Should I Spend Donuts On the Wild West Film Set & Buck McCoy?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

YeeHaw!  The Wild West has arrived in our pocket-sized Springfields!  With bandits to tie up, guns to sling, gold to pan & gold ole’ Homer getting everyone all riled up! So bust open the vaults and grab those donuts because there are loads of new Wild West themed premium items in our stores!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Buck McCoy and the Filmset to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this Real McCoy to your town.

Wild_West_Film_Set charactersets_buckmccoy

Building/Decoration: Wild West Film Set
Character: Buck McCoy
Donut Cost:
150 Donuts
Size: 7×10
Earns: ico_wildwest_bandit_md every 4hrs
Conform-O-Meter Impact: Vanity +500

Leaves stores on May 30th…but the earlier you buy the better

Pros
-Comes with a questline
-Fun animated tasks
-Buck will use the Filmset (visual animation there and non)
-Film set produces extra bandits for your town…which means extra event currency
-Buck can earn currency at the town plaza (at a premium rate)

Cons
-Pricey
-Buck is a 1 off character, so it may be hard to justify spending 150 donuts on him
-4 bandits every 4hrs really isn’t that great of a return on your investment

Final Thought:
Premium:
Buck isn’t a bad buy.  150 donuts is a bit steep, but at least he can help with the event and it’s a character combo.  (after the event the Film Set should earn cash/xp)  If you’re going to get him, I’d get him sooner rather then later so he can be the most useful to you during the entire event.

Freemium:
This is one of those Freemium toss ups.  It is pricey, but it does help with the event overall.  However, unless you’re a really big fan of the episode Buck McCoy was in, I’d pass.  150 donuts, in my opinion, is too much to pay for a 1 off character for freemium players.  Those donuts are much to valuable!

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would/wouldn’t do.  And I can tell you I’m on the fence with this one.  Still debating it myself, but I’ll probably make my final decision before the weekend.  (so he can be the most helpful for the entire event)  Just make sure that you pick him up sooner rather then later if you’re thinking about getting him.  The sooner he’s in the game the more beneficial he’ll be to you!

Note: Buck does come with a questline.  Personally I think you should hold off on completing the questline until the event is over (it’ll still be around), so that you can use Buck at the Town Plaza to help you earn Event Currency…

Here’s a look at Buck’s Permanent Tasks:

  1. Does anyone know what Frink’s Spider does or if it’s worth the donuts? 150 for a character and building combo may sound high, but his spider is 130.. which seems a little way too unreasonable if it only gives Frink a task.

  2. When the hints started pointing to this being a western event, Buck was the first person I thought off for them to offer as a new character. I liked his episode and will definitely be getting him. Also thanks EA for not taking the easy way out and giving him a visual, be drunk around town task. We already have quite a few of those.

Only regret, after watching the episode again, he had a pretty cool house that would’ve fit perfectly in my Heights rich neighborhood.

  3. I bit the bullet and bought him early so I would get the most benefit out of him. I like the fact that he earns double the currency and has his own tasks after this event.

  4. Is Buck voiced? If I missed it in the article I’m sorry.

  5. Benny Præstegaard

Anyone else have the game broken by Updating?
A lot of things are just black boxes 🙁

  6. Ohhh this is so tempting!!! But 150 sprinklies? :/ if it was just a wee bit cheaper I would definitely buy it… But as for now I’m on the fence.

  7. Mine shows it gives 5 robbers ever 4 hours.

    • When you upgrade your town plaza, all the buildings that produce the bandits get extra bandits!

  8. Picked it up right away. I think it’s well worth the sprinkles for what it does both during the event and after. Plus I can’t earn that golden character set check mark without it 😀

  9. Shadowstar Steampunk

I’m a hundred donuts short of this, since it looks like there won’t be any event bonuts to earn I guess this Wild West Film Set will be as dead as Buck McCoy’s modern film career, at least in my Springfield . . . Too bad, I would have liked to add Buck to my town, oh well.

  10. Will the bandits be in all 3 acts for sure? Since this generates bandits and he earns event currency (assuming he has a job in acts 2&3) I’m thinking about getting this as I’ll be traveling during act 3

    • Unless this event works differently than every other event I’ve been through in the almost 2 years, I would say that it will continue to earn event currency throughout all three acts. Even if the bandits aren’t there (and I would strongly doubt there), whatever they’re replaced with will be what this item earns during the event.

I’m not EA, so I can guarantee it, but I’d bet real money that that’s what will happen.

