Wild West 101: General Store (Act 2)

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Time to hitch up the wagons and head out west, because the Wild West has hit our Springfields! With bandits to tie up, guns to sling, gold to pan & gold ole’ Homer getting everyone all riled up!

With so many layers to this event, it’s easy to get confused with what’s going on.  But, that’s where we come it!  To guide you through the ins and outs and break it all down in a manageable way, that anyone can quickly understand.

In this post we’re going to break down the General Store, for Act 2.  By the time we’re done you’ll have the ins, the outs & and the know how to fully understand why you’re getting a cleaned out message for Act 2!

So let’s get to it shall we?

General Store Large

We broke the basics down in another post already. So if you’re still confused on the General Store check out this post

So let’s start with the changes for Act 2….

The General Store comes with prizes.  Prizes you’ll unlock each day just by doing hand ins at the store.

Here’s a look at the 14 Prizes you can unlock during Act 1:

Day 1

Days 2, 6 & 9

Prizes will repeat when Act 3 hits, as well as some new ones will hit.  So, if you see something you like chances are it’ll come back around 🙂

Also, if you miss a day…you can go back and get that prize.  So don’t panic if you miss a day or 2.  You will be able to go back and get them 🙂 (as long as it’s in the same act.  Don’t skip the donuts because they will disappear when Act 3 starts if you didn’t get them yet)

Now let’s talk about the caps…..

If you see this message popup in your town

2016-04-21 21.12.46

DON’T PANIC!!  This just means you’ve reached your Badge cap from the General Store for the day, and you can earn more tomorrow.  Think of this as EA’s way to slow you down, and prevent you from speeding through the Act in 1 day.

This Event is fairly easy, as in you shouldn’t have a problem earning enough Deputy Badges to earn all of the prizes before Act 2 ends (As long as you regularly tap…remember it takes regular tapping to unlock everything.  You can’t just play once a day and expect to get everything)

So What Are The Caps for Each Day?

ico_mhub_generalstore

Here are the Deputy Badge earning caps for Act 2 (Remember these are via the General Store only.  There is no cap on Badges you can earn via tapping bandits…)

Day Deputy Badge Cap
1 2,700
2 5,400
3 8,100
4 10,800
5 13,500
6 16,200
7 18,900
8 21,600
9 24,300
10 27,000
11 30,200
12 33,400
13 36,000

After Day 13 the cap is essentially lifted…as Day 14 you can get up to 144,000

This is a running total.  So if you skip a day you’ll be able to collect the Clues to make up the difference.  Basically you can earn between 2,200 and 2,600 Clues per day you can earn via the General Store (until you get to the last day, which then shows the caps are essentially removed).

And there you have it my friends the breakdown for the Act 2 General Store caps…

What are your thoughts on the General Store?  Are you unlocking your prizes each day?  Have you capped out?  How’s your Badge count coming along?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Welp, I took the nuclear option. Literally. I nuked my town and pulled back out just the characters needed for the event. And STILL can’t visit neighbors. EA help just sent me instructions about clearing my cache.

I downloaded the free CCleaner for Kindle and used it, no improvement. It did however show me that my RAM is very high, while my regular storage is only 50% full. Any suggestions for reducing the amount of RAM being used without destroying my device?

I am going to contact EA again and ask for a specialist, see if I get anywhere.

    • Check to see which apps are running in the background (Settings, Applications, Installed Applications, then select Running Applications in the drop-down menu) and force close anything you don’t need (and that isn’t an app that comes with the Kindle) Also, try the free Clean Master app – it’s the app I use, and I don’t really have problems running TSTO on my KFHD7 (original version).

      • Yep, did that. Once I nuked my town, I was actually able to reach my ‘neighborhood’. But now when I tap on a town, the game crashes. It has to be a bad file. I have closed everything I possibly could, my device only runs on WiFi, and I have a very minimal town to load now. And I’ve been told twice that my case has been sent to the studio team for investigation, but I have no clue what good that does since they’re too busy to communicate their findings. So with 30 hours left in Act 2, I still haven’t built my jail, don’t have any big bad criminals, can’t send Snake to promote lawlessness and haven’t collected any guns.

