Around the World 101: Act 1 Neighbor Visits (Including Osaka Flu Breakdown)

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

The Around the World event hit our pocket-sized Springfields the other day and it’s already causing a world of confusion! How do I help my neighbors? Should I leave buildings untapped? How do I get this flu everyone’s talking about?

Well don’t sweat it, we’re here (as always) to break it all down for you step by step, piece by piece until the Osaka Flu slowly takes over our Springfields! So let’s get to work breaking it all down….

Let’s start with the basics of Neighbor Visits…

As I broke down in the rundown post Tuesday Neighbor Actions unlock with Part 6 of Around the World.

You’ll be tasked to Tap Attractions in Other Springfields.  Basically, tap on the ico_cur_aroundtheworld_francepin_lg you see floating over buildings in Friends towns:

Tapping these will earn you 5 ico_cur_aroundtheworld_francepin_lg for each building you tap (these are called actions, for those new to TSTO).  You’re allowed 90 actions/day from neighbors.

Now when you return back to your Springfield, assuming friends have visited you, you’ll see the same  ico_cur_aroundtheworld_francepin_lg floating over some of your buildings.  Clearing that will award you 1 ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg for each one you clear(crafting currency).  So visiting your neighbors helps them AND it helps you.

Do I Have to Keep Money Over my Buildings (not collect the income) in order for friends to tap the ico_cur_aroundtheworld_francepin_lg?

No. From what I can tell they’re independent of each other. So clear your buildings.  HOWEVER, make sure you clear the ico_cur_aroundtheworld_francepin_lg over buildings in your town as well.  Because not clearing the pins will prevent your neighbors from having something to tap when they visit you.

Also, it’s important to note…tapping Springfield Elementary, Moe’s, the Police Station &/or Town Hall still causes graffiti.

Now let’s talk about Osaka Flu…

Now first let me breakup one rumor going around.  This is NOT Community Prizes.  There are no Community type prizes associated with this.  So unless EA adds it down the road, that’s not what this is.

This does show Community Impact, but it appears just to show where/how far it’s spread.  There are no Community Prizes associated with this.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s break this flu down…

How Do I Get Osaka Flu?  Can I Get it From A Neighbor, Can a Neighbor Give it to me?

Yes and no.  Osaka Flu appears to be random as to who gets it and who doesn’t get it.  Eventually I do think we’ll all get it.  It’ll just show up in your Springfield, there’s no sure fire way to “get it”.

So, this would defeat the purpose of a “Osaka Flu Neighbor List” that some of you have been requesting.  You can’t intentionally get it from a neighbor.

How Will I Know When I Have Osaka Flu?

The game will tell you.  Once you’ve been infected you’ll see a popup in your game telling you that you’re infected:

2017-02-02-02-03-42 2017-02-02-02-04-03

At this point you’ll see it roaming around your Springfield like a big virus cloud:

If a Tourist is infected, the virus cloud will appear over the tourist:

Simply tap the Tourist to remove the virus from them and earn EXTRA badges and Crafting Currency.

You’ll earn 14 ico_cur_aroundtheworld_francepin_lg and 7 ico_cur_aroundtheworld_skycredit_lg for every Osaka Flu Virus Tourist you clear in your Springfield.  They won’t all have it, but occasionally when they do you’ll get a nice reward boost for it.

Ok, so now let’s talk about the Osaka World Map, and what that all means.  Once you’ve got the Osaka Flu your event hub will have a new tab just for Osaka…

So what does this mean?  How do you proceed with this?

So at the top it says Infection Severity 0/100, and Level 1.

Across the bottom you’ll see five Osaka icons, 4 locked 1 unlocked.  How do you proceed?

It’s pretty simple.  For every building you clear in your Springfield with the ico_cur_aroundtheworld_francepin_lg floating over it you’ll increase your Infection Severity by 1.  So clear 100 buildings in your Springfield with the ico_cur_aroundtheworld_francepin_lg over them and you’ll clear level 1 and earn the prize.