    • I would presume of other events he will still earn event currency in different acts because he is premium

  11. Looks like some fun animations, but I’ll probably pass, since there are too many other things I’d rather get and it doesn’t look like I’ll need the help with the event (if things continue as they are).

    • At first a film set was the only way I could think of to realistically incorporate Wild West styled buildings into my Springfield, so I was thinking it was necessary. Now I’m going with a tourist attraction a la Olde Springfield Towne. Hopefully I don’t regret holding onto my sprinkles for something else, and once again living vicariously through my Neighbors.

      • That’s exactly what I’m doing with it! I live in Texas, and when I was little my grandparents took us to some little ‘ghost town’ touristy things that were just a little cluster or street of old west type buildings, and that’s what these reminded me of.

  12. With all the free donuts we’re now able to earn – I had decided that I was going to buy at least 1 premium item on the next event so I got this as soon as it was available 😊

  13. This is a bit off topic, but I bought Belle, because it said she has a job in this event and I wanted her for a long time, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity. But now her job doesn’t show! Will it just unlock later or is it a mistake???

    • Remember that the Saloon unlocks tasks as you Update. I am still running through it so I don’t know exact Level just yet myself, but lots can help as those Tasks unlock. 🙂

  14. For me, a big no. It would be a maybe if there were bonuts earned at the end of each Act. That could be justified by helping offset the high price. As it is, I’ll probably have many days of doing nothing in between Act 1-2 and 2-3. Which is also fine.

  15. I bought it because while my town is a mess right now- I have plans to make a Universal Studios type area again- More movie sets with the other odd items arranged like a prop area plus placing the escalator and Krusty tram just like the actual park

    • I’d love to see that when it’s done! It sounds like a really great idea, it would probably put my Krustylu studio lot to shame.

  16. Hey Guys, I have The Best Idea for this year’s Halloween Event. Krusty Turns Krustyland into a Haunted Theme Park and accidentally causes his Theme Park Zombie Robots to actually Try to Attack the People. I have the perfect Idea for Lisa’s Dialogue. “Guys, it looks like This Year’s Halloween event is about zombie Robots. The Simpsons: ahhhh!!!!!
” Also the event takes place in Krustyland.” The Simpsons: AHHHHH!!!!

    • Krustywhat? Last year’s Halloween was a big enough letdown. Let’s not involve the land whose name must not be spoken.

      • If Level 60 were to magically happen, would you be happy or disappointed if it was a new Krustyland Character?

        • Super, ultra, mega, über, very, very, very disappointed. I’d rather never get level 60. I can’t express how much I don’t like that place.

          • Did you have a bad experience at a theme park as a child, Ryan? Did you get separated from your parents (actually, now I’m thinking of that fairly recent episode with Lisa having the bad experience like that)?

            • The Halloween episode this year was Lisa.

I’ve never been into theme parks. Just not my thing. But really I do like my Krustyland items just don’t like the way it’s like a separate game.

To me The Heights and Krustyland were kind of opposites. Where The Heights were just over the mountains, the game play and items fell flat. Krustyland on the other hand has some great items but I’m not taking a shuttle.

              • Lol – you make the shuttle sound like a two-hour bus ride in the summer with no air conditioning!

              • LOL. It’s not the ride, it’s where you end up after the ride. It’s like going to visit my boyfriend’s mother. The busses are much nicer than the city busses but when I get off the bus I’m in, uggghh, Jersey.

              • Hey there is nothing wrong with Jersey…

              • Depends on which part. Some absolutely lovely parts and some definitely not so lovely parts.

              • lol that’s every state. There’s no state (actually probably no place) that’s completely perfect. Everywhere has good parts and bad parts…

              • I was thinking of you as I wrote that. With Love.

              • Oh I could feel you smirking at me as I read it..

              • But you said you like your Krustyland items! So can’t you arrange them nicely and do some decorating and such, so it looks nicer to you? I’ve seen some pretty impressive, attractive looking Krustylands among my neighbors… (Mine’s not too bad…small, but reasonably attractive. But certainly nothing special…I kept the footprint small and didn’t buy any premium items for it.)

Not that I really care what you do with your Krustyland, but it seems like such a sore spot for you, and maybe it doesn’t have to be…

              • Not interested in going there. Doesn’t feel like Tapped Out to me. I just worry they’ll do an event around it. A level, I could deal with but not a month and a half.

