • Just HOW bad do you feel ?

Give him your credit card so he can buy more kids with donuts, go on !

      🎃👻💀🐍🐇☺

  5. Awesome! just unlocked this today, is there any indication for BonutS’mores after this?

Didn’t think I could manage to balance rail yard/heights (minimally) through this along with event so far, glad it worked out that way so far. 🙂

  6. I’m still over 1000 smore short of gate to nowhere and tapping multiple times per day. I think the people commenting in various posts about how easy this event is must have all the premium kids (I only have 3 premium inc Hugo) for everyone else getting enough smores takes a long time and lot of tapping.
Crafting is easy though except getting rid of purple horrors. I just dump max I can in any town that has free space but still have over 300 🙂

    • You’re right. Premium characters are important during these times, but they really should be because those characters didn’t just show in the game casually. It took months/years of playing, probably (lots of) $$ to purchase donuts or vigilant play time to get them freemium. I bought the twins after hemming and hawing because of THOH this year. I’m still not sure why…..
I was where you are last year. Everything looks better in your rear view mirror.

      • I never liked the twins in the show so never thought about buying them but they are basically 4 kids worth in this event… Uter even at full price has other benefits also.
To be fair I have been playing since just before thoh 2012 and have premium characters just not many kids 🙁
I’m just going to focus on getting 20 free donuts for now and if that continues maybe I’ll get to buy another one before xmas event 🙂

      • wildthornberry88

I finally caved in and bought the twins this event too lol. Clever marketing strategy with the amount of s’mores they offer 😛

        • They always payout dongle for everything because they’re essentially just two premium characters welded together. I never thought they were all that great a deal…roughly comparable to getting any two premium characters.

    • After playing hardcore style for 2 days I managed to get the gate a few hours ago. 3 days ahead of schedule and still without most of the premium kids 🙂

  7. Does anyone else think this event is rather lame? I’ve been a dedicated player since the beginning but I’m struggling to get motivated for this event, there’s no new characters (yet) just costumes for existing ones also I’m not sure what the point of doing anything is! Why update the campfire? Does it do better things at higher levels? Cause I’m not seeing it yet! Also the storylines are boring with no real outcome or achievement! Overall I think this event sucks, the only one that was worse was the clash of clones one! Rant over now!

    • I’m pretty disappointed in this Halloween too. Clash of clones was my first even and I loved it. I know I’m in the minority here. This one is repetitive and boring how many spooky trees do they think I want? I played last year and have a ton from then too.
Still working on that darn portal though.

    • I’m enjoying this event immensely! The prizes and craftables (especially) could be a bit better, but I feel like they hit the nail on the head with the gameplay on this one. Lots to do, but not too stressful. Since thinking and planning involved. Lots of good opportunity for neighbor interaction.

By the way, the benefit to upgrading the campfire is the prizes you get for doing it. You can make a campground with the tents and I know a lot of folks are building mazes with the scary hedges.

Sorry you’re not enjoying this event…hopefully, the next one will be more to your liking! (And, if you don’t care about doing the event stuff, you really don’t have to…you can always focus on just recycling stuff for donuts or building up your Springfield Heights. Lots of optional stuffto do in the game these days! 🙂

      • wildthornberry88

I’m pretty bored with this one as I have most of it already lol… bit disappointing even the things you squash like bunnies and snakes are repeats. Can’t fault the gameplay, but when you use basically the same code from last events you’d better hope it’s gonna.work well lol.

      • I agree with you. The pace is good. I like the different types of nightmares you can spawn. Visiting friends is fun—I only wish “some” of my friends’ towns weren’t always FULL of monsters so I could return a few! 😉

        • Sorry – I do need to sleep sometime (Although last night I was clearing terrors at 1am), and, during work hours, I sometimes have to stop and do a bit of real work (actually, work’s been pretty intense the last couple of weeks…I’m amazed I’ve gotten to do as much tapping as I have, which is kind of a lot!)

But, no worries…by my tally, I’m the one currently in debt to you for 17 nightmares (and your town isn’t an easy one to find room for terrors in either!) 😉

    • I pretty much agree with you.
There’s lots that’s good with it, e.g the pace, the number of nightmare terrors you get, and stuff like that, but it just all feels exactly the same as almost every other recent event. The only difference being others had something different to make it interesting, the only difference with this one is that the terrors keep changing – and that’s not really a ‘fun’ difference, it’s more of a pita.
I guess there’s a limit to what the events can do in terms of gameplay, and at least it’s not a Springfield Heights based event – I think the SH experiment was a good idea terribly executed…
btw Just recently passed my anniversary playing this game, I reckon they’re not doing too bad if I’m still mucking around with this silly little game a year down the line…

      • “the nightmares keep changing” is what I meant to type. Why can I never get a post 100% right the first time? 😉

  8. Alissa, please, pay attention to low level players….high level players with Big magnifininfg glass and similar “things” are EA players, and your advice to buy 600-700 dollars expensive cell phone or tablet is stupid…..