So it’s SUPER important that you visit neighbors, so they visit you and everyone can succeed together.

If not Community Prizes, What Are the Prizes?

So there are 5 total prizes and (at least for now) these prizes are more Event and Crafting Currency.

Now I’m going by the files, because I haven’t filled the bar yet in my Springfield, but each prize is 10 Event Currency (Pins) and 5 Crafting Currency.

So now that I’ve had this happen to me, and leveled up, I can tell you that when you level up you’ll add an additional Osaka Virus to your town.  So you can end up with a total of 5 Osaka Viruses roaming your town…

That’s It?

I don’t think it’s meant to be a HUGE thing, just something fun as a side quest.

How Do I Level Up?

There are 5 total levels and each one requires your infection severity rate to increase….

To go from Level 1 to Level 2- Infection Severity Rate 100

Level 2 to Level 3- Infection Severity Rate 200

Level 3 to Level 4- Infection Severity Rate 300

Level 4 to Level 5- Infection Severity Rate 1,000

(Cumulative, does not reset to zero for each level…)

And that’s it for now my friends! The details of neighbor actions and the much discussed Osaka Flu!

What are your thoughts on the event so far?  Visiting your neighbors?  Have you contracted Osaka Flu? Thoughts on the little side game? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Very active player. Please add me sburney3

  2. Something i have not seen mentioned. The screen for the flu is functional. When you clear all tourists, it doesnt clear infected tourists. Go into the osaka virus screen and see the viruses that are red. This means they have infected a tourist. Tap the icon and you will clear the virus and tourist. Tap a green icon and you will be taken to a green cloud who isnt on a tourist.

  3. Caseypett340 add play every day

  4. I’ve got the Osaka flu floating around, but no infected tourists and no little icons above my buildings to click (even after going to a friend’s Springfield..

    • Hi, maddyglenn2014! You have to get friends to visit *you* to get those little icons above your buildings. If your friends are not visiting you, go here: and get some more friends. These friends will definitely visit you, allowing you to get more pins and level up quickly. It’s not too late! As for infected tourists, if you’re at level 1, you’ll only have one infected tourist roaming around–and once you clear that tourist, you won’t get another one for four hours. So maybe you are tapping on that one infected tourist and not even noticing? Good luck!

  5. I need friends, please add me:

  6. Add me ryanmeyer

  7. Help needed. I have played tapped out for a while but on my own. Now this Osaka virus has me curious. I am I level 1 with 108% of the world affected. How does this work. Maybe I need some friends? Thanks Andykroney

    • Hi, Andy!

The 108 percent is meaningless as far as your leveling up is concerned. It just shows how many people have the virus.

What you need is friends who will visit you. These visits will leave pins on your buildings. When you tap them, you’ll see that your level starts to increase. You need 100 visits from friends to reach level 2, 200 to reach level 3, 300 to reach level 4 and 1,000 to reach level 5–so the more friends you have, the better.

It looks like you’ve already added your EA/Origin ID in your comment. If you’re not getting enough friends from that, add your ID to the the “add me” thread (here’s the latest one: There’s still time–I maxed out my friend list and leveled up really quickly after I added my ID to a comment on this blog.

      Good luck!

      • How do you add people???? I’m trying

        • First, find some friends here: Write down the names of a few friends you want to add (I usually add 10 at a time, just the first 10 I see on that thread).

Then go to your game and tTap on the friend icon (Bart and Millhouse, bottom right of your screen), then tap on the handshake icon (also bottom right of your screen). That opens up the Friends window. You’ll see something that looks like a name tag icon on the right side of the top of that window. Tap that.

Then click the Invite button next to EA Account. Enter one of the names you wrote down in the search box. It will likely be the only name that pops up (although similar names might pop up as well). Click the Add button next to the name of the person you want to add. That should do it! Good luck!

