Should I Spend Donuts On Big Digi-Ben?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

The nerds have invaded Springfield!  Ok just one nerd, and he’s not all that bad.  And only in Springfield can Professor Frink, with the help of Homer, open up a black hole that transports doppelgangers, robots and Stephen Hawking (!) to our pocket sized Springfields!  So time to crack open those hologram wallets, because there’s a store full of multiverse theme premium items to spend our donuts on!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks as awesome as this because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Big Digi-Ben to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this countdown clock to your Springfield…

Big_Digi-Ben

Building/Decoration: Big Digi-Ben
Donut Price: 115 Donuts
Earns:$55,5xp/1hr
Size: 5×5
Conform-O-Meter: Vanity +400

Leaves stores September 15th

Pros:
-Looks neat, and constantly counts down to when it’s ready to be tapped
-Plays sound when tapped
-Every hour you can tap it and it will clear all robots in your town

Cons:
-Way over priced for what it is/does.
-Really no need for this since the PolyVac clears all the Robots/4hrs

Final Thought:
Premium:
So the only reason to purchase this one is because you like it, or have some affection towards Big Ben.  Otherwise this serves no practical purpose in your Springfield and you really should save your donuts for something better down the line.

Freemium:
Stay away from this one.  It’s not worth the 115 donuts.  Way over priced, and not necessary.  Complete and total freemium pass.  You’re better off spending the donuts to get the LadyBot.  So Fremium players, pass on this one.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do.  And I can tell you I’m passing on this one.  Just doesn’t do anything for me…sorry Big Ben lovers.  Of course whatever you decide just remember this is limited time and will be leaving our games very soon.  So if you’re thinking about grabbing it, do it very soon before it’s gone for good!
What are your thoughts on Big Digi Ben? Have you purchased it?  Where have you placed it in your Springfield?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Anyone know if the Big Digi Ben will remain in the game store after the event for future purchase or it will disappear forever?

  2. What would really be nice is a 24 hr countdown to show when I can visit my neighbor’s towns again.

  3. For 100 maaaybe i would be tempted but its a pass for me, casino with the tower is fine for me.
Im trying to save some sprinkles as ea is constantly dishing out some good buys and im trying to save some sprinkles, wint….. Black friday is comming.

  4. I just caved and bought this. I decided that, combined with a few of those retro townhouses and some other stuff, I could maybe put together some kind of college campus. Also, I was intrigued by the idea of this clock having the real time after the event is over (although I know that’s not definite)….I don’t know why — I’m surrounded by clocks in my bedroom and can check them on at least two different devices — but it felt like it would be really cool to have that link to the real world in my fictional one.

I hope I don’t come to regret spending all those donuts!

  5. I love London, so I bought it. ‘Nuff said. 😉

  6. I love Big Ben and have many pics I took and memories, so passing on this way too expensive. We still have act 3 coming so will hang on to my pink sprinkles.

  7. Got it because I like the look of it, & have plans for a design in my town. Did not get for any other reason. There are so many buildings coming this way now & many I have to put in storage do not want to get anything that is useless in the long run.

  8. I bought it because I log in often and hate searching for the robots! Now that I have it, I find I am gathering currency a lot quicker and spending a lot less time.

  9. Oh wow so that’s the Big Digi-Ben??!!! Lol!!! So I was actually tapping the wrong thing during the glitch.. but regardless of that I was still able to earn some.. Just funny cuz I was tapping on a blue building for the glitch.

  10. Hmmmm…if this does end up showing the time after the event is over, I wonder whether visitors will see the time in their own time zone or in their neighbors’? The latter would be much more interesting!

    • I really want it to be my neighbor’s time zone, but that’s only as useful as far as people who bought it. Too bad it wasn’t a prize track prize, then everyone would have it.

  11. does anyone happen to know if the 3 electric cars come with a bonus%? please and thanks.