          • From The the signs, I’ve come to the conclusion that, you don’t like Krustyland. It must be Dissapointed for people who Bought The Premium Rides that now collect dust. (Including Myself)

            • I bought all the premium stuff. And I love my rides but I don’t like having it be like a different game. It doesn’t feel like part of my Springfield. And I understand and respect people like it, I just have a different opinion (and it’s a strong one).
I think the best way for EA to appease everyone is to just get rid of the idea only certain things can be in certain areas. For me, I want my Krustyland rides in my Springfield. My entire heights area has no buildings (besides a couple of Spooky houses) except 5 monorail stations each with their own line of track so it’s nothing but monorails swirling around surrounded by decorations. It needs a redesign ever since they added the Christmas station anyway. However I’d love to design my monorails around the rides. Either that or place the rides along my beach next to the boardwalk and make my own little Coney Island.
Any way about it give us the flexibility. Put it on the water, who cares. Boardwalk, dirt, grass, Krustyland, whatever it seems more like it annoys people and that’s no way to run a business.

        • Happy, because they can make $/XP in Springfield. 🙂

  17. Thank you 😃🔫 🚂🚃🚃🚃 🐎 🐎

  18. I got the Wilted Rose and it has hilarious dialogue, and Agnes unlocks a hilarious new 4 hour task and it comes with a 4 part questline that uses Belle. The only problem is that on the the last part of the Questline her new animated Job pays at premium, but after the questline ends it doesn’t pay premium anymore. So if you get the Wilted Rose, I suggest not completing part 4 and just keep sending her on her task until EA patches it. (Part 4 involves “Agnes Fans” to go to the Wilted Rose, so don’t send them, only send Agnes until EA patches it)

  19. This was a quick buy because I already have Krustylu Studios and the original Film Set and immediately a movie back lot came to mind. I’m sporadically working on getting all the available land for SH to make that area a Las Springfield/and now Studios entertainment destination area. Complete with a Monorail to go between the two of them.

  20. Mmmm i don’t know if buy him or not, because Luke Stetson appears in the character’s photo and I think he will be premium and… i don’t have enough donuts for both.

I would love to know since the begining of an event which skin/character are premium and which are prizes because i don’t want to waste my bonuts… ^^’

    • Luke will be premium, so hold onto those bonuts.

      • I’m more interested in that little cowgirl, whoever she is…wonder if she’ll be premium or a prize?

        • If memory serves, there was an episode where the Simpson’s visit a dude ranch and Lisa has a crush on a boy and is devastated when this cute, cool cowgirl comes along to salt her game. Someone named them in the comments on the FB teasers I think.

        • Where did you see her, Sandra? I don’t see a cowgirl in the character sets.

        • That set includes Gummy Joe, Luke Stetson, Longshot Skinner, Buck McCoy and Tumbleweed. Poor Luke, he gots mistaken for a girl. I wish we could get his sister Clara. Sorry Sandra. 🙁

  21. I like having a second film set in my Springfield. And buck is one of the characters I hoped to have with the event. Picked it up in a second.

The other was the duelist Homer glove slapped…his name escapes me at the moment…but I hope to have him and his RV!

  22. Question to those who bought this: when Buck is doing his “Demonstrate Stunt Riding” task does the scenery on the film set scroll by?

So torn about buying this or wait and see if EA has anything cooler coming. I also wonder if when Luke is released if he’ll have a horseback riding task. Ooh just don’t know what to do.

  23. Scooped this up pretty much as soon as released. Made more value sense to me than the other hollywood set that only comes with a skin. This one you get a character, and visual tasks. Very happy with this purchase, although yes it is a tad pricey.

  24. Personally, I didn’t care for the episode or the character. Pass for me.

  25. Thanks! I was waiting on this post to see if I’m missing anything great by not getting this combo. I’m often a sucker for limited time characters or unique buildings but I’m not visually impressed enough with this even to spend donuts.
I am loving the dirt paths and roads though!

  26. I think as you level up your town plaza, this produces more bandits every 4 hours. I haven’t bought it, but in the store for me it says 4hr / 5 bandits (all the other bandit-producing buildings produce 5 now for me too)

  27. I couldn’t resist this! Had to get it! Love all the animations and in my view it is one of the best buys in this update! On that point – there aren’t that many good buys with this update and the premium items are a bit disapointing! Thanks Alissa!!!

  28. I’d add as another Pro that it would look good along with the Film Set for those who want to make a studio lot.

  29. Yup, I bought him right away. I don’t tend to incorporate items into my town until events are over, so it’s all just sitting next to each other for now to make tapping easy (Las Vegas pieces as well, as I’ll be building a big desert section), but eventually that set will go into my film compound.

  30. I can’t wait to see the animations. Love the one where he has the gun in his feet. Until then he’s busy making event currency.