      • Thank you all my new friends.

  8. Add me: anita18293
    Daily player

  9. Add me BHOking
    No vandalism, daily player

  10. Hi I need more friends that will come and visit me daily. I’m level 101. I will visit daily as well!!!

    Add me: sunyourbuns

  11. I have the osaka flu but I cant seem to spread it there is no pin icon on my buildings. I’ve passed the french quests im on the Japanese quests now HELP! lol

    • Your friends need to visit you for you to get pins on your buildings. Do you have some? If so, you need to get new ones. 😉 What I mean is, it’s possible the friends you’ve added in the past are no longer active.

Your best bet is to add your EA/Origin ID (not your email address–I see that you did that below) on the “add me” thread (here’s the latest one: Once you do that, you’ll get friends who will visit you and leave those coveted pins. There’s still time–I leveled up really quickly after I added my ID to a comment on this blog. (And I maxed out my friend list!)

      Good luck!

  12. Need more friends add me Aleenastew677

  13. I’ve only received 4 pins and 4 credits for each infected tourist. The exact same number i get from tapping an uninfected tourist. This has been from the 1st infection to my current level 5. I’m well ahead of the Daily calendar but guess I am missing on some building opportunities as I fall 3 tickets behind per infection…

  14. add me tracydrisc566
Daily player on level 84 will visit your Springfield daily and won’t vandalise

  15. Hey all,
I’m a regular player and have the Osaka Virus. I’ve read through and done the tips on this blog, but still not leveling up yet.
I’m stuck at level 1 with a measly 17/100. I’ve tried to log in every 4 hours and hit my friends up daily but I’m still not leveling up.

    Anyone have any advice?

  16. Yes, I’m at 102,…% around 841/1000 at level 4/
Donno what we’ll gonna earn after we complete til 1000???

  17. I’m about 650 short from finishing level 5 of this. My map is showing over 100% infected early this afternoon. Anyone else have over 100%?

  18. Kinda dumb cause i visit all my neigbours and noone has visited me. So even though im doing my bit im not reaping any form of benefits for it everyone else is.

  19. Dear Tapped Out Virus,

l truly thought that when l reached lvl 5 and maxed over 100% with the virus infection that my people in the town would end up with green sick faces and l would have to find a cure. Well that didn’t happen lol.
We are speaking of TSTO, always putting a twist in the game.
Hopefully l’m still safe at the moment for being 100% infected or not.

Thanks for the extra fun in the game! 🙂

  20. Dear Tapped Out Veteren,

I have just hit over 100% coverage and not levelled up. This prompted me to go online to find out about the Osaka Virus update, which lead me to you. My virus level remains and 1. Am I doing anything wrong?

    • As the post above indicates…

“Across the bottom you’ll see five Osaka icons, 4 locked 1 unlocked. How do you proceed?

It’s pretty simple. For every building you clear in your Springfield with the pin floating over it you’ll increase your Infection Severity by 1. So clear 100 buildings in your Springfield with the pins over them and you’ll clear level 1 and earn the prize.

So it’s SUPER important that you visit neighbors, so they visit you and everyone can succeed together.”

You need neighbors to visit you. I suggest adding your game ID to our Add Friends feed to get neighbors for your game:

  21. *****

  22. Thanks for the info. I need to make friends with this game. How do i do that? My name is Chris, please help me out

  23. When I clear buildings with the image for the pascals flu virus my level does not change. I’ve clicked on well over 100 as I stopped couti g at 122 last night.

And in a friends town are we looking for a person with the virus or do we still clear buildings

  24. So there’s no point worrying about the flu if I don’t have any neighbours? I could never figure out how to add them when I first started playing and then got this far without them so never really bothered about it. Should I try and add neighbours?