    • Josephine Kick@$$

Mine do, I stored the yellow one & my % dropped by 2, so I think all 3 must be out of inventory to get the bonus.

      • 5% for 80 donuts actually seems like a pretty good deal…not quite as good as the jet engine bike, but much closer to that than most things. I’d get them in a heartbeat, if I could put them on the roads, but I may get them anyway, since 5% multiplied by my bonus multipliers and then by the collider ends up being pretty significant, I think!

I’m 5 donuts away from have x+80 donuts (where x is an even multiple of 100), so, maybe when I earn those 5 donuts, I’ll pull the trigger. (I know how silly it is to want to keep things to nice round numbers, but there does seem to be a common human tendency towards that, so I know I’m not alone, lol!)

Now that I think of it, a jet engine bike would make sense to have in a futuristic part of town, so maybe I’ll pick up another one of those, too. My cash on hand had been slowly dropping, and now I don’t have the occasional 2.5M windfall from the racing cars to bail me out, so uploading my multiplier might be worth it in the long run…

        • Josephine Kick@$$

My memory isn’t what it should be, but I didn’t think there was a bonus when I originally bought them, I just wanted more cars lol 😊

        • I have the Mr. Powells car on the road, but that was a glitch, which has been repaired. You didn’t put the car on the road, but put the road under the car.

          • Yup, I did that with my ice cream truck. That baby ain’t never gonna get moved, now! (Too bad they fixed that glitch…there are times I’d like to be able to store the truck to free up Ice Cream Man Homer, but it’s not worth losing its place in the road.)

            • Josephine Kick@$$

I have always wondered why some people had the ice cream truck & were able to put it on the street. Now I know 😊

              • Yeah – wish I understood why they had to fix that glitch to make it no longer possible to put roads under vehicles…wonder what harm doing that does, or how it screws up other coding? Never noticed any problems with it from the one or two vehicles I was able to do that with before they fixed it. I mean, you can’t have a town where every vehicle (except the street sweeper) is permanently parked in parking lot or gas station! (I did manage to make it look like some other vehicles might be on the street, by putting them on pavement behind buildings in a way that you can see the vehicles and a little pavement, but it’s not that obvious that the pavement isn’t really a street.)

Now, if they could let us put vehicles on the roads AND have them travel on them (like the street sweeper), that would be REALLY cool!! (But I guess that could cause a lot of traffic accidents if they didn’t find some clever way to code that…)

              • Josephine Kick@$$

Yeah… about the coding for the street sweeper… nevermind, I think Alissa knows I beat that horse to death 😂😂😂😂

    • They have different percentages: 0,75% for the red, 2% for the yellow and 2,25% for the blue car.

    • thanks for the info

    • It gives you fiver percent (drawn from the top of my head)

  12. Josephine Kick@$$

I had to buy it, maybe because Big Ben has always been a piece of history to me & I also liked the look of the building 😊

  13. picking it up to help me out on some sleep too

  14. I was going to get it because I thought it told the time also? But since i see no mention im going to have to wait for the tele…….. Maybe i can pick up grimes now.. Is grimes leaving after the event?

  15. I bought it before I even heard of the glitch…just liked the looks of this one. The glitch (and robot clearing ability) were just a surprise bonus of buying it.

    • I considered buying it for the future (pun intended) time keeping ability, also before I heard about any, shall we say, benefits. It’s not a bad looking building either.

  16. Being English I had no choice in the matter so I bought it forthwith! Totally agree about the EMP being useless though – how could the coding nerds at EA not realise how utterly, utterly pointless it is with the Polyvac given out for free!? At least make it spawn additional robots or something worthwhile.

    • It’s not worthless if you go to sleep one or two hours after you’ve played SciFighter. The next morning you’ll end up with the 80 plus 40 from the night before. Otherwise you’d just end up with only the 80 in the morning.

  17. I am not sure but I read somewhere that when the event is ended Big Digi-Ben will show the hour like a clock. Is this right? If yes I will buy it also if I am a freemium player.

