Wookieecorp brings you… A-maze-ing Design

Hey hey friends… how’s life?  So the other day I found myself with a bit of free time in my game and was tinkering around with designs.  Staring at the Shinning Maze, I wished it was larger and then I thought to myself… “Self.  What if you just created your own?  If you’d thought of this two weeks ago, you could have saved yourself 55 donuts.” Well… regardless of a premium splurge I feel “meh” about… I did just that.

Shinning MAze

So using the maze EA brought us… I set about to create what I felt was as close a representation to it as I could get. For this, I used the 1 x 2 Large Hedges ($325) and the 1 x 1 Small Hedges ($220).

Shinning Maze Tutorial 2

Total materials needed:

86 Large Hedges = $27,950

9 Small Hedges = $1,980

Total Cost = $29,930

Here’s a grid layout to help with recreating this or for anyone who just wants to see how I did the design.  I actually just did the maze by eye but figured this image might make it easier for some.  I ensured all the paths were the same width which is why the small hedges came into play.

There are so many options available with this!  You could make the maze with any manner of decorations although with the grid layout the blocky hedges are easier.  I myself am considering knocking out a design using all those spooky hedges that EA has given me.  There’s a pineapple maze from Oahu, Hawaii I think could be fun to try.

I got lost in that monstrosity for quite a while lol.  Of course, you could always try your hand at the actual maze from the movie inspired by an amazing Stephen King novel.  Anyone besides me read the sequel?

Overlook Hotel Maze The Shining

What do you think of creating your own Shinning Maze?  My design from the premium decoration is simple, and yes mazes usually have an entrance and exit, but I dig this.  I guess it should be noted you need a bit of space to add a maze to your town but IMHO this looks really cool behind the Maison Derriere or the Spooky House.  Inspired?  Do you plan on making your own Shinning Maze?  Do you have your own maze design you want to share?  Sound off in the comments and happy tapping.  I’m off to more spooky designing and tapa-tapa-tapping.

  1. Unrelated but I am so excited and drooling over the ear candy. Danny Elfman’s Works within Tim Burton Films on my local PBS station!!!! It’s on right now and needed to share this because it’s so frigg’n awesome 😀

  2. I’m working on maze connected to the one we received, not too happy with it yet. Wookiee yours looks great.
I reread the Shinning while waiting for release of Dr. Sleep. Been awhile since I’d read the Shinning just as good & scary second time around. Loved Dr. Sleep, of course it was Stephen King!
I’ve seen the movie so many times know it by heart! (First version with Jack, he was so awesome). First time saw movie was in small town that has no street light lots of big trees & bushes, was scared walking back to hotel!
Happy Halloween Eve everyone, stay safe!

  3. I have a Pix of that item I saw in my neighbors town nut how do I give you moderators a Pixs. I don’t believe my comment should be banned but I’ve never seen any of my comments. And I’ve tried posting on Ttso for along time.

  4. I do plan to make a maze out of all those bramble hedges I’ve been accumulating. After I get some time to nuke and rebuild… maybe early next year.

  5. It’s a start… http://i.imgur.com/unaYCpx.png

    • Well done. I like Agnes feeding the pigeons in there. Now you just need Moe or Zutroy hiding out in the bushes…

  6. My campfire is doing some major (good) glitching today. My campfire has leveled up three times in the last couple of hours. Lisa is telling a story. I’m not sure what to make of this. At one moment, the meter will say 6 of 200 snakes needed to level up. Then the next time I check it, it says “done”. Then it says 0 of 200 bunny ears needed. Then I check it again (later) and it says “done” , and it gives me another level up prize, etc. I think it’s leveled up at least 4 times today, and I haven’t even been playing the game all that much today.

    • I myself am having issues with Tapped Out. I have been working to get all the quests done but have only received one tent. Also, i’m pretty sure I got denied twice on the hedges I should have gotten. I should have gotten a dragon balloon a couple quests back and never got it. So I’m pretty much doing the same thing two or three times before getting my prize. Lots of thumb work, little reward.

  7. I’ve had my own hedge maze for quite a while now – it leads to the Bad Dream House and has various hazards and evil-ish things peppered throughout, like the tentacle tree, gargoyles, a snake rock, the buried body and Olmec Head. Might have to make some kind of add-on with all these brambles I have now.

  8. I have a maze made with bramble hedges. The only way into the campground (that has the campfire) is through the maze. I might make it bigger depending on how many hedges I end up with. Right now the tower is at the end of the maze, but if I make it bigger it will be in the middle.

    • While not exactly a full maze, I’m making a M’nthster theme park from brambles, craftables, prizes and store items. It’s coming along nicely but I don’t want to fill in too much before I see what Act III has to offer.

  9. I kinda did similar, but with a combination of the Shinning maze, surrounded by the large hedges made into a maze pattern. Makes for a slightly smaller, yet larger than the actual Shinning maze, maze.