    • Friends can help you with events–but if you’ve gotten through prize tracks without friends before, then you are obviously a diligent enough tapper that you don’t *need* friends to get through events. They can also add a fun element to events–sometimes you can drop presents or other fun things in their towns and they can drop things in yours, so when you log in you have a surprise waiting for you, which is kind of cool. Also, there are “friend prizes,” so as you visit friends, you level up (there are 20 levels), and you get various things as you level up. My favorite is Stampy. And one more thing–I love going to my neighbors’ towns and seeing how they are arranging things, especially during events. But you don’t *need* them. 🙂

      • Thanks, maybe I’ll have to go and add some friends then. I rarely get all of the prizes in each ‘act’ bit I put that down to only being able to tap twice a day during the week. Maybe if I had friends it will make it easier. I assume from the add me threads that people don’t think it’s weird if random strangers try to add them?

        Thanks for the reply.

        • Not weird at all! When I need new friends, I just go out and add the first 10 on the list. Anything older, and they have probably been inundated with friend requests and are at their max (100 is the most you can have). I usually try to keep about 30 friends. It takes awhile to tap through them sometimes, and 90 is usually the max number of actions you get credit for during an event. This one is a little different in that, even though *I* only get 90 things, ALL of my friends who have the flu get it from me whenever I tap them. So I have the max number of friends at this point and I try to go through them every day–although I spread my visits out during the day so I’m not sitting there for a half-hour tapping all my friends.

Eventually I’ll probably whittle down my list–people stop playing, and you can see how long it’s been since they’ve played. If it’s been more than a couple of weeks, I usually take them out of the list so I don’t search their whole town for something to tap on. (When you visit a friend, it leaves a handshake on the building you tapped. They have to tap the handshake for that building to become “eligible” for another friend visit. If they haven’t played for a couple of weeks, they haven’t cleared any handshakes, so you go searching around their town to try to find *something* to tap on–only to find nothing, thus wasting valuable time.

Sorry for the long reply. It’s my downfall–I can’t say anything briefly. lol

          • Thanks for the reply again. I’ll try and add some people. Just one more question if you don’t mind. I noticed that one of the add me threads says no vandalism. I don’t like the idea of vandalism, what do I avoid clicking on to not vandalise?

          • Hi, Meium! I’m pretty sure it’s just these four: Springfield Elementary School, Town Hall, Police Station and Moe’s. Normally it’s not a problem to identify them–they have spray paint cans over the building instead of dollar signs or a stack of money. But during this event, these buildings don’t look any different than any other, with the floating currency over them (currently fans). So you just have to be a little more careful about what you’re tapping (I know I’ve tapped a few Town Halls by accident), but I do think neighbors are a little more understanding about accidental taps. Happy tapping!

  25. Well that was helpful and depressing no one visits my town 😑

    • You’re not the only one. My friends no longer play the game, so I can visit theirs but no one visits mine.

    • Josephine Kick@$$

Do you have a large number of NPC’s or a lot of animation? I went through and stored all of my NPC’s except for chippy (or whatever the poker chip is called), & stored some fountains & animated items that have no bonus or payouts. Just be sure to check your earning bonus before you store, I spaced & stored reindeer & had to go back & pull them out because it went down. If your neighbors are having a hard time navigating or even getting into your town that might be why. Good luck, I hope you find a solution 😊

  26. M.H. Bogaards-Pasma

I have all 5 Osaka Flu’s unlocked, but now a tourist with flu only gives “normal” stuff (4 fans, 2 tickets). Is that a glitch?

    • Me too, was wondering the same thing. If this is the case it seems better to stay at level 4 and earn the extra currency.

  27. I’ve got flu. But no one is visiting

  28. OK “neighbors” I don’t know what is going on with this flu thing…One.count them…ONE neighbor comes to visit my town…I have about 100 … where is everyone? Most of them do not have anything to tap on in their neighborhood either…I haven’t gotten anywhere with this task..What gives…??

  29. I still don’t have the flu… 😞