    • Honestly I couldn’t tell you. I think it’ll just countdown..

    • I’ve seen it rumored on other sites that it will, but like the Addicts here are always saying until it happens in the game no one knows for sure. In my opinion this is one of EA’s problems when listing stuff for us to buy. If they were more clearer about what items do/don’t or will do then people might be more likely to buy things.

      • Sometimes it’s fun to just go for it with the risk that it doesn’t turn out that way. If my clock ends up just counting down every hour, then that’s still a sort of indication of time moving. Like, I’ve been “grinding” in SH for 23 minutes. Now I know!! lol

  18. Since purchasing this item my poly vac and four of the alternative homers are permanently stuck on 2 and a half hours left till next pay out…is anyone else having issues must also mention that it is part of the questline two so maybe this having issues.

  19. Pass On this one…Halloween is coming…need to save my sprinkles

  20. This item is rediculous. Big Ben is not the tower but the name of the Bell in the tower. For me it’s a frustration topic of people and their nievity, but regarding this game, it does fit and make sense as this show has always been about taking the piss.

  21. As a freemium player I know that it’s not worth it but as a Londoner I really want it. I’ve got quite a few bonuts saved up so we’ll see but I have a feeling I may pull the trigger in the end.

  22. Bought it mainly because I hoped that this would help my neighbours with the glitch. Doesn’t seem to work any more, though… So that’s money down the drain 🙂

  23. Bought it to help my girlfriend with the bug but I love it! Clears robots every hour and all around looks cool, not to mention I had to buy it because I’m British lol

  24. Diggin’ the countdown display!

  25. I bought it and I think it helped some of my neighbours.

    • Thanks Sean you helped me! I didn’t fully understand what the glitch was until after it was finished. I only had 2 out of 100 friends that had it! So thanks for adding me!!

      • I think it was just two friends for everybody. It was the same for me, and I couldn’t even find the clock in their towns. Alas, I bought it after the glitch had been fixed… then I sorta regretted it, but it does look nice next to the monorail central station.

        • I actually found three friends who had Big Ben. Not that this helps much now… but I also realized that hiding all of the friends between two of my “glitched” Big Ben friends allowed me to churn out Chronons twice as fast, as I was toggling back and forth between those two “glitched” friends.

Well… I dunno; maybe little hints like this one will help players to maximize the value of other future glitches, down the road.

(And for the record: no, I don’t feel even remotely guilty for taking advantage of it. I *might* have felt somewhat guilty, if they hadn’t initially set the bar for Act 2 so blasted high in the first place…)

        • 4 beautiful neighbors for me! Love them.

        • It’s no use crying about spilt donuts.
Here are some consolation donuts: 🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩

      • Oh, which means you had no chance to use it? As for me I could not easily find who has it. In the end got to use it a bit from two neighbours.

        • I used it in your town till it didn’t work anymore, then moved to another town till I got locked out for over 6 hrs. After that it didn’t work anymore for me but that got me ahead enough! I don’t usually have trouble getting everything anyways because I play way too often!! I don’t feel the least bit guilty because in the first act I levelled up by mistake ( because that’s what we usually have to do) looking for robots 3 times and lost precious robot parts!! We’ll call it even!!

        • The penny dropped too late for me 😭😭😭

  26. I ALWAYS have robots roaming about for hours AFTER I kill ’em every four hours. Got tired of thinking they were gone & then hunting them down. So I’m glad that I got Big Digi-Ben. 😃

  27. Big Ben is already in TSTO, so I’ll pass.

  28. It’s OK, looks like an addition to the Britannia casino.

  29. Oooh this actually helps a lot.
When I go to bed sometimes, it’s only been 3 hours since the last Polyvac and I can’t wait another hour, BUT there are robots everywhere – so I have to spend approx 10mins to clear them all before I go to sleep for about 7-8 hrs.
Now with Big Ben its just one tap and sweet dreams 🙂
