Should I Spend Donuts On Halloween Party Walls, Film Permit, Cobblestone Tiles or Fairy Kodos?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s Halloween in our pocket-size Springfields!  Yes that magical time of the year when our towns turn dark, our water becomes mucky, there are monsters everywhere to battle and (as with all events) there are LOADS of items from Halloweens past to spend those sprinkles on!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks as awesome as this because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Halloween Party Walls, Film Permit, Cobblestone Roads or Fairy Kodos to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding these Halloween inspired items to your Springfield…

I’ve lumped these four together because two are returning items and two are items that really don’t require too much analysis…so let’s quickly break them down…

ico_stor_single_halloweenpartywallbundle

Item: Halloween Party Walls
Contains:
Pack of 10 Walls
Donut Cost:
20 Donuts
Bonus %:
.10% on all cash and XP (each wall)
What Does It Do:
It’s a wall, just a decoration.
Should I Buy Post:
Halloween Party Wall
My Opinion on Them Now:
Unchanged from last year.  Take them or leave them…if you like them, get them.  If not pass and move on.

ico_stor_thoh2016_filmpermit

Item: Film Permit
Donut Price: 90 Donuts (Act 1, it is expected to drop in price for Acts 2 and 3)
What Does it Do?: So, basically this membership card helps you earn MORE game currency when tapping Cameras in your neighbor’s town.  It doubles the amount you’ll earn in a neighbors town.
Should You Buy It?: NO!  This event is easy enough, this card is completely unnecessary.  Don’t waste your donuts…

menu_ico_decr_csroadtile_lg

Item: Cobblestone Road Tiles
Donut Price: 40 Donuts (this is the price to unlock the ability to place the tiles.  Each time after the 40 donuts spent is FREE.  So it’s just a 1 time price of 40 donuts for unlimited Cobblestone Road Tiles)
What Does it Do?: Unlocks the ability to have the Cobblestone Tiles in your Springfield for decorating.  Just like Road, Pavement, Dirt, Water etc tiles.
Once you’ve purchased this you’ll unlock the ability to PERMANENTLY add Cobblestone Road Tiles to your Springfield…even after the event is over.

My Opinion/Should You Buy?: This is one is one of those, if you like it get it items.  There’s no benefit to it for your town other than pure decoration aspect.  So if you’ve got design plans for it…pick it up.  Otherwise save your donuts. Personally, I grabbed it.  I like the idea of the Cobblestone Roads…and while I likely won’t do much in the way of Halloween with it…I do have some plans in Springfield Heights for it.
Oh and for those of you having trouble getting these to line up with your town square, I covered how to make it work on my town square post this morning which you can find here.

Leaves Stores October 17th

Character: Fairy Kodos Skin (Comes with Kodos if you don’t already have her)
Cost:  40 donuts
Should I Buy Post: Fairy Kodos (Costume), Kodos (note it’s the character for this bundle, i don’t think the 40 donut price includes the Ray Gun)
My Opinion On Her Now: 40 Donuts is a great price for this hilarious outfit.  If you have them, spend the donuts, you won’t be disappointed.  (especially if you don’t already have Kodos)

And there you have it my friends, the breakdown on the random odds and ends premium items in our stores.  And yes, before you ask I WILL have posts coming on Hibbert Island and Hellementary School..those are next on my list to tackle.

What are your thoughts on these premium items?  Do you own any of them already?  Will you be purchasing them this year?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. So I’ve had a problem with the small monsters spawning in my town. I know they get stuck, but it’s gotten to the point that even when I hide buildings and objects I cant find them. I had to spend 135 doughnuts to get the marshmallow.
My question is should I get the Film Permit to hopefully avoid this at the end of the next acts?

  2. Having issues with Fiary Kodos on her first quest. Same issues as last year when she was unveiled. Hopefully EA will fix the bug soon.

    • Is it where you can’t get her to complete the quest? I had the same issue. Once the time is up you’ll need to wait a few minutes and let her fly all the way across the screen. Once she’s done you’ll have to wait another 30 seconds or so and then she’ll pop up in front of the Simpson house with a thumbs up.

      • Yeah that was the one. Not sure what I did or the game did but the next day when I was moving some stuff around my time the quest completed and the finger icon popped up.

