Time to explore a galaxy far far away…as the Space Update teased by EA has hit our games!
This is an IN-GAME UPDATE, so no need to download a new update from the app store (as long as you’ve downloaded the winter removal update. If you’re still seeing snow in Springfield, you won’t see the Space Update).
Kent Brockman will auto-start this for you. After the first part (which is basically instant built), you’ll need Comic Book Guy free to start part 2 and Homer free for the task…which is 6s. At that point you’ll unlock a few of the Deep Space Homer items in the store. Once you complete another 6s task for Homer the “event” itself will start. At least initially, this looks similar to the Thanksgiving Event we had this past year. Where you complete tasks to unlock prizes.
I’ll be back with more details as soon as I go through it all….
It looks like (at least initially) this “event” is 2 weeks long…so it’ll end just in time for a Valentine’s Day Event..
Sorry this took me a little longer than anticipated to update…dealing with a 2 month old who didn’t want to nap today.
First up, from what I can tell by the game script requirements. You have to have Quimby unlocked in order to start this.
So, as mentioned above this is similar to the Thanksgiving Event, where you have to complete tasks in order to unlock prizes. The prize task screen will open for you once you’ve completed Mars Won Pt. 3.

So am I the only person whose tried throwing debris in storage since the update? It use to call me a hoarder and wouldn’t let me, but tonight I was able to store the debris to get it out of my way! Sooo excited about this!

I’ve tried that before too (hoarders unite!), and now I’m also able to store debris. It took me a while to find it amongst my inventory…
I stored all my non-designed debris into storage. At least 100. I’ll have to count.
Note: Krustyland debris still not storeable.
I got the Space Center but when I tried to place it, the app restarted. When I checked the storage, the Space Center wasn’t anywhere [even though it says I DID, in fact, get it]! Does anyone else have problems with this or is it just me?
My app just updated and all the deep space stuff is gone!!!! I used donuts for the Barney astronaut skin and everything is gone!!!! Even my donuts! The quest doesn’t even show up, not even the event!!! I can’t be the only one experiencing this!!!
You’re not. Do a full unistall and reinstall.
I had the same issue. So I’m unable to generate stars (except for Quimby). Any suggestions for a solution?

Thanks Alissa. I have done that and the issue is in the hands of “The Simpsons: Tapped Out specialists team”. They will take care of it and will add the missing items manually to my account, but no timescale given. I hope I don’t get too far behind while waiting.
6 days later and there has been an update, and I now have the NARA building in my account. Not sure when this event is due to end, but not too soon I hope.

I paid in full for Barney, the shuttle and the skin. Do I feel ripped off? No. Do people who paid money have the right to complain, I suppose if that’s how they feel. But if you’re completely freemium don’t complain how long it took you to save up to get him. You’re playing a free game on other people’s dime.
pretty disappointed i dropped 120 donuts on the Space Shuttle Simulator with the skin for Barney (since I already had Barney), it took my donuts, did not give me the item, and now i can’t get started on pt 2 until quimby is done with his second round of “Work Out Payments”. Couldnt’ get EA to give me 2 donuts to rush that task or refund my purchase as it undermined a big part of the reason I purchased it (I wanted to have part 2 going when i was asleep tonight… so not only did i waste the donuts i ended up wasting almost an hour on chat with them… sigh…
Well, I never put any money in the machine… BEFORE NOW! I just bought me a Barney. I’ve got 183 left over donut that I better spend before my toddler does, so I’m between Disco Stu, Jasper and Luann. I like the first 2 for the Heights, but I also like the Inverstorettes opening up. I’ll sleep on it and keep my boy off the Ipad until I decide.
Disco Stu for SH is probably a good choice. Mats become a bottleneck with the marketing agency eating up 2 per person.
I did Luann for Investorettes to get at Fleet of Pita, thinking it would help gluttony at the time. Those little Khlav Kalash stands are a better way to get there. But Luann was helpful at Halloween 2015 and in this space event.
Sorry if I’m repeating but there’s an Easter egg in this event. Bart, Lisa and one or two other people have a task to gather space food. Gives ya 5 🍩s