I really want to love this event, it’s so different from past ones, but I can’t even play the way it’s meant to be played so that kind of kills it for me.

  2. Hi, I have a question. I’ve been sending prospectors to my friends towns and have been getting different amount of prices for them tapping the prospectors (within the few minutes of me dropping them), is it because I’ve been sending too much in the 24 hour period that the town has to restart itself or is it always random?

  3. I’m now lack of guns for exchanging clues. When I go to general store, they normally asked me hats and pickaxes for clues. That time I was always short of hats than pickaxes but was ok because I can produce them by sending Homer and others to earn hats. But guns?? I can only earn them by tapping bandits, am I right? So now I wonder if general store ask me guns every time, is it possible to collect all the prizes at the general store?

  4. I seem to always need hats when exchanging for clues and can’t generate enough no matter what I do, generally I can only do one or two exchanges and won’t let me do anymore because it’s always wanting hats hats hats, anyone else have this issue?

    • pinballinggrrl

I’m having the same problem, except it’s pickaxes instead of hats. Makes it hard to set up big swaps.

  5. I may be missing something, but does anyone know why there might still an exclamation point on the Saloon icon in the top right corner? I’ve got everyone eligible for a resource generating task working, but the exclamation point is still there. It seems that normally it’s only there if somebody eligible isn’t doing anything. Thanks.

    • It means there’s a Character that “potentially” could be on a Task in there that’s not on a Task now. I see it too now and then even though I can’t send them. But once sent on an alternate task… it’ll go away.

  6. Maddiethecool101

Question for the experts: do you have any numbers on how many donuts it takes to aquire each prize in Act 2? We are still having major issues with the Wild West event. Act 1 tasks gone since 4/28 including bandits, prospectors, ability to earn pick axes and hats, event store, etc – not to mention SH! EA has now elevated it from the specialists to the experts (apparently a few people have this issue). However, we may not be able to craft at all (no axes/hats) and kids really want Princess. Just wonder how many donuts ($) this might cost. Thanks!

    • Let me add them up. Usually it’s between 1400 to 1600 donuts

      • Maybe, maybe, MAYBE, EA will be in a very, very, VERY generous mood an give those 1.600 donuts.🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩
EA gave me 100 donuts extra after the failed buy of the Hooternanny Bar, so it may be possible.

        • Maddiethecool101

Thanks! I might send the kids back to EA with hat in hand …. Right now I have the strangest urge to visit Dunkin’ Ds 😄

      • Maddiethecool101

Thank you! EA tech specialists (and now up to tech experts) have been trying to fix this. A few more days of before the big donut debate (that’s a lot of Donuts). Keeping fingers crossed that those Bandits will make a comeback soon.

  7. Anybody else having problems.after the update, i am getting a screen asking for your age, after entering your age and selecting continue it just hangs. I see on the web people had this problem back in 2012& 2014??? Talked to EA they said my acct is ok could be iPad problem

  8. is it worth dropping prospectors off at “the other springfield” neighbor or am i just losing prospectors doing that? i dropped of like 2 at one time and didn’t actually see anything pop up on the screen in my neighborhood, so i’m not really sure it there were any returns on them. do you know? thanks.

    • It still takes 4hrs to time down… but you’d get more benefit from a neighbor drop

      • thanks. another question: my tablet is “talking” to me and it’s really disturbing. did i miss out on some sort of update to the game? it will shout out at me every now and then (even though tsto is muted). specific shouts i’ve heard so far are: “yahoo” and “better you than me” .. what is this??? and how can i make it stop.

        • Hey, bbyktty
The game has always talked, usually Homer telling you something has happened. I’ve noticed during the events it talks a bit more, this event has “Yahoo” when a prospector has been dropped in your Springfield.