  3. Hi anyone know why there is no timer under the cobblestone road?

  4. So I accidentally bought the film permit (so mad!) But, can I sell it or something? I accidentally clicked it once and: boom, it went through and I had no confirmation or idea what i was getting. Real upset I just wasted a whopping 90 donuts… it seems pointless to me. So, if anyone knows the benefits it has or, something I can do with it would be appreciated. This site says you get double money on neighbors? I haven’t seen it matter much yet if that is what it’s for

  5. “My Opinion On Her Now: ”
HER?! Omg…i didn’t knew it xD

  6. I can’t complete kodos “flirt with human males” task, i’ve tried restarting the game, waiting, visiting other towns but the task just won’t finish! 🙁

  7. Got the cobblestone and fairy costume. When I saw the fairy costume available, I squealed with glee! As the tasks emerge, I’m not sorry I spend the donuts at all!

  8. I got Kodo looks fun when floating around the town in the fairy costume. Worth the 40 donuts.

  9. Ooh mini-quest just started! (Glucose Games)

  10. I’m glad they offered Kodos for 40 donuts for those who don’t have her already(I got her for free in one of the previous Hallowe’ens) cuz she’s one of the more iconic characters in the game.

  11. Thx for da post. I was wondering when Kodos was going to be offered and a fairy costume. I bought it straight away. Now waiting for Kang. My 2 fav halloween characters.
Anybody else have their street performer missing? I paid donuts for him and can’t find him anywhere. I even tried lookin for him in design mode with only characters visable. Any suggestions wot 2 do. Maybe playing wheres wally in some eles springfield.
Also am missing stuff from last yr halloween ie house of evil, hot rod and various other bits. Also stuff from sprinfield heights?
    Any suggestions wot do peoples?

    • Sometimes stuff gets lost in your inventory. Things that are not categorized correctly, like characters that can’t be found in the “character” tab. Only way to find it in there somewhere is to open your inventory, DON’T chose any category, but scroll through the highest level list that shows up right when you open it.

    • My street performer is missing as well. Not the first time he go lost and went roaming the streets of Springfield. If you find him there just store him and then set him free again. He will be back on your boardwalk. However, for now mine is not in inventory or on the streets that I can see. I think he has Alzheimer`s.

  12. I bought Pirate Kang and Fairy Kodos last year, and have never put them away. I love them both, and they were easily one of my favorite purchases ever.

  13. I bought the cobblestone road ability for 40 doughnuts. I wouldn’t normally spend doughnuts on something like this, but I really liked the decoration possibilities, and I had the doughnuts to spare.

  14. The best deal is in Springfield heights new beach hideaway for 40 donuts- while that only gives the standard 2% bonus, each upgrade of it- done with non premium springfield heights pills, oscars etc adds bigger bonus’s – allowing you to turn 40 donuts into about a 20-25 % ( sorry didnt keep close track) bonus!

    • It’s 220 in total, and don’t forget that you have to have EVERY piece of the expansion out to gain the total bonus (unlike the other SH buildings).

I bought 2, and have them together as one big hideaway in the water, with the 2 gazebos together as a separate building on the beach. 🙂

      • Ack! 20!! Just 20%!!

Sorry for the finger slip! If you can edit the previous msg & delete this, that’s cool, and if not – yay, 2 comments for the price of one?? 🙂

        • My dissertation adviser always said that one published paper plus one published correction = two publications! So he looked forward to Errata.

  15. Fairy Kodos has one of the most annoying tasks were it’ll fly and hover on your screen getting in the way of tapping.
When you do tap by mistake your game will jump to the simpsons house.
Also the task will refuse to compleate when finished.
Fairy Kodos is one of the rare costumes I regret buying.
Fairy Kodos does have a good duel task with Smithers though.

    • I agree. I love her outfit and enjoy watching her fly around my screen, however it’s so frustrating when you accidentally tap her. I never use this skin anymore because it’s really annoying…which is too bad because it’s fun.

    • I have to agree, it’s one of the few donut purchases I’ve made that I absolutely regret making. I never send her on the task or she flies around, I usually send her on a 24-hour task that puts her into a brown house just so that she’s out of the way, so I don’t accidentally send her on the flying task

    • Couldn’t agree more. The flying tasks are the most annoying of all. I regret buying Fairy Kodos and Arnie Pye, the fairy will never be used again. Kodos is already premium so I see no point at all in buying the skin, I certainly wish I hadn’t.

      • I was just looking at buying the fairy costume and am glad I read this…I HATE Annie and his stupid copter! Wish it didn’t leap to someplace I didn’t want to go. Maybe EA can do something?

    • 4kidsandacatdog

Love the dual task and use it all the time, but I’ll second the fact that the 8 hour task is maddening! I really wish EA would fix it so that you can’t accidentally tap her and instantly fly over to the Simpsons house!

    • Thanks for your comment! I have Kodos and was considering getting the skin, but the only way I would buy a skin for a premium character would be if there were cool tasks. It sounds like the flying task is a little annoying.