Can’t be upset about the Barney rebate offer for people who don’t have him, as yep, I may have paid full price for him as my first premium buy many many months ago, but I’ve had all that extra time with him in my game earning what he needed to throughout other events anyway. But, what I don’t like is when EA try to make us pay a substantial (120) amount of donuts for a skin (ok and shuttle) for a character that is already a premium buy! Its a shame because I’m really loving the throw back events/characters from older episodes, and would love to have the skin for Barney but a premium skin for a premium character is a no go zone for me.
Placed the launch pad, got and placed the Space Training center, put Homer, Quimby and the ladies to work… and when I came back, it was all gone. No launch pad, no space center, no potato chips in the air; Homer, Quimby and the ladies were just walking around. Did this happen to anyone else? Is there some explanation/fix? Pleeeease!!
It seems to happen randomly with each event. Try a full uninstall/reinstall see if that helps.
Me too!! Was working on earning stars for the hanger now launch pad and NAR building gone!!
This might not be what happened to you, but that same thing has happened to me when I get a weak internet connection. Maybe you logged off but things didn’t get saved? This happened to me in Family Guy but…who knows… since then I always change screens to make sure it saved.
Thanks for the suggestions; everything is back where it should. I did the full reinstall and I saw a patch appear after that. I don’t know which one made the miracle, but the chips are aloft and the stars are piling up. 😀
Echo so many comments here about freemium players now having to pay for Space Barney Skin. Barney took years to achieve at full fee. Feeling a bit cheated.
That’s the one thing I agree with completely. People who’d already bought Barney really should have gotten him for free. You shouldn’t feel cheated for having bought him at full price, but making you pay again for the costume is just wrong.
That’s so unfair, the costume should be free! How much do they expect for it?

It is always the question of someone else getting something for ‘free’ and you have to pay for it. Yes that is annoying, of course that is annoying, and why would anyone think it would not be? Of course I have had Barney for a long time… I have lost track how many years so it is not nearly as annoying as those who have recently purchased him. Having to pay for costumes for characters? mehh. I have always passed on that, and for a character I paid real money for? double mehhhh.

Has anyone hit an issue where you bought Barney, got deducted the donuts but didn’t get the item? This happened to me. I contacted EA support and they said it’s a known issue and they’re working on it. Though I haven’t seen anyone else complain about this yet…

Yes me spent 250 donates but never got barney or my 130 donates back !! But they took the 250 donates ,
I don’t see the Barney deal, or even the bowlerama at all anymore. I’m assuming that doesn’t show up until the space questline starts? I should be close to getting Quimby and the town hall I hope it all pops up at that point.

I have no idea, I don’t use kindle. But I know many players talk about it here. Perhaps someone from the Community that plays on Kindle can explain… (Sandra?)
You can buy amazon coins at a discount from Amazon.co.uk (just type amazon coins in search bar). It is £4.80 for 500 coins (worth £5)/ £9.50 for 1000 coins (worth £10) and so on, the discount gets bigger the more coins you buy. Then when you are in Tapped Out on your Kindle and tap to get more donuts you should get an option to pay using 1-click or use your amazon coins. That’s how it works here in the U.K. but there doesn’t seem to be a sale in the U.K. boo hoo!
Actually, Amazon Coins is the only way to buy donuts if you have a Kindle. You buy the coins. Then, when you’re in the game and you buy donuts, the cost will be deducted from your coin stash.
For anyone who has the option of using a Kindle, it’s by FAR the best way to buy discounted donuts. First, they almost always (if not always) sell the coins at a discount. (So, for example, 2500 coins, which should cost $25, will sell for $23.50 or something.) Then, they also frequently have a deal that when you make an IAP (like buying donuts) in select games, they rebate part of the cost back to you….usually 15%! So you’re getting a double deal there.
I hit the trifecta last year when there was a Gil’s Deal that offered additional donuts in each of its regular packages (truckload, boatload, etc.). I paired that up with the two types of Amazon discounts and I got a phenomenol donut deal! I’ve been hoping for a repeat (since I think we got that around the Christmas even last time), but Gil hasn’t been forthcoming with his part yet. 🙁
I’m a freemium player. I’m a little bummed that I technically have enough donuts to buy Barney (120), but you actually need to have 250 to start with, and get the rebate, to actually buy him. 🙁
Keep playing and eventually it won’t sting. I haven’t paid in any cash and had about 260 free donuts laying around. So I got Barney. Jokes on EA I was getting near to buying him full price..