        • I think you have to mute notifications or something

Also, you might have to go in your device app manager and turn off notifications in there.

        • It’s in the Push Notifications bit. It tells you when a Prospector has been dropped (Yeehar) and when someone finishes a job (Better them than me). There are others too, e.g. it tells you when a neighbour visits, when the dog race is ready, when the rocket can be launched, TV and radio programmes finish, etc.
On my tablet I just turn the Alarm volume right down, but you can also switch the Push Notifications off by clicking on the build menu and then on the cog (top right).

  9. Not really important, but is the 2700 a hard cap or a soft cap.
That is, if I have 2600 points, and I choose a task that pays 300 points…
Do I wind up with 2700 points (hard cap), or, (and unable to,earn more)
Do I wind up with 2900 points (soft cap) (and unable to earn more)

  10. Still no Act 2 storyline. I am earning dailies and progressing through the prize track with no problem, so what am I actually missing by not being able to complete the storyline? Anyone else in the same boat?

    • What Questlines are you working on? Name and part #s?

      • Still stuck back on Once Upon a Time in Springfield Pt. 7 or whatever # is the mission to drop prospectors on neighbors. Can’t do it, crashes game every time. I have unlocked Outlaw Snake and finished his questline, but that’s it. Nobody has tried to build the town square jail, and when I click on the Finale tab (with the film reel) it says ‘Finish Fistful of Bothers’ to see the Act 2 finale!’ When I tap ‘Do it’ the screen jumps to the town square, but nobody pops an exclamation point or anything. Chatted with EA help last week, the person was like ‘Sorry, it sucks, but keep trying, we’re working on it.’ So really not helpful.

        • I would suggest the basic tips I offer for troubleshooting crashing issues to see if it helps. Even if you just do this for the Event. I know I’ve suggested them to you before, so I would go further with it… including storing MORE items away. Tuck entire areas in storage if possible. The less in your town, the less struggle your game has.

          Crashing Tips
Store items from your town to limit memory use, especially animated items and Characters not in use.
Keep Characters on INDOOR Tasks to avoid memory use.
Keep Decorations under the 5500 Min Limit to help keep memory use low.

Make sure TSTO is the ONLY app currently running on your device.
Use a solid strong signal, like WiFi for connection.
Give the app at LEAST 2-3GB of open space on your devices internal storage.

If your game is saved to an account, clear all cache and data uninstall, restart your device to ensure all is gone, and then reinstall the game after you do this. Get rid of any “extras” or “corrupted files” that may be on your device. Let me know if that helps.

          • I will work on emptying my town. It’s about the only thing I haven’t done to this point. I have uninstalled/cleared cache/reinstalled five times since the event started, stored my NPC’s as soon as the update hit, and always have plenty of storage since I only play on Kindle. And I don’t think it can run multiple apps concurrently, but I will look to see if there’s a way to hard close everything before opening TSTO.

As always thank you for giving us somewhere to go with these issues and really trying to help!

            • I will tell you this… Kindles fill up FAST with Memory. Really really fast. Most can’t handle the game as well as other devices from my experience. I had to pretty much empty my town to get my Kindle to take the game and not have issues… so I stopped using it and stick with my Android Devices that have expandable memory on them.

          • Just double checked storage, I have 10.3 GB free. Of 27.5 total.

            • Then I would say it is within the game itself…and possible the WiFi you play on. It needs a steady strong signal and lots of wiggle room in Springfield to be able to function properly. Just keep trying to see what happens. If it can help you play and at least get through the Event, that would be worth it I hope?

          • So I cleared out a bunch of stuff out of my town, game still crashing when I tap neighbor icon. Kindle is Wi-Fi only, so it rarely leaves the house. We have the fastest internet speed available from our provider and I usually sit right above our router when I play. I do think there’s a bad file somewhere, but I don’t know how it can be fixed when I have uninstalled/cleared caches/reinstalled new so many times already.