    • I thought this was a cute animation in my neighbors towns but wondered about the nuisance factor. Thank you gang for chiming in as this is what I thought. PASS…

  16. A note about Fairy Kodos: I started playing last spring 2015 & was totally bummed when I found out the helicopter from Springfield Heights not only couldn’t be parked on top of the hospital, but that it didn’t FLY! After all, I saw helicopters flying in my elder neighbor’s towns (with a guy hanging out) Oh, that’s Arnie Pye & he’s ONLY 85 donuts 🙁 Halloween came & enter the Fairy Kodos…well this gal flies as well! AND she’s only 40 donuts! Well worth springing a few bucks for the requisite donuts to make up the difference. Do I regret it? Not in the least, plus I love her with Smithers. But there is one thing to be aware ofn when she flies….she lags behind your cursor not too far away (just like Arnie if you’ve been around him long enough) This can become a bit of a pain when you’ve got characters & houses to click & need to backup. So I just wanted to let everyone know about her flying & the teeny glitch, in case they didn’t pick up on it in older posts. Enjoy your “Fairy”, she’s a hoot!

  17. Will we still be able to buy the cobblestone roads after the event is over? I want it but I’d like to be able to save the donuts if I can.

  18. I’ve just been visiting neighbours, and received 5 bonuts from about 20 towns I think (Friendship level is maxed out so I’m used to getting the occasional bonut) Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a glitch or are EA just feeling generous?

    • I’ve got at least one donut a day for visits. Not going to question the donut fairy.

    • I get one or two now and then per neighbor cycle, but twice I did get five, so it is possible. Those times around I even got two from one neighbor visit! Just luck of the bounce. Much better odds then Sideshow You in Krustyland. I ignore that one unless I just want to reset my Springfield for one reason or another…

  19. Anyone have issues with fairy condos not finishing the task? It says it’s finished when I’m in krustyland, I click to go back to Springfield and she says she is done but I’m not able to click on her to finish the task… so damned annoying… first glitch I’ve ever had in the game too…

    • Check the Simpson House.

      • She is there, but it just says done – no option to finish. When I click go to it looks like she finishes again – but no thumbs up to get her out of the house….

        • May be a replay of the gitch from last year. Last year it had to do with changing the Simpson house facade, I’m guessing she only has 1 facade there correct?

          If that’s the case, it’s a contact EA situation..unfortunately.

        • Hi 🙂
I had this last year also, try – like Alissa already mentined – to switch the Simposons house facade/skin. I think you need the halloween skin to be able to finish the job.

        • I had this problem too. You have to let her completely cross the screen from left to right, and have her disappear from the screen. After that, you should be able to clear the task.

    • My son’s game had this same glitch, and letting her finish her travel across the screen didn’t work for him, because it would take too long — even if he (or, more realistically, I) kept the game open for 20+ minutes, eventually I’d get kicked out by the servers. This lingered long after the THOH event, and I spoke with EA a couple of times to no avail. Months later, my husband got a new kindle and when I logged into my son’s game on that device, the task completed in just a couple of minutes. I can’t be sure, of course, that a newer/more powerful device was the solution, and I’ve never had any other problems with my older/less powerful kindle. Good luck!

  20. The cobblestone streets were a no-brainer, but honestly they should be Free for everyone to enjoy. New players won’t have 40 donuts to spend.

  21. Kinda annoyed the Cobblestone is strictly a road. I’d love to have a cobblestone tile similar to the dirt and cement so I can create shopping areas etc. I wish wish the cobblestone came with a cute bridge effect too, similar to the normal road when put across water.

    • Agreed. It sucks I have to switch to a regular road to cross the water. Almost as if they didn’t think of that.

      • After realizing the the lack of bridging, I’ve limited my cobblestone road to a small contained area. I was looking forward to replacing all my roads too. It’s a double-edged sword with the cobblestone- on one-side you’re limited to just roads with no bridge and on the other the town center looks odd without it.

        • This is one of those things I don`t get enjoyment from right away. Perhaps when I use them in other areas later I will appreciate them more, but for now, I am on the fence about this purchase. Maybe I am just grumpy about something that is usually free… These have great potential, but not immediately intuitive like dirt roads like for the Wild West area. But then again, there will be neighbors that will knock your socks off with designs using them right from the starting gun.

Nutshell: I got them, I am somewhat glad I did (I hate for the price) and they are now in my back pocket for future use. This is a very rare “Only Time Will Tell” purchase…

        • It sounds like users can’t place gates over cobblestone? I think I’ll just keep my dirt paths.

      • It actually blows my mind how much isn’t thought out in development and how so much nonsense gets passed beta testing.