Yeah, I know the feeling. I’ve been a long time player, so I’ve bought a lot of stuff using free donuts. Just sad I’m going to miss out on this one (bc of the bonus skin).
It’s not that much to buy the extra doughnuts and you’ll get them back. My husband says its like paying for a movie or going to an arcade if you’re getting your entertainment out of it why wouldn’t you pay?
As a freenium player, if I were to get a 300 donuts boatload, it cost me five meals.
This event is so near, my donuts are exhausted..
Yeah – even with that great donut Gil’s Deal last year and the Amazon advantages on top of it, I drew the limit at buying just a truckload. I know a boatload is a better deal (dollars to donuts), but I wasn’t comfortable spending that much money on the game.
I am beyond tickled that “dollars to donuts” becomes literal in this scenario.

Cynthia / Sean, right there with you… have been wanting to add Barney for ages but have never as a pure freemium had that many donuts in the 2 an’ a half years-or-so, and every time I go to my build menu Barney’s “Winter” costume is there waiting.
Same here. I’ve got 34 donuts just now – I would only need a tray of 132 at £7.99 to buy him at 120 (and have a few to spare) but instead I’d have to buy a truckload of 300 at £14.99 and then have loads (unneeded) left over. Even though the cost per donut reduces a lot as you buy more, spending 15 quid just to get one piece of content makes no sense, even if it does leave me with 200 donuts “in the bank”.
I’m happy for everyone getting the great deal on Barney…but man, I do wish that those of us who have him already could at least get the skin :/ I’m (mostly) freemium and got Barney with entirely freemium-earned donuts, bummer . Between this and Frink’s deal, I have to say, I’m a bit salty

EA has been knocking it out of the park for the events following the dismal act three of THOH though.

Hahah I love reading all these comments. So many of us take this game so seriously! I’m one of them too. Im not mad I already had Barney and paid full price. But, I am very mad that I have to pay 120 to get his skin when others get it for free with a discount on Barney. That’s unacceptable. I have not given in even though I want it.
It should be free for those who paid full price for barney if it’s free for those who paid a discounted price for Barney!
I’m mostly mad at myself for playing a game by a company I despise so much. I usually stick to my guns and do not support what I don’t approve of. The Simpsons are really my Achilles heel!

Nope. Bowlarama with Barney skin = 250, Space Shuttle = 75. There’s no bundles.
I got the same – bought Bowlarama and Barney for 250 – 130 and got the Barney astronaut skin automatically. I think it’s a glitch. Or maybe just a massive discount for those of us without Barney.
It is just a heck of a deal if you didn’t have Barney, but not a glitch.
I am surprised that EA did not give the Barney skin/shuttle for free to those of us who already had him. Or give the skin for free and sell the shuttle. Is there a “complaint” page for this yet? I guess the almighty dollar wins again! Enough griping, would ya?

So I finished cheap space homer part 1 but the space training center isn’t unlocked or anywhere to be found. Cheap space homer part 2 quest line has started but I can’t send Homer, Marge, Miss Hoover or Luann on tasks because the building is missing.
Any ideas?

I too am one of those who have played freemium for 2+ years and JUST bought Barney at full price at Christmas when I realized there was no deal coming with him. Feeling pretty sour about that…
Also not thrilled about having yet another skin for Homer that I’ll never be able to use, as he’s used for every part of every event, and SH, and the rail yard. Come on EA, give some love to the other 200(?) characters in the game!
Holding my remaining donuts for Brandine if she comes back this Valentine’s Day. Which means EA will offer her at a discount randomly soon after lol.
Complaining aside though, Deep Space Homer is one of the best episodes ever.I still do the “dialing the number twice” bit when on the phone (with those who get the joke of course).

I got the update earlier in the day, started the event (placed the launch pad), but didn’t start Homer because he was busy… Then I got another update later and just realized now that it took the event out of my game, even the launch pad. I hope the deals are still there whenever the redownload happens for me :/ Came here to see if this happened to anyone else… Guess not.

I dropped 250 donuts on Barney a long time ago. Am I ripped off? Not really. I scored a massive boost to my %age from Table Tennis tables and Wailing Walls. In fact, I more than tripled my percentage gained without spending a single ‘nut. You win some. You lose some.
Not ripped off no, but some have commented, unless I read them wrong, that they got the space suit with the bowlarama. Which would then make it free. I really don’t think those that paid full price for Barney, even if it was months ago, should have to shell out even more money for the skin if that’s all you want.