I had no idea Kindle routinely has so much difficulty with this game. My only other device is an iPhone, and that’s a 4s with a minimal amount of storage so I’ve never bothered playing it on that.

I will try storing more stuff from town. At this point I think the only thing EA help could possibly do for me would be some kind of rollback which would undo all the progress on the event I’ve made, which is really unattractive to me.

            • I have a Kindle Fire HD (original 2012 edition) and it plays TSTO just fine, even though I have jammed full of other apps, too. I did get the 32GB one, instead of the 16GB one, so maybe that helps. I will admit that it’s a bit slower than my iPad 4 at playing TSTO, but that’s usually only particularly noticible if I’ve been playing for a while without a reboot and there’s a lot going on in the game.

            • One more thing… Do you have a memory manager app on your Kindle? I know they say that a Kindle shouldn’t need one, but I have a couple (that do slightly different things) and they’re helpful for freeing up memory (or optimizing it for TSTO) without doing a reboot.

          • @sandrashill, that’s the same version I have, the original Kindle Fire HD 8.97″ from 2012. And it’s only some events that I have trouble with my game. Everyday downtime is no problem, and I didn’t have any trouble with the Vegas update, the space exploration or the firehouse update. They ran perfectly. Christmas was rough and I missed a couple attractions and prizes, including Gerald. What memory manager do you run on your Kindle?

  11. I really hope we get the coyote from the vision quest episode.

  12. The best part of this event are the rock formations.
The final prizes so far are sursprisingly not worth panicking trying to get.
So a pretty calm yet still enjoyable event for me.

  13. Katie Soukup

I do not know if I shoukd post this question here, but here goes… I downloaded the Wild West update right when it was available and have been happily playing. I’ve experienced no glitches and I’m progressing nicely. But the other day I was in the App Store updating other apps when I saw an update for TSTO and it was the same Wild West update. I didn’t want to update again because I was afraid of glitches. I just didn’t know if I’m missing important content. Thanks.

  14. I hoped we will get another (khm khm freemium khm khm), wild west themed monorail station… 🙁

  15. I haven’t hit the cap yet and I have no plans to even try. I earn the daily prize, using the biggest trades, then stop. On the last day of the act I’ll trade until I earn the final prize. Since you need to make daily trades, if you want the daily prize, and since any badges earned after the last main prize are wasted (no bonuts), I’d rather save my resources. Thanks to doing this in act 1, I have enough hats and pick axes to, hopefully, last the rest of the event. I can focus solely on earning guns this act and whatever currency is needed in the next act.

    • But doesn’t it all work out the same in the end? If you spend them asking the way, or wait until the end of the act to spend them, it’s still gonna cost the same amount of event currency to get there. I spent along the way (although not up to the cap…just hit that for the first time today) and also ended up with tons of currency to go into this act with. The caps keep you from spending more than a certain amount anyway.

      • Let’s say you earn the final main prize with 5 days left in the act (if you keep hitting the cap every day you will earn it early, I don’t know when). For the next 5 days you still need to make daily trades, unless you don’t want the daily prizes. And I know you want the donuts. So, for those 5 days, even if you’re making the smallest trades, the badges earned from them are wasted. More importantly, the resources used for those trades are wasted. By waiting, all my trading will also go towards the final prize and not be used in excess of it. I tried to explain this on the open thread…guess I didn’t do a very good job of it lol. Maybe Becca does a better job of it than me… https://tstoaddicts.com/2016/05/03/wild-west-101-town-plaza-jobs-act-2/comment-page-1/#comment-456074

        • I’m doing exactly the same as you. I’m still holding out hope that there will be bonuts at the end of act 3 – if there are our strategy might pay off, otherwise nothing lost. There’s no benefit to me in getting prizes earlier, I’m finishing way too quickly as it is. One week would be more than enough for each act but two…? I know I have a good few characters, especially compared to new players, but 2 whole weeks is at least 4 days too long.