    • What the heck are you talking about?

And first of all every time I’ve said it its been a joke. But honestly it’s not stupid. If you’re going to sit there and complain about how your device is running slow it it’s several years old…well if you get a new device it won’t run slow. It’s like complaining your computer doesn’t run programs fast anymore. If it’s a few years old it’s outdated technology. So if you’re complaining about your device running slow…well then it’s time to get a new device. And no where did I say spend 600-700 dollars…

      • I’m not talking about outdated technology, i’m talking about lack of ideas….Well, you are allready 70level, so, please be carefull with advice, because, this game, in the last two months, don’t have nothing similar with Springfield

        • How about you let me run my site the way I run it….And if you’re not happy with it you can either a) go somewhere else or b) start your own site.

      • My phone is an LG Volt, got it when it was on sale from Virgin mobile for under 150 bucks and it runs TSTO (and every other app I use) just fine. Gotta agree with Alissa here, if you are gonna bitch about a crappy device then it’s on you get a new one. I see the same stuff when playing MMO’s “this game terrible, it runs so slow, the graphics suck on low settings, blah, blah, blah…” suck it up, save your pennies and get a better system lol.

      • @dragon – You do know there is no level 70 yet, right? No one is at Level 70. And folks that I know here that are neighbors of mine and have aspirational items like the magnifying glass definitely do NOT work for EA (it would be great if they did, because then they could tell us when certain things will be fixed, etc., but maybe not great, because they’d see us talking about glitches that run in our favor and get them fixed too soon, lol!).

    • The game is definitely very slow now and I’m playing on the latest iPad with large memory and have hardly any other apps and over half my memory left on my iPad and the game is slow and constantly crashing. And it’s not because my town is large I’ve only been playing since February and I’m freemium and I don’t even own half the land available yet so it’s not like I have tons of things in my town! Neighbour visits used to take 30-40 mins and now takes 90 mins plus so it means I don’t always have the time to visit all my neighbours when I use to visit them all every day 😦

      • That honestly could be an iOS/EA game compatibility issue. I know iOS users have been having a lot of problems lately.

      • wildthornberry88

Neighbours with monorail take 3 times as long to load so it takes me forever to visit friends now too 🙁

      • I play on an iPad 2 and my game really slowed down. I went ahead and dismantled my monorail & that helped. It uses a lot of “juice”. I still have all those characters working outside in the recycling yard though. Sending characters on inside jobs and not running the helicopter, Vesuvius Pizza, or too many animations will help. It is still slow for me when I visit friends with fancy decorations and 3 monorails running. I am not visiting absolutely everybody every day, but so far my neighbours seem to understand. I have fantastic neighbours with beautiful towns! <3

    • Please can someone tell that low level person that they’re not allowed to talk about level 70 as it’s not in the game yet !

But seriously, ….nobody, not even the hack/cheats started at level 58……. everybody has had to work their way up from lower levels to where they are now ….with the help and advice from this site….so I don’t know what point they’re trying to make 😵

      🙊🎃👻💀🐍🐇☺ ✌ 🚬 🔝

    • Honestly, this site pays loads of attention to low players. They all even have low level games to test things just for low level players.
I remember as a low level player myself reading the site and thinking “why is everything geared to players who’ve been playing for ages and ages?” Well, you know what? It only took about 2 or 3 months and I’d done all the quest-lines, got to the highest level, and was all of a sudden one of those players. 2-3 months. That’s all.
I think it’s incredible that so much attention is given to low-level players since they’ll only be low-level for a little while.
And Alissa, I’m not saying to stop helping the new players, I just think it’s amazing that you do as much as you do and think it’s grossly unfair to be slagged off for something you are doing amazingly well.

  9. I’m on track to unlock the gate before Act 1 ends, but its taking a lot longer than I thought. I got the donut girl days ago. Whew.