    • Getting the cobblestone would be a 100% must buy IF they did not have the curbs !!!. I just want the plain cobblestone. But, I have no problem with the idea that this is a pay item.

    • Yes, i’m disappointed in that too. Like in the middle ages they couldn’t build bridges. They have build the most beautifull ones at that time. Let’s hope they give us that posibility sooner or later

  22. Kudos and fairy kudos skin 40 sprinkles?! Dun… mic drop.. lol sweet deal

  23. Thanks for the article, just a question, it may seem obvious, but if i was to purchase Fairy Kodos skin, do i get regular Kodos also?

  24. In the current THOH collection there’s an old guy in a sailors outfit with a shovel. Not sure who he is but he seems interesting.

  25. I will probably get the cobblestone eventually, but I haven’t done so yet. Is there any indication about whether the ability to purchase it will go away with the event? I imagine something like that would stay available (dirt is available for people starting a game now, right?), but I don’t see any indication either way (other than it showing up with the other event items).

  26. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Have a great day. 😌

  27. Too bad they didn’t offer the Kodos skin cheaper if you already had Kodos. That would have been better. Oh well

  28. Hello Awesome Team! Just wondering if I missed the Should I buy on the Hellementary School! Thanks so much!

  29. I’m one of the few people who doesn’t buy donuts, so they’re much more valuable to me as I get them, in a manner of speaking. I don’t know if it’s actually possible, but I don’t plan on spending any donuts until I have over 1,000 banked from various parts that give them to you for completing things.

    • I don’t buy doughnuts either as the price-to-item ratio is ridiculous. What’s the purpose of saving 1000 before you spend them? A lot of these things only come around once, or you have to wait years for a re-release. I use them on things I have doughnuts for, otherwise I dont stress if I can’t. There’s really nothing ‘must have’ so I just get things I like. Sure I have buyer’s remorse but it doesn’t cost me anything. I may end up paying $10 to support the devs, but anything more would be silly (I get AAA titles & DLC on Steam for the same cost)

      • Comparing spending for a $60.00 AAA video game from Steam (or the likes) to spending $60.00 for a pocket size “phone game” would be an interesting thread… I will bet a six pack of beer to a peach that the comments would avalanche well over 1,000 comments. I would even bet a “King Size Bottle” of Bacardi Rum that Alissa would have to put back on her “Angry Socks” more then many times. The ultimate “Pandora`s Box”… It is Halloween… Who dares go there… Do Not click on the box…

        • Well it depends on how much you pay for AAA titles… I usually wait for them to come out in bundles, or at least until the GOTY edition (all the DLC). So I usually pay $4-10 in a bundle (with a few games in the bundle) or $10-20 for a GOTY. Don’t get me wrong, I used to always buy games on day 1 and pay full-price, but I have hundreds (literally) of unplayed games so I only wait for a good deal before I buy.

The point was really “I can buy X game or DLC for $10 which potentially gives me hundreds of hours of entertainment” versus “I can spend $10 on a single item (worth 150 donuts) that makes my town pretty / gives some brief amusement” (Note: based on the pricing in my store being 2400 boatload = AU$160). I can also buy stellar mobile games, providing hours of entertainment, for typically $1-5 and the devs still make money.

I really don’t see how *anything* in TO should be priced higher than $1. I would buy tonnes of things if items were $0.50 to $1 each. I’m not kidding – I would happily throw $10-20 to the developers to get 10-20 items… not 1 or 2. But when single items ranging from $2 to $16 I just laugh and keep my wallet in my pocket. I know the devs need to be compensated for their work, but I’d rather they do that through volume sales rather than price gouging (i.e. $1 x 1 million sales vs $10 x 100,000 sales). I’m not even saying it’s specific to TO, as a lot of freemium games seem to be priced accordingly.

Anyway, to each their own… I’m not criticising anyone who wants to throw the money at the devs, but I just simply don’t see the justification of the prices.

  30. I bought the Cobblestone tiles right away. I had a little problems with getting them to match up with my town square but after a little bit of moving stuff around I was able to do it.

    • Me too. Would be nice if they created a cobblestone bridge when installed over water, like the normal road creates a normal bridge.

Also, minor thing, but can’t install parking meters on the edge of cobblestone roads like one can on normal roads.

      • Heh, they should have those little horse hitching rings for the cobblestones (& dirt roads!) – the old school version of parking meters! 🙂

The house I grew up in had one embedded into the curb outside the front door. No idea why – there weren’t any others on my street! But there were scattered sightings on various streets of Boston; wonder if there are any left now…

Anyway, then we could have a place to hitch our horses, in addition to parking cars! 😁