    • Aafreen Inayat

No offense but I dont see the benefit in your strategy. I also earn badges using ALWAYS the biggest trades (the option on far right) and I hit the daily cap. My logic is that i want to earn all the Act 2 prizes asap

Once I get all the Act 2 prizes, the only need to win is the daily prizes, and then, I will only use the smallest traders (the option on far left) which uses the least resources

There are quests associated with some of the Act prizes (e.g. Outlaw Snake, Kid with No Name) so the sooner you get them, the sooner you can finish them before Act 3 starts. I dont like seeing pending tasks in my task menu/list

      • The benefit is that I’m saving resources that can be used later and I don’t have to worry about sending people to earn pick axes or hats. The benefit of reaching the daily cap is that you get the prizes earlier. If that’s important to you, then keep doing it. There’s no right or wrong. I don’t mind waiting, or having a task in my task book. Plus, some of these prizes take away characters from earning resources (I know Homer’s does) so I would wait until the event ends to do it anyway. But that’s just me. 🙂

  16. Jamie Boughen

I’ve gotten a little tired of getting so many rocks. Of all the western things there are to choose from, why does EA seem to think we need that many rocks? I placed the first few, but have simply been storing them ever since. Enjoying the event overall because it really is an easy one. Fingers crossed they do a full level update next. I’m tired of being at level 59 for what feels like forever.

  17. Mrfootball70

Weird glitch or part if the event??…but even after doing a uninstall/reinstall trying to “cure” the previous events glitch..it happend again..I got another 13 donuts from the 4th of July event..then as the whacking day event dialogue was replaying and snakes were in my town..i was able to whack snakes for current event rewards and won a “western” snake(gun totin’ and ten gallon hat wearin’) So is that a glitch? Was the western snake part of the original whacking day or is it part of this western themed event!

    • Glitch. Same that gave some players access to act 3.

      • I’m really bummed: I got another “Fake out Bugman” glitch that gave me the start of “Aggression Regression,” and for a wonderful 4 hours I dared hope that it would play the whole thing out and give me Lisa’s Kiddie Car at the end.

Alas, such was not to be.

  18. Not sure if the “cap” for each day is a specific number, or moreso amount of turn-in’s. Today (day 5) I’m capped at 13,305, where your info suggests today should be 13,500. (If I’m reading things right, which I’m probably not… lol)

  19. I wish they didnt put in a cap. I would have at leaar reached cowboy bart by now if ea would let us turn in as much as we can every day.

Other than that, I like this event. Not sure i will keep everything in my town once its done, but its a cool theme for an event. I really like the addition of dirt roads. Now i can have a walking path through my forest.

I just wish level 60 would come out. Its been several months since 59 hit. I dont understand whats taking ea so long with that when they keep releasing events. Oh well. I guess ill keep earning bonuts by passing the bonus level xp goals.

  20. Thank you for all the info. I’m loving this event. It’s well themed, funny, I’m creating a cute little western town with all the prizes, and the easy pace helps with work/life balance. I’m working on Outlaw Snake’s storyline right now. Can’t wait to see what we get in act three!

  21. I capped out for the very first time in this event yesterday.

I switched out a daily task this morning that would have earned me 160 badges…not sure I should have done that. Of course, I got a task that earns cash in its place. *sigh*

But I’m not really worried…so far, this event had been pretty easy.

Just wish they’d offer some other daily trades prizes…too many rocks, and the fences and gates can be bought for cash, so they’re not at all exciting. Did like getting the water trough, though…the horses were thirsty!

    • After someone (maybe you?) suggested it about a week ago, I too started switching out my daily tasks, and it was always donuts….until today 🙁 But, oh well. I’m not really worried about earning the prizes and I have gotten lots of extra sprinklies. I DO wish they’d come back from neighbour visits!