  10. Pity that visiting neighbours or tapping formless terrors does not help to get s’mores…

  11. My campfire will not upgrade any further. I unlocked the first set of bramble bushes and now my number of nightmares to unlock the spooky shed or whatever is stuck at 54.. been tapping nightmares and unlocking Act 1 stuff without any problems but my campfire upgrade number is not moving at all.. will probably affect my chance at moving on. How do I fix this problem?

  12. Eeeerrm ignore my previous winge about lack of pink bunnies. I think they were on a fag break cos now they multiplying like.. well.. like rabbits do .ahem *blushes slightly* lol going for a lie down in a dark room zzzzz

  13. Sorry if this was answered in a previous post will the crafting materials remain the same throughout the event when/if new items are added in the next acts?
Been following for a long time thanks for all the tips and dedication Alissa, Bunny, and Wookie!!!

  14. Do you know if the zombies, snakes, bunnies and skeletons carry over to act 2? Does it make sense to use them all crafting multiples of all the items so you don’t lose them when act 2 starts or will it be beneficial to have them later on. I’d rather craft stuff if I’m just going to lose them next Tuesday.

  15. Cool!

Just got an update. New quest named “Scream Depot”. Perhaps a haunted home improvement store?

  16. It has an Eye of Sauron feel to it. (LOTR/Hobbit refreance)

Wish it went somewhere, but since it’s the gate to Nowhere, I guess it wouldn’t. :/

I’ll skip my SJH on SNL “Rannndommm” joke since it wasn’t popular the first time I shared it many posts ago.

This would have been much cooler if it didn’t have the Squid M’onster (or whatever it is called) ontop of it.
Kang Costume to me was the Grand Prize.

  17. The Scream Depot quest just started for me.

  18. I just wish it was ‘ON’ all the time, not just when it was ready to produce nightmares. I have Chalmers sitting in front of it crying and it looks amazing, and would be even better if it was swirling. I will probably specifically not collect it so it always appears on.

    • I’m not sure that will work for you. Mine only appears on while it’s spawning nightmares. (In other words, you have to collect to light it up.)

  19. I just got my first payout from it. Was really cool animation, mirror got orange and swirly and I got a mix of all 4. Can’t wait to read what everyone else gets.

    • Also speaking of animation I put my tower by the mountains so it looks like a door into the mountains and today it was animated and a little hooded guys comes out and goes around on the stairs. So cool had myself a little Lord of the Rings/Hobbit moment.

  20. Got it this morning, at the moment it’s sat next to the campfire but I’ll move things around a bit once I start crafting more spooky groves and trees.

  21. Thanks for the timely post, Alissa! I got off to a late start, but thought I had enough to get me to the gate, but now I’m not so sure. Will have to bear down over the next few days to make sure I don’t miss too many smores.

  22. Is it just me?? Levelled up to 7 on campfire. Telling story to get the pink bunnies but only had 3 in 2 hours?? Is this a glitch?

    • Not a glitch we’re aware of… anyone else? I know when I first tell a story… the spawn rate seems slow but when I come back at the two to four hour mark, there are tons. Hopefully this cleared up for you.

  23. Billy Bo Bob Reb

Thanks for the post. I didn’t realize it would spawn nightmares. I earned it last night, and was thinking about not bothering to take it out of inventory (until closer to act 2), but now I’m glad I built it!

  24. So to clarify… random means completely random, no rhyme or reason just randomly random… sorry I couldn’t resist lol. 😂

  25. alex - aabcampos2

    sad about no bonuts….
whats the point to continue to play until 10/20/15 ?

already got enough craft materials for three events lifetimes….

  26. Just to clarify, do we need to unlock the Gate of Nowhere before moving on to Act 2?

    • No you only need to complete the Act 1 main questline. But if you don’t get the gate to nowhere prior to Act 2 starting it’s doubtful you’ll be able to get it for free after Act 2 starts (most likely it’ll cost donuts)

  27. Someone recently asked if Krustyland Sideshow You still gave donuts. Yes. Got 5 this morning.

  28. I’m just under 800 smores away! So, when it spawns the random nightmares, is it 24 random nightmares of all types or just one type?

  29. Just now unlocked it. 😉

  30. Does random mean 24 different nightmares or are they the same type? The post seems to imply they are of any type.

    • Random means they can be a mix of any of the 4. It’s random..

      • The word random could also apply if they were 24 of the same but a random type. Random assortment of nightmares would clarify any ambiguity.

        • Honestly…don’t over think it. It’s just random. Let it go at that. When you over think things it causes headaches. It’s not a complex game…just relax, don’t over think & have fun.