  10. Did the same with bramble bushes with the gate to nowhere in the middle

  11. I’m also using bramble hedges to build a nifty maze around my gate to nowhere. Campfire is at level 47 and that still hasn’t provided me with enough to complete it yet. Adds good fun to an already fun event. Looks great too. I just did an image search for simple mazes and there endless amounts of fun designs to copy.

  12. I used the Bramble Hedges to make a maze. And they cost nothing!

  13. Wow, when I look at all these Mazes and designs I just want to get out some old crayons and draw all over my screen 😮

I have a Couple of “Where did that come from” questions but they aren’t about looks. the first is about Bart taking a chainsaw through a Maze (not sure if that was from the Shining Parody or not). but the other “WDTCF” questions are about the origin of the Audio Heard when we get the prize and Upgrade our campfire site (Most are Homor voices) but not sure if the “BURN!! Baby BURN!” Is from Homer or the Artistic Arsonist that Marge tried to rehibilitate.

Your reply to any of these inquiries would be most appreciated.

happy Hallows-Eve Wookie, are you going as a Wookie for Halloween or a Spanish Mythical creature, or Both? A Chewbacca Chupacabra! :p

  14. I’ve made a maze out of hedges in Mr Burns back garden. It has only one path to the centre and I keep his vampire crypt in there.

  15. Hey I was in that pineapple maze a few years ago lol

  16. I created one out of bramble bushes & set the mirror the nowhere by it!

  17. Ugh , mazes .like them in the game but got lost in the maze at Hampton Court as a little kid . Quite scary for a while ….

    • I went with some friends after reading Three men in a boat. We started with confidence but ended up arguing, with me feeling claustrophobic. Still, I dare say it entertained other people, a group of panicky Goths bickering their way around Hampton Court!

      • Goths in a maze , love it , there’s a scene I’d like to have seen . To be fair , should have known it was a hard maze to solve when they have a tower alongside so they can guide you out again when you get lost….

  18. Excellent work, Wooks! Btw, Doctor Sleep was such a friggin’ good read! Stephen King is my favourite author, afterall 😀

I had a maze once, then I had to sell the hedges and make room for buildings lol It’s really fun to do

  19. Haven’t read Doctor Sleep yet. I started to but decided I should reread The Shining since its been over 20 years since I read it. I ended up rereading the entire Dark Tower series and now working on books related to that. With the length of Stephen King books, it will be awhile before I get to Doctor Sleep. I watched a show with Adam Savage recreating the shining maze and tried to build one but it got too expensive and then I ended up nuking. I’m still working on redesigning but eventually plan to build a maze. I do like your maze design wookie but will probably make an original when I do.

  20. The shining…One film that’s actually better than the book!

I started to build a maze out of the spooky hedges but got quite annoyed with the gap issue and fit…anyway I threw a little fit of my own and got rid of it lol!

…might try again though as I have a ton of them now ☆

  21. This is so cool! I’ve been planning do to this with the Bramble Hedges, and due to a strange glitch that’s kept my campfire churning them out and nothing else (and I’m only doing zombies, for crying out loud!) I’ve got WAAAAAY more than I’ll ever need!

  22. I read the sequel Wookie, great book.

  23. Here’s my, sort-of, hedge maze. https://i.imgur.com/Wg7ZNeP.png

  24. Better than the original !
    You’re a legend Wookie!

I thought the same, making one with campfire’s free hedges but I couldn’t make a maze-shape so I ended up writing my name lol 😅

  25. I love the shining (book and movie) so I will be definitely adding the maze to my center of town after the event. Probably use the Indian casino as an Overlook Hotel substitute (remember the Overlook was built on an ancient Indian burial ground thus why Jack Torrance was haunted by the spirits). Great idea Wookie.

    • Kim (kimberlyah794)

Awwww, man! I was in the middle of reading “The Shining” for the first time and had never seen the movie! Oh well. Win some, lose some. (No harsh feelings, though! It’s an old book, I just never got around to it before now.)

  26. Great job 🎃 🙂

  27. I have been upgrading my campfire intentionally gathering as many spooky hedges as I can so I could create a maze out of them.
I read Doctor Sleep…. Stephen King never disappoints.

    • I’ve made one out of the hedges, and it’s quite difficult as they’re like fences which means they sit on one side of the square and you can’t build up close to them in all directions without leaving gaps. I got it to work, by copying the in-game hedge for inspiration, but it didn’t look amazing so I tweaked it to leave less weird gaps and open spaces.

    • Same maze project here

  28. My dumb PC here at work won’t show me the pix. 🙁 But I’ve had a hedge maze in my town for all 3 THOHs I’ve been part of. I store most all my THOH craftables and prizes there. Can’t wait to get home and look at yours! And if I’m not too lazy, will post my own pics back at ya.

  29. Gredat idea! Think I might use bramble hedges instead since I just have a ton of those from the event. Thanks for this.

  30. I did this last week with all the Bramble Hedges I had no use for 🙂