    • Barfly_Larry

You can always ignore that task for today, and tomorrow swap it out again for, hopefully, something better. I know it feels weird not completing one daily task per day, but you can go as many as three days without competing any of them. Of course, you can also run the risk of ending up with three tasks that all “reward” you with Hollywood Rewards or Smart Devices……….

      • Oh, yeah – that’s exactly what I did do. I swapped it again today and it was for badges again…unfortunately, though, for far fewer badges than the original task. And I couldn’t hold either of the two tasks I then ended up with today to maybe swap them, because I would have had to not tap any bandits (for one of them) and not collect any event resources (for the other) and neither of those things were things I want going to do today. So they both automatically completed within my first 15 minutes in the game today.

      • I canceled 180 badges today and got 6 doughnuts for a task for Krusty. H to the E to the double hockey sticks yeah!

    • Barfly_Larry

Just remember that when you switch out prizes, and you don’t like the new one, you can always wait another day and switch it out again. It’s not like you have to do one task per day. The only risk is that you wait three days, and next thing you know you’ve got three tasks that reward you with Hollywood Statues or something equally useless.

    • [RE: sandra] We can buy rock formations?
[RE: jj] Doughnuts from visiting neighbours is still possible, but seemingly rarer. I’ve received 3, since the event started. I remember a time when I’d average a couple of donuts a week.

      • No…I said there were too many rocks and the *gates and fences* can be bought for cash. I didn’t say the rocks could be bought for cash. But, with my tendency towards lengthy sentences, I can understand how you might have been confused if you were reading my comment quickly. 🙂

    • Switching out the tasks has mostly netted me cash, but a few donuts here and there… and today SIX donuts! That was awesome.

  22. I hate the cap. I get why they thought it would be a good idea. But it’s ridiculous because you end up with all of these extra resources in the end and can’t even use them to work toward bonuts. I do, however, like the cap on leveling up the town center. With the other events you never really knew where to stop or what was the best strategy. This one is easy.

    • I completely agree. I don’t necessarily agree with your possessed doll though… 😉

    • As long as you don’t trade them in for unnecessary badges, the resources will give you a huge leap on the next act. Even if you know you could earn enough, this can help give peace of mind.

  23. I seem to have a good rhythm going…I turn in enough to earn the next prize in the store (just got the day 5 rocks), then turn in enough to unlock the next questline prize (Snake’s outfit), then hoard until the next day’s prize unlocks in the store.

I think they balanced this event quite well with the currency. Dare I say it’s my favorite event so far?

    • I think i agree that this is my favorite event so far. I can’t check in at all while i am at work, but i still stay 1-2 days ahead of the calendar, and even grinding the monorail isn’t impossible. It seems to be the best balance they have ever had by a long shot.

  24. I’m totally confused. 😁

  25. barleecreations (canid88)

I like that some of the rocks are animated.

  26. Looks like a forced app-store update just hit (not sure what’s in it)… Although updating hasn’t helped the connection issues I’ve been having for the past hour or so :\

  27. Act is very easy for me since I had 10 k of hats and pickaxes left from Act 1!

    • Yeah, same here… except it just means I hit the cap each day and have to wait 😛

  28. I love the rocks but today’s was huge. Think I may have to reevaluate my plan of how to incorporate them.

    • Same.

Looking forward to the rock formation on Day 8. It looks like it could be the biggest of said decorations (so far).
…Unless, it turns out to follow the newspaper building and Nero’s Casino, and end up looking ridiculously undersized.

      • I’m finding they can help hide the grass around things like the gorge and Mt Carlmore but I need some more of the smaller ones to fill in the spaces.

  29. Hey Addicts. Just a general question about the event if I may:
Is there any indication from the files etc.. whether there will be any crafting in this event? It would be the first event for some time (THOH 2014?) without crafting, but it feels a little late to add into the event now.

Some of the new decorations (specifically all the different rock formations) are great, so it would be nice to be able to obtain more than you are rewarded from the general store trades, even if they have a small donut cost?

  30. I was already capped at 530 am this morning.
    NOOOOO!!! 😩
